Floaty controls, slow bullets and no sense of direction makes for a bad game. I got this game for two bucks and I still feel ripped off. You want a good Metroid clone, pick up Axiom Verge instead.

Unfortunately, this level puts you against an overly difficult boss right off the bat. So hard, that you often wonder if you are on the wrong planet. After finally beating that boss, you get thrown in to even more crazy hard areas. Not only was it unforgiving with difficulty, but the lack of any real direction given made the game just not fun. Given the poor graphics, I can't recommend this metroidvania style game. You're much better off with Hollow Knight or Chasm if you're trying to scratch that itch. Expand

The game is on the shorter side, but the price is fair. If you are a fan of Metroidvania’s and harder games, check it out.

Legit the only bad Metroidvania I've ever played. The jump is way too high and way too floaty with no way to short hop which leads to a lot of times accidentally jumping on a platform you don't want to be on when fighting enemies, a bunch of otherwise easy enemies that take way way too many bullets to kill, the ship controls are garbage, super linear for a "Metroidvania",gun sucks andLegit the only bad Metroidvania I've ever played. Its just a **** game. If you want a good cheap Metroidvania on Switch play Spooky Ghost Dot Com, or if you're willing to spend a bit more then try Hollow Knight, the greatest Metroidvania ever created. But under no circumstances should you get this one. Expand

This game feels like a classic Gameboy game and I enjoyed playing it. It reminds of Metroid 2 in particular. I 100%ed this game and enjoyed playing it from beginning to end.

While I do understand that Xeodrifter was developed by a very small team, I'd still say it's not worth the 9,99€ price tag, because it can be beaten in about 8 hours and easily much faster if you know what you're doing. By having 4 separate planets and a ship hub the game does arguably make the world feel much bigger than it actually is, because the four different worlds actually amount to 2 areas in Super Metroid. The bosses are also all the same (even the final boss, sorry to burst your bubble) and while the bullet upgrades are satisfying to collect the other upgrades aren't that interesting and/or unique.
If you're really bored, sure, buy it, but if you're a broke boy like myself then I wouldn't recommend purchasing this.

I love this game.... I bought it because it looked like a retro game and oh boy it is. The game while a little short is very difficult and fun. I could see myself trying to beat this game twice. The only problem I have with it is that the bosses need more designs and more attacks.

I decided I didn't play enough indy games and wanted to play a cool metroidvania, so I looked around, and bought this. Wish I didn't.

It's meant to be a metroidvania, but I spent a lot of the game just pushing forward in one direction, getting killed, and trying again until I got past it. Metroid fusion's difficulty made for a really fun experience, but this didn't. At one point, I had just beaten a boss, and while I had a checkpoint, I was unable to save until I got past a very tough location. I kept dying, and getting set back to the checkpoint. I couldn't give up and go do something else, because then I'd have to beat the boss again. Eventually I just left my switch on and went to do something else, since I was just done. There was one point in this entire game I felt like I was having some good action and exploration and REAL FUN, good fun too. I spoiled most metroid games for myself before playing them, so it was fresh. I'd had some slight fun for other parts of the game, but that part was the only time I had real fun. But that was the only time, it was pretty short, and after that I got stuck again and finally gave up. If it weren't for that part though I'd be giving it a lower score. Good to know that seeing these reviews, it was the games fault not mine. Would not recommend.

It's a simple and cute metroidvania. I enjoyed it. Fun if you want a simple go at a popular genre. It's great to get on sale.

Xeodrifter certainly won’t be for everyone. The title harkens back to the days of 8-Bit gaming in not only its graphics, but also its approach to difficulty. The challenge is certainly steep, but the accompanying sense of accomplishment should please many old school purists.

Overall, Xeodrifter is a blast. It’s a simple game that is held up by its unique upgrades, great music, and brilliantly crafted exploration-based gameplay. If you’ve got an extra $10 lying around, I highly recommend Atooi’s latest Switch release.

There are some neat ideas in Xeodrifter, but they never come together to make a coherent whole.
