    An absolute must play. Beautiful graphics, music, and gameplay. Words don't do the story justice. A truly spectacular game.

    Game could have been good, if it didn't resort to cheap enemy cheats. Lazy designed bosses that just run through your ranks and dodge every shot you throw at them. Its just not fun.
    If you buy this, be prepared to reload certain missions often and waste hours on un-fun bosses.

    Valkyria Chronicles seemed like a perfect turn based strategy for me. I just couldn't get though the game though due to the art design and grinding.

    Pros: - Awesome concept for a strategy game by mixing top level down to individual units - The presentation and the way it taught you to play were good Cons: - Art design and story were not to my liking - Not a big fan of strategy    Valkyria Chronicles seemed like a perfect turn based strategy for me. I just couldn't get though the game though due to the art design and grinding.

    Pros:
    - Awesome concept for a strategy game by mixing top level down to individual units
    - The presentation and the way it taught you to play were good

    Cons:
    - Art design and story were not to my liking

    Very good game, and much cheaper than V4 which came out about the same time.
    Some of the missions are more puzzle than strategy (The massive enemy tank) and probably requires some grinding in skirmish mode to get your troops up to a level where beating this one is going to work.     I picked this up after Tim Rogers recommended it and I was blown away. I wanted a strategy game to tide me over until fire emblem three houses released and this was just so perfect.
    The art style really holds up incredibly well and the missions become increasingly more intense. I came to care about my squad a great deal as a result. I'm proud to say I didn't lose a single soldier.

    The story was also quite fantastic and it had a great ending too.
    For only twenty dollars this is such a great 30 hour rpg. I couldn't recommend it enough. It seems to be a hidden gem sadly. I hope more people get into this series and we see more entries. I'm playing valkyria chronicles 4 at the moment and so far it's also excellent :).    … Expand

    La primera entrega de esta saga, cuando la comparamos con la 4º, se nota más "primitiva", con personajes secundarios más simples y menos clases, pero aún así igual de buena, sin apenas notarsele mucho las costuras. Ambas entregas son muy recomendables, y creo que decidir en cuál es mejor será más preferencia de cual historia te haya gustado más, más que otra cosa.

    For a change, I don't have much to say here other than this is a masterpiece. If you don't like stategy, you won't like this. Imagine playing chess in 3D with a different scenario each time, if that sounds like your cup of tea then you will love Valkyria Chronicles. The game is beautifully presented and I played it in original language, so if there is any of the usual, terrible voiceFor a change, I don't have much to say here other than this is a masterpiece. If you don't like stategy, you won't like this. Imagine playing chess in 3D with a different scenario each time, if that sounds like your cup of tea then you will love Valkyria Chronicles. The game is beautifully presented and I played it in original language, so if there is any of the usual, terrible voice acting these games have, I didn't hear it. I have played some of VC4 in English and the voice acting was terrible American rubbish.

    Fhe only thing I have played that I can liken this to for how it plays is Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn. If you like that tough strategy vibe then this is for you. If you are someone that is impatient, regularly fails exams, or is as thick as two short planks, then your enjoyment here is probably very limited.

    I have read some reviews mentioning grinding. It has been a while since I played but I don't recall grinding in this game.

    Super impressive game. Will never feel dated, as it is just too good in the gameplay department.

    It looks really beautiful and I am not a fan of pastil style, washed out graphics but here it just works.

    It can seem like some of the levels are designed to never be beaten. I remember playing the same level a few times and getting obliterated but then I spotted a different approach and it worked.    … Expand

    I loved the art, gameplay mechanics and the story of this game. Once you figure out the best potentials and orders to build your team ideally all of the challenges become manageable.

    Suka sama story pendeknya.. bisa juga lihat animenya sebagai tambahan referensi. Banyak event" yang mengenang.. builtnya bagus slow pace dari awal dimana kamu awalnya benci sama salah satu karakter hingga mulai berkembang dan menjadi suka. Dan yang paling bikin sedih disini Isara mak.. Isara (╥﹏╥)

    Gameplay 9/10
    Suka turn based strategi gini.. ada order dan potensial buat mempermudah pergerakan, save game sebelum mulai melangkah, grade turn yang harus dipenuhi untuk dapat rank tinggi serta exp dan duct banyak. Mungkin kedepannya bisa dipadukan antara Valkyria Chronicles 1 dan 2 jadilebih enak untuk fast summonnya ga perlu nunggu 1 turn. Sound 8.5/10
    Yah lumayan aja.. berasa pas bgm dan battlenya.. cuman openingnya udah bagus tapi ga ada lagunya. Pengen kayak Valkyria Chronicles 3 begitu ada lagu openingnya. SFX udah mantep sih. Voice act untuk versi japan udah bagus.. saat rosie nyanyi juga pas banget.

    Switch Limitation Hardware .. ya saya tahu itu .. resolusinya ga terlalu bagus tapi masih enjoyable buat portable tapi kalau di dock meh aja. Tapi fitur video capturenya bisa diimplementasikan dengan baik tidak seperti Valkyria Chronicles 4 di switch tidak bisa screen maupun video capture.

    I've played this game since PS3 and I bought it again on switch. Feels nostalgic.

    It's one of the most unique tactical strategy game and it still holds pretty well even a decade later.

    One thing to complaint about is the port to switch is pretty unstable. Too many FPS drop and it's a complete drop like probably around 10 FPS.

It’s not about adapting to your situation, it’s about knowing the cheese for each battle and exploiting it. You have several classes to use but 90% battles just require you to exploit one class.

    There are also several things that show how dated the mechanics of this 1. Battle scores are calculated based on how many turns are used. Not how many enemies you take out, how many of your troops survive, etc. Its all about how many turns you take, which goes back to my earlier point of cheesing the game. You are actively discouraged to play the game the way it was played because you’re scored this way.

    2. Random movement. You are given no indication how far your people can move before they start moving, leading you to often miscalculate your movement and end up stuck in the open because you missed a barrier by a few centimetres 3. The in game save option is heavily abused. You often end up reloading just before a turn because you randomly end up being killed by unforeseen circumstances or because your characters randomly miss shots. Even guides for this game tell you to exploit saving and reloading before your turn ends.

    4. No in game option to quit. When the battle outcome can often be screwed up in your very first turn, it is ridiculous that there is no in game option to restart a battle

    5. Tedious enemy movement. You’ll often be outnumbered 3x1 and you have to watch each pig your enemies move, which takes an incredibly long time. This game’s mechanics are absolutely **** You’ll find yourself spending the majority of the game just reloading turn after turn to make up for the game’s poor design.     Boring game. Maybe would have been fun in 1995 but in 2023 it’s just painful. Do yourself a favor take the money you were going to spend on this game and use it to buy a few bananas.

    Whether you’re fresh to the series or already experienced Valkyria Chronicles 4 on Switch earlier this year, it’s still worth checking out the original. What it might lack in visual polish it more than makes up for with a rich story, affable characters and satisfying and strategic gameplay. Here’s hoping we see the second and third game make the leap to Switch too.
