I feel that many racers start on a high and the more you play, the less fun the game becomes due to its repetitive nature. I don’t feel this at all with Super Impossible Road. It is a game that I will always say, “just one more race” and open when a friend is over. The better you become at finding those shortcuts and taking those leaps of faith off the track - and succeeding - the more fun you’ll be having with the tight controls in this action-packed, crazy, and striking space racer.

A visually impressive racer, Super Impossible Road is tough but fair. Randomised levels, frustrating “one more go” gameplay, coupled with a classic PlayStation-era soundtrack, there’s fun to be had here. It’s a bit bare bones outside of its Career Mode, but that is deep enough to keep players going. Or annoy them in equal measure.

It’s stylish, fun, and has plenty of gameplay modes to enjoy on your own or with other players. There’s value in this version beyond its Apple Arcade counterpart, and I think if you enjoy these kinds of intensely challenging arcade-style experiences you’ll have a good time here.

Super Impossible Road has a solid core of gameplay, with a racing mechanic unlike any we've seen. The gameplay is fast and tight, and the visuals are astounding. Perhaps most fun in multiplayer, as the career can be a bit of a slog, this is still a unique racing game will worth a look.

There are plenty of modes to enjoy here, most prominently the online multiplayer which allows public and private rooms. Taking your learned game out into the world is a rush, even when you realise everyone's ten times better than you — cross-platform multiplayer is apparently in the works for next year. The central career mode is a blast, too, with its different challenge types each teaching you different skills that you'll need for the main racing events. Ring runs that see you rolling through, well, rings, checkpoint gates that you have to skip — it's all clever stuff. Marry this simple but full-featured gameplay with an enormous skill ceiling to the rock-solid 60 fps frame rate and you're onto something of a winner. There's even a Daily Track mode so you never need to stop. Super Impossible Road is a strong effort and a pleasant surprise.

While the races are thrilling, the lack of any features found in other racers, such as sliding or braking, prevents you from building skills to master the game. Most times, it feels like you win on sheer luck. Coupled with the fact that the tracks all feel relatively the same, the experience gets stale fairly quickly.

This game rules. A lot. As someone who's played the original Impossible Road, I loved it a lot. So when I saw this coming out on the NintendoThis game rules. A lot. As someone who's played the original Impossible Road, I loved it a lot. So when I saw this coming out on the Nintendo Switch, I immediately pre-ordered it. When I finally played it, I was stunned. The visuals looked AMAZING. It has a futuristic feel to it, a far-cry from the minimalistic aesthetic of the original. The environments looked fantastic, especially for a Switch game. Hell, even for a game in general. The gameplay is great too. It retains the gameplay of the original, but adds in a new mechanic called boosting. Every time you pass a gate, you gain boost, and you can use it to speed ahead. You can also jump off of the track and land on another part of it within 5 seconds to rack up more points quickly. And did I mention the extra games modes like racing? Because these races are no joke. They are fast-paced and addicting to play, and you can even play online! Don't forget that you have an entire campaign of levels to play through, giving you some replayability to try and get 3 stars in each level.
The endless modes are pretty great too. You have Time Gate, where you try to get as much points as you can in a race against the clock while going through Time Gates to extend your time, and you have Survival, where it's your standard Impossible Road affair. These modes make the game endlessly replayable.
The soundtrack is a banger to listen to, with futuristic intense EDM-style music that really fits in with the games futuristic space setting.
Bottom line: Super Impossible Road rules, and I can't recommend it enough. For $20, the content it offers proves that it's worth every penny.

Rolling onto the scene and feeling like the marriage of Super Monkey Ball, a futuristic racer, and an exercise in calculated risks andRolling onto the scene and feeling like the marriage of Super Monkey Ball, a futuristic racer, and an exercise in calculated risks and insanity, Super Impossible Road certainly makes an impression on Switch. In principle the goal is simple, regardless of the specific event type: get to the goal at the end of the track as quickly as possible. Whether that’s by trying your best to stay on the often-windy track, taking your chances jumping off the side and trying to land on a lower section of track, or some combination of all the above, you can bet none of the options will necessarily be easy. One of the best ways to at least try to give yourself all the help you can is to tune your craft with equipment that best suits your style, usually with a focus on your grip of the track or your ability to control yourself in the air. Whether you try to find a balance and stick with it or even move between a few configurations to best suit the given event and track layout is up to you. Make no mistake, the game earns its name in spades, and racing against others tends to lead to a lot of risk-taking and paying the price, but if you enjoy gritting your teeth and working to “git gud” there’s nothing quite like this on the system.
