A pretty lacking Mario Party game. I bought it before Superstars, and the difference is as clear as day.

No, not a Mario party anyone needs to go back to at this point, the offender? Joy cons, terrible terrible controllers that get drift in a matter of months which eliminates the only usable controller for this game, thank goodness Mario party super stars uses pro controllers. Besides that good cast at least, also great graphics, online sucks but that's switch for you.

this game is not the best but a step in the right direction. removing the kart was great but the stages were lacking in quantity and quality lack of character and more boring gameplay then other Mario parties makes it not the best but better than 10 ill give them that. 5/10 (average)

This game is okay but it had a lot of missed potential. It was advertised as a return to form but is far from that. Birdo was still missing but luckily she came back for Superstars. I like that each character has their own unique dice block, which can influence what character you want to choose. The minigames are mostly fun with some of my favourites being Sizzling Stakes, Trip Navigator and Pie Hard (love that name). I do like that you can practice minigames on the control screen now which is a nice feature. Now the negatives, There are only four boards in this game! That is far too low and on top of that none of them are even that good. That alone brings the score down a lot. Stars only cost 10 coins now instead of 20 which is a downgrade from before. The side modes in this game were fine but they get boring after a while, like River Survival and Sound Stage. And they kinda take away from the focus of the main game. They finally introduced an online mode for Mario Party but they took way too long to add it when it should have been there from the beginning. This game is an upgrade from the ones ND Cube made before this, but still not nearly as good as the classic Mario Party games. If they had focused more on adding more boards and less on the side modes, it could have been better. Luckily we got Superstars afterwards which made up for it! Expand

A decent but flawed party game in the Mario Party series. It got a bit better after Nintendo updated it to support online play.

    PROS:

    - A boatload of minigames.
    - Accessible and fun.
    - Nice motion controls.

    CONS:

    - Just a few boards.
    - Requires one joy-con per player.
    - Nintendo didn't give it much support, and already replaced it with another Mario Party game on the Switch.

Sorta fun, but can get boring after half a game. I would rather play the new Mario Party: Superstars.

Mixed feelings. I bought this game to play with my non-gaming family and it it's NOT user friendly for them. Even with little demos for each minigame, which take unnecessary time, my family struggled to relearn controls for every single minigame. And then, when I"m playing myself, it feels like there's not enough content, and the games don't feel long enough. All in all, it's not bad, butMixed feelings. While this game is flawed, it's still very fun and enjoyable. After 5 games, they finally listened to us. The bad things about this game are that it only has 4 boards and you can only use joy-cons. Despite that, this is the first Mario Party game that I can actually call good since DS.

    Disappointment = Decepcionante.

Mario party has not been good for about a decade now. There are very little boards to choose from, and the mini games are underwhelming. Although Super Mario Party is a step up from 8, 9 and 10, it is still lacking in what the first few titles had to offer.

The core gameplay of Super Mario Party is very enjoyable, the addition of the character dice mechanic is quite notable and adds a touch of strategy to the affair. The side modes are somewhat charming, but the meat is of course the main party mode. The lack of boards is the games biggest flaw, four simply isn't enough, and it makes the game feel stale far sooner than it should. This issue could easily have been remedied through free DLC, but sadly the developers have displayed no interest in improving the game post-launch, aside from the addition of online play, something which should've been there from the start. Too many modes, not enough boards and items. Character roster is great, though. We're slowly but surely getting closer to another great Mario Party game.

For now, this is good. Just please make the next one not make me use a hecking Joy-Con.

Highly recommeded for anyone who's looking for a game to play with their family (if their family mostly consists of non-gamers). It's a fun, casual game for the most part with a fantastic selection of minigames.

However, there are elements of game design in the game that I for the life of me cannot understand. Why would you ever put random elements (completely out of the players

Why would you ever put random elements (completely out of the players controls) at the end of a board game that decides who actually wins? It's absolutely ridiculous and something that should never have been implemented.

A very enjoyable game, many different modes, all of which are fun, however, the abundances of modes resulted in less being put into the board modes, the boards are fun, but it would be nicer if there were more than just 4 of them, it would also be fun to be able to play all minigames online rather than just the 10 minigames from the mariothons.

Less engaging and addictive than what came before it on the wii, and it's a pity since there is a lot of possible fun and variety from the minigames. Super Mario Party goes back to its roots and delivers just like it should. The vast number of different modes, really prevents any to shine the brightest, but the entire game is a small step back that greatly leaps forward. It makes us only more excited for the next entry. Something we haven't felt with the Mario Party series in ages...

Both players and critics agreed that in the last couple of years Mario Party’s quality has been dropping. Nintendo decided to go for broke this time and I hope slapping “Super” in front of the title heralds the restart of the franchise, because SMP finally delivers what we expected. [12/2018, p.51]

Complex and unpredictable board game, numerous mini-games and being able to play as your favorite character – those are the three pillars of Mario Party’s success. Neither of these elements was polished to perfection over the years, but together they offer a very enjoyable experience. [Issue#234, p.72]
