A racing game that punishes you for driving at full speed. Now I've seen everything.

Obviously, this game is supposed to be reminiscent to a racing game made in the Nintendo 64 era. That's not a bad idea by itself. I welcome games that try to reflect on past generations. The problem with Midtown Crazy Race is that although this looks like a N64 game, it plays a hell of a lot worse than

The summary says that this game has realistic physics, which would be true if real life cars go ape **** at the slightest of bumps. The only way you will get anywhere in this game is to not even try driving at full speed. And don't be fooled by a straight road, either. No matter where you are, there will always be a blocky tip on the road. If you speed over it, your car will start spinning like a **** twister. So no, "realistic" physics don't work for a game like this.

Another problem is that this game seems to steal from the 14 years older Midtown Madness 1 and 2. Everything is similar. Open world, checkpoint race, a half-assed day/night function, even the title has Midtown in it. I'm surprised that this doesn't have the cops as well. Then again, adding cops would break the already thin ice. The stolen ideas wouldn't be so bad if this game worked well, but it doesn't.

The only thing in this game that seems to be different is the music, which is just... meh. It's not good, it's not bad, just... meh.

So nice try, Jose, but this game doesn't deliver.

This game attempts to recreate the classic arcade racers of the late 1990s but ends up being a mediocre and lackluster effort with its only 1990s elements being the quality of the visual environment, which is visibly outdated.

It's embarrassing, but given the fact that the free version on mobile devices actually has multiplayer modes when the Wii U doesn’t, there’s absolutely no reason to waste your money on this.

Midtown Crazy Race is an overly disappointing game. With controls that a majority won’t enjoy and game modes that are not very inspiring, it is hard sell for any Wii U owner.
