Made it through all the basic art lessons. It focuses on theory as well as technique. Choice of paint, charcoal, pastels and pencils gives the app a lot of creative options. I must say this has been one of the most enjoyable and educational products i have ever used on a console.

This is more of a learning program than a game, although there are some playful elements like uploading your drawings to social media. The lessons are very informative and teach you how to use the various tools provided. I found the pencil lessons very useful as I never knew exactly how to use them in a practical way as the softness and hardness provide different techniques. I would almost say this is a perfect teaching tool because it also has a tactile feeling with the sounds the pencil makes on the paper, however sometimes the shading can be tricky and not so precise, often over powered and when you go to erase it goes completely white. The smudger is also very tricky to use, as expected this is digital drawing and harder to control than in reality, but does teach you the techniques. Expand

I've gone through all of the lessons and was surprised with how much It focuses on art theory to go with everything else. There are a LOT of mediums to choose from, which give a huge variety, and it all works extremely smoothly. This was very educational and useful, and I'm glad i picked it up.

If you have children who are aspiring artists, this game is a must have. I would say it is the best educational game I have ever played, period. I am AMAZED by what my kids are learning and then applying to their art classes -- so much so that I started picking up the game the other night and I think I have found a new hobby. This is quality of life gaming at its finest.

If you make art in any skill level, this is a good title to download, it will teach you things you may already know and even things you may not know and you might even learn a few things.

No worries though, if you don't feel like being tutored, you're free to go ahead and do your thing. When you're done, be sure to post to Miiverse, you might even get popular!

The tutorials alone are worth the price of entry. [Issue #16 – July/August 2015, p.24]

More software than game, Art Academy: Home Studio is an enjoyable experience with infinite replayability. Regardless of your artistic skill, it will teach you a thing or two and give you a nice creative outlet to express yourself with its expansive toolset.

The abundance of options available at your fingertips is very cool, and the ability to share couldn't be easier, save for direct posting to social networks – but we'll make do with what we have.
