The Mims Beginning offers a humorous take on the god-like genre through Minions-esque characters, but a shallow story, rough graphics and performance, and basic strategy gameplay drag this title down through the depths of space.

God-like in intent but not in delivery, The Mims Beginning is not a game to spend your hard-earned time and money on. It does have some redeeming qualities, but not enough to overlook its shortcomings, of which there are many.

I played through the story mode, and there's a few key downfalls to the game mechanics that really hurt the game. First is that buildings can only be placed on perfectly flat land. Any minor bump or wrinkle in the terrain, and you can't place the building in that spot. Next, most of the abilities/spells and defensive buildings that should be there to help you with the monsters you encounter will also damage your Mims. While not completely and 100% unless, their functionality is greatly reduced by this. Finally, the AI for your Mims is horrible. I think they tried to make your Mims be comically bad at combat, but they didn't really pull off the comical part of it. They're just bad. On story stages where combat isn't a focus, you can mostly ignore this. However, when you comes to stages with a lot of combat, you can quickly get frustrated by the need to manually control your combat Mims. Full Review »
