    This game is absolutely fine for what it is. It exists, it is Mario Maker, and it is technically playable. In fact, the addition of story mode is wonderful, and many of the new things are great! However, the online is f****** worthless, unplayable garbage with little moderation and slow connection. Not to mention you have to pay for online, despite the fact that it is garbage.     Probably my biggest disappointment on Switch to date. Somehow worse than New Super Mario 2 on DS. It just feels old and dull.

    Super Mario Maker 2 is just an impressive game that has improved dramatically from its predecessor on the Wii U. It provides so much content and the Single Player adds a great personal experience if you don't want to subscribe to the Nintendo Online subscription to access Courses created by users. The online co-op is totally recommendable to play with your friends or mates and I haven't suffered any issues. This is a game that you must play in 2019 if you own a Nintendo Switch. Playing super mario maker for the first time and i gotta say wow im pleasantly surprised. its awesome that they have a story mode and not only that but you basically play older style mario games as well. I grew up on super mario world so seeing that style again and have "new game play of that kind of genre is breathtaking. so if you enjoy creatingi just made an account to make a review.     A must buy , it is worth it just for playing all the great levels out there! Building levels is also very easy and intuitive but yes you need an hour at least to build something worth ranking.

    I was going to give this game a 9/10, but I have seen many people have given the game very bad marks althoufh they say they havent't played it. It is horrible how people can do this. I understand that people may not like it, but the game isn't bad, at least 7 or 8. So I give it 10/10 to try to compensate a bit of those unnecessary marks.

    This game is very good. It's fun, enjoyble and long, so long that in fact it never ends. When you finish the "Story" mode, you can create the levels you want in meny different styles with a lot of features many new ones. But also you can play unlimited amount of levels made by other people and with cooperative. This game is amazing. (Best with Nintendo Switch Online, to fully enjoy the game).    … Expand

    Game fantástico, super criativo, muito bem feito e que vai te prender por muitas horas em frente da tela. Basicamente é a mesma ideia do MM1 onde o protagonista pela criação das fases é o próprio jogador. Além disso, as fases podem ser compartilhadas e jogadas por todos os jogadores do mundo. Simplesmente fantástico.

    Super Mario maker 2 has double the content that Super Mario maker 1, or even more, is simply a game that will give anyone hours and hours of fun and is a perfect sequel and not a port as many people say.

    I loved MM1, but this game is awful - why? Because of the Boos. My kid felt so down when she she realized her levels were buried because of boos. MM1 was so much better for the young kiddos. They turned MM into a streamers day job.

    Bought this game thinking that when you publish a level online people would play it and everyone would have fun playing each others levels. After all, that's how it was advertised. Maybe the algorithm would put it in someone queue or something. This is not the case. If you want anyone to play your levels you have to go online and beg people to play it.

    a) There's a lot of content locked behind accomplishments and may of them are related to how many people play your levels
    b) why even spend the time to make them if nobody is going to play them.

    Just as well many of the top shared levels are low effort auto players where all you have to do is hold the stick right to run and nothing else.    … Expand

    I agree that the online multiplayer needs to be fixed (why are 4 player multiplayer switch games like this and Smash so laggy?), but it can't be overstated how much of a fan service this is for Mario fans. I grew up on the SNES and Super Mario World is one of the first games I remember playing and loving. I dare say this game is above and beyond the best 2D mario platformer that'sI agree that the online multiplayer needs to be fixed (why are 4 player multiplayer switch games like this and Smash so laggy?), but it can't be overstated how much of a fan service this is for Mario fans.     Deben mejorar el online, el resto es una maravilla, que si no fuera por el online se lleva mi 10, lo recomiendo, las mecánicas se mantienen solo que el timing cambian muy levemente, es un juego infinito.

    You can't play this "game" online because its P2P and lags a lot with people from another country, its innapropiate for a company like Nintendo to have P2P servers on a 2020 game. Also you have to pay Nintendo Online subcription so why P2P servers?

    Also its the same game as Super Mario Maker so i dont see the point why they just put a "2" on the name and sell the game as new

    For one, Nintendo has completely missed to design this game around a large TV. They completely base it off the extremely small screen on the Switch, so when I, playing on a 55" TV from 2.7 meters away, which is just fine on a PS4/Xbox One, of course this game is just..... not working. You literally need a "japanese size" TV to be able to    You know, nothing in this game "just works".

    Game has.... soo muuuch traaaash. The "endless" mode which is supposed to be the "main" mode is just a randomizer. It doesn't pick levels that are "good" by any measure, so you encounter these literal trash levels that are just a chore to play. They're "hard", but never for the right reason.

    Its all fun and games until you play multiplayer, which is almost impossible due to extreme LAG. And its even worse for me because I bought this game with the one-year nintendo switch online subscription. SHAME ON YOU, Nintendo.

    A truly awful game that goes to show, new isn't always better, there are barely any new features, and the best part of the 1st game, amiibo costumes, where removed! Also, you need a subscription to get in when you didn't in the 1st one, and I haven't even talked about the online multiplayer yet, oh it's bad, and SUPER laggy.

    Lo que podrian poner más novedades y mejorar el modo online competitivo, que depende de algo que no se que es va muy mal. Compra obligada... porque el juego es literalmente infinito.

    Now to the issues I currently have the game... (keeping it from being a 9 or even a rare 10/10 for me.)

    The main problem currently with the game is that there is NO online lobby play, and it requires you to pay for nintendo's online service to play online. It is embarrassing and unnecessary for nintendo to continue to disappoint gamers with its shoddy online. This makes playing with friends online impossible, unless you match randomly with them.

    The online play's main features are it's Versus and Coop mode, both of which are ruined by terrible unending lag. Even if YOU have perfect ethernet connection, if one player does not, it ruins it for all four players. The reason it does not run smooth is due to Nintendo having NO DEDICATED SERVERS, or very minimal at best.

    The game has a 32 level cap (uploads that is, offline levels can be preserved) that cannot be surpassed; for many players this is no matter, but for some very avid level creators this can be a very problematic situation.

    There are certain problems that can never be fixed, of course the levels you randomly come across will more than likely be very annoying to play, or even just total garbage. Sometimes, you'll find a hidden gem among the random heaps of levels, but most of the time you'll find a bad level.

    Another problem that is related to the last part is that you can no longer download people's levels. If you make a level designed to irritate people, such as hidden blocks and easy hidden paths, nobody but you will know unless they randomly come across it, and coupled with the new Win Conditions mechanic, this can lead to levels having a 0% clear rate due to one hidden block.

    The online multiplayer even ignores the tags they themselves designated! for example, you can set your level up for multiplayer versus, and put the specified tag for it, but the actual versus mode chooses levels randomly anyways!

    I would love to give this game a very high rating. I really would! Ive loved nintendo games for many years; but i must be fair in my reviews and not base them from nostalgia or love for a company. ALL nintendo has to do to fix this game is fix a small list of things

    1. Add Online Lobby play, let us play online with our friends nintendo, We are already PAYING FOR IT NOW.
    2. make the servers dedicated, this cuts the lag and only makes the person with the shoddy internet suffer, not everyone else.
    3. change just a few more minor things, like being unable to download levels, the level cap removed or increased for creators, and thats it.

    If the first 2 of these 3 things are added, fixing the online, i will re review the game, and likely give it a much more positive review, but until then i must say it has gotten stale and is very similar to the previous game. Have fun paying 60 dollars for a new game, 20 dollars for the online, only to be wildly disappointed by the near complete lack of online support.

The novelty will wear off real quick on this game, trust me! 99.999% of players will never come up with anything nearly as clever as what you'll see, and if you're sensitive to feeling 'not good enough sometimes', like me, then stay away from SMM2!     I haven't tried making any courses yet but even the story mode is way better than New Super Mario Bros Deluxe.

    There are many superb levels made by users and it is useful that you can select difficulty. You do have to put up with a load of completely rubbish user levels too though.

    Well worth buying instead of new mario deluxe even of you dont plan to make your own courses

    Impressive what can be done with a pair of pipes and some goombas. It may take a few hours to build a decent level, but the result and the simplicity to create them is the best of the game. Of course if you are like me, more than playing the levels that the community has created than creating them, you will have a more challenging classic super mario with infinity of levels. Essential.

    A fun game that lets you express your creativity in many ways. A variety of tools have been introduced which makes it an improvement over the Wii U and 3DS games before it. A fun time to mess around. Nothing special but worth it if you have a creative mind. 8/10

    I'll be quite honest for a second, I didn't think I'd be sitting here writing a review of this game. Make no mistake, I enjoyed the short time I spent with the original "Super Mario Maker" back in 2015, but I'll be honest, I'm not one for level-creators and/or game creators like this. Even for how much I enjoyed a game like "Disney Infinity" that was heavily creation-based, I often ignoredI'll be quite honest for a second, I didn't think I'd be sitting here writing a review of this game. Make no mistake, I enjoyed the short time I spent with the original "Super Mario Maker" back in 2015, but I'll be honest, I'm not one for level-creators and/or game creators like this. Even for how much I enjoyed a game like "Disney Infinity" that was heavily creation-based, I often ignored the creation aspect and skipped to the main "story mode" in the game, if you will. To that effect, when "Super Mario Maker 2" was announced, I kinda just responded with the same thing I always say about games that aren't for me: "I'm happy for the fans that wanted it, but I probably won't get it." But as you may know, I'm a largely offline gamer that enjoys single-player campaigns/Story Modes in games, so when I heard "Super Mario Maker 2" had a Story Mode, my interest was piqued and I chose to play the game. Boy, am I glad I did.
    "Super Mario Maker 2" is rip-roaring fun, even if you're like me and don't often create levels. The main Story Mode won't take you very long to beat, but there's incredible mission variety here and a lot of missions to complete. I still had about 10 pages worth of jobs to complete once completing the Story Mode, and even near the end, I still felt like I was learning so many new things. For those in it for the building, however, the new tools and mechanics allow for much deeper and more polished levels, and while the addition of the "Super Mario 3D World" theme might seem like a minor thing, it actually adds a nice extra dimension to the gameplay, with several new Power-Ups and ways to control as well (you can long jump, wear the Cat Suit, AND drive a Koopa Car! I might just be nerding out a bit more than I should but that's awesome!). And beyond that, the game is visually dazzling, the controls feel smooth, and the game is simply oozing with creativity. Even in the levels you can access in the main Story Mode, which were just pre-created by Nintendo, this is one of those games where you can just feel the fun the developers had in making it. It's a joyful and stunning game that brings with it all the best aspects of the 2D (and 2.5D, for that matter) "Super Mario" games.
    I honestly can't complain about much with this game. "Super Mario Maker 2" more than exceeded my expectations, and even as someone that doesn't create a ton of levels or anything like that, I found that the game gave me more than plenty to do, expanded upon the first game amazingly, and reminded me why the "Mario" platformers are some of the most charming, inventive, and creative games ever made. if you haven't had the chance to play this yet, you're doing yourself a disservice. Make it a point to check out "Super Mario Maker 2," because regardless of whether or not you're a builder, you're gonna have a blast with this one.

    It's an awesome game but is kind of sad that it lacks some of the things that made the first Mario maker so special, like the mystery mushroom outfits, or the fly minigame... Even so, the Story is a great addition to the formula

    One of the best games I ever played. Great game and great content, it is a shame I missed the first one but I loved the second especially the Story Mode.     One of the best sandbox games on the Switch.

    The community levels range from brutally difficult to surreal.

    The story is kinda mid though. Would recommend aside from that.

The thing that I enjoy most about the story mode is how every level has been designed and created by Nintendo game designers, giving players to the opportunity to look into the works behind how Nintendo game designers make levels, whilst also learning about new mechanics that they never thought could work. The online mode is also a good feature to have, which allows players to be inspired to rise up to the top and make a world renowned level. The online mode is also good if you want to play people's levels on the fly, thanks to the fact that you could download levels. Overall, I can truly say is that this game is excellent.     This is a game that started out ok and got better over time. With new updates, like the Link power up addition and the recent inclusion of many power ups, this game has become a great time.

    However, the online is bad, because Switch Online really f**king sucks, and the paywall subscription crap is annoying

But the most important thing is that new graphics inspired in Super Mario 3D world are available to create and play with, which are really delightful and ideal for a new super mario 2D game.
    The way yo can play levels created by the community works in the same way as in the first Mario maker. In addition, it's quite simple use filters in order to find what you're looking for, so you won't get lost. The only issue i find is that the browser is old fashioned. To look for a specific level it's necessary to introduce its ID. I reckon that we should be able to introduce the name of the levels we're searching for.
    One of the new things that caught my eye was the story mode. It's a great idea for those players who don't have an online subscription and for those who just like to exploit the whole game and enjoy the experience all the gamemodes bring. Moreover, Nintendo one more time has demonstrated that is the best company creating levels; all of them have top quality.
    The main problem this game has is its online mode, which is really disappointing. I don't understand why this service works so well in games like Splatoon 2 or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and works so bad in this one. Both competitive and cooperative modes are literally unplayable due to the lag. It's a pity that a gamemode with such a big potential are not able to play in proper conditions.    … Expand

    This was a letdown. For a game that relies on the community to create maps, it is unacceptable that the netcode is so bad. You can literally not play this online with a friend without suffering lag. It is also not acceptable that it comes with such a **** mission filter. Whatever mission you create, it will probably never be played by anyone. The story mode is also very barebones.

    But thats not why you buy mario maker 2!

    Making levels and worlds for 1 -4 players.
    The community made levels and worlds.
    This game does that well.

    Super Mario Maker 2 has blown me away! I rate it out of 10 9.5. The reason for this is no ice flower, no 3D making and no help mode. The help mode is an idea made by me. You can turn it off by clicking on it. I enjoyed the 3.0 update very much. - Ollie aged 7

    The game is amazing and is a must have on the Switch. Firstly, the story mode is so addictive with each level and I really enjoyed working my way through it to rebuild the castle. You really have a sense of success after completing the castle. Secondly, and most importantly, the community is very nice. Being able to play so many creative levels and provide feedback is awesome.     As someone who's always loved level editors and admires game design, this is my childhood dream come true. I make my own levels in the Mario universe and it feels great. It is a fairly robust level editor when you consider the "simplicity" of the level design.

The inclusion of more tools and enemies like the on and off switches allow for interesting level concepts that couldn't of been achieved in the original. The new Story Mode has many levels made by Nintendo that will keep those don't want to play online levels occupied. I suggest it to any Mario fan because it provides infinite possibilities of Mario levels and as The Game Theorist says “it has more possibilities than there are stars in the universe” and that was just the FIRST game he said that to.

The story is fun to play through the levels in the story most of the time are fun and playing other peoples good levels is so cool seeing what people come up with. and making levels is amazing.     The best game for this console. Endless gameplay that gives the complexity that the player needs. You just start playing and after dozens of hours you realize that now you want to speedrun, and the game gives you this chance.

    Mario Maker 2 have everything that a player needs to make its own levels. Navigate thought the online courses and play what the other players did is absolutely satisfying, and be able to post your own level too. But the online menus are the problem, they lack tons of filter options, and because of that, really bad levels are more likely to appear.

This game is ruined by kids who make horrible levels and dislike actual good levels just because it isnt in 3d world or because it is too hard. Also, the multiplayer is so slow and laggy, I wouldn't recommend it. The maker mode is very nice, all there isThis game is fun, but it could be a lot better.     Nintendo will surely need to work on new artistic and mechanical styles to make its future 2D Mario games attractive, as Super Mario Maker 2 takes all the best from Super Mario Maker 1 and boosts the game with new options, a better interface, more customization, themes, night mode, interesting enemies and wraps the whole package with a fun new story mode and an online mode that even with its flaws, is competent.Super Mario Maker 2 offers the ultimate experience for Mario 2D fans and certainly yields much more fun than the 60$ what it is charged for.

    Another masterpiece by Nintendo. Super Mario Maker 2 is a delight for every creative soul out there - and yet also cares about players with no interest in designing their own levels. There are dozens of hours of pure fun for both of those groups.
