Apr 2, 2021The game won lots of prices, apparently for its theme. Unfortunately, the Switch version is a very bad port. It is near impossible to play because of the text size, which can't be adjusted.

Mar 29, 2023Instructive and accessible. Unfortunately, as is so often the case with such games, the gameplay and game mechanics suffer. Much is often explained too late and even then only insufficiently.
For the story (there is a pure story mode without challenges) nevertheless recommendable.

Jun 1, 2021Given that Through the Darkest of Times is built around telling a story, having obvious narrative problems — whether in terms of continuity, hamfistedness, or whatever — represents a bit of an issue. There are still some interesting ideas to be found here, and the setting alone makes it feel like few other games, but if you go in expecting something groundbreaking, you may find yourself disappointed.

Aug 18, 2020The writing in Through the Darkest of Times is evocative, powerful and poignant. Too often it's undermined by the game also having systems that contain the same kind of resource juggling and time management that we see in anime dating sims.
