I played this game several years after Batman: Arkham Horror. The latter was a good game with a few things I really didn't like. In this sequel, I have every little part I didn't like plus a heap more while at the same time what was good has gone.

Possibly the best superhero game ever made. Everything the original Arkham does right, this does more of and then some. The story is better than ever and exploring a whole city and some of it's underground really expands on what this style of game can do.

Fun and engaging Batman game. Has the perfect mood and stalking around gotham fighting thugs and investigating supervillains is super fun. Drags towards the end and the story is forgettable, but gameplay and atmosphere is the star

A masterpiece that offers everything a game should.
I wasn't even into Batman and I still loved every second of plating the game.
Both combat and stealth are fun. The story is engaging and nail-biting.
OST is god-tier especially the main theme.
    What else would you want?

Following up on one of the best action games in recent memory, Batman: Arkham City manages to up the ante in almost every way you can imagine.

While it loses some of the focused and contained psychological elements of Arkham Asylum, this sequel makes up for the loss in sheer scale and ambition in its story, side missions and extra DLC content. Not only did Rocksteady create a bolder and more ambitious game story, but they also created more memorable villain boss fights, multiply Riddler challenges by 5x, and just smash so much more content and things to do in the game.

I loved the Catwoman and Robin DLC challenges and options in-game as well as the introduction of new skins to play with and of course the much larger map Batman has to fly across. Also important is the slightly refined combat mechanics from Arkham Asylum. One of the very few complaints I had with Asylum was its occasional combat mechanic issues and clunkiness that made it less fluid than hoped for. All those issues were fixed in the sequel.

If you're a fan of Batman games, this might be the definitive Batman game out there (still need to play Arkham Knight). The story, challenges, gadgets, content, and overall experience make this simply one of the best games I've ever played.

The combat is more repetitive than the first game. The enemy variety seriously lacks to the point that the only ways the devs can make the game harder towards the end of the game is by throwing more of the same at you, which really just becomes a battle of maintaining a good health bar. The back tracking is somehow worse in this game and even less justifiable. There is a whole city this time, not just an asylum and somehow you are still made to repeat areas over and over in the main story.

    Spoilers here
The story is great aside from Talia. In no way is she developed or interesting enough for me to give a rip that Joker kills her in the end. i don't know why the short amount of time in the third act of the game appears to be enough development for her to the devs, but it wasn't. It wasn't emotionally impactful at all.

Edit: interestingly enough Arkham Knight made me dislike this game even more. If you subbed in Jason Todd for Talia the set up for Knight would have been so much better and paid off in a really great way. What a missed opportunity.

Other than those complaints the story is great, the combat feels good, Joker is an amazing villain, and there is plenty of side content to go around. This is an amazing game with some frustrating problems.

The vast array of gadgets is fun and sometimes challenging to use. There are even some improvements, like more gadgets unlocked from the start, and gaining new skills has been made easier. The story is better overall than in the first one. There are a few negatives, however. While I did get lost a few times in the original, I got lost way to many times to be considered passable while playing this game. This style of game, in my opinion, should have stayed with the smaller, more enclosed map. I also feel like the story gets cut off way too soon. After the first boss fight with Ra's A Ghul, i didn't expect to see him again, until it's revealed that he's been working with Strange all along. After that, I was fully expecting another boss fight, perhaps after the death of the Joker. The first game ended just at the right point, so I dont know what happened here. Anyway, its a great game overall, just slightly worse than its predecessor. Expand

I love why other cast members to Nolan North as the Penguin, Troy Baker as Two-Face and Tara Strong as Harley Quinn they are all so great. But the bosses are where it’s at it greatly improved upon Arkham Asylum, and now the bosses are big and amazing Solomon Grundy and Mr Freeze are my favorites. The graphics are great and so is the music it’s so atmospheric and gameplay is great as well, punching and flipping around sound amazing but nothing compares to just gliding around Arkham City. - You get a chance to work in the same interests as some villains, which is a nice twist compared to Arkham Asylum.

    - Gadgets are unique and their applications are very cool. Every playable characters have their own unique upgrades also.

    - Conversations throughout Arkham City between the inmates give more information about the plot as it is updated through Batman's actions.

    - The cries of the political prisoners are gruelling enough to make you want to save them.

    - Combat has improved from Arkham Asylum. There are more variety of skills you can learn to handle enemies with new equipment.

    - Many villains are featured. In the main quest, without DLCs, most only appear for a short duration. With DLCs, they will appear again for the side quests.

Batman: Arkham City is bigger and better version of the Arkham Asylum improving on everthing in the previous game with an open world, the best story of the series and more combat options to a already great combat system. For everyone who loved the first game or Batman fans out there, you'll love this.

Everything that Arkham Asylum amazed with, this game perfects. In my Top Five of All Time, Arkham City takes the open-world aspect and multiplies it by five. Endlessly impressive and entertaining, City prides itself on it's large map, unpredictable story, and perfect gameplay. Customization is limited but with a character you don't want to alter, the lack of options is in no way a detraction. You still get new weapons, abilities, and tech to ease combat and make the game more fun. You truly feel like a superhero when playing this game which makes the game fairly easy to beat, but it's even easier to spend more time than necessary beating the story. The gameplay is more fluid than any other game I've played even after nearly 7 more years of game releases. I tried to beat everything in this game, extras and all; it's difficult. There are puzzles, challenges, and feats to overcome which all prove to be challenging. Without a doubt, what all this game offers is much more than 95% of other games you could spend your time with. Arkham City is well worth every second. Expand

All the game is a masterpiece, that deserves the glory and attention. A great game with a great development team behind. You will need all you intellect to make strategies for this game.
The only thing that i found "bad" on this game is that maybe, just maybe, it will be kind of frustrating, each death comes with a little anger made by the current villain; this makes you want to play more but if you die many times in a row well... could make you hate the game. And also it has many collectibles, so many, maybe if there were a few less collectibles, the game will make the trophy hunters come to it to give some fight.

Even though they have pretty much have the same combat system this game seems to do it the most justice though. Then we get to Batman, the man the game is based on. He is done perfectly from the voice of the fantastic Kevin Conroy who never misses a beat. He is wonderful, he's menacing and threatening when he needs the great thing about Conroy. Is that he doesn't sound like he wants to break everybody's bones 24/7 he just did a fantastic job all around. The Riddler's challenges are very plentiful and although they do get pretty annoying sometimes I still liked them. I always loved it when I solved one that was hard to me and feeling a sense of accomplishment. The side missions are very well done as well, from the mission where you are tracking down the sniper to hunting down the identity thief.

The Dark Knight returns to our disc trays for Rocksteady’s, Arkham City, and it’s one of this year’s most anticipated video games.

Following on from Arkham Asylum, a title that was a massive step-up from previous superhero based gaming, in terms of controls, movement, flow and story-line. It introduced a fresh & unique combat system that drew players into the action with gripping combo’s and counters, and had a more detective-like feel than most beat ’em ups.

Arkham CityArkham Asylum ended with a bang, watching The Joker mutate (through use of “titan”), to an epic final boss fight, and Arkham City picks up not too far along the timeline.

Bruce Wayne is captured by Tyger Forces under orders of Arkham Cities head of operations Dr. Hugo Strange, and it doesn’t take long for Mr. Wayne to suit up and reign justice from the shadows. The new story-line follows Strange, The Joker, and other masters of the criminal underworld’s quest to bring down the bat from the sky.

Sideline missions are a great use of the ‘open world’ factor, fellow super villains (including The Penguin, Mr Freeze and Bane) are pitted against Batman and his small entourage. These sub-plots allow for deeper character involvement, screen time and dialogue compared to that of its predecessor.

Arkham City has got all new modifications, tweaks and improvements, giving a much understood “Bigger, Better, Bolder” feeling to the game. Vastly noticeable is the open world aspect of the city (not seen hugely on Arkham Asylum), freeing players to soar from amazing heights, zip-line across the roof-tops and really take in the environment. Districts and relative locations such as Penguins Iceberg Lounge, and memory saddened Monument Theatre (where Bruce’ parents were killed) also reside within in its walls.

The graphics are better and seem more realistic in movement and appearance while still retaining that all important comic book look and feel.

Detective view is still available and crisper than ever, character representation and costume are thoroughly brought forward ( although Mr Freeze’s suit does look a bit “off”). Good to is the dialogue, gripping enough to keep you from skipping straight to the action.

New Gadgets are available through level-ups and have been expanded, giving the Utility Belt a diverse use in all situations. All utilities from Arkham Asylum are available from the beginning, so you can focus on getting those all-new awesome gadgets. Together with an updated combo system, predator moves, and bat-suit upgrades it pulls you even deeper behind the mask.

DLC (downloadable content) opportunities are available with Arkham City, with additional downloadable characters Catwoman and boy-wonder sidekick Robin. Along with campaign add-ons, creating ever more game-play.

Arkham City is an amazing game and will keep a lot of gamers wanting more. A third installment is hinted at within the story, and the though of being able to fly around the whole of Gotham City next time will have fans drooling in anticipation. Developers Rocksteady deserve credit for the hard work put in, awesome story line, great use of characters and… just go buy it, god damn it!

(Do note that I do not own the PC version of this game, but rather the xbox 360 version. I decided to write this review anyway considering the few differences there are between the versions are minute, and also this is simply one of the best games I have ever played.)

Batman: Arkham City is a great game in every sense of the word. The game is immersive, and pulls you in for hours on end. The atmosphere is spot-on to the lore, and gives a vibe reminiscent of comics such as “The Long Halloween” “Hush” or “The Black Mirror”. The story is well done as well, with talented voice actors giving respectable portrayals of the Caped Crusader’s greatest allies and enemies. The huge map is realized with staggering attention to detail, and is even more breathtaking, I assume, on the PC version. Everything you loved about Arkham Asylum remains intact, the Empowering combat, the Adrenaline pumping stealth sections, the multitude of fantastic Villains who eagerly await their next “Bat-Beating”. However nearly every aspect of the game is significantly improved over AA. There are considerably more enemy types in combat, providing for much more varied and interesting combat sections. You are also given roughly twice the gadgets given in the first game, and everything feels much more open. Going back and playing Asylum after getting used to the freedom provided in City, makes you truly appreciate the changes RockSteady made. The city itself is also significantly larger, 5 times bigger in fact, and you are able to traverse it much faster and with greater precision. The increase in size also allows for TONS of interesting and unique side missions, usually involving a villain not featured in the main story. Which brings me to my next point, the story. The story starts off incredibly, and keeps the momentum going for the first few hours. However, once your map starts to get flooded with side missions and collectibles, the game becomes somewhat cramped, and the middle of the story loses some focus. However, it is wrapped up in a fantastic 3rd act that leaves the ending open, and my jaw on the floor. As far as replayability, there is a LOT of stuff to do. After finishing the main story, you still have to complete a more than a dozen lengthy side missions, 30 challenge maps, 12 different challenge campaigns where you have to complete specific challenge maps in a specific order with specific buffs and debuffs making each fight memorable. Add to that the playable catwoman story missions, the newgame+ mode in which you play through the story and side missions again, with much more difficulty, and the 440 riddler challenges that will test both your skill at the game, and at times your intellect. All of this must be completed in order to 100% arkham city. (Which I am very proud that I did) Even with its minor flaws, Batman Arkham City stands tall, as what is in my opinion, the greatest game of all time.
