Pleasant little Zelda-style arcade RPG with nicely stylized graphics and music. Much better than Okamiden on the DS.

This game drags so much, and should never be compared to Zelda, this game literally tells you how to solve each puzzle before you even have a chance of trying yourself! It's just busywork! Amazingly flawed game design! The graphic style is beautiful, the characters funny, but god damn does this not deserve all the praise it gets, be warned. Expand

The gameplay style is a mix of action, platform, and puzzle gaming genres, and has been noted by many reviewers to have numerous similarities in overall gameplay style to The Legend of Zelda series,[3] an inspiration that director Hideki Kamiya, a self-proclaimed Zelda fan, has admitted has influenced his general game design.[4] The main story is primarily linear, directed by Amaterasu's guide Issun, though numerous side quests and optional activities allow for players to explore the game world and take the story at their own pace.[5] By completing quests, side quests and small additional activities (such as making trees bloom into life or feeding wild animals), Amaterasu earns Praise, which can then be spent to increase various statistics of the character, such as the amount of health and number of ink wells for Celestial Brush techniques.[6] Expand

It is a masterpiece of a game.

It would be a 10 had it not been for the frustrating imprecision of the Wii controller.

Other than that great environment to explore and mysterious atmosphere too.

I'm honestly not sure why this game gets compared to Zelda, is it because you smash pots and have an annoying companion in both? A humble choice: it carries the stigma of an unwanted pest or predator, and shares the same family with the dog, a subservient, simple creature. Throughout the game, as you fight monsters and battle evil, small, seemingly trivial tasks pop up. You will help a person with a simple problem. You will lift up the unhappy. You repair watermills and, with your divine power, dry an old woman's laundry for her. So much of the game focuses on these little acts, god though you are.

This is the theme of the game: a being far above stoops down low to save our lowly selves from our troubles (and even from those we bring on ourselves). It becomes apparent now, this choice of creature. The dog is, also, unbreakably loyal, loving, and self-sacrificing. The wolf is, also, fearsome, powerful, and majestic. This god is wholly unselfish, and fighting serves the same purpose as those little acts of kindness. As you do these things with Okami, a strange joy begins to take hold. A beauty appears in redeeming your own creation, in taking notice and care of even small suffering. You view battles and action now as means to restores life. Every tree, creature, and person began to hold weight and to matter. What is going on? What is the source of the draw to these things?

In the final moments of the game, it dawns on you why.

Excellent game, everyone should play it. Really. It has nice story, nice character, nice graphycs. The design is unique. Finally, the humor, you will laugh sometimes. I am aware that this game have its own charm, but it reminds me (just a little) an another game: Zelda Ocarine of Time.

Mind you, I unfortunately rented the Wii version which, as I understand it, practically ruined the playability. Okami is a very creative and enjoyable game. The graphics are gorgeous, the music is amazing, and the game's creativity never fails to impress. The use of brush techniques (especially with the wii-mote) is intuitive and responsive. At times, it can get a little repetitive, however this occurs very rarely.
It's a very fresh and creative game worthy of anyone's time.

Customization is, initially, rather poor, but once you beat the game, it rewards you with tons more options based on how well you've done, an excellent system that most games forget: Don't stick a carrot in front of the players face and tell them to go from point A to point B. I don't know, but for me this game shows us once more how high the bars of The Legend of Zelda franchise really are. Don't get me wrong, I like Okami (otherwise I never would gave it a 6) but to say that this game is at the same (or even higher) level as Zelda is downright wrong. It's a good game on its own..So don't compare it to Zelda...a franchise which now last over 25 years !!

Bottom line = Good Game with lots of very good aspects (gameplay, graphics and music), but after a while it gets repetitive and tyring. I would say give it a shot!

For the most part, the controls are fun to use and the game is enjoyable. I spent time testing the different ways I could jump, and getting my attacks timed for the most damage. However, the one thing that did disappoint me was the brush. Though much smoother in certain aspects than I expected, it can be unforgiving at times.

What is clearly a circle to you and me, may not be picked up as such by the engine, requiring several attempts, adjustments etc. When timing is factor, this can be frustrating, especially if you shake. As such, I would advise those without steady hands to avoid this game. Additionally, I would advise every to stay away from getting the dodge move, it does not work as intended.
