    Parkour elements are fun and the character customization is awesome but overall pretty half baked. Campaign is just multiplayer maps with AI. Multiplayer is fun but poorly balanced. Overall forgettable.

    I saw the Bethesda logo on the cover of the Xbox 360 game Brink and was looking forward to a great gaming time. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. The beginning of the game is amusing. The controls are good and the campaign is fun. But the graphics and animations are just ok and the characters move like bricks. Even the multiplayer is disappointing after some matches.

    Mediocre at best game, with constant bugs and pop in graphics. Also has a very stale story that you cant really engage in. The gameplay is pretty good though

The gunplay is fun and responsive, and the emphasis on teamwork and objective gameplay makes this an amazing squad-level co-op game.     This game was advertised to look like an awesome, super customisable free running game. Instead we got a little bit of limited customisation (but creative i must admit), and relatively boring free running as you can only jump a few centimetres off the ground. The guns get old quickly too.     Brink was massively previewed. The stage was set. It failed to deliver. It was sadly, over hyped. Brink is too difficult even on the easier difficulties, and the story is lacking depth and any genuine intrigue.

    Brink is a surprisingly fun and refreshing fps in a world full of military Sims. Sure it has its issues like a lack of polish, a non existent story and lots of bugs, but if you feel swamped by traditional fps, brinks cool ideas and interesting mechanics are what you need.

    The gameplay is simple, much like Team Fortress 2. The weapons feel useless and the supposed SMART system is actually quite dumb, along with the simple Utopia gone wrong plot line. But this game shines in the character customization, it is near limitless.

    However, sadly not much replay value offered here. 5/10

    It's Stiff the game is and the character creation is not too good but i just love the gameplay and the franchise to do the parkour it's just sooo great

    what was suppose to be a new innovative and ground breaking new FPS with parkour elements, came off as clunky, unisnspired and gimmicky. I mean its ok I guess, but there are so many better FPS games out there, and this one was such a dissapointment

The game launched prematurely, and many core features (like online multiplayer) were so broken on launch that the entire community has abandoned it, and you will not find anyone to play with online.     Shame on Bethesda for releasing this game so early, and hyping it up with nothing short of lies.
    The gunplay is absurd. Sniper rifles are useless, because the level design is an absolutely bland jumble of hallways. Assault rifles take entire clips - or more to kill other players, and in a game with nothing but NPCs as teammates, achieving anything at all with the game's extremely limited AI is beyond difficult, and does not even approach fun.

    The story is mediocre, and has 0 depth or development. The voice acting is laughable, and would be hilarious if they had intended it as the cheesiest one-liners and goofy 'call to arms' type speeches.

    The game has a great movement system, as others have said, and that is it. Half finished, one-dimensional gameplay, poor level design, poor AI, irrelevant customization and an absent community make this game unfit even for bargain bins.

    This game had so much potential, but it was poorly executed. The textures are washed out, the gameplay is sub-par and the shooting isn't great. The A.I. is poor and the game-modes aren't intriguing enough to warrant more than one playthrough. If they end up making a sequel, I hope the ideas get executed properly.

    I thought that Brink would be awesome, and I would love the game, but I was wrong. It is all past now. This game is unfinished and nearly impossible, and I didn't finish, because of the game's roughness. It was difficult on some of the story missions, and the game-play was not too much to put a smile on my face.     This game probably deserves its rating, but is definitely worth playing. It had a bunch of hype before its release, which is why its ratings suffered. But it's a fun game with a multiplayer feel and tons of replayability. You can currently find it in the $5 range, which especially makes it a smart buy for people looking for a quality co-op game. Try it out!

Some people say this game runs fairly well, but my experience was plain awful, campaign sucked a fatty and was repetitive to the point that I only finished as one faction.     I had extremely high hopes for Brink before it was released. The pre-release videos showed a great FPS games with amazing team-oriented multiplayer utilizing classes of soldiers attempting to complete various mission types. Even better was the amount of customization allowed for outfits, physical features and weapons.     All I have to say is wow; Brink has had the honor of hitting the one of worst games I've ever played this year. It is incredibly frustrating (from a single-player point of view), in addition this game is just an incomplete mess as there are some graphic texture problems that are pretty noticeable as you go through the well designed maps. If you are looking for story line you will be dissapointed, however as an arena style fps this game was thoroughly entertaining.     The game is bearable (and sometimes even fun) if you play only online (and hopefully no lag) with other real people, not AI. Otherwise, the game is garbage. I gave this game a 5, mainly because it offered the easiest 1000 achievements. If not, I will give it a 3.

I thought this was good at first, but then I just wanted to skip them and played it in the missions, even though the mini games tried to teach you things that people should already know how to do. The story could of brought the game even more positive reviews, but sadly their is nothing. just little clips that was easily skipped of people talking about their problems and little fire fights going on, nothing important because they wanted to focus on "gameplay" Brink is fun with friends and a full lobby of people. Missions lack variety and start feeling repetitive very quickly. I was bored after the second mission. Teammate A.I. is just terrible. They focus on anything besides the main objective. I had to do everything myself. This game is unfinished. If there is a sequel I hope Splash Damage solves these problems. This game had so much potential but couldn't live up to it.… Expand

    Brink is at heart a multiplayer game, Just like Splash Damage's previous game ET:QW. The gameplay is simple and so are the classes, the story of both Rebel and Ark Security are boring. The guns are generic, gameplay does not flow well and matchmaking is pathetic.

    Credible concept and admirable effort at an arena-based shooter which is modern, class-based, fast-paced, objective-orientated and still skillful since there aren't any stupid killstreaks or perks in the game. Unfortunately however, the game is not incredible due to a number of flaws in theexecution of it. It's a complex game but explained and made simple. But it feels like it was made forCredible concept and admirable effort at an arena-based shooter which is modern, class-based, fast-paced, objective-orientated and still skillful since there aren't any stupid killstreaks or perks in the game. Unfortunately however, the game is not incredible due to a number of flaws in theexecution of it. It's a complex game but explained and made simple. But it feels like it was made for PC as an alternative to the dull and boring/repetive Unreal Tournament 3 kind of game. Brink runs on a decent game engine but for some reason (most likely outdated hardware) id Tech 4's graphics look like Quake 1 most of the time because the Xbox 360 takes literally seconds to load textures on just about everything. For instance, look at something really close up, turn around and quickly turn around again and you have to wait for it to load. This problem has not been addressed with id Tech 5 either so it's yet another generation issue rather than the game's fault. The difficulty is iffy and inconsistent, especially in the challenge missions which are frustrating. Be More Objective is extremely difficult even for seasoned players, because of the badly implemented AI and poor map design and spawns. The story and customisation is pretty bad but above all it's pointless. The cheesey and obvious names for weapons that look exactly like some real-life weapons makes the game feel like a gimmick, which isn't greatly aided by the hideous looking character models. As a team-based multiplayer arena shooter Brink brings some fresh innovation by combining tried-and-tested elements with arena-based gameplay and objectives. It's no TF2 though, so don't expect it to be too much fun. The voice acting is also hideous, especially when you have to hear "Brothers" at the start and end of EVERYTHING. So all in all, Brink is nothing more than a next-gen concept for reviving the arena-based FPS, but it's still very much in the prototype stage with many small but significant imperfections which need to be addressed. It's OK for developers to make mistakes but the important thing is for splash damage to learn from what they did wrong in Brink and try to make their next iteration more polished. The current state of this game has too many issues and can't be taken seriously at all. The idea is exciting, but because it's plagued in just about every department of what constitutes a "good" game I can't brand it as good. Certainly below average performance.     The gameplay is also boring, the SMART system, which allows players to cross all types of terrain does not work as well as it should and truth be told, it is not really needed in a FPS.
    The multiplayer, is the exact same as the campaign, about 5 missions but with other human players unfortunatley the multi player features dreadful that often makes the game unplayable and extremely frustrating.

    One of the best features about Brink is the weapon & character customisation, it allows players to truly make their character their own through 6 attachment types (under-barrels etc.) for weapons and different clothing styles. One major problem with this is that there is no option to have a female character and there is not one single female character in the whole game!

    During my time with Brink I found it very frustrating to play as I constantly was killed and none of the AI characters would revive me, on that subject the AI is awful, I think that Timesplitters FP on the original Xbox had better AI. Because of the AI the game was very difficult to play, trying to complete objectives by yourself that should require several more characters.

    To put it bluntly the graphics are very very poor, I have seen better graphics on the original xbox.

    Brink is load of crap. The campaign is horrible as hell and the story sucks balls.The multiplayer is just so so i can't explan how bad it is.And the challenges are just so stupid. Campaign 3/10 Multiplayer 2/10 Challenges 2/10 Brink 2.5/10

    First of all, whats wrong with people playing this game? I have almost 1 bad report from every top score I get playing on multiplayer ...
    The game is not bad at all, but it's not good as they wanted to sold us. Poor character creation and poor visuals on Xbox compared to PC. For the character classes the only one who really is worth is the engineer, the others are useless.

Tie it all together with a virtually non-existant story, which plays as more a pregame cutscene than a driving force for the game, and it makes for a game that is very difficult to enjoy. I really wanted to love Brink, but honestly, in a market flooded with FPS clones, there are plenty of better substitutes the Brink… Expand

    Storyline is utterly forgettable, Gameplay is no fun, and the graphics look like it was from 2007. But forget all that. How much more overhyped could this game be? I bought this game last year because my friend wanted me to buy it. Turns out it sucked. Rent it rating at best. 4.0/10

    This game isn't bad. It's just not that good either; it's kind of middle of the road. The graphics aren't very good. The "story" is below par compared to other FPSs. My only real advice is instead of playing a game that takes ideas from TF2, why don't you just buy The Orange Box? It has TF2 in it. Plus more games. It's like 10 dollars at GameStop.

This and Rage have contributed to my decision to not buy a Bethesda published game that does not have the name Fallout or Elder Scrolls in the title.… Expand

    I went as low as I could while still making this a mixed review, because Brink is not a good game. Let's begin.

    Story: I didn't get the game for it's story, but it's still a pretty awful plot. The rebellion VS. the authorities is pretty common, whether it be movies or games. Actually being able to pick which side to be on does add a LITTLE flavor to it, but not much at all. Gameplay: The    I went as low as I could while still making this a mixed review, because Brink is not a good game. Let's begin.

    Story: I didn't get the game for it's story, but it's still a pretty awful plot. The rebellion VS. the authorities is pretty common, whether it be movies or games. Actually being able to pick which side to be on does add a LITTLE flavor to it, but not much at all.

    Gameplay: The combat itself is decent. It's not good, it's not bad, it's just decent. The guns in the game are relatively easy to manipulate, instead of holding down the fire button, just keep tapping it for no recoil. But of course, the main part of Brink is the objective. Now the objectives are just about the most repetitive thing in the game. You rebuild, destroy, and hack everything. That's fine for your non-story driven multiplayer, but it makes for a lousy campaign. Not to mention your team's AI very frequently goes off and does some minuscule objective, leaving you to push the game ahead by yourself. This makes the game stale, quick. Brink is certainly not your average game, but that's not always a good thing.

    Multiplayer: Near nonexistent. The multiplayer is not your average Call of Duty multiplayer, it's you and a few other people (and the annoying as ever AI) playing the few campaign missions the game has to offer. Not to say that there is no competitive aspect to it, or that all multiplayer must follow the Call of Duty standards, but there's just no incentive to play the multiplayer as it is just a mirror of the single-player.

    Controls: The default mapping of the button layout is pretty shockingly erratic, so I almost instantly switched over the the "Call to Duty" controls, which sets the game to a typical FPS button layout. Going off these controls, the game runs pretty smooth. It's certainly nothing to save the game from its other flaws, but it keeps one more thing from frustrating you.

    Visuals: The graphics are also another savior to the game. No, they are not mind-blowing, but they give you something nice to look at as you watch your team run around and go capture another command post.

    Where Credit is Due: Probably 4 points out of this review is right here. The customization in this game is outstanding. The only game to date that I think surpasses it is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which is my favorite game of the past couple years. There are endless possibilities from the clothes to the guns to the size of your character. It really does boost the game's replay value that would otherwise be out the window. Also, the little side missions are actually fun to play, mostly because of the fact that you have no team. There are still frustrating ones, though, so it's not great bundles of fun.

    The Bottom Line: Splash Damage did not blow me away with what was a very hyped-up game. The core elements of the game are for the most part lacking, but the polish and what should have been the lesser parts of the game do an exceptional job. It's hard to look back on this game and say that I bought it on release date, because I was very disappointed with the return on investment. $59.99 is nowhere near what I would pay for it now. This game is maybe worth buying for fifteen, MAYBE twenty bucks, but otherwise, keep your money in your pocket.    … Expand

    Well, when I got into the game I discovered this was not the case. The maps were as boring as a brownbread ham sandwich, the customisation elements seemed rather pointless, the SMART system felt tedious, the voice actors lacked talent, the graphics are average, and the story was.....wait, what story?

    Despite all of its flaws, to its credit the guns do feel pretty solid and the teamplay works pretty well. In addition to the multiplayer, there is a pretty neat challenge mode, but there's only about four challenges, and the only replay value attached to them is in trying to achieve more points.

    But there's yet more flaws. The game is CRAMMED with bugs and graphical issues, and in a foolish attempt to 'unify' single-player and multiplayer, there is only eight levels. In the entire game. Each of these maps have one mission. And that's it. The game doesn't even have enough replay value to keep its players occupied.

    In spite of all the teamwork-gameplay and 'freshness', the most Brink is capable of achieving is the status of 'just another shooter'. Behind the illusion, you still have unlockable guns, perks and abilities, which, at heart, makes Brink a CoD clone, really. While it's new ideas could have been revolutionary, a lack of a story and bad voice actors keeps players disinterested in the missions; you quickly tire of the eight missions; the dull graphics make you want to fall asleep.....I could go on forever.

    In conclusion, Brink is probably simply best for the kind of person who's sick of Call of Duty to pick Brink up for five pounds when the price drops. They'll be entertained by the moments of fun, but to be fair Brink will probably end up being condemned to the bottom of the games collection, forcing you to wonder what this could have been.    … Expand

But all the Brink AI seem to want to do is take command posts (secondary objectives which give your team a health/supply boost) and then run off only for the command posts to get captured by one or two enemy team members. Thus this cycle repeats itself. However, the full customization of your character was a very good idea, and the graphics are very good. The Parkour aspect means nothing to me though sadly, because if I wanted to survive taking an objective by myself I had to make myself a heavy body type, meaning I can barely climb over crates and low walls.     This game is really not too good. Crappy Graphics, Boring Storyline. Oh and don't get me started on the A.I just DON'T! The only good thing is the Shooting and Custimazation. But that only feels like Half a Game. Overall this game felt rushed.

    This is a straight up multiplayer game, i'm wondering if they forgot the campaign mode or something. At first when i saw the trailer for this game I thought it was a xbox live arcade game like Monday night combat. It should have been. Its rental or a 5 dollar bin pick up if that.

If you're interested in seeing how the game pans out and make a deduction of your own no one is going to stop you from buying it but please consider renting or checking out some gameplay videos before proceeding.… Expand

Gameplay wise it is a cross between team based strategic and tactical fps, most similar to MAG and Section 8 which requires you to learn how to attack as a squad, not a lone wolf but has lightened up the approach with a bit of Team Fortress 2 arcade like feel. It has the visual inspiration of Borderlands mixed with Halo ODST and your character has customizations and cooldowns much like in Borderlands. Open character movement has been well implemented and inspired by Mirror's edge whereby it wants to allow you to climb anywhere on the run seamlessly and this works well. So basically the game is forcing you to use skills from 6 games and I think this is why i see so many moderate reviews for the game. Likely if you have not played a lot of games you are going to get overwhelmed by this game and think it's poorly designed, but if you are a hardcore player you will likely understand the game as second nature and love it. The game is technically pretty solid but i rate it an 8 for three reasons. One bad feature about the game is it is essentially a hardcore game buy only allows 8 by 8 play. I do not feel this is adequate to contribute to its freshness factor or staying power. Second problem i fell is potential for imbalance. I feel a 8 man squad of 4 engineers laying turrets combined with 4 medics to heal everyone up and advance to objectives by relying on the turrets was an overlooked flaw that could be used online. Thirdly, a lot of the guns just all seem the same. I'm ok with this though as i understand that they need to be that way to keep gameplay online balanced as much as possible. Do yourself a favor and consider my review if you are new to gaming, this is a great game that got punished by bad reviews by players not ready to adapt to this type of game.     Why?
    There are many reasons, but I'll just talk about the main ones. For the Xbox 360, it feels like the controls were just moved from the PC version and it is hard to control and maneuver the player and slight delays with button presses, AKA, bad programming.
    It lacks in the "free-running" aspect which is what originally drew my attention to this game, you can only simply wall run and climb, simple things like that, and it's very, very hard to keep a "flow" because of the lag online. The single player and the online gameplay are nearly exactly the same, except with one factor, lag.
    Trying to get this game to run on my computer was even a hassle, it kept crashing without reason, and the controls felt sticky and slippery and just all over the place.
    The one good thing however, is when you're getting this game to actually work properly.
    The objectives are interesting and it is fun to play with friends, the customization is very in depth and its pretty much the only reason I'm giving this game a 5/10.
    Overall, the game seems very, very unfinished and it seemed like bethesda was trying to meet a deadline. If this game was worked on a little bit longer, I'm sure this would be an amazing gemstone of a game that would definitely be a popular first person shooter on the market.    … Expand

In reality they could get along very easily, but i dont want to put spoilers here so lets skip that. The leveling system is unfair, it would be ok if all it gave you was cosmetic stuff like new costumes (which it does), but it also makes your character have more abilities or stronger abilities, which gives you an advantage over players with lower level. There are f***loads of bugs, ranging from the harmless ones, like text errors or wrong messages (says you have to defend, when you really have to attack etc) to those annoying and gamebreaking, like game suddenly losing sound, crashing or you cannot see other players. The netcode is really terrible too. You will lagg even with a decent internet connection, even if you wont, the game will still run so clunky that you will feel as you did. With slow internet, forget about multiplayer, the game will be unplayable, stick to playing with bots. But dont worry, you wont loose much, because even in the multi you will meet more AI bots than real players. And the AI in this game stand for Artifical Idiocy. Its as if they was purposedly coded to be so dumb, so that you can easily tell its a bot, and not a person with a brain. Talking about stupid, lets talk about the whole S.M.A.R.T. thing, which is basically climbing and jumping over fences. Sure thats cool, because it gives you more movement freedom than most games, but you wont use it that often anyway, except to gett from spawn point to the battlefield. First of all, you almost cant do any of this stuff with heavy body (which is the most efficient in combat), second, you cant shoot when doing all those tricks, making you an easy target, and thrid, the maps are not really designed for this, as you mostly fight indoors, but even on streetfights you wont be able to climp on a building and jump over roofs (like in the trailer). Also the weapons in the game are really boring, all you have are machineguns with diffirent skin and slightly diffirent stats. There are also few otherweapon types but they seem to be significantly weaker than the machineguns, so everyone just uses machineguns (which i personally hate). Overall, Brink is a game that looks good and promising, but has so many flaws that i just can't give it anything close to a positive rating, even if i wanted to.… Expand

I've had the luxury of buying Brink only recently, after the latest patch has fixed up online lag issues and downloading the newest free (temporarily) DLC Agents of Change, so I honestly couldn't tell you how good the game was back during release. I only know that the game is extremely enjoyable now, and provides a refreshing new online shooter since I'm bored with most of the others on the market. I'll start with the negatives, which leads me to the campaign storyline. To sum it up, it's pretty weak, and it's essentially there so that can Splash Damage can check the "Campaign" box off of the Brink to-do list. It's also very short, containing a mere 8 levels per side (Security or Resistance) which only last about 15 minutes each. Switching sides results in the exact same map layout, with a slightly different objective (I.E. Security=Defend Tower, Resistance=Destroy Tower). The graphics are outdated but won't make you cringe. Brink is host to multiple poor design choices, one of which being that the game does not support any lobby system whatsoever. You simply join a game and invite your friend, hoping that there's an extra slot open (which there usually is). Another bad choice is the lack of any actual statistics that can be viewed in-game. Sure there's leaderboards for points scored on certain maps, but no kill tracking nor any sort of interesting numbers to view. Unless of course you go online, in which case you can only view a handful of things. You can create and save up to 20 different characters, but won't they don't tell you is that there's literally no point to it unless you're bored out of your mind. There's no "Prestige" like in COD, and your rank and level begins at 1 again, but with everything locked. Extremely pointless, and I just can't imagine myself creating another character for no incentive. The online multiplayer is made up of the exact same single player campaign missions down to the last detail. Splash Damage must've become lazy at this time around during development. The maps are pretty solid when they play like they're meant to, but other times they'll wind up becoming a one-sided shooting range. One team will be required to proceed through a bottle-necked killbox while the other sits patiently and mows them down as they desperately try to escort a very slow-moving hostage to a zone. Moving on to the positives. The sound effects on this game are top-notch. Every gun is a real recording of a gunshot and it really gets the adrenaline pumping when you begin unleashing furious carnage on your foes, laying waste with your Gotlung Minigun. The shooting mechanics are excellent, and the new S.M.A.R.T. system is a breeze to use. There aren't as many weapons in your arsenal as one would expect, but they're all extremely balanced (save for a few Assault Rifles). The weapon customization is satisfying, but I wish that you could customize your gun camos. There are a ton of unlockable abilities with each class as well as some universal ones that really help keep each class fresh and exciting. The classes, however, are a little unbalanced in terms of points, with the Medic scoring ridiculously higher on average than all of the other classes. Character customization isn't as deep as I had assumed, but there's still tons of variation to keep everyone looking unique. You will max out your rank and level within a week, which is kind of a downer, but it's still a fun climb. The game awards you with points and experience for literally almost any action you can do, giving that extra incentive for players to forget about kills and focus on teamwork. This is a double-edged sword, however, since one revive (for example) is the equivalent of multiple kills. It may be worth more points, but in this situation, it's certainly not more useful to the team as a whole. Despite this, it still works, and prevents me from feeling worthless when I frantically run from teammate to teammate distributing ammo. I've been playing this with my two friends nonstop for the past few days, and I really just can't put it down. Overall, this game is highly addicting, and I would go so far as to say that it's worth a full price purchase. It's similar to other shooters, but also different. I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, so if you're still hesitant, give it a rent and decide for yourself. I'm extremely satisfied and can easily see myself logging in more hours for months down the line.… Expand

After a few months from having it released, I still think it's a great game and it has everything that I was looking for (except the "intelligent" AI) , but it was missing the execution, it just didn't feel like I thought it would. The real problem with it over everything else is the lack of a decent party system which is needed for a game like Brink.     The thing I don't understand is why Bethesda (the publisher, mind you) is getting so much flak for a game they didn't even create. Splash Damage (the developer) did a fantastic trying to bring the FPS genre out of the same crap seen in every COD/Halo/enter generic shooter title here. The addition of the free running only adds to this. The in game art, the character design and the use of color makes this one very pretty game to look at. The classes were well thought out and essentially this game is a smaller class based game like TF2 but with customizable weapon loadouts.

    The only thing I did not like about this game, other then the lack of a party system, was the fact that you could unlock almost every gun and attachment in about a good 20 minutes of playing the challenges. If they would of spread the attachments out as well as the weapons people would still be playing this like crazy just like the do with their CODs and Halos to unlock everything that they wanted to. COD with the weapons and Halo with the outfits.

    Like most had been waiting for this game, so i traded in crysis 2 to get it, i player it 3 times in total, for no more than an hour each. single player is EXACTLY the same as multiplayer just with bots instead. No real story to it, although the challenges can be fun with a friend on xbox live. If i knew what i know now, i would skip buying this game,and save your money for something more refined.

    The parkour mechanic is alright, but it doesn't work well. I actually would have loved it if you just pressed LB to turn parkour mode on or off, but instead, Splash Damage just HAD to do the following: Press LB to turn sprint on or off and HOLD LB for parkour.

    There are ONLY 4 challenges to do, all have 1 star, 2 star and 3 star level. So the challenges are terrible.

    Brink is, to me, quite an unfinished title. I may hate the A.I, but I can always go on Multiplayer right? The SMART mechanic is a nice addition to the game and I will hopefully be getting the free DLC when it releases at the end of the month. If you have an Xbox 360 and Brink, I'd be happy to play with you. Brink is a great shooter, but designed for multiplayer experiences. Ignore the problems and you should have a fine shooter.    … Expand

    There was no real feeling of shooting when I fired my rifle, the weapon seemed ineffective and limp as the enemy in front of me slightly wriggled while I emptied an entire magazine into his cliched urban soldier body. After all, who can't take 46 rounds to the chest from an assault rifle whilst hacking a computer?
    I have spoken to numerous friends about this game (who have also fallen foul to Brink's over confident advertising campaign), the outcome was one of anger and a an increasing lack of faith in modern computer gaming development. I'm off to sell my copy on a well know auction site now. It'll go for a cheap price but I still beg you, don't buy it from me or anywhere else.    … Expand

I heard so much about the character customization and how many different possibilities there are. That is a very cool feature. As for the rest of the game, I wish it could have been done differently. I don't like how the multiplayer is almost the exact same thing as the single player. The other thing I do not like is how the resistance missions and the security missions are just flipped around. For example, instead of guarding the person, you need to kill him. You also don't get new maps for different campaigns. The reason it got a 7 from me is because the first time playing, and getting to use the parkour system "SMART" is pretty neat.… Expand

    I awaited this game for a full year, since I first saw a glimpse of the game back in April of 2010. So, of course I pre-ordered the game and picked up my game at midnight. From the time I put the game in I played for a solid 6-8 hours straight. Despite the common lag and shoddy graphics. I waited for this game for a year, I wanted to enjoy it. Well, it turns out even after the patch to fixI awaited this game for a full year, since I first saw a glimpse of the game back in April of 2010. So, of course I pre-ordered the game and picked up my game at midnight. From the time I put the game in I played for a solid 6-8 hours straight. Despite the common lag and shoddy graphics. I waited for this game for a year, I wanted to enjoy it. Well, it turns out even after the patch to fix the lag and other issues, the game is still "unplayable" by my standards. Even if you get into a game with a decent connection, you are most likely playing verse a team of bots with only bots to aid you as well. THIS IS NOT A MULTIPLAYER GAME by any means. They had a great idea and somehow managed to f*%k it up big. So if I were to give them 5 stars at all, it would be for biggest failure of all time. By far the worst game I've ever played. Sadly I had to accept $10 for it from Gamestop. Thank you Bethesda for stealing my money.… Expand

Unless you have friends that can play it too, you're at the mercy of playing with incapable AI teammates that are more interested in capturing and re-capturing command posts versus actually completing the main objective. And I swear to crap that constantly hearing "THEY"VE CAPTURED OUR COMMAND POST" just because comparable with hearing nails on a chalk board. I made the mistake of buying this, where it will remain on my shelf after possibly playing only about 10 hours of it. This game is also the reason I joined, and will be using Metacritic from now on before I buy any more games!!!… Expand

    Brink sounded great when it was about to be released a team based style fps with mirrors edge parkour type stuff sounded like a great and fun idea and whats really sad is they had a great idea for a game but when i started playing it first off your teammates AI and the enemy AI was HORRIBLE and the game was just boring my advise is to buy L.A noire or somthing this game is horrible stay away

This is not a game you can jump into, and expect to have your weapon as your best friend. There will be actual times where *OMG* you will have to take cover and work with your team. Another thing is the way you can effortlessly switch between classes, and unlock the virtually hundreds of items to use in the game. Customization is the name of this games revolution, and so far there is nothing that can match it. The fact that you can build multiple characters to even further the customization makes this game have thorough replay value. For all those who are bored with CoD and KIllzone, it's time to pop this game in and learn the new meaning of tactics.… Expand

    While Brink is a wonderful multiplayer game, it is just that: A multiplayer game. The singleplayer AI lacks the intelligence to create a full experience, while the objectives are often much harder when you have no competent allies to help. Beyond the bad AI, Brink is a wonderful game. While it could use a better tutorial, and perhaps more of a backstory, the gameplay is phenomenal.

When playing co-op on-line, even on easy, the computer controlled players seem too powerful and I often wonder how I got killed. There are too many choking points on the maps where you are killing and getting killed far too often. And while the movement system is pretty nice, I find myself vaulting on to boxes that I didn't want to, completely exposing myself to the enemy. The medic class seems to be over powered and very easy to max out, when getting frustrated I found myself switch back to this class quite often. Tip: when you shoot an enemy, make sure you kill them in "last stand" so the medic doesn't revive them.… Expand

    I give brink a 9 out of 10 simply because it is a great break from the bleak genre that is first person shooters. Too many games have been created that have fallen under the concept designs first laid down by either Halo 2 or Call of duty: Modern Warfare. However, if you are willing to have a hell of a good time with your friends, killing other people and working as a team to have success, and be able to jump around like however you damn well please, and are willing to overlook slight imperfections that don't heed game play in the slightest that then definitely play this game, you will love it… Expand

Unfortunately the solo AI in Brink is so broken that there is no point in playing. Your virtual teammates are completely useless so unless you do all the mission specific tasksBrink is so far my biggest disappointment of the year. Brink had a number of things going for it , a quirky art style, good customization of weapons and play style, a potentially good story line. But it fails to deliver where it really counts in the game play. Solo is a nonstarter and unless you are playing with a group of friends the online "team play" that should be the selling point is non existent. The two days I played everyone just went their own way. This is one more game i am glad I rented first.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm giving it a 2. I beat the game in 2 days. Unlocked every weapon, attachment, and beat every mission, all offline. The plot has 2 sides, each give just enough of a cutscene to start the next mission, but no background, no story, no depth. It doesn't tell why you have to set off a missile, or raid slums for a vaccine. The real meat of that comes from the audio logs you unlock, and even they don't tell much. The gameplay is a standard shooter. Play CoD MW2 and it's the same thing. 3 body types determine what weapons you can use. You CAN customize what attachments go on which weapons, kind of like Army of 2, but the overall impact is tiny. Most often, a game has 2 sides. 1 attacking and 1 defending. Defending is easy, just camp and shoot. Attacking feels like slogging through concrete for 10 minutes. The missions are timed, you get more time for finishing main objectives, turning a ten-minute uphill brawl into a thirty minute massacre. The game is built for online play, which I do not have. I suppose it might be easier, but honestly, it's just another shooter.

    The SMART system is ok. You can climb things really well, but you have to sacrifice your awareness of surroundings to aim where you want to go. A Heavy moves slowest, cant sprint much, and can't climb higher than his waist. A Light has the highest mobility, it's how the game is meant to be played. The problem is very little health, a pistol can kill you in three shots. And they can only use SMGs and pistols. (very little firepower). The game is about tactics. Send heavys to tank and support, mediums to complete main objectives (they are the bulk of the army b/c they can use most weapons and still have decent mobility), and lights to flank and pepper the enemy, using their skills to aid of harass. Customization is extremely good. There's a lot of ways to make your guy trulys unique. However, there are no girls in the game at all. The only mention of a girl was a faceless founder in the audio logs, no actual character model. Neither side is really likeable, both seem to be basically thugs. The Resistance has more personality in their clothes, but they're extremist thugs. The Security is smarter, and their cause is just. In conclusion, do not go out and buy this game. It is not worth the money. Rent it first, and wait until it's in the bargain bin, or buy it used for less than $20. For a game from a brand new company, its not bad. But games are expensive, and I'm not spending my money for anything less than the best.    … Expand

    Im going to start on a low note, Brink was a game i was going to get day one then i went to gamestop to have my buddies there tell me the game was horrible so i got marvel vs capcom 3 then a couple days later i picked up brink anyway got home put it in hour and a half later i beat the revolution portion of the story and i was not satisfied at all. When I put this game in for the first time I was impressed creating my character, the customizations, the story line, and then onto playing it....I was completely let down. Nothing about this game feels right, its slow and the physics are just not there. Yup, 6 spots automatically go to bots. 3 on both sides. When you get into a game, even though people have said something about an early update, there is a good chance of lag. All that said, once you play it is fun, and you will get your semi-mindless shooter fix. I guess I was just hoping for a little more than mindless shooter.… Expand

The whole point of this game was Multilayer. Everything was focused around it. There are no dedicated servers guys. Often you will go to join an online game and it will be FILLED with bots. No live people. I tried so hard. I wait a week and try again. Still the same garbage. I am trading it in for Hunted. I am scared i even bought that game now because they have the same developers. Bethesda you should have just stuck with Fallout. Bring me dedicated servers and match making and I will pick it up. I would be a great game with these two small thats that belong in a game that you market for online multilayer .… Expand

    Artwork - Really well done, the world is fleshed out and you do feel a certain connected-ness to the environment because the battles do take places in areas that subliminally tell a story. Also, character customizations are really nice and gun customizations make you look more tougher and fit your style of play and character.
    CONS: (unfortunately, here's where I need to say)
    Story - The story starts decently, but since watching videos instead of jumping into the combat while online is pointless, so if you want to play online immediately, you cant waste time learning the little back story which doesn't do much to the game play and doesn't give enough time to make you care about your side.
    Also, when playing several matches, you begin not to care about a bigger story and really just care if your team is going to work together or not.
    Graphics - I said the ARTWORK was nice, not the graphical component. While yes, the areas are designed to look real and liveable, the game is always loading textures even in the middle of combat. It makes a greased-lens effect which does make it a bit distracting since the textures of everything change every couple of seconds. Also, explosions don't look nice.
    Gameplay - While the team work is fun, it is not perfect. Either you get lucky and get a team that plays smart or you dont. If you become the only intelligent person trying to fix the main objective, many people just go off trying to get kills and leave you vulnerable and many times don't support. Also, the AI for allies and enemies, are terrible. While they do give support, they will not go after objectives, leaving the grunt work for you every time and the enemy AI can be unforgiving, seeming to target you more often than not. This is a game meant for TEAMS but if one person doesn't support, it can mess the entire vibe. Also, there is not a emphasis to learn and become skilled with one class. Spies are good but don't really help the team too much, Soldiers can lob Molotov all day but that's about it. Engineers are the strongest class since they can just turtle around building sentry guns at will and not be penalized whenever its destroyed. Medics heal and are important but noone ever wants to be a support, and are always in dire need. It is supposed to be balanced but when you are playing with real people who want glory and battle [a unfortunate side effect thanks to COD] noone cares about the comrade next to you unless there's nothing more important occupying your time at that moment.
    and leveling up? you can level up in 1 to 3 days, depending how much you play, but even then its not a lot. Once you finish a character, its just build another one and the list goes on.

    Overall, if you are not a hardcore shooter fan but a fan of team shooters, this is worth checking your time. However, if you want more serious roles and stronger games in the same respect, you could do a lot better, such as Team Fortress 2. Don't misunderstand me, this is a good game. The lack of content and lack of story-telling will ultimately keep this game from walking the road with great games; despite all of that however, there is something in brink that we as gamers will see again. The ability to see a strategically advantageous location, reach it, and utilize it effectively through SMART. It does require a certain amount of practice to use it well in-game, but once the player has reached that point it becomes a tool that will aid the player immensely. The SMART system, i believe, will be reincarnated into a new game. I only hope that the world is much larger and more diverse than the one it currently occupies.… Expand

    this game is a massive let down for me the minute I played it I was disappointed one of the worst games for me in 2011 and will get a place in my top 50 worst games of all time overall: LAME looked at it upon release looked and sounded lame then bought it yesterday and my gut feeling was right the game is a massive let down getting my money back asap

Hit detection seems to be overall excellent and clean. The movement system really had me smiling from time to time. It was great to run, jump and slide around the map avoiding enemy gunfire on the way to my next objective. There is also a great deal of character and weapon customization at ones disposal. Everything from grips, silencers to under mounted grenade launchers. Mostly standard fare but still cool. You have enough character options to truly craft a unique persona and probably not run into anyone else that looks even remotely like you, if you can determine when you are actually online with other human players which was my main problem. Some may read this and think I am a fool for not being able to determine a bot from the human counterpart, but so be it. I have been a gamer for over 30 years now and overall Brink left me a little confused. IMO it is worth a rent to check it out and see if it may be for you, but I do not think this game is worth the full $60 price tag by any means.… Expand

    I start the campaign and immediately I get all confused about wtf to do. I hold tab.....i see no objectives. i hold tab again. no objectives instead I see a nice scoreboard. On the note of the campaign... it hardly deserves the name. In fact, it doesn't. The "campaign" is nothing more than an offline multiplayer match with bad A.I. team mates and some of the most sophisticated A.I. for your enemies. For example, your team's medics seem to have earned there med-school degrees by watching episodes of E.R. and House. Your enemies medics appear to have not only attended John Hopkins Medical University, but seem to be trained by Navy S.E.A.L.S. as well.
    Enough about the retched excuse for an A.I... the graphics are very much like Borderlands Game of the Year . Which I, personally, loved! Their was some minor graphical glitches and some slowdown when extreme firefights happened, but nothing game breaking.
    Apparently sub-machine guns were one of the only guns developed in this Utopian society, because that's mostly what you're limited to as far as primary AND secondary weapons for a majority of your character's career.
    The "class based objectives" can be terribly difficult to complete at times. And sometimes nigh impossible if you're relying on a fellow team A.I. Alas, it seems that the only weapons and tactics training these guys got was from playing with little green army men as children.
    The online multiplayer is currently very lagged. But I expect this will be cleared up shortly.
    The SMART movement system is definitely stellar, but not "revolutionary" as I was lead to believe. As a parkourist myself, I can tell you that there is very little of that in this game. And only the Light Bodytype is capable of it.
    I would love to give this game three stars, but I cannot give a game a review on what it will or could have become, but only what it is. Overall, this game gets 1/5 stars. Avoid until a year or so later.    … Expand

    From reading some of these other reviews it seems like they never played the game. Brink has a very distinct art style. the ark and the visuals are quite impressive. The sound is impeccable, guns have distinct feel, vibe, and sound. all of the body type (light, normal, Big) have unique play styles and weapons. the lighter the body type, the faster they more, the more places they can reach,From reading some of these other reviews it seems like they never played the game. Brink has a very distinct art style. the ark and the visuals are quite impressive. The sound is impeccable, guns have distinct feel, vibe, and sound. all of the body type (light, normal, Big) have unique play styles and weapons. the lighter the body type, the faster they more, the more places they can reach, and the less health they can have. the "SMART" system works fine and is easy to use but requires skill to run harder routes.(ex: Triple wall jump in container city) I thought the level design was super smart, short cuts can be unlocked with some classes. Completing objectives is fun. the one button method keeps annoying mini games from becoming repetitive and people speed planting bombs. The A.I is almost too good and is not the high point of the game.. The A.I. will often gun you down quicker than you can return fire. Often A.I on your team will over look objectives and A.I medics will walk over you. There is a huge difference when playing with live people. you can tell instantly. other players result in intense firefights over choke points. when playing with friends you will often yell for ammo and medics even if they are sitting in the room with you. the online connection problems are going to be patched and are a temporary problem that should not be used to judge the game. Because of the lag Splash Damage promised free dlc this summer. Overall i think Brink is a great game. if you want to try a unique FPS that forces you to work together to accomplish the impossible, Buy Brink. Viva La Revolution.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I tried not to write this as I think the guys at SplashDamage represent a fine slice of gaming history. I hope that they can produce something new and innovative in this genre, Brink is not it. Brink is a little like Killzone 3 and a little like Team Fortress but does not compare to either. It has placable turrets, a disguise ability and varied objectives like Killzone 3. The look and movement are more like Team Fortress. It has the typical classes. The player movement is great. The graphics are poor and the game play relies heavily on communication which is where it falls down. The AI is incredibly useless as the gameplay requires support between players and you dont get this from the AI. Most multiplayer games are not full with real players. AI make up the remainder and just frustrate you in their uselessness. Added to this is the fact that the players that are on are never on voice chat. This game is probably very enjoyable if played privately with full teams. Ideal for clans. It just breaks down when played between random players who don't communicate.
    Its currently quite laggy as well. There are no addictive aspects to the game, its easy to put down after a short time. The challenge mode is very short and then you're just left with campaign which uses the same few maps and objectives as multiplayer. If a patch could improve the AI and add maps then that would be great as graphics are a small matter when having fun.    … Expand

Fair enough that the glitches can be updated in time and that downloadable content will become available, but character customization is not as vast as it first seems and downloadable content will not change the overall gameplay. Seems to me that Bethesda had a great idea for a new upbeat FPS which could have made one of the best modern shooters we have seen in a few years, but sadly it failed to live up to its expectations.
    The campaign storyline and cinematics seem to be there only as an introduction to each battle and there is no real depth in the story, so if you a single player person i cant see why you would enjoy 'Brink'. But there is still hope for Bethesda's 'BRINK' as i do know a few people who are fans of the game and relate it to an older FPS known as 'Shadowrun' (which was popular for its online gameplay). So if you enjoyed 'Shadowrun' then chances are you are sure to love 'Brink'. I personally am not a 'Shadowrun' fan, but i am open minded and understand it will be a good play for certain gamers.    … Expand

    With it's totally unplayable online mode, even those populated with bots this makes it hard to justify the full price.

    If it would have been $15 and lag free it would have potential since it got some cool ideas but locking down kits for each objective was not fun in Quake Wars and its not fun now.

    Brink is in no way a bad game, however, it is not perfect by any means. I really enjoy playing this game, as it is in-depth with a massively rewarding upgrade and leveling system. However, some graphics have slow loading and the game lags a ton online. If they release a patch for the lag, I will play the game more. As it stands, Brink is good, but not great.

    I was going to write a long involved review about Brink but read any of the sub 7/10 reviews here and they cover pretty much most of what I was going to write. Instead I'm going to point out my biggest annoyance with the game; the bot AI scales with you. Some will say "Great! Imagine the following scenario, you play a map and completely own it, on the next map in the campaign the game will play as hard as you did on the first map but also that little bit harder. Add in problem number two with the AI which is that 99% of the time bots will complete secondary objectives over primary objectives and you're left on your own, in a team game, trying to complete primary objectives against bots that can pretty much kill you with two bullets from rediculous distances down one of the many narrow corridors that populate the maps. The game turns into a trial of teeth grinding frustration. The solution? Create a new character and play less "hard" early on. No thanks, you're getting traded in whilst I can still get some decent money back.… Expand

The whole "blends single player and multiplayer" thing they touted? It's crap. It means bots fill in the slots when you don't play multiplayer. There is an abhorrent lack of story, too. The little clips that play before rounds in the campaign make little to no sense, and even if you bother to go through the dossier to listen to unlocked audioclips, there's nothing compelling about what's going on in the least.

    Where the game shines is in the teamplay aspect. As aiming is really a secondary skill for this title compared to other FPS games, controlling chokepoints and utilizing your class to it's fullest is how you get the most out of playing. There's no kill/death ratio which I absolutely love, because there's no smack-talking from childish clowns on the other team.

    There are some balance issues. For one, the "stealth" class is awful. Soldiers resupply ammo, medics revive people, engineers buff gun damage and armor, and the other class (I honestly forget what it's called because I refuse to play it) provides no tactical use to a team. Other than when they are required to hack spots, they serve no team utility.

    Each gun handles pretty much entirely the same. Almost all of them have similar stats across the boards, anyway. AR guns all handle the exact same with slightly differing clip sizes, all the SMGs handle the same as every other SMG, etc. Handguns are worthless because while the game claims that it ups your melee damage by giving you a knife, melee is 1,000,000% useless.

    The game really, really, really needs some sort of reason to aim. As long as I'm remotely shooting at the enemy, I score hits and spray til people drop. I tend to get a lot more kills since switching to a mini-gun as a result, as ironsighting hinders your ability to drop enemies rather than help. Headshots don't kill immediately either, so no reason to aim at anything other than the midsection of baddies.

    I love the graphics. The "S.M.A.R.T." system to run freely and leap over obstacles is fairly cool. It doesn't feel any different than hitting the action button on obstacles you can climb in other shooters, though, so I don't get what the big deal is. Sound could use a little tweaking as I feel overwhelmed with loudness jumping behind one of the MGs and it's too difficult to tell what guns enemies are using.

    I think there's a potential for franchise development so I'm giving it a 7 rather than a 6, purely for breaking the mold and daring to be different. It's a mediocre game that still offers a lot of replayability at best and an unpolished lackluster title at worst.    … Expand

For those who can't afford fast internet speeds or don't live an area with them available it is not; Brink is a total lag fest for them. The story is cool but really it gives you a reason to shoot people in the face and do the objectives. Basically the team play is fun as hell and im in a clan and when we start playing and get into a groove the game is some of the most fun you will have.     At first it looks good, if you've seen the trailers, watched the E3 gameplay, it looks solid. It looks like a decent shooter, team based game modes look fun but working together to complete objective is necessary to finish the game. At the very least for the first three hours you'll find it fun and easy to complete missions and then you'll reach the final day of either the rebel faction or the security faction and the difficulty will grind up over noticably. I would have given this game an 8 or 9 if it weren't for the horrid graphics in gameplay and the retarded AI (no offence intended). I sat there watching a blur of a man trying to run through a wall when he had the something i needed planting somewhere sometime soon (3 mins to be exact) but no he couldnt move i stood there clearing out enemy after enemy as he didnt move and the timer did, so i turned off my console and i havent touched Brink since (its been about 2 days). I have no problems with the challenge system and i found it fun having to do it to unlock weaponry and not to metion how easy achievments were but the main problrms are the no lobby system and the awfull lag i had to endure even with the new virgin 50mb per sec it sucked basically and that people could join your game.… Expand

    Brink can be awesome and annoying, euphoric and inexplicable, all in the same breath. Unfortunately, fist pumps are followed by fits of controller throwing all too regularly to make this one score much higher.
