This game was rushed. While the game has potential, it lacks stability.

Multi-player is broken. Can't join friends most of the time. Says server is full, but my friends clearly state there are several slots available on both sides. Going from server browsing back to main multi-player menu leaves a ghost of previous text on screen. Have to back all the way out to clear. Server browsing is useless. Doesn't show active games, even if you filter to only show servers with people in them.

Needs a lot of work to save this title from infamy. I better get my money worth from soon-to-come updates or I won't be pre-ordering this franchise again. Too expensive to gamble on a crap game. Thank you, EA,, for putting our money towards a coffin. 3/10

Sorry to say, this is a buggy mess. The server matchmaking is broken, the load times are still awful, and even the Menus bug out regularly. Just spent 30 minutes trying to get into *any* TDM server. No Dice. I wouldn't mind that this is similar to BF3, if they had only fixed the things that were bad about BF3 here.

-A capacity for strategy and teamwork just not seen in other war-themed multiplayer games
I would have given this game a 9 BUT:
What can I say... I loved the Beta because I expected bugs and server issues, but now that I've put a great deal of time into the full release on the xbox 360, and I'm very disappointed! I'll keep the CAPS to a min, but I can't help myself; THE GAME ISN"T FINISHED! DICE have created something with amazing potential but I can hardly run it on my early 2012 Xbox 360. I understand that it is becoming standard practice for developers/publishers to use the end users as quality control but this is ridiculous. Every time I sit down to play within an hour or two the game freezes and on two occasions this freezing has corrupted my saved game files. In addition to freezing my xbox the servers will become unavailable and there are many in game glitches.

Bottom line: After a similar release fiasco with BF3 (major updates having been needed) I would caution everyone not to purchase any EA/DICE product within the first couple months.

The game had potentials, but those where wasted in this mocckery of a game.

The game tries to build up a relationship with you and "Tombstone squad", as well as the threat from the east, but the writers clearly missed a huge oppertunity to make a good story. The characters are boring, the story I couldn't really care about and when you are faced with a a"ultimatium", they clearly missed a Third choise and resulted into this "I couldn't give a damn" attitude I felt after completing the story.

    Now, moving on to Multiplayer:

Multiplayer is broken... Surpricingly broken. It seems rushed and worst: They aliennate the BF3 Veterans from the game!

Featuers such as Sqaud up and Customize solider in the main menu is removed in favour of doing it on Battlelog, which should be a surpulus, NOT A REPLACEMENT!

Haveing issues with joining friends in servers, by reciving messeges such as: No avaible Commander position, "black screen of death", In game "Lag"(even in multiplayer), Start is leaderboard button- confusion(really Dice?), battlepacks is the new reward system, and more

Also, let's start with the grafic bugs too, shall we?

Ugly, delayed pop-ins that even block Iron sight, SPAWN IN WITHOUT WEAPONS, wierd physics, dissapearing bodies when aproaching them to revive them and more to come...

Thought, it did have something that I think was cool, such as Commander mode returned from BF2, some maps wasn't half bad on Domination, Levelution counts for every map on every game mode, You starts with flares and missilies on helicopters and Jet's, Singelplayer have some neat featuers in Multiplayer such as exclusive unlocks and Squad based perks, you get for team effort among squads!

But all these can't bear the weight of the negative experience I have been trhough with this game and therefor I say the game is equal to a 4/10 based on the experience I have been left with...

it is a pitty, I did enjoy Battlefield 3, despite it's problem, but this game feels so rushed out of the studio that I think it was to compete with Call of duty Ghost's releas date on the 5th of November...
If they have taken some time to iron out some of the issues, I would have gladely given it a 6/10, but right now...
    4/10.

regarding the actual gameplay, I am pleased for the most part.

The jets are not so good this time. Lack of controls and smaller boundaries make flying terrible.

Usually more is better and in this case it would have been, but instead of just adding features like the battle packs, EA decided to remove features like editing load outs pre-battle so that you now have to waste gameplay time adjusting gun or vehicle upgrades. Unless of course you make those changes from battle log (a 3rd party website) on a computer.

The tuned graphics are great, but many areas have not been fully refined leaving the game with an unfinished look. In game sounds aren't any more realistic and whatever enjoyment could still be had in the game is ruined by constant crashing and the difficulty one experiences trying to join a game with friends.

The OEM button mapping is ridiculous and the only other option, "veteran" which is intended to mirror BF3 mapping, is just dissimilar enough to confuse BF3 players in those life threatening in game moments. Again this kills any gameplay enjoyment and no other option for button mapping is available.

The single player game play is dreadfully slow and boring. Parts of the single player game seem like a mixing of a FPS and an RPG and definitely not in a good way. For example, after a large action fight, your character then has to walk forever around an aircraft carrier looking for someone. When you find that person, you then need to listen to them babble on without any skip option. Not many play BF for the single player and I can't imagine anyone enjoying this. It feels more like a chore to endure in order to unlock multiplayer weapons.

I would have purchased an xbox1 if BF4 was decent on 360. I'm not going to risk all that money for a game and console that might play the way it does on the 360. Very disappointed. Do not buy for 360 if you haven't already.

This game is a terrible let down from BF3, i know it is still early yet and the game can be patched, but no amount of patching can save BF4 from becoming FAIL of the year. Everyone else has said it here already so i will not repeat, just confirm that the negative reviews are accurate.

Also why does nearly every positive review make reference to a certain other FPS title....coincidence?

How can the critics account for the massive difference between 'Critic Reviews' and 'User Reviews'? Not one negative review from the critics but currently Negative User reviews outnumber the positive ones (Positive 61 Negative 78). The campaign is dreadful and embarrassing for a a company that allegedly was looking to 'excel the single player experience'. The multiplayer is simply appalling in this day and age and EA have done a superb job in selling the gamer a red-herring in its promotional videos as the experience with the fine Battlefield community does not reflect the impressive footage we saw in the aggressive promotion over the past few months.

The maps are completely unbalanced and don't accommodate the modes to a high standard unlike the ones we saw on the brilliant BF3. The destruction may seem impressive at first but this becomes a familiar affair once you know the ins and outs of the individual maps. It soon feels predictable and scripted if you frequently play the uninspiring and characterless settings. The matchmaking and server reliability has to be called into question as too many games suffer from crashes, stutters or general drops in quality. The reliance on Battlelog to instigate games just condenses the menu presentation into a dreary mess why you can't customise in the menu is beyond me. It seems EA are hell-bent on condemning the game to Cloud which means any server issues their end can cause loss of data which I experienced a couple of times in my first few games. I had to trawl through 4 matches before my stats were finally logged and saved along with my unlocks. I lost too much data on a DXP weekend which was infuriating.

The vehicles are extremely naff and on many maps you'll struggle to sift your way through with the cumbersome controls and terrain that renders them useless. Slowdown and texture issues are also more prominent when action is rife and this just makes the overall experience tiresome and dour.

Premium players also have a massive advantage over casuals so EA really want you to cough up the dough to improve your experience. Sadly this game does not warrant any more of your money if you've already purchased it. Those waiting for the next gen should change their pre-order immediately as this game will not improve overnight particularly as the PC version is also a major let-down.

Ultimately, this game is broken and unfinished; even if radical improvements were issued by patch; the overall game itself feels extremely unbalanced and dissatisfying. EA do not deserve your cash and this being the follow-up to Battlefield 3 in the state it is in; is tragically tedious and a continuous disappointment that is rushed and woefully executed.

Instead they decided to nerf tanks by killing proximity scan, annoy veterans by changing the controls for no reason (they include a "veteran" control scheme which restores about 50% of the controls to BF3; still annoying), and run a default conquest mode with an absurdly high number of tickets (it's common to finish a 20 minute game with one team still holding 350 tickets). So, you're already steamrolling the opposition, and then you're empowered further with boosts to humiliate/spawn rape your opponents!? So much for competitive gameplay. Perks should be fixed for both teams or not have any at all. I've always loved the battlefield series and DICE. But now that EA has DICE's balls in a vice, it's finally over. The people that rate this game highly are most certainly COD converts that now like the game because it has become so similar to COD. And what's up with having to scroll from the top down on the browser server? Why can't you scroll from the bottom anymore. By the time you do locate a game that you and your buddy's can load into, it's already filled because it takes forever to scroll through. In addition to not being able to assemble a squad before hand, this game is more than frustrating when trying to play with your friends. It's sad to see such a talented bunch deliver such a huge letdown to thier core players. I'm not even going to go into the technical issues! For most, this alone is a deal breaker. I'm usually willing to put up with that crap because they usually get this things ironed out after about 6 months after numerous patching. But to just leave out a pre-game squad option is just like DICE conceding that they have come closer to COD, and emphasis on team play has been minimized. 2. All of my settings reset(sensitivity, screen adjustment, ect.)
    3. Common frame rate drop outs.
    4. The total under-powered-ness of attack helicopters(scout are not as underpowered as long as you have more than two people repairing you constantly.) As, attack helicopters have a 2 minute spawn time, a 25 second flare recharge time, and are incredibly unstable when hit, forcing you to have gyro stabilizers on. When flying you have to deal with every engineer with a stinger(which is most), every other helicopter, AND the jets. You have to have some serious skill when flying, a good gunner, and be very lucky to get a 1.0+ kd.
    5. The DMRs are worthless. Quite literally, as you will be r**** if you try using them. I've unlocked most of them, and I get beat every time by ARs and SMGs.
    6. The graphics are seriously downgraded from BF3.
    7. Destructibility applies to a very limited amount of buildings.
    8. There's a map which will butt f*** you called Dawn Breaker unless you have your brightness all the way up and a flashlight on your gun.
    9. You can't change your contrast settings, so your colors will be f***** up if you want to actually see something.

Since I consider this game a demo for the Next Gen version I will keep it short and sweet.

    Pros

Solid Campaign. A lot of action and kept me interested. I don't usually play campaign so what I think is good may not be the same as campaign veterans.
    Improved Hit Detection
    Improved Hip Fire
Game seems to play much smoother than BF3
    Nice Maps
    Frostbite 3 and new destruction
    More modes, added Domination

    Cons

Game freezes on Campaign and Multiplayer
Campaign AI doesn't always seem to be aware of what's going on
You are the only person that can die in Campaign, squad member can't get show
Campaign is scripted, I would like to see more dynamic outcomes based on the decisions you make
Not everything is destructible, would like to be able to destroy any and everything on site.

Overall I think Battlefield is a great series and BF4 continues with that tradition. I look forward to see the best BF4 has to offer when I get my PS4 version.

I should have known this was a cash grab as soon as EA started talking about Battlefield 5 before this one released. I hope DICE gets the proper time to make a sequel, that is if DICE is even the same company that created new experiences(Mirrors Edge). I have no doubts EA will ruin that sequel as well. Expand

Graphics: Beauty unparalleled as of yet in a shooter, only occasionally marred by muddied textures here and there.

    Sound: Only in Battlefield.

Playability: Some controls have been simplified a little bit, but it remains largely similar to those of Battlefield 3 and classic Battlefield games, with a few new additions to the mix. It might be hard to pilot some vehicles at first, but you'll get the hang of it.

Entertainment: You'll certainly be spending your hours playing the addictive and impressive multiplayer component, and not the standalone single player one.

    Replay Value: Moderately High.

The ability to destroy buildings is pleasing and the weapons are okay. Most impressive is the sound track which really increases the atmosphere with hard shelled weapon fire noises that echo around you. The graphics are okay but tend to go from very impressive to PS2 level depending on the map you are playing. The fighting is not as frantic as COD in terms of close proximity combat but being staged in a much wider world can be just as tense. I would say that notching up a good score for yourself is much more difficult in BF than it is in any of the COD titles. So in that respect I'm persuaded that BF is the harder challenge.

What really sucks about this title though........is it's maker.....EA. Electronic Arts is either lazy, always doing things on the cheap or is so arrogant that it just doesn't care about its customers. The EA servers are clearly not up to the task and in any 2 hour gaming period, you might find yourself being kicked off the server on 4 or more occasions because, 'the server has lost the connection.' This is simply not good enough and this is one area where COD completely outshines BF. Every time you get kicked off you lose all of the points you have just earned throughout the current game which means you might take 30-40% longer than you really deserve to rank-up and get better weapons and kit. That adds up to a huge amount of wasted time and a whole heap of frustration.

Another issue is the frequency in which the game freezes. I've played 5 different modes of multiplayer so far and ALL of them have frozen at one stage or another usually when loading up the map at the start. Poor poor poor!

You have a choice (most of the time) about where you re-spawn in BF. A nice touch you might think, but also a very frustrating one. All too often all of the available spawn options are all fated and result in just one thing when you are dropped on the map -INSTANT DEATH because the game drops you right in the middle of a fire-fight even if you have watched the small display screen to make sure all is clear before you spawn.

The other big issue here is that if you only have a 4GB machine, BF4 will not run on your Xbox360. Check the small print on the back of the game box. Regardless of how much of the 4GB you have free, because none of that 4GB is classed as a hard drive you won't be able to load the game. You need a proper hard-drive to run this game and it needs at least 2GB of free space to download base material.

I actually found the single player pretty enjoyable compared to some reviewers. There are some good tense battles and it's graphically better than multiplayer. It has grit but sadly the foul-mouthed language leaves a lot to be desired. Perhaps if you're an adolescent you might think the swearing is cool, but for anyone with an ounce of maturity you'll realise that whilst swearing is a part of every day life in the forces, it doesn't mean you want all the vulgar profanities invading your living room every time you play. If you're listening EA it adds absolutely nothing to the game at all.

I'm left so disappointed by this game, it should be brilliant, it wants to be brilliant, but in it's current state it's simply not reliable enough or sufficiently well supported by its own maker EA to be any good at all. Very poor and very frustrating. EA should be ashamed of themselves for the lack of care and respect they show towards the very people who keep them all in gainful employment.

Got into BF during Modern Combat 2. Loved the Bad Companies and 3 was pretty solid. This, however, is a terrible mess. I won't go into the kits and weapons as Dice will probably balance things better in the future. Lets go through the details.

1: User Interface: Pure The font is small, confusing, and has a woeful layout. Its a bloody chore to spawn in the correct place. Its even more difficult to switch your kit around quickly.

2: Maps: This might be the worst set of maps in any BF game period. Where is the creativity? Its like playing Mass Effect. Large open area followed by a "battle area" with a few pieces of cover thrown around randomly. Dice also is clearly proud of their water physics as they stuck water in nearly every map. Sadly it is very buggy and you will commonly get stuck under objects when you swim. I now treat water like I'm playing GTA 3.

3: Graphics: This one is more down to taste. It just happens I don't enjoy this style. The game is grayer and rougher. Its probably more realistic, but its difficult to see. A sniper/camper's paradise.

4: Game Modes: The addition of new game types is nice, but the rules need polishing on things like Obliteration. Letting the bomb get into a helicopter kinda ruins the point. Rush has been whittled down to small scale warfare. I always enjoyed Rush, but when every game is the same type of map (mainly infantry with one or two vehicles), it quickly loses its charm. Don't expect the variety of BF3 of following a Caspian Border up with a Grand Bazaar.

5: Stability: Prepare to restart your Xbox often. Crashes on nearly half the maps make this game an unpleasant experience.

It seems as if they had fixed nothing from the beta release. Although they did fix a few problems from the predecessors, from my perspective, they contrived more mistakes than corrections. Gameplay is sub-par at best. This is not a Battelfield title in any sense of the word. Gun damage models are horribly skewed and not realistic. Animations are off and texture rendering is the poorest I've seen on any title in years. Vehicles are a joke and so are the classes. It has blended into a "what class looks cool" instead of what class is actually effective in their role. Unlocks are also a joke, and is apparent with their "packs" that you can purchase with real money to get an advantage. Pay to win is a terrible business model, but EA loves it. Just try one of their Android games on Google Play.

While playing single-player, I encountered many bugs and glitches that would not allow me to continue the mission, meaning I would have to shut my Xbox off, turn it on again, and restart the mission. Furthermore, the single-player is not as exciting as it's Battlefield 3 counterpart. To continue, upon playing multiplayer for the first time, I noticed they had changed something, you are not limited to certain guns depending on what team you are on. In Battlefield 3, whether you were an Iraqi or American soldier, lets say you use an assault rifle, if you are Iraqi you use an AK-47, if you are American, you use an M4A1 or M16A4, and as you use assault rifles you unlock more and more. The good thing about this change is that you can now stick to one weapon and upgrade it much easier, instead of having to change guns every game. Continuing on, some people on this website obviously have not played Battlefield at all. The helicopter, jet, boat, car, etc. controls are all the same as Battlefield 3, Battlefield 2, etc., they are just not skilled enough to use them. The multiplayer does have some minor bugs, and the loading screens may freeze sometimes, but multiplayer takes pure skill.     Single player;

Playing single player on Battlefield is what you would expect. It's short and sweet. The campaign takes less than 10 hours to complete if you know what your doing. The story is much like a Hollywood action movie rather than a military simulation. That isn't a bad thing specially with today's youth who want instant gratification (Although I would prefer more realism).

The story is much like a Hollywood action movie rather than a military simulation. That isn't a bad thing specially with today's youth who want instant gratification (Although I would prefer more realism). There are big explosions, plot twists, and many moments that leave you saying 'wow, I can't believe that just happened.' There are a few flaws with single player. More than a few times I found myself being pinned down by gunfire only to have enemies spawn right beside me out of thin air and kill me. This happened way more than it should. Also on several occasions the mission progress seemed to get stuck and I could not go any further unless I restarted from a check point. I managed to make it through the campaign without these flaws detracting from my overall experience and knowing Dice/EA they should have this patched in no time.

    Multiplayer;

Now this is the meat and potatoes of a Battlefield game. The sounds of the game are amazing specially on a nice pair of headphones. The gameplay remains similar to BF3 while also feeling more fluid and natural. The maps are a bit on the smaller side like BF3 but feel much larger and detailed a definite step up from last iteration. The unlocks and leveling move at a nice pace without being too easy and vehicles are just as fun as you might think they would be. The only flaws I found so far with MP is sometimes the textures won't load on my gun right away making it impossible to look down the sights and sometimes the bipod on some guns wont deploy instantly, also a problem in BF3.

I think a few patches will do this game good but as it stands it is an easy 4/5 for any Battlefield fan or a shooter fan in general. If the games looks and plays this good on current gen I CAN'T WAIT to see it live on next gen.

Point is, I like COD, and I wanted to like this game. I somewhat enjoyed BF3's campaign, though for me, it doesnt compare to COD in either graphics or gameplay, too much filler.
But I literally had to force myself to finish this campaign, it was dreadful. No heart, no storyline of any compelling narrative and way too much filler between missions.
Finally finished it on the second pass and it's unfortunately good to be done with it. Last word for true campaigners: how can a game, where the mp is the star i'll give you that, get such a high rating when these said high ratings are allowing for the fact the campaign is dreadful?

The destructive environments are also a nice touch to a shooter, being able to blow away the enemies cover and watch them scramble to find more. However this is all that I can say is good about this game. I was mislead to believe there was an open world just waiting to be blown to bits from gunfire, vehicles, explosions and more. Instead I got linear paths of enemies in which you just shoot and proceed to the next area. Story is very predictable and called everything that was about to happen. No creativity there. Also can't seem to make up their mind when briefing me on the current objective. So very confusing at times too. Overall, it's just go to an area, shoot enemies, then just keep repeating those two things. So it gets very boring, very fast. Those that play offline, I highly recommend getting something better than this. Expand

However, on the Xbox 360 there are huge problems with the game. First of all, on the Xbox 360 player count is limited to 24, while on next gen and PC you can play the same maps but with 64 players. This means a lot of the larger maps can become very boring. Also in conquest this leads to situations where you spend a large amount of time capturing undefended points, then once you leave that point the other team just recaptures it.

The biggest issue though for the Xbox 360 is the constant crashes and loss of connections. Sometimes you can play for a few hours without any problems. However, other days every 5-15 min your Xbox will either freeze or you will lose connection to EA. Either way you won't get any XP from the game you were playing and you will have to restart your Xbox. In my experience nearly 50% of my gaming sessions end in frustration because of all the crashes. Dice has acknowledged the crashes are a problem, but they have been looking into it since October and it still broken in January.

Buy this game for a different system.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Like the last game, this one did nothing but insult me, both Single-Player and Multi-Player. I should not that I will be taking about the Single-player a lot in this review, but this I will also be referring to the terrible Multi-player of this game.

When I was informed that the Russians will not be the primary enemy of this campaign, I though "Well at least I will not have to shoot the Russians for once, because why should I? I like Russians and Battlefield gives me poor reasons for fighting them!" But then I was informed that the primary enemy of this game will be the Chinese, that have allied with the Russians to bring down the US and dominate the globe, then I thought "...EA. DICE. You are both taking the piss..."

The campaign involved me following linear based shooting with a poorly written story. The characters of this game were quite unlikable, especially that female character Hannah, who at one point of the game double crossed me, and when me and my squad met her again, she gave the poorest excuse that she did it for saving someone who was important for stopping the war (Which she didn't explain how handing me to the enemy was suppose to help), and everyone forgave her afterwards. I was thinking "HOW DID THAT EXCUSE BUY YOU IDIOTS!?!?!"

As for the Multi-player, it was poorly (Yes, that will be the key word for this entire game, Thank you very much!) developed and managed, because not only did I suffer from the usual verbal abuse from the idiots on microphones, not understand that the concept was that shouting at other players is not going to fix the game and their social skills, but I also faced technical issues.
I attempted to capture a point but it instantly reverted back to enemy control as it fully charged, it would not allow me to fire particular weapons, and enemies could shoot me after I re-spawned in front of them (By the way, I chose my base and I spawned in a enemy squad, so don't think I simply spawned at a point when the enemy was capturing it).

In the end, it was no different from Call of Duty. I know I don't like using Call of Duty in reviews, but I find it hypocritical of people who continuously blurt out that Call of Duty and Battlefield are nothing alike, when it they are exactly alike. Like Call of Duty: Ghost, this game is a complete miss and doesn't even deserve my spit.

I can only speak for the XBox360 experience and about 15h of playtime. I'm a huge fan of this series but I'm also sad to say that this is the one that has to be buried. The list of flaws and bugs is endless:

    - XBox freezes every two games
    - two maps in some game modes not playable at all due to freezes
    - Hit detection failures to the point where you can empty a magazine on an enemy 10m away without hits
    - Dumbed down gameplay compared to BF3
    - Weapons are pretty much all the same
    - Visibility of enemies is questionable (to the point where a smart position makes you nearly invisible)

Thats only the tip of the iceberg. EA with great help of the DICE is trying to make the Battlefield experience more comparable to the Call of Duty franchise. Which is exactly why veterans of the series will hate BF4. Great job and tip to the hat to EA and DICE.

I'll hand this one 1 point for the fact that their marketing actually convinced me to spend my money on this one.

The multiplayer is the same sort of thing we saw in BF3, just amplified and tweaked a bit more. COD: Ghosts doesn't get any points for "if it ain't broke don't fix it", and this won't either. Is it fun? Yes. Will it last you more than a year till the next installment? Maybe. But why play this when you can just go back and do slightly less in the last game and not have to pay anything?

Honestly, COD and BF both suffer from the "give it a new paint job, add a couple cool gimmicks, and say its innovative and new" business model, except Battlefield has only just started to get into the habit of it. This is still the BF3 engine (figuratively speaking, I know the game runs on a newer version of Frostbite) and frame, with some new paint and a few aesthetic designs that are neat... and that to me is not worth $60 of my money.

I hope and pray EA and DICE don't screw themselves over doing the same thing Infinity Ward and Treyarch have become infamous for.

Now, on to my own opinion. I'm not going to restate what others have, their posts are there to look at freely, I'll state what I've not yet read from other reviews. First off, and mostly, there is a HUGE bug that should be immediately looked into for fixing, which is now and then your game can freeze DURING THE SAVING PROCESS. This results in corrupt memory and loss of any saved games, however your online stats won't be effected. Another thing I'd like to add is the VERY few amount of maps. Thought they are quite big, there aren't many of them. Another is the complete lack of variation of game modes. There should be more things like a convoy capture, dogfights, something that strays away from the usual game modes (which from reading others reviews tells me there isn't any more additions from the previous battlefield)

With that, I'd like to state I want to see a major improvement in the next update. Or I will surely trade this in for Call of Duty: Ghost, which on the back of the BF$ case it states that IGN said "FROSTBITE 3 Engine and BATTLEFIELD 4 put Call of Duty: Ghosts to shame." I haven't played CoD: Ghost and I can confidently say this is a false statement.

If you want my advice, do not buy this game until the price has dropped considerably. It is not worth 60 dollars.

Really DICE and EA why make a FPS shooter based on tactics and then not include a convenient system for playing with your friends. And before you guys say, "You can play with your friends, just join them" here is my knock on that. The rooms get full quickly, you are not guaranteed to be on the same team, AND one of us always lags out because the game crashes. SO after spending 20 minutes trying to get into the same room, one of our games crash and then we can't play together. Rinse and repeat till you log off.

Now onto the gameplay. People do not play the objective, they just sit on roofs hiding with sniper rifles. Maybe it's just me but bullet registration in this game is terrible. I feel like I shot someone 10 times and only 2 of those bullets register. Game is frustrating, avoid it like plague until they fix all of their issues. You can clearly tell this game was rushed to compete with CoD on the market.

Battlefield 4 on the other hand, is simply a showcase of what a developer can do wrong. Yes, everybody has already explained how awfully glitchy it is, and how matchmaking is complete **** I however was more perturbed about the release day DLC, and the shameless Micro Transactions, which are frequently advertised in menus in the game.

You can however with one low payment of 50 freaking bucks, get all of the DLC for free, giving you access to a large part of the game you have already payed hard earned cash for. All of the new game-types that I've seen require DLC, and on top of that, many vehicles are badly under-powered until you level them up, which on things like helicopters, is very difficult. The only work around for this is to either, murder your stats by rushing the Heli and attempting to get a kill with the chain-gun, or you can buy the Vehicle pack and unlock everything.

I understand that the Jets and Helicopters, were quite OP in BF3, but in this game they feel like they were just thrown in there because it's Battlefield. I have about 70 hours recorded online in this game, and I have never once been killed by a Jet. Even when I'm in a Jet myself! On the Bomber Jets, switching to your secondary weapon, which is your primary source of damage, puts you into this unhinged under the plane view, that completely fu*** up your perspective, and makes it near impossible to do anything. I understand that they did this to provide a sense of realism, but it feels incredibly broken.

The helicopters are quite a bit more difficult to fly as well. It's nearly impossible to level your reticle on something and shoot it, as you are always trying to overcompensate your direction. So you just end up doing fly-by carpet bombings, and hoping to kill something. I was quite good with the Helis in BF3, and have a pretty good kill count with them. In this game, while they control very similarly, they are constantly in a state of horizontal movement.

Something else that was a pain, but somewhat forgivable, was the explosion hitboxes. While Grenades, and their launchers are in good working order. Any sort of rocket propelled, or shelled rounds, are almost guaranteed to require a second hit on enemy players. I have been hit nearly directly with 120mm tank rounds and survived, countless times. The same applies to rocket launchers, and Heli rockets. It might seem like a bit of a nitpick, but it would really lend to the games immersion, if a gigantic explosion actually killed you.

The game is unfinished and full of bugs. A.I. problems, problems with the new "levolution" system which isn't present all that much on single player except from one or two levels. Nowhere near as destructible environments as Red Faction games or even the two Bad Company games.

The story is standard forgetable, but what makes it unbearable is the writing. The mute character is a technique that is obliterated and causes many troubles... for example..
When Recker (btw how many times is this name heard in the game...????)
escapes from prison with Dima and meets Irish, the latter says this line:
"I'm Irish, you're Recker..." WHAT THE FUDGE???
I was trying to explain this, but finally after 3 playthroughs it hit me that the only expainable situation is that Irish is a bit on the slow side... The also irrational thing he has with Hannah is only measured by the sudden turnaround before the final level.
Hannah: I too have lost things
Irish: Oh, that's ok. Now I like you, even if I hated you irrationally for the most part of the game...

Only a 5 year old could write this stuff.

Beside the weak story and the glitchy gameplay, there is some fun to be had. The gunplay is good, the weapon variety is nice and the gameplay is quite different to the other shooters and went kinda to Crysis style. More open. If it worked it could have been something, but now, if you take a path you are not supposed to, you die in a matter of seconds and I don't care what the reviewers have seen. I played through the game 3 times and the amount of freedom is only theoretical.

All in all, I would like to see the game in its next gen form (or on a PC) to appreciate at least the graphx.
Good for an afternoon, but I liked BF3 more. It was sturdier.

You can easily breeze through the campaign in its quick 7 missions to unlock a few knives and weapons for use in multiplayer. It's nothing worth remembering but you should be expecting that from Battlefield. Now the core aspect of Battlefield, aside from the issues i mentioned above. New weapons, maps, vehicles and the introduction of "Levolution". Basically these are, more or less, scripted events that happen sometime during your match that are pretty to watch but you may bore of them eventually. Most maps are just something big falling down but others feature a hurricane arrival and,my favorite, a map in which the streets will over time flood until the entire ground is buried under water and you are forced to fight on rooftops and other elevated areas. Overall the fun factor in this game is extremely high but you may have trouble playing at times when your "perfect game" gets ruined by a random client crash. Use caution when purchasing this game at the moment but you would definitely be missing out if you do not get this sometime in the future. Expand

Having clocked up many hours on BF3 I was looking forward to this game and was very disappointed with it. DiCe seem to have 'Cod-ified' it in some ways, which I don't want, I want Battlefield. The multiplayer was just 'unplayable'; now whether that was bad net code/lag compensation or whatever you want to call it, the mp gameplay was dire. Ok, game is really a buggy, crashing, terrible mess at the moment. I hope dice gets it turned around but I'm losing hope. Between losing multiplayer progress and having 1 out of every 2 games freeze, the game is basically unplayable. So many issues need to be ironed out. I decided no cod this year and its turning out to be no military FPS this year. When is Destiny being released?

    Lame of the year.
Too bad, nothing new, only a BF3 refresh.
    Good lazy Job from dice/ea.

Go the same way as call of duty and die
    RIP Battlefield series

Battlefield 4's multiplayer is pure fun. However, there are an extreme amount of bugs and multiplayer problems that prevent this game from being a fantastic game.

However, this game has many problems, excluding the mediocre single player mode. The game is partially broken and unstable. Hopefully, EA can fix these problems soon, as they did with BF3.
This is a good game, and even if you are going next-gen, I'd suggest getting it.

A horribly, horribly compromised iteration of the franchise. Developing this for the 64-player next gen crowd it's left huge empty landscapes on the current gen maps. Couldn't be more disappointed. Have retreated back to BF3

Spoiler alert. This game is garbage. The servers are crap. Multiplayer sucks dick. You constantly die as soon as you spawn. You can't move without someone constantly spawning on top of you. It takes forever to reload your piece of gun. It takes forever to respawn. It's BF3 rehashed just worse this time around. The game itself is entertaining, Levolution; destroying the whole map and sinking, but the whole of that was just the only thing that a mini game should have. But the problem is the main game, a FPS can't be finished without a campaign, but although good. That's all i want to say. Expand

I was a bigtime fan of BFBC1 & 2 and 1949. Never played bf3... but Battlefield 4 is horrible I just spent 50$ on it to realise it's no longer a battlefield game as much as it is a call of duty type shooter.

    2. The screen tearing is too much, almost every time you lay on the floor on a mountain, you cannot snipe.

    3. The game is too fast pace now, it feels like a COD shooter

    4. The graphics are so bad you can't differentiate anything long distance wether its an enemy vs a plank vs a rock... horribly fustrating

    5. Any screen less than a 45inch, you will be unable to see anything properly(again the graphics are that bad).

    6. The graphical FPS, lag is unnacceptable for a FPS game. You will find yourself dying bc of this.

    7. THe maps are a AWFUL. Remember Oasis? Forget it, now it's all about walking hallways and buildings, etc

I will never buy another BF after this. Im done.

We knew the BF4 solo campaign was going to suck. What really sucks is the fact that they keep putting energy in developing it... Well anyway, I look forward for pleying this new exploding delight

Great game. Only reason it doesn't get a 10 is omission of a squad join system, and some freezing issues. I've played 20 hours on xbox 360 and it's locked up 4 times. Not great, but over 20 hours of play not a big deal. GET THIS GAME. The various game modes are fantastic, and TDM is waaaay better then COD TDM.

Battlefield 3 was pretty close to perfection, but this manages to top it. The destructible environments and the changing weather are all really impressive. It chugs in a few spots, but that's apparently because the game is really pushing the current system to its limits. I'm sure it will run much smoother and look even better on Xbox One. Solid single player and a mind-blowing multi-player.

While the campaign is a damn sight better than Battlefield 3's, it still falls a little flat in spots. [Issue#105, p.82]

For all of its innovative bonuses however, Battlefield 4 on Xbox 360 is beginning to show signs of age. It can be applauded for great water physics and being able to handle the frame rate of a constantly dynamic environment rather well in both single and multiplayer. However, the character models and maps are definitely looking rather blocky and dated, even at 1080p.

Battlefiled 4 lacks in the single-player campaign with a dull and forgettable story, while its still remains a very strong experience in its multiplayer side. Unfortunately it gets dragged down by several bugs capable of impacting the entire experience with hangs, savegame corruption and hitbox problems that we hope will be quickly be fixed.
