Mario Party 8 is party enough to be a good game, but it's not as charming as previous installments.

This game has lots of flaws. First of all, the first thing that everyone notices when starting to play is how mediocre it is from a technical point of view. Bad graphics, animations and FPS. And it's so slow that you will get bored after 3 turns.

The best part of the game are the mini games, which are fun. There are good boards, but some of them are disappointing, because they're too linear. And this is not fun, especially if you play 1 vs 1 (which oc you will if you want to unlock every character). Let's just say that the game is good if you play with a friend, but it's not the right choice if you're alone. And yeah, it's true that MP is made for multiplayer, but the other games of the series are fun even if you play alone.

Despite the motion controls being very clunky for many minigames, the boards are not that bad, and the candy gimmicks are quite original. The best feature is hands down the Characters Roster. I mean, you can play as Martelkoopa!

This game is friggin awesome. It was my first Wii Game and I conquered the whole game because it was that awesome and if you don't like MP8 you are silly as Justin Bieber. Why the heck is this game is under rated? WHY?! I love the Fun Bazzar,Minigame

This game just doesn't hold up and isn't very good. The maps are unique and fun enough, but this game has it's downfall with the minigames. Over motion control reliant, once you've played a couple of them, you've played them all.

I enjoyed THE CRAP out of this game when I was little, But since I’ve grown up, I can definitely feel like Mario Party starts to go downhill here.

Overall, this is a underrated Mario Party, but its still not amazing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As expected from the Mario Party series, the game consists of Mario Party boards and minigames as well. But what stands out from this generic expectation is that the graphic designs are a major improvement from it's predecessors. Some graphics may be blur but is compensated by a sheer and lively background music that is considered as quite "catchy".

The story is still generic, majority of the minigames and some other game options and selections in the game are not enjoyable and is like it was just added to include some functionality for the game which is in my opinion, is not necessary to be included.

At least they manage to pull of wonderful board games with satisfying results along the way. I enjoyed the most in these board games is the "Koopa's Tycoon Town" board game because it resembles just like monopoly and seeing that you can buy those luxurious hotels makes you feel quite satisfied, enjoyed, and competitive that you can afford those fancy properties. That board game makes you care about those gold coins that are now look like valuable tokens that must be earned immediately.

Overall, the game is still a decent Mario Party installment. Just enjoy the great board games and you can still have a wonderful time here. In my opinion, some minigames and other game options are boring and makes you think that "should it not be added, because it is not a necessity and quite ruins the game, overall".

Board games quality rating -> 9/10.

    Overall Rating: 3.5/5 -> 7/10 stars

The Mario Party games have always provided plenty of multiplayer fun (although single player has always been dull) but this eighth entry in the series, while still potentially fun played with a group of friends, is a huge step backwards.

An element of luck has always been required if you were to win but here it is taken to the extreme with stars no longer awarded post-game for winning

An element of luck has always been required if you were to win but here it is taken to the extreme with stars no longer awarded post-game for winning the most mini-games or collecting the most coins. The mini-games themselves also lack the imagination of previous titles with the majority just requiring players the shake the Wiimote as fast as they can. Do yourself a favour and pick up either Mario Party 4 or the DS Version instead.

The game wasn't the best Mario game I've ever played. Some elements were okay, but I strongly disliked the fact you had to either buy the mini-games with your tickets or play the boards countless times to see all of them. After you earn all of them, the game has a little more thrill. Having a friend really upped the ante for the amount of fun, but all-in-all, not that great.

The boards in this game are actually pretty cool, although there are only 6 of them including the unlockable Bowser board. The downfall of this game is that none of the minigames are any fun. The N64 Mario Parties are way better than this. Mario Party 8 has no minigames that I really like or look forward to or am excited about when they get drawn from the hat.

The AI on Hard are STUPIDLY good at minigames
There's a lot of dice rolling and the AI on hard are ASTONISHINGLY good at getting good dice rolls.
The AI even normally can and WILL do their BEST to steal everything you've ever worked for.
There's a stupid annoying turtle with a hat and a horribly annoying laugh
You wonder whether this is a good idea for getting subs or LOSING THEM.
Overall a pretty aggravating game that I have only given a higher rating than a 6 to show that I'm not just hating Mario Party for the sake of hating Mario or Parties its just that other games make for better parties I find than this game.
But all of this is just my opinion and I'm sure that everyone else thinks differently after all I'm not a Mario fan

The first party game I ever played, I loved this game for years and years but stopped playing it for a long time, and when I came back to it, I found it wasn't the awesome game I remembered.
The most notable problem is that the game runs in 4:3 for all the games, whereas menus all run in 16:9, which is very annoying. The games themselves seem to drag more than in previous Mario Party

The games themselves seem to drag more than in previous Mario Party games, every turn seems to go on for an eternity, and is why I now know why 50 turn games used to take me all day, the board aren't very interesting, maybe due to the graphics being rather poor, and the rules of each board are kinder boring. The mini games are slow and the control is sloppy for the most part, none of the mini games are particularly exciting, the motion controls are very poorly used (and in some cases in some rather rude ways), and it can get quite boring.

Mario Party 8 is the most recent Mario Party that's actually good (mario party 9 crappy gameplay). I enjoyed playing as hammer bro and blooper, but thought that the star carnival was very hard. Too many minigames were luck based. The pace was also too slow.

Around 95% of the time, the computer rewards the player with landing on a space that sends you back to the start, or making the CPU get a number that ultimately makes them win, no matter how big of a lead you had. All that changes when you play with friends, though, but this game destroys friendships if you lose your cool with it. Simply put, if you're playing alone, Mario Party 8 is just cheap. The amount of times that instances happen is so mind-blowing that you will soon find yourself throwing your controller against the wall. All of our complaints about previous games – the slow pace, the lackluster single-player affair, the loose attention to detail – all remain and with Mario Party 8 we can add another criticism: ignorance of the Wii remote.

A really disappointing (but, as mentioned at the start of this review, inevitably still entertaining) Wii debut for the series. Perhaps the next game will truly take advantage of the Wii controls through and through.
  3. There are some good minigames in Mario Party 8, but the overly familiar, chance-heavy board game wrapper gets in their way.
