    Splatoon is here and my goodness this game is amazing. You choose your gender, skin tone and eye color and then your ready to play (after a quick tutorial). You can go into Multiplayer straight away or try out the story mode. Very short but fun and gives weapon and gear unlocks. Multiplayer is where this game shines, After the very recent update we have over 10 stages 30 weapons and tonsSplatoon is here and my goodness this game is amazing. The maps are all enjoyable and offer fun fights my favorites being blackbelly skatepark, arowana Mall and Moray towers. The gear is fun to wear and give some great bonuses. Splatfests are another fun event, pick a side ( for example dogs vs cats) and do turf wars in the beautiful spaltoon world at night. The update also increased the level cap and added party matchmaking with up to 4 and private matches up to 8. The weapons feel balanced and the game is overall one of the best games Nintendo has ever made… Expand

    It's a game that attempts all new mechanics to try and shake up the third-person shooter genre. However, it falls flat because of the low amount of content that it contains. Only a few of the weapons feel effective online and the small amount of content in single player is underwhelming. But if they can improve future iterations, then Nintendo will have a very good and successful franchise.

    A decent game. Some fun game modes. Interesting take on the shooter genre.

    This game got boring really quickly though. Not worth full price, maybe grab it in the sales if you fancy something a little different.

    Now that Splatoon has received a lot of its content and has become a more fleshed-out experience, I think it's fair to give the game a review now.

    First, let's get the bad out of the way. There is little to no offline play. Sure, there's a decent single-player campaign, but there's not a lot to it. Beat this level, collect this scroll, rinse and repeat. The Battle Dojo is a joke, don't    Now that Splatoon has received a lot of its content and has become a more fleshed-out experience, I think it's fair to give the game a review now.

    First, let's get the bad out of the way. There is little to no offline play. Sure, there's a decent single-player campaign, but there's not a lot to it. Beat this level, collect this scroll, rinse and repeat. The Battle Dojo is a joke, don't even try it. It's a slapped on "Shoot more targets than your friend" that makes even Wii Play's "Shoot more targets than your friend" seem like a much better game. Also, the amiibo functionality is a bit shallow. It gives some Super Mario Galaxy comet-like twists to some of the campaign levels. However, the different challenges they present you with is either "Complete level with ___ weapon" or "Beat this in ___ minutes!". The gear is cool, it is not worth $13 for each figure.

    The main problem with Splatoon, however, is just how much of an internet based game this is. What happened to local multiplayer? Sure, the online is a great feature of the game, but when Nintendo eventually takes down the Wii U servers this game is going to be worthless. Having local multiplayer turf war would make this game an endless supply of fun and I would probably give it a 10. It's that much of a factor. I know Nintendo is capable of making it happen, so what gives?

    All of that aside, Splatoon is fantastic. The variety of weapons, maps, and gear are great. The game's main mode, turf war, is the most fun I've had with a shooter since Star Wars Battlefront 2. The integration of miiverse is well done. Anyone with a good internet connection looking for a fresh shooter experience should seriously consider this game. It has one of those dumb ranked systems that other online games have, which I'll never understand why they thought "If your team sucks, your rank goes down!" instead of "If you score a lot of points, then you get a better rank!" was a good idea. However, that is just a minor gripe on an otherwise perfect multiplayer game.

    If this game gets a real local multiplayer mode in the future, you can give Splatoon a 10 for me. Otherwise, Splatoon is a solid 7. Only get it if you like online play.    … Expand

    Possibly the game that defines the Wii-U. Goofy, yet fun, cartoony yet beautiful. Nintendo, you've done it again! Let's break it down, shall we?

    A: Music/Sounds Splatoon has some really nice music in it. Possibly even better than the Legend of Zelda series. Pretty much the society in the game is based around music. It is really strange, yet they pull it off brilliantly. The music is    Possibly the game that defines the Wii-U. Goofy, yet fun, cartoony yet beautiful. Nintendo, you've done it again! Let's break it down, shall we?

    A: Music/Sounds

    Splatoon has some really nice music in it. Possibly even better than the Legend of Zelda series. Pretty much the society in the game is based around music. It is really strange, yet they pull it off brilliantly. The music is so catchy, that I have caught myself humming to the tune all of the time. The sounds are amazing as well, but the music is absolutely astounding in this game.

    B: Graphics

    The graphics in this game are actually quite simple, but they are so polished that you can't help but stare. Even the landscape in the game looks better than some modern PS4 games, and the PS4 is more powerful than the Wii-U. The graphics aren't realistic, but they aren't supposed to be. Even the unique patterns of the Ink Splatter really stood out to me in this game.

    C: Gameplay

    The gameplay and controls in this game are actually really well done, and definitely utilises the gamepad. If you are to play Online, you have to cover up as much ground as possible in the time limit. If your team has covered up more ground in the time, you win. Kills do not count, but they are useful as it can prevent the other players from covering up ground. You can shoot ink onto the ground, then actually turn into a Squid to hide from other players, easier transportation, go through girders, and fill up your ink bar. The battling system is easily much more fun than most realistic shooters - and stands out in the spotlight. There's even a huge variety of weapons that have unique stats and abilities, and can really make gameplay change. Even exploring the hub town of Inkopolis is fun, as you can meet suspicious characters and see what other people have been doing via miiverse. Every once in a while, they even have a thing called 'Splatfest'. This is where there are 2 options, and players get to vote between one of the two. For Example: Which is better, Zombies or Ghosts? - This is just one of the many little touches that makes this game worth getting.

    10/10

    D: Online

    This is where the game truly stands out. The online community for this game is massive, and is thriving no matter what time of the day it is. It is extremely easy to get a match up and running, and you can even play a minigame while you wait for people to join! Pretty much 90% of this game relies on Online, so besides the Story Mode, I can't really think of anything that isn't online. Playing online is extremely fun, but after a couple of matches, it can get a little boring. There aren't too many gamemodes, but I'm sure that with DLC and updates, it can easily be fixed (As they have already started doing, by the way).

    9/10 WITH my Thumbs Up of Approval

    Now that we have broken down pretty much everything of the game (Except for Story, I didn't finish that) I can come to my conclusion. Splatoon is an amazing game that relies pretty much fully on Online. If you aren't able to connect to the internet, the game isn't much to look at besides the story mode. But if you can join Online, this game is possibly the best for the Wii-U. So, my overall rating - the second highest I can possibly offer...

    10/10 WITH my 2015 GOTY Award AND Wii-U Definitive Game Award!    … Expand

    This review was written post update new map updates. I felt i had to come back here after i remembered how people complained about the lack of content. Pretty much every issue besides voice chat has been fixed. The only issue you could have with the game is that you can't select a specific game mode besides turf war.     Splatoon is a unique take on team based battle games. The game is well made, and the control scheme is intuitive and easy to learn for all ages. I'll be honest that I did buy this game primarily thinking that I could play local multiplayer with my daughter, but unfortunately I was expecting something this game is not. However we have still had a lot of fun taking in turns online. Overall ISplatoon is a unique take on team based battle games.     They're many weapons from different category (Shooter, Charger, Roller, etc.) you can use, all of which have their advantages and disadvantages. Each weapon comes with a Sub weapon, and a Special weapon, giving out different playing style. Each shot from your weapons, and the sub weapon, consumes ink from your tank, which is ammo. If you're running out of ammo, hide in your ink to recharge. You also have a special meter for your special weapon, and it fills up as you cover turf. These weapons are powerful, and can change the tide of the match.
    You have the option to play as either a Male inkling, or a Female inkling. And there's shops where you an get gear (But you first must reach Level 10). Each gears have special abilities, such as higher defense, faster speed, and things like that. You can unlock even more abilities by playing online more.

    The game's main selling point is its great online mode. There are two modes you can play online: Turf War, and Ranked Battle.

    In Turf War, 2 teams of 4 Inklings must cover as much a turf as possible with their ink before the time runs out. Whichever team covers the most turf wins. You get points by inking turfs and splatting enemies. After the game, you'll get points based on your overall performance, which is need to level up.

    In Ranked Battle, you'll compete in a competitive mode with different games modes. Winning will rise up your rank, while losing lowers it. You also get more points in ranked battle than you do in turf war.

    There are many stages to play on online. The stages are the same for both turf war and ranked battles. Each are completely different, and requires new strategy. The stage selection rotates daily, so you'll be playing different stages each day.

    Perhaps the only real lacking thing in Splatoon is the single player mode. There is a story mode where you must rescue stolen zapfish from a evil octopus-like race. While it can be fun, it's also easy to beat. The only hard part in the final boss.

    Overall, definitely one of the best games on the Wii U. You'll love its online mode.    … Expand

    Such a breathe of fresh air. As a fan or Nintendo's, I normally have to resort to PC or PS4 for competitive online fun. This game is so fun! A must have for any Wii U owner, and maybe the tipping point for those who have debated on purchasing a Wii U.

It is pretty enjoyable although some stage ideas are repeated. It also has one of the best final bosses of any game ever. The multiplayer is where the bread and butter is at. The    Splatoon is one of the most unique shooters i have ever played.

    The single player campaign is short but sweet. It will last anywhere from 4-6 hrs long. You play through a couple of stages and fight a boss. It is pretty enjoyable although some stage ideas are repeated. It also has one of the best final bosses of any game ever.

    The multiplayer is where the bread and butter is at. The game always runs at 60fps online which is great and makes the experience feel very smooth and natural. Another thing that feels natural is the control. The game controls very well and squid mode boosts maneuverability for even greater control. There is a lot of content and more is being added to this day.

    Overall i think splatoon is a great game and is a must buy for any wii u owner.    … Expand

Hundreds of FREE weapons, cosmetics, and DLC that adds new content every other week. The responsive controls make the game feel great, and the classic Nintendo charm is here in spades! With fantastic free DLC, I always find a reason to come back to this game, as they have added so many weapons and maps that all feel unique from one another.Splatoon is one of my new favorite games on the Wii U! It has some problems, sure, but the good things definitely outweigh the bad. The responsive controls make the game feel great, and the classic Nintendo charm is here in spades!     One of Nintendo's most innovative game in years is Splatoon - a shooter that is hard to describe but impossible to hate. A little light on content initially as this felt rushed out the door to make a release date, free DLC has helped fill in some of the holes. Still doesn't feel like a complete game, but what is here is a lot of fun as long as you have a robust online connection.

    I was so confident in this game when it was announced and it did not disappoint me! After being burned out on other multiplayer shooters that felt repetitive and monotonous, this was such a breath of fresh air! My only real complaint is that the game is light on single player content, and the local multiplayer lacks meat on the bones.     It won best shooter/multiplayer game of 2015 for very good reason. Campaign: Mario galaxy with guns and has epic boss battles. Multiplayer: Just insanely addictive. Also with tight excellent gameplay this is a must own game

    Almost 150h playing since it comes talk for itself, an incredible, fast and very agile controls set the new style on how to play a shooter (the two stick stile is in the stone age compared to the super agile gyroscope stile...), this title is like heroin made videogame, absolute adictive and tremendous fun, it goes straigh to your throath.

    Silly, quirky, and most importantly, fun. The game is easy to play, and actually makes admirable use of the WiiU's motion controls. It's predominantly online, but does have an acceptable single player mode, if you ever get bored of matchmaking. The game feels unique, it's fun to look at, and fun to play, definitely a must have for the WiiU.

It is a teamgame! So I don't understand why most people give full points here, it is not understandable at all.     Now we are coming to the worst, Every time when you start this game you have to watch the splatoon news. 2 girls are telling you about updates and the current maps... which is so annoying because you can't skip it and you have to read their bla bla bla slowly, again and again. Please nintendo since you screwed so much up on the wii u, let me skip this stuff!!!!!
    When the map pool is changing between the rounds you will get send straight to the splatoon news also.

    Yeah the map pool, 2 maps on normal games, 2 maps on ranked... not much at all, another thing that can be really boring. Well this game doesn't have much maps yet at all, but I think they are pretty active with releasing new weapons.

The Octarians (the rivals of the Inklings) have stolen the energie source of Inkcopolis...get it    I already did a review on Splatoon back in February 16 2016, but because the game is still evolving and already purchase the amiibo. I feel like is worth a revisiting. Is it really worth that 9/10 i gave it in my older review?, let's find out.

    STORY: In Splatoon we get a very simple story. The Octarians (the rivals of the Inklings) have stolen the energie source of Inkcopolis...get it back!.

    P.S: This is only if you play story mode.

    PRESENTATION: Splatoon just SCREAMS Japan. And the art style definitely reflects that having some flashy colors and models that really contrast the world that the game provides.

    Performance wise Splatoon is excellent. The smooth 60 fps remain constant throughout 98% of the game, but to do that the game had to be downgraded to 720p, but the antialiasing cleans most of the rough edges.

    And then we have...of course...the SPECTACULAR soundtrack. What make this one stand out is that it's a combination of many different styles like Jpop, Rock and even Dubstep, which are very Japanese like if you could no doubt tell. Many of these songs are composed by this game's fictional group, the Squid Sisters, which are composed by Callie and Marie. Why do i tell you that?, well...they are freaking adorable!.

    GAMEPLAY: Splatoon is Nintendo's take on the third person shooter genre. The main innovation of the game is, of course, turning into a squid (with the ZL button). This mechanic provides a lot of depth to the game, as well as many possibilities of approaching situations, maybe you'll hide in a specific spot to SPLAT! someone to continue painting that area in peace or maybe you will spray paint on the walls to get to a hire area to place a sub weapon or simply paint from a higher place.

    We also have different weapons like a paint bucket, a paint-brush, a rapid-fire gun, a roller, a freakin mini-gun!, and a sniper-rifle. Each one having a specific use that i can't comment on because metacritic's 5000 letter count sucks!.

    So we have 6 different weapons with each one having different variations and slo packing a sub-weapon. This sub weapons are activated with the R trigger and they can range from a barrier, a paint bomb, a sticky paint bomb, grenades and my personal favorite, the paint-sprayer, since you can leave it in any place and while you are covering a certain area, the sprayer will be painting another in a 360° radio.

    Not only that, but each weapon also has a "SUPER WEAPON" that can be activated by pressing the stick, but to use it you need to fill a meter by covering area or by splatting other inklings. But when you manage to do so you can activate a Bazooka, a Torpedo, a bomb rush, a shield, a Kraken transformation, etc.

    Unfortunately the sub and SUPER! weapons are locked with the main one, so in order to get what you want it's completely random, but personally i never had any problem with it.

    Splatoon has to different ways to play. First is the single player, where you fight the evil ontarians, complete missions and fight extremely fun bosses that requiere stragetie and understanding of the mechanics of the game and with the Amiibo you can get even more missions and unlock mini games and gear or simply giving Carrie and Marie more songs and dance moves. But let's be honest, the online mode is the the main focus here, so let's see what modes we have:

    Turf War: You have to cover as much ground as you can possibly can in less than 3 minutes and the team who paints more of the stage wins. This will be the only mode that you will get access to for the first 10 levels, but i don't have any problems since it's very addictive.

    Splat Zones: Here you need to cover a specific area on the map and the team that remains the more in that area, while it's theirs, wins. This mode is extremely fun a chaotic when everyone is in the same place, struggling and fighting over the zone.

    Tower Control: This mode is the very definition of chaos. There's a tower in the middle of the stage and the team who drags the tower to the opposite team's place or the one who makes it the furthest wins

    Rainmaker: There's a statue of a Fish laying around the map and the team who carries it to the opposite team's base wins. One player does have to carry the Rainmaker and while it makes you slow, you can defend yourself with tornadoes of paint, but for the most part you depend on your teammates to protect you.

    Splatfest:. You pick a team of a specific theme like Dogs vs Cats or something. And then you play the other modes and the team that wins the more matches wins the competition. It's extremely fun since it depends on you to make your team win and when Callie and Marie announce the winner you are in the edge of your seat.

    There's some other stuff i forgot to mention like the way that perks are locked to your gear, but i don't find it necessary.

    Overall Splatoon is a fantastic and unique game and a definite must own for any Wii U owner and i still maintain that 9/10 i gave it last time.    … Expand

    Another great new IP by Nintendo! Overall this game is fun! I remember getting so hyped for this game MONTHS before its release. I still play it every week and NOT planning on stopping anytime soon.

Almost every time i've logged into a splatoon, there has been a new update, such as a new gun, a new bomb, a new map, or something else fun to play with. This game never seems to end, with new content coming out every week or so, and this gave the game a 96 to 97. The community of splatoon is very unique, very friendly and quirky, and makes the game that much greater. Things like splatfeast and other events splatoon provides to meet other splatoon players and have a fun time, makes the game a very fun community experience. The graphics are very fresh, the designs of the characters are very creative, everything in this game feels and looks so original and unique, you can't help but love it. The gameplay itself is unlike any other game. It's a shooter, just like call of duty or battlefield, but makes it unlike any other. Seriously, who else would of thought to make guns of full of ink, full out territory wars using squirds as soldiers instead of men with rifles. This is a very fun game, and is unlike any other game you've played before and it needs your attention just like many other games on the wii u that go unnoticed… Expand

    - new (free!) content added nearly every other week keeps game fresh more than 6 months after release
    - short match length makes for addicting play sessions - "Just one more!"

    A con would be Splatoon's insistence on requiring the player to read all text prompts. Sometimes you just want to jump into a shop or right into game play and not have to mash A to get past a wall of text. It's picky but is in fact a nuisance. Ahora mismo el juego cuenta con una gran cantidad de mapas/armas/trajes. Es un juego que hay que probar.

My only complaint is more of a nitpick, but the single player stuff in the game is very underwhelming as the story mode last around 4 to 6 hours and the local multiplayer I half the time forget about. As the core focus of the game is multiplayer though, it's good to see the devs were able to focus on that main aspect. Multiplayer is also a ton of fun with four modes to play and a ton of maps. The regular battle mode Turf War is short, simple, and can be played whenever. The other three modes Splat Zones, Tower Control, and Rainmaker, can be played in ranked depending on which are chosen. The few problems with multiplayer are a lack of voice chat between friends and the choice to choose which modes and maps you play on. Those are set on a four hour rotation and if you don't get the maps or mode you care for then the only thing to do is wait, which can be annoying. Voice chat not being in the game makes sense since it is meant for children, but talking between friends would make sense as games like Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros Wii U have been able to do this. In the end, with the constant free updates of new weapons and maps to boot, Splatoon is an enjoyable experience just built around pure fun. It is easily one of my favorite games of this year and a must buy if you have a Wii U. And just cause it seems mandatory, TL;DR Splatoon is good. Go play it.… Expand

    The game does not focus on getting kills a whole lot, but instead on inking turf with your weapons.

    I will write a list of things I like/dislike instead of rambling on and on like I was writing a book.

    + The music is great
    + Graphics and visuals are great
    + Gameplay is fun and addicting
    + Very unique and different weapons.
    + Very easy to play, but a bit harder to properly master, making it very fun.
    + Squid transformation gives so many approach options and is fun for sneaking around.
    + So many weapon types like:
    Shooters (basically small machineguns)
    Chargers (Basically chargeable snipers)
    Sloshers (Buckets you use to throw ink, wait what?)
    splatlings (Gatling guns)
    Brushes & Rollers (Melee esque weapons that should be self explainatory)
    + Many unique maps
    + Events called splatfests that happen once in a while
    + Fun singleplayer that teaches you a bit about the multiplayer
    + Really good boss designs

    Now come the negatives I found
    ¨- Map rotation is dumb (basically 2 maps per 2 hours)
    - Not having the ability to leave a lobby if you accidently click continue
    - Having to leave a lobby to switch weapons (not a problem in squad/private matches)
    - Needing the amiibo to get extra arcade minigames for waiting for a lobby.
    - Being punished if you lose connection during ranked (you lose rank points)
    - Having to listen to the squid sisters every time you start the game.

    there are more things, but I won`t write it in this review.
    Despite the negatives, this game gets a 9.6 from me, I really like it, it gets addicting if you keep winning, and trying to rank up in ranked mode can be really frustrating.    … Expand

    The 4 vs 4 feels right for the size of the scenarios, and 3 minutes is right. If you want to have it more strategic, and more play time (usually), competitive mode becomes a must to play, where you find all the fun on this game. The variety of weapons is HUGE and still increasing over time, and the amount of scenarios finally reached a decent amount by the time I wrote this review. Definitely a game you must get if you own a WiiU, and I hope that this gets a sequel on WiiU (with an online mode that allow two persons in a same console to join a match in split-screen)    … Expand

Vale su precio eso si no es perfecto tiene fallos que lo hace imperfectos como pocos mapas y modos. (Importante: lo único realmente bueno del juego es su online)

    Splatoon is a great game. The only main problem with this game is that most MMORPGs, that the game gets harder to level up pass level 10 to max level online. Leveling up costs a lot of time consumption. This makes me wants to quit the game right away and gives me a feeling that I had wasted my time playing this game online like most MMORPGs I ever played.

Amiibo support is great by not really giving you an unfair advantage at all. And the multiplayer is always fresh and varied. Yes there are not many modes but it is always different. Nintendo has kept the this game going with a stream of new FREE DLC for months on end. My only gripe with the game is the ranking system can be a little broken sometimes pairing you with really good players when you are a low rank. For example there is no way you can quit lobby which sucks a little bit, due to the reason that if you wait for a ranked battle and you have to leave, the only way you can do it is by closing completely the system and losing about 10 points. Last but not least, the weakest spot in Splatoon is matchmaking. I am level 29 and rank A-. When i want to play ranked it puts me with players that are 45-50 level which is really frustrating since they have more experience in the game than i do. Overall the game is good and if you have a wii u then you should definitely buy, even in 2016. The splatfests might be over which kinda sucks since i didn't get the chance to experience them but still there are a lot of things to do.… Expand

    At first I was skeptical about this game, but first demo test fire event convinced me how good this game is. I've completed all the missions and have all the weapons and gear, but that doesn't diminish my enjoyment. Bought it on 1st day and I'm still playing it. That's how good this game is.

    This is a very fun game. In fact, this game is one of the best games on the Wii U. When it first came out it was one of the few games that had me hooked on it for over 6 months, it was literally that fun. This was meant to be Nintendo's first multiplayer third person shooter and it was both very innovative and enjoyable.

    One of Nintendo's best IPs. I think it has alot of work put into it, and shows the prowess of the new blood working at Nintendo. A few things bug me about the game, like the lack of voice chat. After playing TF2, I totally understand why they wouldn't include that, because of those damn squeakers and 12 year olds. However, I still would've liked the option.

    Overall, it's a pretty nice game.

    With the fun and intense multiplayer, a passive single player, and the entertaining world of Inkopolis, Splatoon delivers an entertaining package worth your time and energy. Where Splatoon falls short, it makes up for it in multiplayer. This game is fun and entertaining. If you own a Wii U, you need to own Splatoon.

    Splatoon might be the most underrated franchise of this generation. Nintendo brings their trademark flair and charm to the shooting genre and injects it with fun and personality in a way that only they can. The game launched a little bare-bones but was well supported with updates, additions, and events through time. Splatoon is a powerful addition to Nintendo's pantheon of franchises.

    Un juego bastante entretenido con un nuevo aire en su debut en los vídeo juegos, se siente un nuevo juego y original, qusisas al principio es difícil acostumbrar al control pero en un par de minutos lo habrás dominado, lo único que carece es de un modo historia mas profundo y en si la historia que cuenta muy pobre, pero es un juego que disfrutaras de inicio a fin.

It's actually my favourite fps.     The basis around the game is that you are a squid-human hybrid, called an inkling, competing in your favourite sport which is ink battling and defending your people from the invading octolings who are an octopus-human hybrid and their leader D.J Octavio. Octolings and inklings have been at war for many years.

    Online there is 2 modes which are ranked battles and regular battles which are ranked battles and regular battles. In a regular battle, you and your team (3 other players), compete against the opposing team, who also have 4 players, to cover as much ground as possible in your ink. The team with the most ground covered wins.

    In a ranked battle, only accessible at level 10, you will either have to transport the rainmaker, cover the splatzones or ride the tower. When transporting the rainmaker, your team have to carry the rainmaker to the opponent's goal and, if no team reaches either goal, the team who got closest wins. When covering splatzones, your team have to cover the splatzones, an specific area on the map, in your own ink for 100 seconds and if no team holds them for 100 seconds then the team to held the splatzones for the longest time wins. When riding the tower, your team have to cover the tower in your own ink and ride it to the opponent's goal and if no team reaches the goal then the team who got closest wins. When you win a match, you are awarded with experience points and in-game cash. There is also an offline single player mode where you fight of the octolings.

    There are also other buildings in the hub world where you buy clothing and weapons.

    The graphics on Splatoon, much like other Wii U titles, are phenomenal and this can be seen when swimming through ink. The battle system in the game is also very fun and addictive. You may also customise your inkling by selecting it's gender, eye colour, skin tone and clothing, as previously mentioned. However, you may not choose your inkling's hair colour as it is determined by the colour of your ink and this means that every inkling is different.

    The control scheme is also very easy to use and understand. L stick to move, R stick to alter the camera angle, X to jump, ZR to turn into a squid, ZL to use the weapon, up/down buttons to say 'Nice!' or 'To me!' and the touchscreen to jump to other players.

    The online connection is also very good and it rarely losses connection.

    There are also some minor issues as well. One issue is the single player mode. The single player mode is very enjoyable but it is quite short only lasting for a couple of hours in total. Another small problem is the lack of voice chat in-game and the closest to voice chat is the use of the up/down buttons as previously mentioned. The last problem is the inability to swap weapons while waiting for other players in the lobby. To change weapons, you have to leave the lobby and re-enter another lobby which can be a hassle.

    Despite the problems, Splatoon is an excellent game that I would advise any Wii U owner to buy.    … Expand

    Splatoon is an all-time classic game. It has great music, great controls, and fun gameplay! You can even scroll your camera to get the right angle! This game has everything right. However, if you need a certain weapon during a battle, you can't switch between items. But hey, this was my first game I ever owned. So generally, it's a great game

    its a coloerful online third person shooter game white a good camping. My conplains is when you play co op, you can only play 1v1 and sho tballons. but the online and singel player is good.

    The reason I only give it a seven is because it takes me so long to get into a match at the very start.

    It also comes with a main campaign that is mostly a tutorial for many mechanics, although some of them seem missing from the online play which is the game's main core, the campaign is short but well crafted, it can be a little repetitive by the end but that's it, is more in the vein of good Mario Galaxy levels, merge it with killer music and you'll have a good time.

    As I mentioned at first, sadly there are some drawbacks, as much addictive the online matches can get, at some time they become a little repetitive because of the maps, the mechanic goes as follows: every day you can fight randomly on 4 available maps, 2 for regular battles and other 2 for ranked battles (which you can get when you hit level 10), in regular battles you have to ink (paint) most of the map before the time goes out and as you fight the other team, on ranked battles the mechanic is more or less like capture the flag, but instead you have to take the flag to the enemy base, it needs more strategy but it is also really fun. The thing is that there are a limited amount of maps and playing them on extended sets of time becomes a little tiresome, I'm also not a big fan of the equipment system, every set of gear has 1 to 4 slots with random abilities that you'll unlock after getting experience points, the random part it feels more like a time trap to maintain you attached to the game, it seems unfair because that is more like a mechanic in a free to play game, and also the game is so much fun that it doesn't need those gimmicks to maintain you entertained so I hope in the next game, they fix this system. Another issue is the character customization, you can only change your character's tone skin and eye color, but no extra haircuts or anything, so your character will look pretty much the same if you don't spice things up with your clothing.

    Aside from the things that I didn't like, playing Splatoon took me back to my childhood where basic things can be really fun with friends, speaking of friends, I couldn't play with anyone because none of my friends have a Wii U, also, the Splatfests which apparently were a big thing at the game's launch now were pretty dead, so I don't know how much they add to your experience. In some years the servers will go down, and the only thing that will be playable will be the main campaign, if you're someone from the future and you're in fact looking to play this game for its single-player mode I say go ahead if you find this game on the cheap, otherwise maybe you can stick with whatever numbered Splatoon is currently available.    … Expand

    There’s nothing else quite like it, nor the cathartic dopamine jolt to be had when you squid-skim up a paint-smeared quarter pipe, an Inkzooka at the ready, leap over the edge, take aim with your weapon, and reduce a startled opponent to goo.

    We waited a bit before giving a vote to Splatoon, but after three months, the game is full of new weapons, has some awesome new modes, and it's still really, really fun. It's a WiiU killer app, one of those games that are not only extremely original, but so well made they utterly deserve a big and supporting community. If you have a WiiU and want an atypical shooter, this is the game for you.

    Please don’t just look at the score and “meh” Splatoon, because this online shooter is the best thing that happened to Wii U in a long time. It just needs some major updates, because on arrival it’s just 75% of The Game of the Year. [09/2015, p.46]
