    The ultimate Super Mario Bros level maker is now available on the go! I swear the only reason I didn't play it at first was because I lacked the inspiration to create new levels. Back on the Wii U, players weren't allowed to simply have all the building items in arms reach. Players had to wait nine real life days in order to unlock these items. Back on the Wii U, players weren't allowed to simply have all the building items in arms reach. Players had to wait nine real life days in order to unlock these items. So if you wanted to build the level of your dreams, you would have to play a game of back and forth with the date and time settings. But now, ultimate power is now at your fingertips! Though I personally prefer not to use the touch screen on my Switch.

    I'd say the best addition of this game is the world map maker, currently it's only limited to having Super Mario World theming. But the fact that I have the ability to place alive icons, alternate routes, toad houses to go with my stages it takes me back to the days of my childhood, drawing my own Mario levels for fun. Their's even a solo mode if you want to search for inspiration and challenge Nintendo staff levels. Life is good!

    One of the most important elements of video game design is freedom. The more options you give your players, the more enjoyable the game becomes. So this sequel is a big step in the right direction. However I will say the best way to enjoy this game, is to have other people try out your levels. Whether they be local or online, the true joy that comes from creating levels is seeing the people enjoy themselves while playing them.    … Expand

    Le daría un 9 o 10, pero su dependencia al online, le resta mucho a este gran título, lleno de contenido y con un sistema de creación de niveles inmejorable, un modo historia entretenido y un abanico de opciones de juego online increíble.

    I have about 300 hours into this game, it is my most played game on my switch. It's really fun to make levels and play them... too unless you do endless, which is fun but give you less 'good' levels sometimes. I can be very creative in this game and made about 70 levels and even a super world. Really recommend if you're creative or want an infinite amount of 2d platformer levels!

    I recently played Super Mario Maker 2 and I have to say, it's a fantastic game. The level design is top-notch and there's so much variety in the types of levels you can create. The controls are tight and responsive, making it easy to jump and maneuver through levels. The addition of new power-ups like the Super Mario 3D World cat suit adds new dimensions to gameplay. The only reason II recently played Super Mario Maker 2 and I have to say, it's a fantastic game. The level design is top-notch and there's so much variety in the types of levels you can create. The controls are tight and responsive, making it easy to jump and maneuver through levels. The addition of new power-ups like the Super Mario 3D World cat suit adds new dimensions to gameplay. The only reason I don't give it a perfect score is that the online multiplayer can be a bit glitchy at times. Overall, I highly recommend Super Mario Maker 2 to any fans of platformers or Mario games in general.… Expand

    This is a really good game. It has so much play value in it. The story is nothing special, the online games are often laggy, but Joycon Drift is not very prevalent! The worst part is playing on a tv. This game is only playable (for making stages) on handheld. Playing is bedt on handheld, and fine elsewhere. I do suggest buying the game if you have a switch! I have at least 500 hours playing it

    I think that this game is very creative and great as a first game for kids! It does have some problems, like the 32 level upload cap, but it’s got basically infinite content (endless mode), so it’s perfect for long road trips. Definitely a good purchase for someone of any skill level as it covers a wide scope.

    Such a creative and well made game! Building your own Mario levels is obviously an amazing concept that I'm surprised wasn't worked on properly until now. And as a plus, you get an adventure mode, and an inconsistent multiplayer mode that's still fun nonetheless.

    A dream come true
    This game is everything a sequel to Super Mario Maker should be and went above and beyond adding online 2d Mario for the first time ever, sure it had it’s flaws, but it improved a lot over time. All of the updates were solid, none felt like let-downs or included anything that should have been there at launch like check points in SMM. This game in my opinion the best game ever.

    A fun game that lets you express your creativity in many ways. A variety of tools have been introduced which makes it an improvement over the Wii U and 3DS games before it. A fun time to mess around. Nothing special but worth it if you have a creative mind. 8/10

    The built-in challenge levels are superb. The World Builder is a welcome addition. The new modes are great. All that said, I really miss the many extra characters we got with the Wii U game, like Mario-Kun and Weird Mario.

    User-created courses are very hit and miss, and mostly miss. You can avoid the all-time top 20, as they are all just identical automatic courses that make loud noises. It's best to find a few active course designers you like and follow them, or at least someone who *was* active a few years ago and made a ton of courses.

    Regardless, you'll never run out of fun new courses to play! (At least until Nintendo ends online services at some point in the future.)    … Expand

    This was the first game i got with my switch in 2019..
    Absolute must have for anybody who has the switch!
    The only con for me is that there is some things missing which i would like to add.
    But the rest is all good!

    This game in its prime was honestly 10/10, but with lack of support from Nintendo and the over abundance of the “satisfying” levels kinda made me fall off of it. This game added a whole lot to SMM1 but also kinda didn’t. It feels like just one new game style when it said “Extra Games Styles” was kinda off to me. There also wasn’t that much added if you look at it.     One of the best sandbox games on the Switch.

    The community levels range from brutally difficult to surreal.

    The story is kinda mid though. Would recommend aside from that.

    It's like Mario Bros, just better!
    You have the "adventure mode" where you have to complete levels created by Nintendo, or you just build your own levels or play levels from people around the world.

    No le puedo dar el 10, porque por alguna razón nintendo no quiere arreglar algunos bugs que aún posee el juego al armar ciertas cosas para los niveles.

    Ojalá algún día los arregle (no creo que suceda pero bueno...)

    The concept of creating Mario levels is genius, I really like it! its a fun game and sharing your courses with the world is fun too, I wish the online mode wasn't very laggy but putting that aside its a good game.

So while my brothers were rejoicing about getting theirs, I was miserable about being the only one who didn't get any. But Mom got my back and told me she DID get me my game. I was ECSTATIC.
    With all the selling-out done, though, I'd like to start praising    This game is awesome, no doubt.     With all the selling-out done, though, I'd like to start praising the game for its extremely catchy soundtrack, especially its title screen should you be playing in the SMW mode onwards. It's just SO nostalgic. Now only that, there's several customization options available, proving Nintendo loves their variety.
    My only problem was that there were loads of Story Mode missions that were **** to do. But it was fun, especially when I had Luigi to lend a hand. You'll understand when YOU play the game.
    Also, Course World is amazing, as you can see other people's creations. Multiplayer Versus, in particular, is pretty damn cool, even though I barely win.
    Anyways, to conclude, it was a good concept for us to make our own levels in the first game, but THIS game blew it out of the park with TONS of content. If you want to try this game out to see for yourself, go for it!    … Expand

    This game is endless, really. I have never seen this much creativity in one game ever since minecraft. People make new levels all the time. The only nitpicks i have about this game is 2 things. Why can't i search normally? Why do i have to use codes? -1 for that There is no quality control. You can make a messy level and if you're good enough, you can submit it. -1 for that.

This is got to be Mario Maker 2 biggest part. Now let's talk about the main issues with this game. The Multiplayer sucks. It is so laggy and is unplayable at times. You could have made the multiplayer single player and it would still be laggy. That's how bad it is. Plus, once you have done with the campaign. If you don't often play other peoples world, it gets kind of dull, that's the main reason why I don't play the game often. However, this game is great fun, and I highly recommend it if your a fan of Mario and sandbox type games.… Expand

    I love 2D Mario, and just when I thought Nintendo wouldn't do anything interesting with it anymore, they released the original Mario Maker and completely recaptured the magic! And this is a more than worthy sequel! I want to thank everyone who provided endless amount of fun Mario action through this amazing tool!

    This concept was much more interesting the first time, but the sequel is really great in its own right with lots of new content. Most of the stages that others made are unplayable trash, but every once in a while you find a real gem of a level. The single player is also great.

    Fantastic game. With millions of levels to play, there's always a new level to play, and you can search by difficulty, Mario game style, popular courses, and more. Making courses is also fun and is a good outlet for creativity. This is a must buy game for Mario and platformer fans.

    What is the deal with Nintendo and story modes? Smash story mode was bad and then Mario Maker 2? Disappointing really... But I would say Mario Maker 2 is better than Smash Ultimate. Making level is really fun and I really like how easy levels are to do so 8/10!

    I really love this game! It is such an amazing experience to be able to create our own levels, probably the only issue that I have with this masterpiece is making levels with the tv. We really have a lot of customization options which is awesome.

    A must-have for any Switch owner. It takes the basics that its Wii U version set up and perfects them. The course maker lets you make levels exactly as you can imagine them, the more recent world maker allows you to create an entire Mario game. The online gives you an almost unlimited pool of courses, the multiplayer, however, is unbearable online and almost always has intense lag. NSOA must-have for any Switch owner. It takes the basics that its Wii U version set up and perfects them. The course maker lets you make levels exactly as you can imagine them, the more recent world maker allows you to create an entire Mario game. The online gives you an almost unlimited pool of courses, the multiplayer, however, is unbearable online and almost always has intense lag. NSO takes the blame most of the time, but in my experience other online games such as Mario Kart and Smash Bros. work just fine most of the time. Sometimes there's lag, but that's rare. The opposite is true here; finding a functional online match is the exception, not the rule. But, for what it's worth, Mario Maker 2 is the best way to live your dreams of making your own Mario game.… Expand

    Really fun to make really hard levels then challenge your friends to play them and speedrun them. The level creation tools are perfect and editing with a controller is surprisingly good. The biggest problem with the game is there are a lot of garbage levels where some 5 year old got on to their big brother's switch and just spammed enemies with no effort. It is one of the best switch games.

    The best game for this console. Endless gameplay that gives the complexity that the player needs. You just start playing and after dozens of hours you realize that now you want to speedrun, and the game gives you this chance.

    The free updates we got where amazing and being able to not only be able to create your own levels but turn them into a world for other to play is what all Mario kids dreamed of. theirs so much content in this game it's worth every cent

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Super Mario Maker 2 became an important improvement from its first edition on the Wii U. It introduced many new things which made the experience entertaining enough, from new elements and a history mode to the ninji time trials, where you always try and retry just to improve your time and show your Mario-playing skills to the ranks. However, there were two things (and mainly one) which made me play the game every day for much time.

    The first one (and the main one in my opinion) is the online multiplayer feature, and more specifically, competitive multiplayer. Before the game was revealed, I was never expecting to find this on a Mario game, but one year and two months after the game release it is probably one of the best improvements the original game could have got. It is not perfect indeed, as many times you can have some bad luck and play s*** levels which I think their creator do not even know why did they publish them, but apart from that, there are many traditional short levels which can be interesting to play, or specific 4vs4 courses just for this mode. It also depends on luck many times (on the final result I mean), but when it does not, it is clearly the best feature of the game IMO.

    The second one is the world map creator, which was many times requested by the community, and it has obviously been a great addition, as you can collect game worlds to create your own Super Mario game. I did not play many worlds, but the ones I played were worth it. You can see many creative levels which you would not see normally on the most-featured published courses and which would clearly be popular if they were enoughly voted.

    Apart from those two new features, the community for Mario games is still impressive. You can proof this by playing the most popular worldwide levels. I am still impressed by how can someone make some things which for me would be impossible. But as I said, that is why the community is impressive, they can surprise you in any moment with any idea.

    In conclussion, this game is an absolute must-buy for the Nintendo Switch. I am giving it a 9/10 because I just find a problem on the game, and it is lag on online multiplayer games. Many many times, levels can be unplayable. If you want to play the game by its multiplayer, then I think this is not your game, but if you consider yourself a true Mario fan, then, go ahead.    … Expand

It's basically the fans creating good content in the mario universe which nintendo has proven time and time again they can no longer do. I wish they would add in more playable characters...     While this is better than SMM1 because of its improved content, you have to pay to play other people's levels, which I cannot ignore whatsoever! Money is not always the key to success Nintendo! 8/10
    The 2/10 is for the p2p crap.

When I heard they are making a sequel for the switch, I didn't have a switch at the time. So I bought An entire console For Mario Maker 2. And trust me, I do not regret that a single bit. This game is an absolute Upgrade on the Original,YOU HAVE TO GET THIS GAME IF YOU HAVE A SWITCH. My first Nintendo game I ever played was Mario Maker for the 3ds.     If you love Mario, your gonna love this game! It has a lot to do, with endless mode, story mode, and course maker! My only downside with the game, doesn't come from the game itself, but this game is filled with garbage levels, either too easy, or too messy. I recommend this game!

    Es un juego matemáticamente finito, pero divertidamente INFINITO, sin dudas hacer niveles es genial, disfrutas de saber que a la gente le gusta lo que haces y disfrutas jugar lo que la gente hace. Lo unico malo es la obligatoria necesidad de NS online para tener la mejor experiencia, y el modo historia tan irrelevante

    I may as well review after the final major patch update and I won't be renewing my online account which expires soon.

    I enjoyed making levels and proud on showing the world my hours of work in designing. However the game has some issues that mildly annoy me:
    - The main menu interface I feel is not over intuitive. Why my maker profile and my costume selections in completely different areas of the game? Me checking and customizing my profile should be in one spot.
    - I cannot search levels using words like "Bowser" and getting Bowser named levels as a filter option
    - I cannot copy and re-upload my levels if I want to make a change. Have to delete and re-upload the same level with a change instead of having two levels uploaded, really don't like that.
    -No 100 lives challenge. Having endless mode you don't get a finale and your progress seems empty.
    I had fun playing the game but my passion faded as I feel 90% of user levels were... less desirable, but that has little to do with the game itself.
    I recommend buying, playing and learning some mechanics. This game at least upskills you in gaming in general    … Expand

    Muy divertido. muy buena kinestesica y musca incluso original. tiene infinitas posibilidades de creación y con actualizaciones gratuitas que expanden mucho el juego. lo único malo es el Online pero eso es por parte de Nintendo y no problema de Mario Maker.

Now I have almost all the tools in Mario history to make my own levels and my own worlds. I also can play other people's creative worlds (With Switch online but its pretty cheap so its fine). Online sucks but I don't play online anyway. With thisMario Maker 2 is the best game I have ever had on switch. I love the creating part. I played the first and loved it but it was a bit limited.     Some level creators know the creation tools inside out and have created some truly marvellous levels. Since it's release, there have been two free major content updates which has kept the game fresh. You can even play as Link, sword, bow, bombs and shield all in tow.

    As I said before, I've only made 2 levels. So goes to show you don't have to get this game just for the creation side.

    It is an infinite mario maker featuring 5 distinct mario styles from the last 30 years. It completely overshadows the newer mainline 2D games. Super Mario U Deluxe for example, is just stale in comparison and I got bored very quickly.

    There are multiplayer modes which unfortunetely as per usual Nintendo service, laggy as heck. And i've avoided playing them.

    The new addition of the world creator is a much wanted feature Nintendo were kind enough to give to us in recent months.

    Would be a 10/10 but 9/10 due to laggy multiplayer.    … Expand

    Sorting through the not-so-great levels and levels designed to exploit the game make it a bit tough at times, but it is easy to sink hundreds of hours into this game. Easily one of the best titles on the Switch.

    I haven't tried making any courses yet but even the story mode is way better than New Super Mario Bros Deluxe.

    There are many superb levels made by users and it is useful that you can select difficulty. You do have to put up with a load of completely rubbish user levels too though.

    Well worth buying instead of new mario deluxe even of you dont plan to make your own courses

    Super Mario Maker 2 has blown me away! I rate it out of 10 9.5. The reason for this is no ice flower, no 3D making and no help mode. The help mode is an idea made by me. You can turn it off by clicking on it. I enjoyed the 3.0 update very much. - Ollie aged 7

    Impressive what can be done with a pair of pipes and some goombas. It may take a few hours to build a decent level, but the result and the simplicity to create them is the best of the game. Of course if you are like me, more than playing the levels that the community has created than creating them, you will have a more challenging classic super mario with infinity of levels. Essential.

    This is a game that started out ok and got better over time. With new updates, like the Link power up addition and the recent inclusion of many power ups, this game has become a great time.

    However, the online is bad, because Switch Online really f**king sucks, and the paywall subscription crap is annoying

    One of the best games on switch. This is a masterpiece for the history of Nintendo. You can create levels, create a world, you can play online with other players in competitive or cooperative, you have a speedrun mode, play online levels and worlds, play the history mode, whatever. This game is how Dreams. A game with full content

    Nintendo will surely need to work on new artistic and mechanical styles to make its future 2D Mario games attractive, as Super Mario Maker 2 takes all the best from Super Mario Maker 1 and boosts the game with new options, a better interface, more customization, themes, night mode, interesting enemies and wraps the whole package with a fun new story mode and an online mode that even with its flaws, is competent.Super Mario Maker 2 offers the ultimate experience for Mario 2D fans and certainly yields much more fun than the 60$ what it is charged for.

    Another masterpiece by Nintendo. Super Mario Maker 2 is a delight for every creative soul out there - and yet also cares about players with no interest in designing their own levels. There are dozens of hours of pure fun for both of those groups.
