Fantastic puzzle platformer that slowly increases in difficulty. Great minimalist look and a fantastic chiptune-esque soundtrack. Brilliant narration from Danny Wallace. Somehow it packs an emotional punch.

A charming story with surprising emotional depth considering the physical nature of the characters. Platforming feels immensely satisfying as each level increases in difficulty with well-designed puzzles. Combined with a great soundtrack and pleasantly minimalist visuals, Thomas Was Alone makes for a brief yet enjoyable indie title.

Interesting concept and puzzle solving. Fun to play through, but not really a fully engaging experience for me.

An absolutely lovely experience. For a game that features a cast of blocks and shapes, it is surprisingly complex and astonishingly emotional. Basic platforming and puzzle solving. Amazing narration. If you like games with shooting and killing, this isn't for you. Everyone else will have a memorable journey.

I recommend it to anyone interested in trying out a bit of indie gaming history, any fan of the science fiction genre, anyone who enjoys platformers, for those who enjoy short, sweet stories, and to everyone looking to see how anyone could make a bunch of rectangles a memorable part of my adolescence.

There is a genuinely heartfelt story to be told between the self-aware blocks of Thomas Was Alone, married with excellent visual and audio aesthetics. A puzzle game with a heart and soul? That’s a rarity.

Thomas Was Alone is a middling puzzle-platformer that overcomes its gameplay troubles by the sheer force of its charm.
