    This game should particularly appeal to fans of „Judgment Day”. It plays well on nostalgia, briefly presenting the most important scenes from the film. However, it is too short, and the additional game modes only mask the growing monotony.

    Terminator 2D: No Fate isn't a long game, you can smash through it in about an hour, but like the movie itself, every time you play it you find something new and learn to appreciate it just a little bit more. Aside from one level that doesn't lend itself particularly well to being replayed, there's a lot here to go back for whenever you're feeling like a bit of Terminator. The game does lean on the licence a lot, so if you've no nostalgia for the series, you might just feel like you're missing out on something. I'll be back (for another run).

    Terminator 2D: NO FATE is a beautiful pixel-art homage that moves away from the traditional movie-licensed game formula and brings a more indie-inspired style to the classic portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Fast, nostalgic, and frenetic, the game falls short of delivering a deeper and longer-lasting experience to the classic, even while offering alternative endings.

    Terminator 2D: No Fate nails the feeling of a game that should have existed in the early ‘90s to coincide with the release of the film. It’s the kind of game that, had it released at that time, would have likely been revered as a great adaptation to this day. In 2025, it is still a strong retro adaptation of a beloved film, but it is not without some design annoyances that we’ve moved beyond.

    Terminator 2D : No Fate is a splendid 16/32-bits throwback, no doubt, but the very short runtime and lack of T-800 sequences are baffling while advertised modes and alternate scenarios end up very limited in scope. As a result, the 29,99€ price tag is tough to swallow in this economy and roster of regular releases.

    Interestingly, half of what makes Terminator 2D fun is its painstaking reproduction of the movie on which it’s based. Were it to have no relationship to a beloved IP, it would likely be criticised for its brevity, linearity, and general simplicity. Once fully beaten, you won’t likely return to it for anything except a nostalgia hit, but T2 fans and 16-bit diehards will feel well-served by its detailed reminiscence. A great deal of the game's charm is derived from its novelty factor, and it's that novelty, in conjunction with some clever ideas and impressive authenticity, that should inform your purchasing decision.

    In 1991, a great opportunity was missed: the opportunity to make an action game for home consoles that captured the immense potential offered by the Terminator 2 license. But at long last, Bitmap Bureau has rectified this wrong with a game that almost feels like a classic of that bygone era. If only we could send it back in time so we all could have enjoyed it back in 1991.
