    As a connoisseur of weirdo games I’ve seen a whole lot of different approaches to taking the ordinary and going in a completely different direction then normal but nothing quite like Procession to Calvary. Mechanically playing as a relatively simple point-and-click adventure, what absolutely sets it apart is its bizarre and somewhat Monty Python-esque visual style and sense of humor.As a connoisseur of weirdo games I’ve seen a whole lot of different approaches to taking the ordinary and going in a completely different direction then normal but nothing quite like Procession to Calvary. Mechanically playing as a relatively simple point-and-click adventure, what absolutely sets it apart is its bizarre and somewhat Monty Python-esque visual style and sense of humor. Tapping into the world of public domain to use classic paintings and stock music is a smart move, and doing things with that art that are completely unexpected and silly actually ends up being quite a bit of fun, even though undoubtedly it won’t suit everyones’ tastes. While it may not be a perfect experience, and only clocks in with a few hours of play time, Procession to Calvary is a sweet and weird treat that people who seek out unusual tastes should take the time to savor.

    PROS: AN "AUTHOR" GAME - Some indie game authors have a unique style that makes their games instantly recognizable. Joe Richardson, the author of this game, is one of them. We need more gamemakers like him.     PROS:

    AN "AUTHOR" GAME - Some indie game authors have a unique style that makes their games instantly recognizable. Joe Richardson, the author of this game, is one of them. We need more gamemakers like him.

    WEIRD AND FUNNY - I'm usually not a great fan of mixing historical settings with modern language and quirks, but I couldn't help laughing while I played this game. It comes across as a sincere, good-natured effort, like the author was having as much fun as you do.

    (MOSTLY) LOGICAL PUZZLES - The puzzles in The Procession to Calvary aren't generally hard, nor they require a lot of lateral thinking. However, they're usually just logical enough, and challenging enough, to be entertaining.

    CONS:

    ONE BADLY DESIGNED PUZZLE: I got stuck on the very last puzzle in the game. I consulted a walkthrough, only to find out that I'd done almost everything right, except for one badly clued specific action (or rather, lack thereof).

    NOT FOR EVERYONE: If the humor doesn't work for you (or, god forgive you, you're easily offended by nudity or religion jokes), then you might find this game distasteful or boring. Me, I was having a ball.    … Expand

    "The Procession to Calvary lives up to its glorious premise. It offers a great point and click adventure with superb Pythonesque humour and puzzles that make sense, even in this world of nonsense. It’s a damn shame that it’s over so quickly. I really hope to see more from Richardson on the Switch in the future!"

    Ordinarily I dislike playing point-and-click games on a console, but this was so hysterically funny I didn't care. This game is totally worth playing!

    I absolutely adored the art style and the way it mashes artistic paintings to become its own unique thing, instead of simply a reference or shorthand. The humor is probably the best writing I’ve experienced all year, but in true European fashion, it’s dark, dry, and very self-referential at times. While it does have a few shortcomings, including the way in which the game has been translated to Switch and its slow movement speed, The Procession to Calvary was a delight the entire time I played it. If you are a fan of point-and-click games or just want a short and funny experience, I’d recommend this game over any Renaissance art gallery.

    Following Four Last Things, Joe Richardson still used collage as a full creative process to compose visual sceneries from Renaissance paintings - an amazingly coherent blending of subtly animated visual elements - and produce absurd situations out of them. Hence The Procession to Calvary proves a radical work of arts, considering the extremely caustic, if not harshly crude humour, and the choice to cut literally the story short by characters' decapitations, with different endings as a result. Thus it depends on the player, often implicated through the fourth wall's breaks, to appreciate this decidedly subversive, personal production.

    Ultimately, The Procession To Calvary is one of the most amusing and unique video games we've played in some time on Switch, and if you're a fan of the genre, then it's absolutely worth your time.
