So long as you have a dream in your heart, there's nowhere to run. But if you go through the doors and explore what's beyond, you just might have a chance...

Play as a young girl as she explores the mysterious and unreal world of her dreams. Start off with no story or guide, as you experience the different worlds of her dreams, each one deeply shrouded in mystery.

Run from the monsters that chase you, discover how to use the items you find, and solve the puzzles you come across to find clues to the mysteries scattered around you.

There are 7 doors that exist within the dream, from which you can freely go through to different worlds as many times and in whatever order you like. Discovering where the worlds are connected and what happens between them may be the key that brings you closer to your goal.

An homage to the original Yume Nikki, created by indie game developer Kikiyama on RPG Maker and released in 2004, this reimagining has been made with the permission, cooperation, and supervision of the original creator. This time created with 3D graphics and a new game system, while still retaining the feel of the original world and characters.

Yume Nikki: Dream Diary is a morbid, and profoundly engaging journey into a frontier rarely seen in games. It mostly succeeds with its concepts, and while the visuals might turn off most people, those who get accustomed to them will appreciate just how effective they are at creating a strong uncanniness to its atmosphere. While there is no excuse for some of the technical flaws or control issues, the overall design is strong enough to carry the weight and suck people into this spiralling descent into madness. It has a great replay value, with alternate endings and even a couple of mini-games within the core game.

Yume Nikki: Dream Diary aims to become the spiritual successor of the legendary horror game of the same name while trying to adapt to the new times. However, it offers a rather short and forgettable experience.

It's not a complete remake of the original game, so don't expect a tit-for-tat copy - though it does stand well on its own. There are some effects that I got that I haven't seen explained in the playthroughs, so make sure to explore and experiment further than what you're told! Expand

What I got however, was a poorly designed and buggy game, which I honestly couldn't bring myself to finish. The only thing this game shares with the original is the soundtrack. Even the starting area was stripped of one of the only two interactions from the original. The levels are incredibly boring and unpolished, I fell into the void multiple times.
If you loved the original, I suggest you stick to the fanmade content instead, unless you're ready for a handful of disappointment.
