I like kart games. I like the Madagascar films. Seemed like it was perfect to blend the two together, right? WRONG. The kart gameplay is seriously boring. I like the Madagascar films. Seemed like it was perfect to blend the two together, right? WRONG. The kart gameplay is seriously boring. I know kart games have the same kind of gameplay usually, but it seems like this one is ripping off good kart games like Mario kart. even its power-ups do this. the power-ups and the way they are used look like they've been ripped right out of Mario kart and sonic all stars racing. The controls are very finicky in this game. I find myself going way to out of control and doing constant "barrel rolls of death", or a way that seriously slows you down. The character roster isn't that good. this game is based on Madagascar, yet half of its characters are from other dreamworks movies, like shrek and monsters vs. aliens. Why was this necessary with a MADAGASCAR game? But the absolute worst part of the game is the dialogue. all the characters sound a bit distorted, and each character tries so hard to use slapstick in an attempt to make the game "funny". None of the jokes are funny. none of the dialogue sounds good, or even bland. it's just plain bad. Even the graphics are pretty bad, even for a wii game. I've seem better graphics in Mario Kart, or even Sonic All Stars racing, which was released the same year. Overall, what can I say about this game: it tries so hard to be funny, and the gameplay seemingly rips off other popular kart games. Do yourself a favor: Never touch this game. EVER. Expand

So cool they spelt Carts with a z (Cartz). recommended for people who want to try another Wii Kart racer, after playing M&Ms Kart Racing

Madagascar Kartz offers mildly annoying, but overall fine controls that get the job done. The kart handling is relatively responsive, allowing players to navigate through the various tracks with relative ease. The kart handling is relatively responsive, allowing players to navigate through the various tracks with relative ease. However, there are moments when the controls feel slightly imprecise, leading to occasional frustrations, especially during tight turns or when trying to execute precise maneuvers. Despite these minor drawbacks, the controls are functional enough to enjoy the game's fast-paced races and maintain a decent level of fun and competition.

Madagascar Kartz fails to deliver a unique racing experience, falling into the trap of being "just another cart racer." While it draws inspiration from the Madagascar film series, the game fails to capitalize on its potential for innovation and instead relies heavily on generic kart racing mechanics. The tracks, although based on vibrant locations from the films, lack creativity and fail to offer memorable or challenging experiences. The inclusion of characters from the franchise feels more like a marketing ploy rather than a meaningful addition to the gameplay.

However, amidst the lackluster gameplay, there is one redeeming factor that adds a glimmer of excitement: the inclusion of Shrek as a playable character. Shrek's appearance in Madagascar Kartz brings a surprising and oddly entertaining element to an otherwise mundane racing game. His presence injects a sense of humor and charm that stands out amidst the game's mediocrity. Players who are fans of the Shrek franchise will find some solace in being able to race as their favorite ogre, even if it feels like a desperate attempt to elevate the game's appeal through a popular character crossover. While Shrek's inclusion may not fully salvage the overall experience, it does provide a small ray of enjoyment in an otherwise lackluster racing title.

(Despite a rather negative review, I'm still giving it an 8 because of the hours I spent playing with the bros as a joke... and shrek.... mostly because of shrek)

The pros do outweigh the cons in this kart racer, and hopefully the younger players can tolerate the elements I found entirely too frustrating.

If you like Mario Kart and if you want to drive another tournament, you can put Madagascar Kartz in your console. The game is a decent rip-off but nothing more than that.

This is barely one evolutionary step beyond the likes of Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing. [June 2010, p.71]
