Not only is this hands down the funniest game I've ever played, its gameplay is super fun. Every scene feels fresh and new. The devs perfectly nailed what they were aiming for. Sure, you might die a few times, but that's part of the fun and challenge. Also, the switch is such a great platform for this kind of game.

The game consists of classic simplistic combat whereby you are stealthily knocking guards out left and right, with rudimentary and sometimes borderline stupid ai making it a somewhat enjoyable experience. The game does well to switch up this game play loop by throwing some curve balls such as sections surrounding a weapon gimmick needed to take down the next challenge. While its a very solid game, with plenty of enjoyable moments, fun boss fights one thing can be said: it's quite a frustrating experience. Jesse Fox (protagonist) can only take a few bullets/hits, moves quite slowly and also relies on limited supplies of items to make it to the next phase at times (e.g a number of grenades). You'll be finding yourself hitting a trial and error formula to making progress with even dialogue options at time causing game overs. Some abstract sections of the game also do little to point in the right direction, causing some abstract thinking making you frustratingly stuck. By the tail end of the game the humour and gameplay had (at least for me) outstayed their welcome, and was happy to finally see the credits roll. Good game, not great. Expand

"As someone who doesn’t have much experience with the Metal Gear franchise, I was pleasantly surprised that not only was the game a laugh-a-minute, but it also played extremely well too. I didn’t expect much from UnMetal, but I ended up getting everything. A fantastic game that I hope doesn’t go by UnNoticed."

The is a fine game with generally good play mechanics. I enjoyed the crafting of found items and wish they pushed this a little more - similar to Escapist. Things that they could have done better. The button controls were an utter mess. And some of the sequences, such as the mine field, were laboring and tedious - these moments feel the game is just wasting your time. I still have more to play. But would recommend to any diehard NES metal gear fan who likes dumb humor.

Do you miss Metal Gear? Do you want to play a really funny game? Are you ready to enjoy all bullsh*** Jesse Fox are about to tell you? So you have to play UnMetal! This is clearly a "Comedy Espionage Action" game that will make you laugh from beginning to end!
... and it's "Not A Hideo Kojima Game"

While we hardcore types love our games, that isn’t to say that when confronted with examples of the silliness we regularly accept without question we can’t have a good laugh. It’s in that spirit that UnMetal has been forged, aping the style, story, and tropiness of many classic games and movies only to then crap all over much of it… and if you’re like me that’s when hilarity ensues! It’s in that spirit that UnMetal has been forged, aping the style, story, and tropiness of many classic games and movies only to then crap all over much of it… and if you’re like me that’s when hilarity ensues! The action plays out to match the story your raspy-voiced anti-hero is sharing with his interrogator, trying to explain the events that led to his current incarceration. This setup is really the critical component in the game’s humor, with the interrogator regularly stopping everything to ask an obvious question or make a pointed observation about the ridiculousness of everything that just happened or was said. Obviously having its sights set primarily on the classic Metal Gear series, the gameplay is generally very retro and arcade-y in nature but just decent, it’s really the sense of humor and the game giving you room to be outrageous that elevates it all to a different level. Perhaps if you don’t have room to laugh at the forms of entertainment you enjoy this will be a wing and a miss, as may be the case if you’re unwilling to giggle at some of the more crass humor that the game revels in. That said, if your goal is to play along and be entertained, UnMetal stands out as a game filled with laughs that will keep you playing along just to set up the next joke.

UnMetal is a good homage to MSX Metal Gear and other 8-bit action games, with its own ideas. The game surprised us at every step you take thanks to its great story.

UnMetal puts a parody spin on the older Metal Gear games, while also being a competent mid-80s stealth title. Its reliance on its humour in both gameplay and writing will make it a chore for some, but a joy for others.

UnMetal is an incredible tribute to one of the greatest franchises in the medium. While the game pokes fun at the title and highlights flaws and silly elements, it’s clear that it is done with love and admiration for the series. Similar to how Mel Brooks lovingly rips Hitchcock apart in High Anxiety, UnEpic Fran does the same with Kojima. The varied gameplay and creative storytelling will keep you in hysterics throughout. Although some may find the retro gameplay a little grating, fans of Metal Gear and the stealth genre need to experience this side-splitting tactical espionage adventure.
