You probably know that this game is a shooter where your main objective is to splatter the other person's territory with ink. Pros:
+ AMAZING IDEA that is implemented very well
    + Customization
+The game's online runs at a gorgeous 60 frames/sec and has little to no lag
+ Fun and addicting Story Mode
    +Addicting as all heck
    +The music is AMAZING
    +Controls are absolutely brilliant
    +Great Central Hub
    +Shop Keepers
+Squid Kids are a interesting and great idea
+Enemy Designs and Bosses are absolutely INK- CREADIBLE

    Cons (most are minor things)
    - No Voice Chat (although it would have been great to have, It didn't make too much of a difference in my opinion)
    - Lack of content on release (will gain more in the form of free DLC)
    - The signal player is super short
    - The Squid Sisters (Basically they tell you the maps every 2 hours or when you boot up the game... It gets really annoying and there should totally be a skip option)
    - Bland local player
    - It's annoying that you cannot customize your Squid person when in the lobby
    - NO GAMEPAD ONLY PLAY (This is more personal because my T.V looks like **** so I will not deduce points for this)

    Neutral:
=Decently long loading times in which you can play a mini game

    Final comment:

This game is extremely fun and is addicting as all hell. The online is INK-mayzing and the signal player is a work of art. Unfortunately, the bland local mode, lack of modes/ stages altogether(on launch), lack of voice chat , short single player and other minor details SPLAT on my enjoyment of this game, and stopped what could have been the best Nintendo game of the decade. That being said, this game is still amazing and will PAINT the way for it's predecessors to walk on.

Quite simply, this is a third-person shooter that my girls can play. If we never have another violent, war-based shooter, I won't miss a thing. About time someone thought of something else, and not only that, did it way better that anyone could have expected. It's fun and compelling, it's as simple as that. Highly recommended.

Splatoon will be hard to make a sequel to, has a very interesting point to be made and allows those who are not especially good at shooters to at least have fun. Something which COD does not do well, and when Activision tries to do something new and Innovated with the 12 year old IP, You all hate it. For once the reason to own a Wii U is no longer Mario and crew, its cooler than that. Way cooler. Splatoon Has 4 Vs. 4 in reasonably sized maps. Leaves the chose and how you like the way the operate to the user. It allows you to become better over time and leaves the Strategy better than Team Deathmatch. Also the Single Player is More rewarding to play in Splatoon. So here (for once) the problem is not the game. It is the consumer. which has always been the Problem with Developers (they can't please everyone). In fact, I own Black Ops 2 on my Wii U and i have found Splatoon (although lacking in Game modes for now) considerably more fun. I also find Games like this to have a more enjoyable than those who have been recycled over a million times. This game pleases those who are relatively new to gaming as well as those who have been playing video games for over 15 years. Expand

i could go on an on about this game. but it would all boil down to this simple answer... the game is fun and i like it! that is all you need to know. that is all anyone needs to know! and if a person has similar tastes as you do... then you would do good to try the game atleast once! this will get a 10 from me.

I bought this game thinking I could play online with my friend but there was no way to send a game invite or join his game. Not that it would matter because the game does not even feature voice chat. Online games are short and shallow, it feels like baby's first fps. I do not recommend this game at all and am returning it to the store tomorrow.

So much fun! Can't wait until they add more content, but there's plenty to keep me busy for now. Voice chat definitely isn't needed in a game like this and the amiibo unlock a lot of content too. This game makes the best use of amiibo so far compared to other games they're used in. Can't wait to see what nintendo does with this franchise in the future!

Splatoon does a very good job at doing what it was meant to do, entertain. The game in its current state is by no means perfect, missing several features and modes and although Nintendo promises to add them in later it doesn't change the fact.

The game lacks a voice chat which varies in severity depending on the person, and although done with well intentions, there were other possible solutions to the voice chat situation. The game lacks a polished multiplayer, with several features missing, although the multiplayer is admittingly fun. The game's multiplayer encouraged strategy but really did not do much to support that other than giving a map on the pad.

The game isn't bad, quite the contrary. It's amazingly enjoyable. The multiplayer is addictive and quick, which helps get around the absence of voice chat. The game encourages strategy although not as much as I would like. The single player is very entertaining and enjoyable allowing you to bond with and understand the world of Splatoon. Which is very vibrant and beautifully designed. The game is great, but has the possibilities to become spectacular when updated. I would recommend the game.

The game at the moment sits at about a 7-8 for me, but with future support and events I give it a 9. Please don't allow the other commenters who give this game a 0 or 1 for no voice chat. No game is perfect (and by no means is this game perfect) but giving a game a zero for a missing feature is absurd. If they give it a low score allow them to support their argument but don't believe them for simply disliking one feature and then disregarding the entire game. Even better, you could form own opinion by playing the game, which is what I recommend for everyone.

Honestly though, this is a good step for Nintendo and hopefully they will learn to improve upon, as it is always difficult to enter a new area in gaming for any company.

Nintendo has nailed the shooting genre. If you think shooting game won't be for kids to grandpa ever, you are wrong! Splatoon is surprisingly fun to every age. Besides, it's not about 'killing' your enemy. It's about painting the levels to your paint color. This is where only Nintendo could done it. Unique game strategy concept indeed.

A truly spectacular, enjoyable game worthy of a 10/10, albeit with one HUGE issue: the lack of voice chat. This is new and has revitalized the shooter genre for me. Also, thank you Nintendo for leaving out voice communication. It kills my online gaming experience these days. Cant wait for the updates!

Amazing game. A fresh wind for shooters, 1 of a kind. Easy to get into but it takes real skill to master. Lots of tacktics and customization options, unique weapon. Single player is somewhat short but of a high quality. Multiplayer will keep you occupied for a long time, especially considering the game will get (free) additional content on a regular basis.

"0/10 No Voice Chat" -idiots. Voice Chat would entail the disgusting, disrespectful, moronic kids of Miiverse, but now they'd be unavoidable. If you haven't used Miiverse, trust me, you DO NOT WANT THAT! Nintendo's social network is plagued with children who still make Shrek jokes and fail to spell simple words or use basic grammatical skills. If you played the testfire, you'd know communication is rarely needed. People do what they do and they do it right. You only lose because your teammates are skill-less, not because you can't command them, and if you could, they'd disobey you because that's the kind of people who use Miiverse.
Another issue that would be a cause of voice chat is lag and unfair bans. The connection would suffer if they added such, preventing the game from staying a silky smooth 60fps. Nintendo would monitor all calls and ban anyone who says anything slightly rude or spouts a mild cuss world, which will be a common occurrence in the heat of battle.
And has anyone here used the Smash Bros. lobby voice chat? I talked to someone in the same state as me, and we both have strong a connection, but the audio was horrible quality and it was almost impossible to understand each other. The Wii U is not made for voice chat.

I did not write this review for the score. For now, i'll leave it at a 10 to counter the moronic scores below a 7/10.

Yeah it doesnt have the chat option but you can pretty much look at the map on your screen to know how much of it you still need to ink, its not about the number of kills, you dont need to co-ordinate kill tactics. You can only use the gamepad in online mode also but you can turn the gyro off if you prefer, so its no big deal.I have just played two maps online and can say this is awesome. I definitely recommend this game, you'll get more enjoyment out of it than COD. I found the more ground you lose the more determined you are to win it back, the last few seconds can get intense. You'll definitely come back for more. I traded COD in after a bit but this is definitely for keeps. With more maps and other upgrades on the way, the game will get even better.

We waited a bit before giving a vote to Splatoon, but after three months, the game is full of new weapons, has some awesome new modes, and it's still really, really fun. It's a WiiU killer app, one of those games that are not only extremely original, but so well made they utterly deserve a big and supporting community. If you have a WiiU and want an atypical shooter, this is the game for you.
