Xenoblade Chronicles is simply put as one of the best JRPGs to ever grace the planet. It might seem held back by the Wii's limited hardware, but it truly succeeds at creating an environment and cast of characters that push you onward, not to mention the superb score and overarching storyline. There is little flaw to be found in Takahashi's best work.

This is possibly and currently my favorite RPG of all time because of how the characters, story, lore and gameplay led me to an epic adventure that that world deserved. Honestly amazing how it could look like an MMO at its time but was actually a single player experience. Although the graphics were not as technology amazing as its competition, it never deterred me from finishing every side quest, collecting every collectibles and finishing maps by discovering surroundings I never would have thought to venture. I easily spent 180 hours on first run and I'll gladly spent another just to experience this game again Expand

Available on Wii, Wii U and New3DS (not the original 3DS). Easiest to find and cheapest on the Wii U eShop. Xenoblade is an excellent JRPG. While it may look a bit classic on some aspects, it will definitely surprise you many times with its story, dialogues, characters and stunning environments. Possibly the best game on the Wii. +++ Good

    +++ Good +++

+ amazing and unique world, it feels alive, has a lot of variety and verticality
+ excellent story, overall and on the level of each character
+ good overall gameplay, pacing and structure
+ good real-time fighting system, possibility to use environment, with reasonable use of QTE (very few)
+ fighting is good enough to not become boring despite the length of the game (40-70 hours)
+ all of these sub-systems work perfectly together and reinforce each other, something every game should strive for
+ humans live on a gigantic titan and look up to it as a god and the source of their life, the game makes a good job of showing how much those people's relation to their world matters
+ all playable characters and most important NPCs are likeable and show depth and personality over time
+ all playable chars have unique fighting styles
+ every new place, every new character, every new plot advancement... is a joy. This game is top-level entertainment all the way.
    + top-notch art direction
+ great sound track that fits perfectly the situation or the location
    + balanced and progressive difficulty
+ very short load times, only a couple seconds depending on the version you play
    + excellent British VA
+ characters will shout and talk during combats, but it is always reasonable for JRPG standards
+ good writing and some very powerful lines
+ not much grinding required, if any at all
+ does not rely heavily on the usual clichés of JRPGs
+ the game lets you know in a clever way that you will need that item you just found (even if it is for a quest given by an NPC you haven't met yet, in a place you haven't discovered yet!)
+ efficient and easy to understand tutorials
+ the game tries to remove things that are repetitive or not fun, you don't need healing items since you heal automatically outside of battles, for example
+ one of the original races created in this game, the Nopons, are absolutely adorable, have good background, and a unique design
+ you can change the time of day at any moment, which is useful if you need an item from a monster that only appears at night, for example
    + NN3DS version has a 3D-model viewer and a jukebox

    000 Meh... 000

0 some strategies can be abused to make fights very easy, but they still require good understanding of the battle mechanics to pull off
0 AI can show its limits, but only if you start really working for the best strats
0 a minority of people seem to find the voice of one of the playable chars annoying, but most seem to like it, I had no problem with it personally
0 game is not particularly long to start going, but you might still need to give it a few hours (it's an RPG after all). It will grow on you for sure.

    --- Bad ---

    - impossible to find in box at a decent price
    - the visuals are what you expect from one of the largest open world on the Wii, the art direction makes the best out of it, though
    - the NN3DS version is a severe visual downgrade
    - inventory management can be a bit annoying later on, especially when you will want to resell old equipment
    - on some rare occasions you will need a specific weather condition and this is random, forcing you to reload or fast travel repeatedly. But this is a problem for maybe 3 side quests in the entire game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If the most important aspect about video games was story, then this would be the greatest game of all time. Xenoblade Chronicles has a story that absolutely blew me away with how amazingly well-crafted and put together it was, and each and every plot twist in within the story absolutely shocked me. For example, finding out that Fiora was still alive was probably the most shocking moment I have ever seen in a video game and Dickson's betrayal completely caught me off guard as well. This game's narrative does span over around 60 hours, which may seem a bit overkill, but not with this game, as it is a narrative that is 100% complete from beginning to end. Ok, enough about the story, lets talk about the rest of the game. As far as gameplay goes, this game has a very intuitive and enjoyable battle system that is highly customizable and really gives the player room to build a team based around whatever aspects they desire, whether it be to build an all-around team, a team based solely strength or one on defense, all the options are there for the player. Also, the world of Xenoblade looks amazing and has some of the most breathtaking locations I've ever witnessed before. Want proof? Just look at Satorl Marsh and Valak Mountain. With all these locations comes a huge amount of content to delve into, as there are literally hundreds of side quests to explore, ranging from simple fetch quests to rebuilding an entire colony from the ground up. Finally, lets talk about the characters. This game has some of the best characters in any video game, such as the protagonist Shulk, Fiora, one of the game's main villains Egil, and the heropon Riki. However, not every character in this game is likable, as there are two that I absolutely despise, those being Mumkhar and Lorithia, but I digress. In conclusion, Xenoblade Chronicles is an absolute masterpiece of a game with the best story I've ever had the pleasure of playing through and one of the greatest experiences I've had with a game. An amazing technical and creative achievement for the Wii. This game will blow your mind with its grand scale. Easily a candidate for one of the best JRPGs of all time! Over the course of the next several months, I wound up putting over 230+ hours into Xenoblade Chronicles. This game is, quite simply, a masterpiece.

The story kicks off with the main character narrating an epic flashback of a battle that happened a year earlier and this cinematic sets the tone for the rest of the game. Friendship, loyalty, jealousy and betrayal, are all present in the game’s opening minutes. Nothing feels wasted. Everything is told with purpose to give the player a sense of the world he inhabits along with the war that is being waged. The war is hard to understand for the Homs who inhabit Bionis, and that sense of loss/devastation leads to feelings of animosity which ultimately culminates in the main protagonists quest to put a stop to the war and avenge those they have lost along the way. The characters are relatable yet interesting and the British voice actors did a splendid job conveying their emotions through the characters despite the lips being a tad out of sync.

Xenoblade Chronicles takes the jrpg formula into the 21st century with beautiful environments, deep storytelling, huge worlds to explore, a fully orchestrated soundtrack and a fun combat system. Whether you are progressing the main story or rebuilding a fallen colony, there is always something to do or people to help in Xenoblade Chronicles. For these reasons and a host of others, it would not be an exaggeration to say that Xenoblade was my favourite game of all-time. If you are a fan of jrpgs and you are still reading this review...stop whatever you’re doing and go play this game right now!

The combat system is one of beauty, in it that it is simplistic with the ability to be complex in the meta areas of the game, particularly with super bosses. All of this is tied together with brilliant characters who are all introduced in a unique or surprising way. In my honest opinion, based on face and possible bias. This is nearly a perfect game, while having its small annoyances or quirks, it sometimes adds to the experience while also sometimes hindering it; but never enough to quit. The masterpiece of a game is only topped off by a moving, creative, and perfect soundtrack. Overall, with its oddities and problems included, this is a must play, and quite possibly one of the best games created, for many years at least. Expand

Xenoblade Chronicles is the greatest game I’ve ever played. No other game, movie or T.V show I’ve seen has even come close to reaching a story as grand as Xenoblade Chronicles. A story as epic that when it anchors you in, there will be no escaping. Xenoblade is a masterpiece, a work of art. So beautifully designed in every way. After a bit of playing you almost stop noticing the poor graphics because of how amazingly executed the setting of Bionis and Mechonis is. You find yourself just stopping to admire the splendour of the environment you’re in; from seeing its mystical creatures, the spectacle forests or even viewing a grandeur giant Titan; a whole other world where your enemy is, just lurking on the other side of the ocean. It’s so excellently crafted that every area of that you’re in is appropriate relative to the actual Titan; for example if you’re in the nopon village which is a tree said to be in the Bionis back, and you zoom out the camera you’ll find that you’re actually on the Bionis back. If you’re on the sword of Mechonis, you can see Bionis’ and Nechonis’ size change depending on where you are on the sword. If you’re on the foot of the Mechonis when it’s misty, when lighting flashes you’ll see a dark, correctly proportioned figure of Bionis lurking in the distance. The story of the game takes use of this excellently made setting by telling the most fascinating work of literature I have experienced. All the plot twists make sense, everything is foreshadowed, everything can be predicted when deeply thought about. Just when you think the story can’t get any better, it does. The characters you meet don’t feel like just characters, but actual people with their own identity and personality, down to the last minor character in the game. You’ll feel sad for them at times, or really happy, and sometimes just confused about how you should feel. The events that take place at the end game makes you question your very own righteousness. The music that accompanies the gameplay and cutscenes just adds the emotion of it all. You could listen back to the music and the emotion you felt during a certain scene where the music played would be felt again, that’s how memorable and great the OST was. The gameplay may start out boring and dull, but so many layers of complexity ends up being added that it never feels stale and always fun and satisfying. Getting past the difficulty of the game limited only by your own will and motivation. You’ll feel the stress of the battle and at times you’d want to give up but just knowing what is at stake and wanting to find out more about the mysteries of the worlds that are bionis and mechonis make you move forward in your quest; Your quest to seize your destiny.

Plenty of twists and turns to really keep the story great, and always kept me hooked. The story and lore is extremely creative and is nothing like what I've seen in any other game. The locations are beautiful for a Wii game, and are very creative as well. Something about roaming across two giant titans is just epic. All the locations take place in different spots on the Bionis and Mechonis, and all of them differ greatly in structure and design. For example, there is a large field right on the Bionis' leg called Gaur Plain, and it looks very different in comparison to the Fallen Hand of the Mechonis, which is like a coastal beach. The characters and their designs are just fantastic and very creative. All different types of races live and thrive on both titans, like the Homs (Humans) and the Nopon, which are cute round creatures with very broken English. All of the characters that you meet have great personalities and charm. The main character, Shulk, has almost nothing in common with his best friend, Reyn. Which leads to very interesting interactions between the two characters in heart-to-hearts and in battle. All of the seven party members have great chemistry with each other, and dialogue between them can be very interesting and creative. Character development is also very good in this game, and as the main focus of the story shifts to something greater, the character's attitudes change along with it. But i feel where Xenoblade Chronicles REALLY shines to me is the music. The music is just beautiful. The tracks never get old and always fit the scene perfectly. With some tracks being epic and energetic, and other being calm and ambient. I don't even have any major issues with the game, to me it's nearly perfect, a masterpiece. Of course, with such a huge and demanding game being on the Wii, the graphics aren't anything special, but that's entirely due to technical limitations and is by no means the game's fault. I'll still give it a perfect score nonetheless. I'm positive that Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition will fix this issue, and i already pre-ordered the game. I am extremely excited to play this wonderful game in HD. In conclusion, though I may be biased because I love JRPGs and particularly the Xeno series, i think this game is one of the best I've ever played and definitely my favorite game of all time. I highly recommend this game to not only fans of JRPGs, but everyone for that matter. Expand

I first played Xenoblade Chronicles back in 2014. For a 2012 game it had an amazing story and soundtrack that still holds up to this day. The exploration and combat were very enjoyable. Character designs were beautiful, and even with the hardware limitations of the Wii, the environments were breathtaking.

I was so lucky to be able to go into this game expecting absolutely nothing from it and go out knowing what my favorite game, probably forever, is. It was a brand new franchise being released in the Wii's dead era and only made available in the US due to the efforts of Operation Rainfall. Even though it did manage to came out on top of the other 2 amazing games (Pandora's Tower and The Last Story), its success was very underwhelming. It took the main character, Shulk, getting featured in Smash for its popularity to grow at least a tiny little bit amongst Nintendo fans. Fortunately, 2 other opportunities for making this game receive the notoriety it deserved came along, but again, very unfortunately, both the 3DS and Wii U ports passed by unnoticed too. Now, with a remaster just so good that it reaches into a remake's domains, hopefully, justice will finally be served.
Every single aspect of this game can be described as amazing and memorable: an enjoyable cast of characters that actually feel like human beings and that go through major development; a delightful original soundtrack that fits every scene it's featured in; a nostalgic yet modern JRPG combat system style; a unique art style that will most definitely immerse you into this game while paired with the other aspects already mentioned and the beautiful and breathtaking scenery and atmosphere that managed to use the Wii's potential to it's fullest. It really amazes me how they managed to do so much with such an outdated console when compared to its rivals at the time: the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3.
Lastly, say or think whatever you want, you're allowed to do that. Now, the only thing you can't possibly deny is that this game has a heart. You can only get such results when you have lots of talented and inspired people working with passion and trying their best to make a masterpiece of their work. And that is what Xenoblade Chronicles is, a simply amazing and unforgettable experience. It doesn't try to revolutionize the JRPG genre nor does it have any other grandiose ambition, it only does everything a game should do just so right.
Many games revolutionize genres, but very few can be considered just the perfect game for each one, and Xenoblade Chronicles is definitely one of them.

Xenoblade features a semi-open world with some exceptional side quests and a psudo-MMO styled battle system inspired by Final Fantasy XII, though refined to great effect. And despite this focus on gameplay, the story of Xenoblade surprisingly doesn't take any hits for it. In fact, Xenoblade features as memorable of narrative and as memorable of a cast of characters as any game in the Xeno franchinse.

I love JRPGs, but most of them never manage to impress me. Be it the combat being unimaginative spell mashing or a heaping of cringey anime tropes, I wade through a lot of crap. Even AAA JRPGs like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest (The absolute king of generic JRPGs and my least favourite series, save only for its monster design, which I can appreciate with the power of Google Images) are pretty meh at the end of the day.

Xenoblade, however, is so different from other JRPGs not only in gameplay, but in quality as well. Gone are the days of sifting through menus and waiting for animations to play out. No more fanservicey scenes created from some touchless virgin's lonely mind. Xenoblade just takes everything good about JRPGs and removes any joyless crap that bogs down the experience.

The story is easily one of the most intriguing tales I've seen, taking a unique world with gorgeous aesthetics and using that world, mixed in with some good old fashioned obscure Judeo-Christian mythology, to create an engaging story. Furthermore, the writing is phenomenal, especially when looking back after beating the game. The twists and turns recontextualize early moments that stuck out, and even little remarks that might pass you by are actually subtle moments of foreshadowing. The story is further bolstered by its characters. The main party oozes chemistry, and their unique personalities, goals and interactions ensure that none of the people you stick with throughout the game get too annoying or boring. All this is tied together by an incredible voice cast in the English release. Instead of just employing Matt Mercer to play Dunban or something, the whole VA team are British, giving the game a unique tone during dialogue and cutscenes that the samey VAs from other JRPGs cant compare to.

Now, the combat. Easily my favourite combat mechanics is any game ever. Your party consists of 3 members and, like a lot of JRPGs, they each have a unique role to play, being DPS, tank and healer. An encounter starts and the characters do basic attacks automatically. You can use "spells" (dubbed "Arts" in the game) to do a variety of things, such as deal damage, heal, provide buffs or attract aggro. Sounds simple, but the Arts drives the combat to greater heights. For example, the main character Shulk has a move that deals more damage from behind, so, by using Reyn to attract aggro, Shulk can get behind and gain the damage bonus. Each of the 7 characters have a unique tool kit that makes changing up your party every now and again so much more enjoyable than just sticking with your three faves. Even 2 characters with the same role feel so different from one another you just cant help but switch characters every 2 seconds. The synergy the party members have with one another is incredible, even at the most simple form of a tank attracting attention so the squishy DPS can deal the damage. It uses this simple mechanic to great lengths so the combat never gets old. The game also has a unique mechanic in combat called Visions. You can get a random glimpse into the future of a fight to see an enemy charging up a massive attack. You can then prevent this from happening in a variety of ways, such as inflicting the Topple status effect or by getting the tank to aggro the enemy. It really creates a sense of tension and excitement as you get these sort of mini challenges during a heated fight.

The world itself is amazing. The game takes place of the bodies of two great Titans, whose corpses gave life to a diverse fauna that makes up the roster of monsters. Each open area invites you to look at the vistas and horizons. You can even look at far off areas that you can visit later on. The unique structure of the world is honestly just incredible, its hardly describable. The music is fantastic, featuring calm ambience, an orchestra that fills you with excitement or, my personal favourite, and intense metal and symphonic marriage that pumps fights up to the max.

This game ranks in my top 3 video games ever made. JRPG fans will find a unique experience like nothing before, and will look back on the game with memories and fondness, even long after the credits roll.
I personally played the Wii version, and honestly I prefer the art style over the Switch remake, but play which ever is more convenient, its an incredible game either way.
    TL;DR Play Xenoblade Chronicles. Now.

Satisfying character development and crafting and trade systems, all a little overly complex, but you can muddle through those minor parts of the game to enjoy the overall picture of great and often funny voice acting, a surprisingly powerful opening scene ( no spoilers, suffice to say the love interest you initially think is forming may not go the way you thought it would ).

Another note on the voice acting, it has been regionalised by UK actors for the UK market, and it sounds like they had a good time recording the audio, just another detail that adds to the excellence of this game.

    Gameplay: 8.5/10
In terms of gameplay you can use the classic controller or nunchuk, either way while the combat is very simplistic there are plenty of abilitys and weapons and armor to equip, in which you could actually customize your character in a way which is pretty cool. The combat mechanics may be a bit stiff at first but you'll get used to them pretty quick.

Definitely the greatest RPG on the Wii, and one of the best on this generation's home consoles, which is truly saying something. The story is your typical RPG fare, with numerous twists along the way. What this RPG apart from others, though, is the game's unique setting. It's set on the bodies of two fossilized titans, which have enough traversable areas to constitute a world map. The characters are endearing and they each have a deep background. By the end of the game, their personalities are fully fleshed out. The battle system can remind one of an MMORPG's mechanics, but it's better than that. The action is in real time and your party attacks the enemy automatically, but you can control one party member at a time through issuing your "Arts" and various commands to your teammates. Not being able to control your other party members wouldn't be a problem, if it weren't for the sometimes dumb and "suicidal" AI, but it gets the job done. There's a lot of customization in this game, a unique affinity/relationship system that comprises your party and all the named NPCs you encounter. There's a ton of side-quests in this game, too, but doing too many at a time can ruin the game's pace and potentially cause you to become over-leveled. Thankfully, the quests which are assigned by unnamed NPCs (i.e. the really generic kill and fetch ones) don't require you to return to the quest giver for the reward, lessening the grind.
Some problems aside, I recommend this game to RPG and non-RPG fans alike. It is a Nintendo game, after all.

The character moves quickly and it never seems tedious to get from point A to point B. The characters are likeable and the storyline is great. The setting for the adventure is interesting and fresh. After a few hours of play the graphical limitations faded away into non-importance and the will to advance took over. The beginning of the game is heavy with tutorials, a sign of the games complexity. Leveling up is natural with little grinding and there is a lot of enjoyment to be had by changing character equipment. Side quests don't require a trip back to town to cash in and there are many other thoughtful inclusions. Death is only a short set back, not a disasterous return to your last save. This game really brings me back to my teenage years playing FF7,8,9....A wonderful and worthwhile experience. Highly recommended. Expand

The gameplay is simple, intuitive, non-constraining, rapidly changed. There are some simple underlying patterns in quests and combats. The flow of the game is smooth and you can choose what to do based on how you feel. No forced combat sections or story progression...
There are many other good aspects of this game but I will leave you with the best. In the more than 140 hours it took me to finish most of the quests and the main story line, the game did not glitch or crash once. The people who made this game loved it. Chances are so will you.

-Environment: breathtaking, massive, and each area looks different.
-Music: One of the best soundtracks of all time. Each song is awesome, especially the Mechonis levels.
    - Heropon Riki: People will downplay this character as a pokemon ripoff, but he is hilarious, has a ton of charm, and was my favorite character to play.
-Story: It was all over the play towards the middle and end, but it kept me glued the whole way through.
-Unique Monsters: This was my favorite part of the game because each monster required a different strategy to defeat it. At one point, I was just monster hunting instead of working on the story.

    What are the cons?

Sidequests: There are a ton and most of them are generic kill/collect quests. I only did those that were on the way along the main quest, but most sidequests didn't have much originality.

Graphics: The environments are well-done, but the characters definitely look like from ps1/ps2 generation. Not a huge con just because the mechonis levels looked awesome.

Forced grinding: I wish there were more quests that weren't so grindy and granted exp just so you didn't have to kill every monster in a dungeon over and over.

Overall, I definitely recommend a playthrough the game. It's a great RPG that should be experienced by people who won't can appreciate a game like this.

All of the characters in the story are interesting, well voiced, extremely British, and not annoying (except Riki, who is the embodiment of annoyance).
The story of the game is great mainly due to the game's setting atop two massive titans called the Bionis and the Mechonis. It is full of plot twists and character development which keeps the it interesting.
The very best aspect of this game is its music, which is nothing short of masterful. The very best memory I have of this game involves entering a grand and expansive location, only then to be greeted by the best song in game. Every track suits the scenery it accompanies.
The only fault people have with this game are the graphics. However, as far as Wii games go, the graphics aren't half bad. When looking at things up close, they might seem to be rather ugly. However, when viewing giant new areas, the game looks gorgeous.
Take all these aspects and combine them with a nonlinear and lengthy experience, and you get an excellent JRPG and one of the Wii's best games.

The music is memorable and some tracks will get stuck in your head. Some melodies reminded me of Kingdom Hearts, and after researching it turns out Yoko Shimomura did contribute a bit to the music. I thought the story might end up being a bit cookie cutter but it's not. I should have expected this considering the same storyteller created Xenogears (another classic).

The battle system is engaging and there are enough characters you can play with to keep it interesting. Some of the missions can be repetitive as there are a lot of fetch quests, but fortunately a lot of these do not require you to return to the quest-giver. I was able to develop an affinity myself for all the characters who, by the way, are voice casted quite well imo.

The game goes deeper than expected through using character/town affinity and gem crafting systems. Increasing affinity is what seems to take up most of one's time in the game. My main complaint here is that if you focus of finishing side missions and increasing affinity, you easily end up over-leveling yourself for the story missions and boss fights are less rewarding.

I had an incredible time with my 100+ hours in this gorgeous world. I'd say if one is an RPG fan and happened to miss this gem on the Wii, rectify that situation posthaste!

Short review, amazing game, really well designed battle system, great plot, and overall you're getting one of the most well thought out games I have ever seen. The whole world just comes to life in this game, and every location feels like a real place, that has some real importance. Plus the boss fights in this game are just amazing.

However if you don't get hooked withing 4 hours, put it down and never look back. Why? While the story is amazing, if you don't like the start, you probably won't like the rest of it. Plus there is a lot of needless walking in this game. Honestly they could have cut 20 hours out of the game just by introducing a motorcycle or something. It's just too long of a game, it could have been compressed into 40 hours no problem.

That said, this is still a 9/10, it's one of the best RPG's which I have ever played. It really feels like a 90's JRPG, and without spoiling anything........there is blood....in a Nintendo game.........

The only downside i see to this incredible game is that it gets repetitive a little bit after a while, the dungeons have no imagination, you just walk and battle thats ALL you're going to do in them, no puzzle element at all. So why did they made them SO big! So many in this game is big for the sake of being big!

Both the organic world and the machine world are a joy to behold, and the game's filled with amazing characters, LOVE the choice of british voices for the characters, they should do that always, american dubbing has ruined great games like the tales series (which i rather put in mute!).

The world this game is set, is just outright thrilling. Just the fact that you're roaming around on a badass-looking giant, standing in a infinite sea, facing his mechanic arch nemesis should already hype you up. The concept is truly what makes this game. The story, of course, does not fall short mainly because its amazing execution (it gives you dem feels). It is a very "Japanese" story however, like we've seen in many other games like final fantasy and various anime, that is to say that it deals with quite a complex and philosophical matter and does so on a grand scale whilst looking almost like an innocent children's game with our ever so perfect righteous main characters who help everybody and only ever do good. This might scare off the more sober audiences who also might or might not like the combat system, which is a more dynamic version of the standard turn-after-turn combat that is decent, but has a lot more potential if it wasn't for some horrible AI. Well it really isn't that bad, but it limits some of the given strategies, which is a shame. Also, I just want to give major props to both the art direction, which made this game that had beneath average graphics because of the Wii's limited power (if you didnt realise by my 150 hours, this game is huge and pushes the Wii over its boundaries), still look visually incredible, and the composers, who have given us what I think is one of the best gaming OSTs ever, for adding to such a memorable experience (and of course, the feels). I can certainly say that I've spent my time well these last months. Expand

Talking about the Wii, is surreal to think that Xeno is a game that runs well. The amount of grass rendered e the scope of all of the areas in the game would put most developers at their knees to make the game run at stable 30fps on the wii's hardware, but Monolith without a doubt nailed it.
The gameplay is a different and fun alternative to your average turn based JRPG, each character has it's own set abilities (from offensive ones, supportive, defensive etc.), paired with an auto attack that rolls every time, while you can move to distance from enemies, or difficult their chances of hitting you. This system gives you a way more intense gameplay and creates a deck of strategies and different ways to play the game. Although, the combat has some flaws: The animations are kinda poor, bottlenecking the complexity and hurting the combat and the level up system is way tougher than it should have been.
The story really flashes out on this game. At start, it looks a pretty generic two kingdoms, human vs. machine plot. But, trust me, it violently develops. Going on topics like religion, races, society and spiritualism. Since a really big spoiler happens at the first hour, i won't go further than this.
The level/world design is a wonder. Not only because of the titan's corpses that hosts all of the game, but the vivids civilizations and wildlife that fulfills the world, with a big variety and diferences between npc's, enemies or villagers.
The visual part is a tough one. The beautiful models and details, are bottlenecked by the Wii's pathetic hardware. And the secondary cutscenes are really low quality. So, play on Dolphin instead.
The audio is neat. Not spectacular, but does it's job.
The OST, MY BOY. One of the finest pieces of music on gaming history. With a big array of instruments, genres, tracks and rhythms, is the strongest point of the game.
A true masterpiece of the Wii, kinda thrown back by the console's weak hardware. Luckily, Dolphin exists. So you can enjoy the game at it's full potential.

The dialogue, the humor, the artwork, the prophecy system, the music, the variety of environments, the character progression, the crafting system, the crazy quest density, the quest quality, the memorable characters, the collectibles, the secrets, and so on. Xenoblade Chronicles is the sort of precious jRPG that this recent console generation has sorely lacked. Despite some missteps and over-complication, the game stands out as one of the best in recent years. Xenoblade creates a world simply begging to be explored.
