Great graphics and level design, great voice acting, great music, some very challenging puzzles… Highly recommended to Portal fans.

Clearly this was inspired by Portal, yes, but is that really such a bad thing? It feels, almost, like a prequel to the Portal games, before the portal gun was invented. Here you use a gun that can move energy orbs around to activate and deactivate equipment

Clearly this was inspired by Portal, yes, but is that really such a bad thing? It feels, almost, like a prequel to the Portal games, before the portal gun was invented. Here you use a gun that can move energy orbs around to activate and deactivate equipment to solve puzzles.

As with Portal there's a story to explain all of this enforced puzzle-solving, and the development team clearly worked very hard to create a compelling story based on The Trolley Problem. You may find yourself agreeing with either side: the AI or the humans.

One or two puzzles were strange though. One level I managed to bypass about 75% of and go straight to the end. I'm not convinced my solution was the one the designers had in mind, but it seemed the most obvious solution to me. Another level appeared to be impossible, but was ultimately solved by lobbing a cube across the level and just hoping it would land on a pressure plate. After about 5 attempts it worked. Inelegant, but it worked. I could see literally no other solution, but if that is the correct solution then I feel that is a very poorly designed level.

Still none of that detracted from my overall enjoyment of the game. The final puzzle was, in my opinion, ingenius. It took me longer than it should have done to see the solution but when I did I was blown away, both from a puzzle design perspective AND from a narrative perspective. There were also one or two side-puzzles I didn't manage to complete which I will have to return to in the future.

Overall a fantastic game and I would thoroughly recommend it to any puzzle genre fans.

Look, it's a knockoff Portal, right? It's fine. The story is kinda lame and predictable. The puzzles are decently fun. The quality of the port to Switch seems to be good. I didn't have any trouble with it except for some framerate stutters rarely. If you like Portal and you want something like Portal, then this is fine.

Though it can't compare with the likes of the Portal games, this first-person sci-fi puzzler at least still has a fun system that works, and the major twist that awaits in the middle completely threw me for a loop about how I view video game storytelling.

Pretty good puzzle game. I didn't find it very original, or very exciting, but overall, entertaining enough. The story gets more interesting towards the end, and improves the overall experience.

The Turing Test is first and foremost a first-person puzzler, but it’s also an experiment in unorthodox video game storytelling. You won’t struggle to finish, but your imagination will be in overdrive as you work your way through it.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with The Turing Test and have no complaints about it. I think it was a solid port from Square Enix Collective and it gives me hope for their future games that come to the Nintendo Switch. The puzzle gameplay is some of the best in the genre and it’s further enhanced by the creative level design. If you are looking to learn more about Alan Turing’s famous test or just simply want to add a puzzle game to your Nintendo Switch collection, The Turing Test is a no-brainer. Honestly, The Turing Test is one of the best puzzle games I’ve ever played! It is literally ‘out of this world’.

The Turing Test, despite being four years old, still holds up and makes for a perfect Nintendo Switch puzzler. The Portal influences hang on its sleeve, but the darker story, compelling dialogue, and engaging puzzles kept me hooked till the very end. It might run a little long in the tooth around the midway mark but, thankfully, it rebounds in the last act with a memorable finish. As a port, it’s remarkably polished on both the big and little screen. In a nutshell, The Turing Test is totally worth your time and money.
