Overall, Summer Athletics isn't a horrible game but it suffers the lack of creativity its ho-hum name implies.
-
BoomtownThere is fun to be had with this game, but only in certain events and it’s not worth spending your hard earned cash to own the game, as it won’t come out of the box too often.
-
Some events are decent; others are downright terrible. Multiplayer can be okay, but the learning curve is too steep for the title's intended audience.
-
Bar a few trivial issues, it’s a marvelously playable title.
-
The game doesn't feel rewarding enough, and that's a shame since interest in the Beijing Olympics was very high.
-
Games Master UKNot the most accessible sports title, but could pick up some medals with committed gamers. [Oct 2008, p.73]
-
Summer Athletics captures none of the passion and excitement of summer athletics.
-
There’s no excuse making controls overly complicated on a system who’s audience wants a game that’s easy to pick up and play. Recommended only for the most hardcore Olympiads.
-
Summer Athletics doesn't have a lot going for it. Some of the events can be fun on some level, but there are better competition games on the market. It also has some pretty big presentation issues.
-
n-Revolution Magazine UKA decent Olympic contender. Shame about a couple of iffy control issues. [Issue#26, p.66]
-
Nintendo GamerA few good ideas, but it's mainly happy to fall back on some geriatric genre conventions. [Oct 2008, p.67]
-
Official Nintendo Magazine UKFalls flat at the first hurdle. [Oct 2008, p.95]
-
Despite its perfectly serviceable visuals, Summer Athletics has none of that charm, putting its mistakes squarely in the spotlight.
