Garbage game. The graphics are blurry, slow loading and there are only 8 maps in total! If you are looking for a good team based game I would go with Team Fortress. Much better

With it's totally unplayable online mode, even those populated with bots this makes it hard to justify the full price.

If it would have been $15 and lag free it would have potential since it got some cool ideas but locking down kits for each objective was not fun in Quake Wars and its not fun now.

What a terrible game. It looks and feels old. Seems like they just took bits from other games to make Brink. CoD:MW + TF2 = Brink. The multiplayer experience is useless and dumb.

Expand

It is no wonder that COD and Battlefield rule the market when no one looks at the opporunity to create greatness, but rather just uses the wave of FPS fame to produce nothing new, unique, or adventurous.

You have played it all before, many many many times there is nothing good about the game, and any reviews that are favourable need to splap themselves into reality and get out of the house.

Now if the game is played like that and gone into with the mindset to focus on team and support rather than K/D ratio then this game is highly enjoyable. When I am playing COD or BFBC etc I was very focused on K/D ratio and would strive to obtain the highest ever. With this game it is far more important to play as a team and support than K/D ratio and you are rewarded handsomely for your actions as well as killing the other team. I am really enjoying this game. However it does have some downfalls, there are quite a bit of lag issues at the moment, most of the weapons feel the same, and character customization is not quite as in depth as I would have liked. But other than that this game is fantastic and welcome break from COD and it's clones. The parkour is fun and adds a new element to the game play. Yes there is practically zero story just a background story of conflict, however if you are willing to just play a OBJECTIVE based, TEAM oriented online shooter either in co-op or versus there is plenty of enjoyment to have. Here is hoping they iron out some of the latency issues and add some DLC support. Expand

Brink is getting mixed reviews as it should. But what i'm hearing the most is it's too hard and the allied AI is not sufficient. I'm of the minority that shooters are too easy. The levels are well crafted minus a few design flaws when it comes to "Escort" missions. The parkour gameplay while not earth shattering should be mandatory in these games. In conclusion Brink is a solid game that might even be GREAT given a patch or two. It's difficult and addicting unlike the same thrown up Call of Duty we get every few years. Expand

This is not a bad game exactly. It's just not a good one, especially for the price. In a few months when gamestop is selling it for $20 (As I'm sure this will happen) it will then be well worth the price. I'm going to cover a few things so that no one makes the same mistake I did.

Graphics: Very lackluster. Character models are not very polished at all. Characters look rather pixelated in some cases, with squared off edges popping up quite often. Glitches in picture quality are frequent yet inconsistent. Overall not hideous but not what you would expect with Bethesda publishing it.

Gameplay: Pretty solid. Controls feel tight and responsive. Amazing customization of controls. Being able to map the controls to any button you want is a wonderful yet often overlooked option. As solid as the controls might be there are far too many good shooters out there that are just as tight and deliver far more.

S.M.A.R.T. movement system: This is the most hyped yet under-delivered option that Brink brings to the table. This can be fun but does not deliver the depth or feel that Mirrors Edge did. It sometimes fails to do the intended action. It doesn't help that the maps don't seem to have the detail for this to be really useful. Most areas in which you can use the system in some way are just too obvious. Some that seem like they should be reachable simply aren't.

Campaign: Non-existent. The campaign is simply regular match made style objectives with cut scenes thrown in. The game is terrible at trying to tell a story and does next to nothing to tell you what your mission is. Don't be fooled by the so called "mission within a mission" options. These are class based and are as simple as going to point A and plant an explosive. Customization: The customization options for your character and guns have a rather cool look and style. Yet there are far too few options over all. The big head scratcher here is why some options are permanent. Tattoos and scars that can be chosen at the character creation screen can not be changed past that point. A complete fail on the part of Splash Damage.

A.I. Bots: Any time you're playing the game and don't have a complete team on both sides the game will fill those slots with A.I. Bots. These are some of the worst bots I've ever seen. They do everything from using the same bottle necked hallway over and over again to ignoring the obvious target to chase someone else. Overall: Basically it's not a terrible game it's just not that good. There is definitely some fun to be had here just not enough fun for the $60 price tag it comes with. I've read some reviews that claim the team based element is what makes it worthwhile. Don't be fooled by that. I agree that the teamwork aspect is one of the good points to the game but it is far from making up for Brink's other failings. A serious lack of depth as well as a multitude of glitches and lag ruin what could have been an good game. Splash Damage failing to deliver on so many promises is the real problem here. When it inevitably goes on sale for $20 or less it will be a worthwhile option.

    Thanks for reading.

Brink rewards teamplay and completing objectives over killcount. There is nothing better than working with your team to capture an objective and everyone is doing thier job, and thankfully brink does a great job of making players want to work together by offering XP. The only thing holding Brink back from being great is an underwelming amount of content. There are 8 maps total, and you can fully level up a character quite easily (I'm level 10/20 and I have played for about 6 hours). Fortunately you can create 15 or so different character to play as, and hopefully the developers will release more maps in the near future. And people that complain about lag and blurry textures are dumb, as it lags just as much as any other game, and the textures are fine. Expand

At the very least for the first three hours you'll find it fun and easy to complete missions and then you'll reach the final day of either the rebel faction or the security faction and the difficulty will grind up over noticably. I would have given this game an 8 or 9 if it weren't for the horrid graphics in gameplay and the retarded AI (no offence intended). I sat there watching a blur of a man trying to run through a wall when he had the something i needed planting somewhere sometime soon (3 mins to be exact) but no he couldnt move i stood there clearing out enemy after enemy as he didnt move and the timer did, so i turned off my console and i havent touched Brink since (its been about 2 days). I have no problems with the challenge system and i found it fun having to do it to unlock weaponry and not to metion how easy achievments were but the main problrms are the no lobby system and the awfull lag i had to endure even with the new virgin 50mb per sec it sucked basically and that people could join your game. Brink was supposed to be one the largest shooters of the year. It promised fluid fast-paced parkour, the most intelligent bots created, an extensive class system, an overly extensive customization system (combinations rank upwards into the millions), as well as great online play. Instead, it gave us a clunky parkour system that didn't want to work half the time (and most of the time all you did with it was hop over fences and slide under fences), the game was extremely slow-paced compared to the hype buildup by developers, bots are borderline retarded with teammate bots running aimlessly around maps and enemy bots just rushing objective points in endless waves, making it near impossible to get anything done, as well as an extremely poor debut for the online play with the worst lag I've seen since the times of dial-up. The only things this mess of a game actually got right were the classes and customization, and classes still fell a bit short simply because the game is so ridiculously unbalanced.

Yes, you heard me. It's unbalanced. Why? Not because of classes, but because of the horrible map design. EVERY map consists of hallways. Nothing but hallways. In the middle of every hallway is an objective, in which both sides are consistently running towards. Now usually, this is the norm. Everyone is used to everyone running to the objective, it's the way it's meant to be played. The problem lies in the small hallways that make up the map. They leave no room for anything to be done, and when it takes an entire clip to kill a single enemy, you basically have a bunch of people just running around in circles spamming reload for forever because by the time one person is dead, another has came back, leaving objectives untouched and completely useless. Games like Call of Duty get objective-based game modes right because you can kill people faster than they can respawn. A good co-ordinated team can demolish another. This was supposed to be the plan with Brink, but instead it was just one giant stalemate.

Single player is absolutely garbage as well, as bots just create even worse choke points with your teammate bots running aimlessly around, making some missions such as the Security #2 mission near impossible to complete.

This game supposedly got patched, fixing lag and bots, but no-can-do, Splash Damage. You've already left me with a sour taste in my mouth, and nothing you do to try to fix this mess of a game will bring me back. If you can't ship a game relatively bug-free (or at least without bugs that aren't detrimental to gameplay such as online connection), then you don't deserve a consumers support. Especially when your entire ad campaign for the game is based around the part of the game that was so buggy it made it completely unplayable.

I give this game 2 points for classes, 1 point for customization (simply because you can't choose what to unlock but things just randomly unlock without saying when they WILL unlock.. you need better organization, guys) and 1 point simply because I did like how the guns handled. If you are really looking towards buying this game, I suggest a rental first or at least wait for a price drop. You don't need to pay full retail price for something that feels like it was coded by complete amateurs.

So, if you want to fly solo, don't, you're wasting your time. As everyone does, lets start with the bad news. Bad news is: Brink is fraught with lag that makes is impossible to move let alone shoot a moving target and metimes it just freezes altogether for minutes at a time. Also, the A.I's are total dumbasses(on both sides, enemies and teammates). Your teammate A.I.'s rarely, if ever, complete any objectives, they are just there to revive you when needed and provide a little fire support, which I find rather pointless. You might as well have no teammates at aland auto-revive on. As far as enemies go they sometimes walk into wall and don't seem to understand the concept of "watching where you're going." But if they target you they become incredibly accurate super machines and will kill you seconds if you're not careful. Bad things aside, now the good news. The good news is: Brink is a refreshing, and much needed, break from the stale and usually overrated Call of Duty and Halo franchises. Brink emphasizes movement to stay alive, hence the parkour which is super cool by the way. Brink is not like CoD where you can set up your tent in a corner and roast some damn marshmallows all day, which is music to my ears. The gameplay is awesome and is totally unique from any other FPS out there. If you have friends, which most people do, you can come together for an epic 8-player co-op and team play online. Overall, once the lag is patched, which it will be, and the A.I.'s are tweaked, Brink has the potential to be an awesome game. But when it comes right down to it, the game seemed "rushed." There needs to be more variety. If you're looking for a game to play with your friends and looking to pull off some sick parkour moves, play Brink! In the coming weeks it will become a better game, so all you haters out there, just be patient. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you don't want to read my full review: Yeah this is a game worth buying.
    Why? Read the review :D

Sooo, first review. You ask me why I just registered here for reviewing this game?
Just because many of the so called "reviewers" here haven't played this game for a longer time or they are talking crap.
First off: I played many FPS Games: BF-series, whole CoD-series (but BlackOps is probably the last game I bought from this series),
TeamFortress 1-2, Quake, UT, CS and so on and so on.
I tested the german version of Brink. On the PC for sure! (I don't understand why many reviewers post a review of the XBox or PS3 version in the PC section..
HELLOOO.. this is the PC section. Personal *break* Computer. Mouse+Keyboard. Get it? Thank you)

So now I introduce to you: Brink.

    Gameplay:
Intense. Fast. Teambased. And a bit freaky.
I really like it that you can choose your own mission and go for that.
Also you have to play as a team, all Call of Duty-fraggers have to rethink and get used to it, this game is no brainless "KILLEVERYTHING!!!11"-FPS.
The maps are.. freaky as the whole game. Some are well structered, some are really messy.
Not bad, just messy. But the mission marker will help to find your way.
The weapons are too similar in my opinion, hopefully a patch will fix that.
    Most players use a SMG.
There are 4 classes in the game:
Medic, Engineer, Soldier and somekind of Spy.
The medic and the engineer are very powerful and most played.
You can make many XP points in a short time so they are a bit overpowered, this should be balanced.
The Soldier is okay. Nothing special, just okay.
And last and least: the spy.
Okay, you need him in some missions but its a pain to play.
He can get a disguise (but it will be dropped when you get hit or fire a weapon) and some other little perks, but nothing that can hold up with the other classes.
The S.M.A.R.T. system is a nice feature but you really have to get used to it.
For me its okay that you only have to press one button for this, 'cause a key for every single move would make it impossible to react in a hot situation.
The only thing that me really disappointed is the wall run. Its nearly non-existent.. that makes me really sad.
But the game isn't called Mirror's Edge, its Brink.
PS: I won't write anything about the SP, this is a pure multiplayer game.
Okay, just one sentence: The AI is unbelievable stupid. Not as stupid as the bots in BF1942 but.. stupid.

    Graphics:
I really like the minimalistic menu and the comic look, but this is a personal thing!
The graphics are pretty good, not mobile phone graphics that some people here are talking about.
(Sorry, this really made me laugh and cry about the stupidity of some... okay, this shouldn't be in a review, back to topic)
Nothing more to graphics, they are not Crysis like, but not bad. They are... pretty good. Full stop.

    Network:
I personally hadn't the "Server doesn't respond" bug.
But yeah, some servers are a bit laggy, hopefully will be fixed.

    Conclusion:
This game is pretty good and its something new. It takes parts from many FPS Games and mix them up to a new game.
I like it and I will have fun with it for many hours.
Its something new, its freaky and its a more complex game than the most "KILLEVERYTHING!!!11"-FPS (CoD *cough*).
This means that most kiddos won't play this and this makes me reaaally happy. :)
So, this is a game worth buying :) PS: No, I don't hate Call of Duty. I played Call of Duty for a long time. But for me Call of Duty 4 was the last REAL Call of Duty. Personal opinion, please don't cry. PPS: Yes, this game has a few bugs. I don't like it that most up to date games are full of bugs, but okay. PPPS: This review should have been longer, but I'm ill and its short after midnight ^^ Greetings, ComboCraft

The only problem is standard mode is plagued with lag, however if you try out competitive mode it lags a lot less, although there are less people playing it. The textures really aren't an issue, sure they blur out, but so do textures in Mass Effect and Gears, and it actually looks similar to this. Maybe I'm different but I don't spend my time admiring the walls/doors/floors really. Other than the lag I haven't experienced any issues except the typical overpowering insta-headshot bots but thats just a personal preference.

Singleplayer however is a complete sham, there is nothing SP about it, its just simply MP with bots and an overview of why you're there before the map loads. I don't know why they thought they could get away with that or why it was a good idea, but they did a good job of marketing it.

So overall, singleplayer is just a bot match, the lag is terrible but avoidable, textures could be a problem if you enjoy complaining, playing with friends is much harder than it should be, but when you get in a good server with actual people the game really does shine, and is definitely worth a purchase.

I have been an avid FPS aficionado since Wolfenstien, and this is by far the most tactically engaging title regarding cooperative team based action I have ever experienced. Funneling players into roles that strengthen tactically the gameplay with an amazing tug of war feel.

I don't want to just reiterate everything that's already being said, but the gist of the favorable reviews are all on target - mainstream media didn't get enough advertizing dollars to give it the score it deserves, and the user's who are panning it are most likely COD/Halo fans who wouldn't enjoy a team-based, thinking-man's shooter even if it was performing tactical fellatio on them.I don't want to just reiterate everything that's already being said, but the gist of the favorable reviews are all on target - mainstream media didn't get enough advertizing dollars to give it the score it deserves, and the user's who are panning it are most likely COD/Halo fans who wouldn't enjoy a team-based, thinking-man's shooter even if it was performing tactical fellatio on them.

Give this game a chance - it's not perfect (the comments about the AI and the audio/graphical glitches are mostly warranted, though my own graphical experience has been fine), but it's a deep, fluid, tactical experience that not only encourages and rewards teamwork, it actually makes it hard to be a dick by eliminating teamkilling (unless you enable FF), not allowing players into enemy spawn areas, and generally making it hard for those who aren't working together to stay alive. If you play on Xbox Live, I don't need to tell you how valuable that is. As others have said, I recommend getting some friends to play with, or at least spending some time in online play as opposed to just running the campaign with bots - you won't understand the games true potential until you do. If you've got a solid 3 - 5 friends, I can't think of a better recent FPS to spend an evening with. Read the tips in the Dossier, watch the instructional videos - take the time to learn the game, and you will not be disappointed.

It wasn't quite what I was expecting and a little bit of disappointment set in when I first tried it out. I am really glad I persevered and got used to it because it is a very different game than call of duty or battlefield which can get tedious after a few months. The game play is actually really engaging if you play it the way it was made to play. That means you have to be constantly on the move, reach the high ground by exploring and learning how to utilize the free running properly, and try to complete the objectives with team work. The reviews that are saying the game play is too repetitive don't realize that it is their own fault because they wont use all of the variety available to them. I switch between all 4 classes regularly to keep it interesting, I try all of the different guns and attachments, and I try to complete both the minor and primary objectives. If more people actually try everything out and give the game an honest chance then I bet that would hamper some of the more hasty negative reviews. The reason I gave Brink an 8 is because the AI can be really dumb and uncooperative at times, but I doubt that will be a long term problem as more and more people join the community. As for the effects, they are really good, but after playing the gears 3 beta and seeing the effects of that which are nothing short of fantastic, I think that the graphics could have been a bit more polished. The only thing wrong with the graphics is the textures seem inconsistent in some places. As for the campaign, I agreed with everyone saying that the story was crap at first. The thing that changed my mind was the audio logs that get unlocked as you play the campaign. As you unlock and listen to more and more audio logs, the politics, the tragic misunderstanding between the security and resistance, and the history of the Ark and why it became mankind's last refuge is revealed. The audio logs do show that a lot of thought was actually put into the whole story of the Brink conflict, and I also like that not a lot of time is wasted with cut scenes so that you can learn about the story at your own pace. All in all, Brink is a fun experience to me and most definitely worth looking into and forming your own opinion by a first hand experience. Expand

Trailers portrayed the game to be a fast paced, free running shoot em up, but in reality you can only hop over objects such as couches (soo much for the urban 'Ark' world we were promised), while sprinting makes no real improvement to walking. Graphics are a HUGE let down compared to other recent releases, unless your in to long faced cartoon people and endless glitches make this game too frustrating when playing against others online. Fair enough that the glitches can be updated in time and that downloadable content will become available, but character customization is not as vast as it first seems and downloadable content will not change the overall gameplay. Seems to me that Bethesda had a great idea for a new upbeat FPS which could have made one of the best modern shooters we have seen in a few years, but sadly it failed to live up to its expectations.
The campaign storyline and cinematics seem to be there only as an introduction to each battle and there is no real depth in the story, so if you a single player person i cant see why you would enjoy 'Brink'. But there is still hope for Bethesda's 'BRINK' as i do know a few people who are fans of the game and relate it to an older FPS known as 'Shadowrun' (which was popular for its online gameplay). So if you enjoyed 'Shadowrun' then chances are you are sure to love 'Brink'. I personally am not a 'Shadowrun' fan, but i am open minded and understand it will be a good play for certain gamers.

Completing objectives is fun. the one button method keeps annoying mini games from becoming repetitive and people speed planting bombs. The A.I is almost too good and is not the high point of the game.. The A.I. will often gun you down quicker than you can return fire. Often A.I on your team will over look objectives and A.I medics will walk over you. There is a huge difference when playing with live people. you can tell instantly. other players result in intense firefights over choke points. when playing with friends you will often yell for ammo and medics even if they are sitting in the room with you. the online connection problems are going to be patched and are a temporary problem that should not be used to judge the game. Why?
There are many reasons, but I'll just talk about the main ones. For the Xbox 360, it feels like the controls were just moved from the PC version and it is hard to control and maneuver the player and slight delays with button presses, AKA, bad programming.
It lacks in the "free-running" aspect which is what originally drew my attention to this game, you can only simply wall run and climb, simple things like that, and it's very, very hard to keep a "flow" because of the lag online. The single player and the online gameplay are nearly exactly the same, except with one factor, lag.
Trying to get this game to run on my computer was even a hassle, it kept crashing without reason, and the controls felt sticky and slippery and just all over the place.
The one good thing however, is when you're getting this game to actually work properly.
The objectives are interesting and it is fun to play with friends, the customization is very in depth and its pretty much the only reason I'm giving this game a 5/10.
Overall, the game seems very, very unfinished and it seemed like bethesda was trying to meet a deadline. If this game was worked on a little bit longer, I'm sure this would be an amazing gemstone of a game that would definitely be a popular first person shooter on the market.

I pre ordered Brink after seeing numerous gameplay footage and developer videos, I believed that Brink would be a fresh take on the FPS genre, but sadly that all changed when it was released.

I'll start with the campaign, without going into much detail there are two warring factions on a floating city called "The Ark" one side fights for freedom, the other, order. Players are free to choose which faction and switch campaigns at their leisure. Sadly the campaign itself is boring and repetitive and does nothing to draw a player into it's world

The gameplay is also boring, the SMART system, which allows players to cross all types of terrain does not work as well as it should and truth be told, it is not really needed in a FPS.
The multiplayer, is the exact same as the campaign, about 5 missions but with other human players unfortunatley the multi player features dreadful that often makes the game unplayable and extremely frustrating.

One of the best features about Brink is the weapon & character customisation, it allows players to truly make their character their own through 6 attachment types (under-barrels etc.) for weapons and different clothing styles. One major problem with this is that there is no option to have a female character and there is not one single female character in the whole game!

During my time with Brink I found it very frustrating to play as I constantly was killed and none of the AI characters would revive me, on that subject the AI is awful, I think that Timesplitters FP on the original Xbox had better AI. Because of the AI the game was very difficult to play, trying to complete objectives by yourself that should require several more characters.

To put it bluntly the graphics are very very poor, I have seen better graphics on the original xbox.

Overall as you may have guessed I do not like Brink it's a mess and something that no one should have the dis-pleasure of playing.

The one thing that the developers promised and delivered upon: a different approach to playing the game. The ability to see a strategically advantageous location, reach it, and utilize it effectively through SMART. It does require a certain amount of practice to use it well in-game, but once the player has reached that point it becomes a tool that will aid the player immensely. The SMART system, i believe, will be reincarnated into a new game. I only hope that the world is much larger and more diverse than the one it currently occupies. Expand

There are things I question like why every multiplayer option has to be a mission, why I have to make an ingame chat to talk to teammates, why heavy is even an option because the health is barely noticeable, and you could just hack the health post for the same effect, why they introduce characters when all they do is take up 6 possible spots and hand them to the terrible AI. Yup, 6 spots automatically go to bots. 3 on both sides. When you get into a game, even though people have said something about an early update, there is a good chance of lag. All that said, once you play it is fun, and you will get your semi-mindless shooter fix. I guess I was just hoping for a little more than mindless shooter. Expand

And while the movement system is pretty nice, I find myself vaulting on to boxes that I didn't want to, completely exposing myself to the enemy. The medic class seems to be over powered and very easy to max out, when getting frustrated I found myself switch back to this class quite often. I've been playing the cooperative campaign with a few friends, and each one of us has our own roles. Because of this I would not recommend purchasing the game if you will play solo. The friendly AI is horrendous and incredibly incompetent. The SMART system is a great addition to this shooter. It adds a new layer of depth to the battlefield. Instead of running straight into the fray, climb over some cargo containers and flank. The maps are 3d not 2d. The system takes a while to get used to, but once mastered, it will aid you greatly. The customization aspects of the game are quite detailed. You have the ability to add dress your character with many things. Each piece of clothing also has different color schemes which increase the possibilities. It's nice to have a character that is completely your own.

My major qualms with the game is the lack of content. There are only a few maps, and I have a feeling that it will get dry after awhile. Fortunately, this will be remedied in June when Splash Damage and Bethesda are releasing DLC for free. The challenge mode is also short and pointless. Weapons can be earned by completing these trials, but I would have preferred to unlock them by leveling. The classes don't have many abilities to unlock, and the max level is 20. It doesn't take long to max out, and you can cross specialize your characters into multiple classes. This makes it unnecessary to create multiple characters. Overall, the game is refreshing after multiple bland and generic FPS titles. Hopefully, Splash Damage continues to support the game. If this is done, the game will be infinitely better and worthy of a 9 or higher.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I tried not to write this as I think the guys at SplashDamage represent a fine slice of gaming history. I hope that they can produce something new and innovative in this genre, Brink is not it. Brink is a little like Killzone 3 and a little like Team Fortress but does not compare to either. It has placable turrets, a disguise ability and varied objectives like Killzone 3. The look and movement are more like Team Fortress. It has the typical classes. The player movement is great. The graphics are poor and the game play relies heavily on communication which is where it falls down. The AI is incredibly useless as the gameplay requires support between players and you dont get this from the AI. Most multiplayer games are not full with real players. AI make up the remainder and just frustrate you in their uselessness. Added to this is the fact that the players that are on are never on voice chat. This game is probably very enjoyable if played privately with full teams. Ideal for clans. It just breaks down when played between random players who don't communicate.
Its currently quite laggy as well. There are no addictive aspects to the game, its easy to put down after a short time. The challenge mode is very short and then you're just left with campaign which uses the same few maps and objectives as multiplayer. If a patch could improve the AI and add maps then that would be great as graphics are a small matter when having fun.

Brink is enjoyable, but I wish I payed twenty less dollars for it. It feels like a $40 title. There's only a handful of maps, but thankfully due to the objective-based gameplay they have a lot of replay value without getting stale (especially if you switch sides.) The whole "blends single player and multiplayer" thing they touted? It's crap. It means bots fill in the slots when you don't play multiplayer. There is an abhorrent lack of story, too. The little clips that play before rounds in the campaign make little to no sense, and even if you bother to go through the dossier to listen to unlocked audioclips, there's nothing compelling about what's going on in the least.

Where the game shines is in the teamplay aspect. As aiming is really a secondary skill for this title compared to other FPS games, controlling chokepoints and utilizing your class to it's fullest is how you get the most out of playing. There's no kill/death ratio which I absolutely love, because there's no smack-talking from childish clowns on the other team.

There are some balance issues. For one, the "stealth" class is awful. Soldiers resupply ammo, medics revive people, engineers buff gun damage and armor, and the other class (I honestly forget what it's called because I refuse to play it) provides no tactical use to a team. Other than when they are required to hack spots, they serve no team utility.

Each gun handles pretty much entirely the same. Almost all of them have similar stats across the boards, anyway. AR guns all handle the exact same with slightly differing clip sizes, all the SMGs handle the same as every other SMG, etc. Handguns are worthless because while the game claims that it ups your melee damage by giving you a knife, melee is 1,000,000% useless.

The game really, really, really needs some sort of reason to aim. As long as I'm remotely shooting at the enemy, I score hits and spray til people drop. I tend to get a lot more kills since switching to a mini-gun as a result, as ironsighting hinders your ability to drop enemies rather than help. Headshots don't kill immediately either, so no reason to aim at anything other than the midsection of baddies.

I love the graphics. The "S.M.A.R.T." system to run freely and leap over obstacles is fairly cool. It doesn't feel any different than hitting the action button on obstacles you can climb in other shooters, though, so I don't get what the big deal is. Sound could use a little tweaking as I feel overwhelmed with loudness jumping behind one of the MGs and it's too difficult to tell what guns enemies are using.

I think there's a potential for franchise development so I'm giving it a 7 rather than a 6, purely for breaking the mold and daring to be different. It's a mediocre game that still offers a lot of replayability at best and an unpolished lackluster title at worst.

To start off, I entered this game with high expectations. Now this could be good or bad depending on the person, but I followed this game religiously for a few weeks here and there, being a previous fan of Wolfenstien and Quake Wars. However, how on earth did they screw up?!
    PROS:
Gameplay - You work as a team and it is fun to take separate roles to tackle certain objectives. Each class does have its strengths and it does gear itself to helping newcomers to grapple the reins easier.
Artwork - Really well done, the world is fleshed out and you do feel a certain connected-ness to the environment because the battles do take places in areas that subliminally tell a story. Also, character customizations are really nice and gun customizations make you look more tougher and fit your style of play and character.
CONS: (unfortunately, here's where I need to say)
Story - The story starts decently, but since watching videos instead of jumping into the combat while online is pointless, so if you want to play online immediately, you cant waste time learning the little back story which doesn't do much to the game play and doesn't give enough time to make you care about your side.
Also, when playing several matches, you begin not to care about a bigger story and really just care if your team is going to work together or not.
Graphics - I said the ARTWORK was nice, not the graphical component. While yes, the areas are designed to look real and liveable, the game is always loading textures even in the middle of combat. It makes a greased-lens effect which does make it a bit distracting since the textures of everything change every couple of seconds. Also, explosions don't look nice.
Gameplay - While the team work is fun, it is not perfect. Either you get lucky and get a team that plays smart or you dont. If you become the only intelligent person trying to fix the main objective, many people just go off trying to get kills and leave you vulnerable and many times don't support. Also, the AI for allies and enemies, are terrible. While they do give support, they will not go after objectives, leaving the grunt work for you every time and the enemy AI can be unforgiving, seeming to target you more often than not. This is a game meant for TEAMS but if one person doesn't support, it can mess the entire vibe. Also, there is not a emphasis to learn and become skilled with one class. Spies are good but don't really help the team too much, Soldiers can lob Molotov all day but that's about it. Engineers are the strongest class since they can just turtle around building sentry guns at will and not be penalized whenever its destroyed. Medics heal and are important but noone ever wants to be a support, and are always in dire need. It is supposed to be balanced but when you are playing with real people who want glory and battle [a unfortunate side effect thanks to COD] noone cares about the comrade next to you unless there's nothing more important occupying your time at that moment.
and leveling up? you can level up in 1 to 3 days, depending how much you play, but even then its not a lot. Once you finish a character, its just build another one and the list goes on.

Overall, if you are not a hardcore shooter fan but a fan of team shooters, this is worth checking your time. However, if you want more serious roles and stronger games in the same respect, you could do a lot better, such as Team Fortress 2. Don't misunderstand me, this is a good game. Its just not great.

Unfortunately however, the game is not incredible due to a number of flaws in theexecution of it. It's a complex game but explained and made simple. But it feels like it was made for PC as an alternative to the dull and boring/repetive Unreal Tournament 3 kind of game. Brink runs on a decent game engine but for some reason (most likely outdated hardware) id Tech 4's graphics look like Quake 1 most of the time because the Xbox 360 takes literally seconds to load textures on just about everything. For instance, look at something really close up, turn around and quickly turn around again and you have to wait for it to load. This problem has not been addressed with id Tech 5 either so it's yet another generation issue rather than the game's fault. The difficulty is iffy and inconsistent, especially in the challenge missions which are frustrating. Be More Objective is extremely difficult even for seasoned players, because of the badly implemented AI and poor map design and spawns. The story and customisation is pretty bad but above all it's pointless. The cheesey and obvious names for weapons that look exactly like some real-life weapons makes the game feel like a gimmick, which isn't greatly aided by the hideous looking character models. As a team-based multiplayer arena shooter Brink brings some fresh innovation by combining tried-and-tested elements with arena-based gameplay and objectives. It's no TF2 though, so don't expect it to be too much fun. The voice acting is also hideous, especially when you have to hear "Brothers" at the start and end of EVERYTHING. So all in all, Brink is nothing more than a next-gen concept for reviving the arena-based FPS, but it's still very much in the prototype stage with many small but significant imperfections which need to be addressed. It's OK for developers to make mistakes but the important thing is for splash damage to learn from what they did wrong in Brink and try to make their next iteration more polished. The current state of this game has too many issues and can't be taken seriously at all. The idea is exciting, but because it's plagued in just about every department of what constitutes a "good" game I can't brand it as good. Certainly below average performance. It has potential though. Story: I didn't get the game for it's story, but it's still a pretty awful plot. The rebellion VS. the authorities is pretty common, whether it be movies or games. Actually being able to pick which side to be on does add a LITTLE flavor to it, but not much at all.

Gameplay: The combat itself is decent. It's not good, it's not bad, it's just decent. The guns in the game are relatively easy to manipulate, instead of holding down the fire button, just keep tapping it for no recoil. But of course, the main part of Brink is the objective. Now the objectives are just about the most repetitive thing in the game. You rebuild, destroy, and hack everything. That's fine for your non-story driven multiplayer, but it makes for a lousy campaign. Not to mention your team's AI very frequently goes off and does some minuscule objective, leaving you to push the game ahead by yourself. This makes the game stale, quick. Brink is certainly not your average game, but that's not always a good thing.

Multiplayer: Near nonexistent. The multiplayer is not your average Call of Duty multiplayer, it's you and a few other people (and the annoying as ever AI) playing the few campaign missions the game has to offer. Not to say that there is no competitive aspect to it, or that all multiplayer must follow the Call of Duty standards, but there's just no incentive to play the multiplayer as it is just a mirror of the single-player.

Controls: The default mapping of the button layout is pretty shockingly erratic, so I almost instantly switched over the the "Call to Duty" controls, which sets the game to a typical FPS button layout. Going off these controls, the game runs pretty smooth. It's certainly nothing to save the game from its other flaws, but it keeps one more thing from frustrating you.

Visuals: The graphics are also another savior to the game. No, they are not mind-blowing, but they give you something nice to look at as you watch your team run around and go capture another command post.

Where Credit is Due: Probably 4 points out of this review is right here. The customization in this game is outstanding. The only game to date that I think surpasses it is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which is my favorite game of the past couple years. There are endless possibilities from the clothes to the guns to the size of your character. It really does boost the game's replay value that would otherwise be out the window. Also, the little side missions are actually fun to play, mostly because of the fact that you have no team. There are still frustrating ones, though, so it's not great bundles of fun.

The Bottom Line: Splash Damage did not blow me away with what was a very hyped-up game. The core elements of the game are for the most part lacking, but the polish and what should have been the lesser parts of the game do an exceptional job. It's hard to look back on this game and say that I bought it on release date, because I was very disappointed with the return on investment. $59.99 is nowhere near what I would pay for it now. Brink is at heart a multiplayer game, Just like Splash Damage's previous game ET:QW. The gameplay is simple and so are the classes, the story of both Rebel and Ark Security are boring. The guns are generic, gameplay does not flow well and matchmaking is pathetic.

However, after playing it for a few hours, my expectations were diminished. All the attachments in the world won't cover the fact that your guns are very weak, sometimes taking an entire magazine to kill one enemy. Then there's the A.I. This game is clearly designed to be played with human players, because your A.I. partners are dumber than a bag of bags, ignoring objectives, standing still being bullet magnets and only coming to your aid when they feel like it. Meanwhile, the enemy A.I. seems to fire magic homing bullets, because you'll get hit almost every time. And there's the gameplay itself. Every match seems to lean more towards the defending team rather than the attacking team. Between that and your dumb A.I. partners, this game is virtually unplayable offline. Again, this game is designed to be played against other humans, and even then it's not that great. This game is such a disappointment. If they make a new Brink, I'm not going to buy it unless it's really, really good. Expand

This game had so much potential, but it was poorly executed. The textures are washed out, the gameplay is sub-par and the shooting isn't great. The A.I. is poor and the game-modes aren't intriguing enough to warrant more than one playthrough. If they end up making a sequel, I hope the ideas get executed properly.

The game is bearable (and sometimes even fun) if you play only online (and hopefully no lag) with other real people, not AI. Otherwise, the game is garbage. I gave this game a 5, mainly because it offered the easiest 1000 achievements. If not, I will give it a 3.

Playing online is impossible due to LAG. The campaign is forgettable and theres practically no storytelling or character development. All you will get is a 10-20 second cutscene full of random people before each mission. And the game doesn't address who these people are. Missions lack variety and start feeling repetitive very quickly. I was bored after the second mission. Teammate A.I. is just terrible. They focus on anything besides the main objective. I had to do everything myself. This game is unfinished. If there is a sequel I hope Splash Damage solves these problems. This game had so much potential but couldn't live up to it. Expand

Defend as a team, attack as a team. .nothing much more. Brink has very unique graphics similar to borderlands where it was meant to be like that, which I like, It takes away the judgement of graphics and focuses on gameplay. .which was "meh" To upgrade your weapons and put attachments on them you would have to play mini games to get awards, by yourself and with friends. I thought this was good at first, but then I just wanted to skip them and played it in the missions, even though the mini games tried to teach you things that people should already know how to do. The story could of brought the game even more positive reviews, but sadly their is nothing. just little clips that was easily skipped of people talking about their problems and little fire fights going on, nothing important because they wanted to focus on "gameplay" Brink is fun with friends and a full lobby of people. But later on I sold Brink because I never played it again after 10 hours of gameplay. Expand

Brink was massively previewed. The stage was set. It failed to deliver. It was sadly, over hyped. Brink is too difficult even on the easier difficulties, and the story is lacking depth and any genuine intrigue.

This game probably deserves its rating, but is definitely worth playing. It had a bunch of hype before its release, which is why its ratings suffered. But it's a fun game with a multiplayer feel and tons of replayability. You can currently find it in the $5 range, which especially makes it a smart buy for people looking for a quality co-op game. Try it out!

Brink is a surprisingly fun and refreshing fps in a world full of military Sims. Sure it has its issues like a lack of polish, a non existent story and lots of bugs, but if you feel swamped by traditional fps, brinks cool ideas and interesting mechanics are what you need.

The matchmaking system was NOT well-thought out, forcing you to pick a mission, and then looking for people who are on the same mission is the reverse of what makes sense in online matchmaking. This is a 2011 game, but we still can't figure out how to let players pick an active server?

Shame on Bethesda for releasing this game so early, and hyping it up with nothing short of lies.
The gunplay is absurd. Sniper rifles are useless, because the level design is an absolutely bland jumble of hallways. Assault rifles take entire clips - or more to kill other players, and in a game with nothing but NPCs as teammates, achieving anything at all with the game's extremely limited AI is beyond difficult, and does not even approach fun.

The story is mediocre, and has 0 depth or development. The voice acting is laughable, and would be hilarious if they had intended it as the cheesiest one-liners and goofy 'call to arms' type speeches.

The game has a great movement system, as others have said, and that is it. Half finished, one-dimensional gameplay, poor level design, poor AI, irrelevant customization and an absent community make this game unfit even for bargain bins.

    Avoid at all costs.

The gameplay is simple, much like Team Fortress 2. The weapons feel useless and the supposed SMART system is actually quite dumb, along with the simple Utopia gone wrong plot line. But this game shines in the character customization, it is near limitless.

However, sadly not much replay value offered here. 5/10

    Brink is a decent shooter.

Brink is squad-based,not in single player though. You have to do amazing,as your AI teammates are stupid as hell.Thankfully, the gunplay is the game's biggest strength The framerate is solid, but the game looks ugly, with bad textures etc. The character customisation is cool aswell, with a lot of combinations to make some silly-looking soldiers.

I saw the Bethesda logo on the cover of the Xbox 360 game Brink and was looking forward to a great gaming time. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. The beginning of the game is amusing. The controls are good and the campaign is fun. But the graphics and animations are just ok and the characters move like bricks. Even the multiplayer is disappointing after some matches.
