    Summer Catchers
    Chasing The Sun
Summer Catchers is gorgeous. This is one of the most beautiful pixilated games ive ever played.. The goal here is to basically escape the forest and get to the ocean, you hop on you cart.. and crash… how ever will you escape? collect mushrooms and spend them on items to escape.. that’s how! Summer crashers takes a while to get its hooks in you.. This

This is essentially a deck building game.. there are obstacles like totems you have to crash through, thorn bushed you have to jump over, there are tasks for you to complete to get help from this worlds enhabitents to get that much closer to the ocean, and to do the tasks and dodge the obstacles, you have to buy consumable items that the game will randomly give to you as you play.. which is probably the most frustrating part about summer catchers… no matter how hard you try to like it, the game will insist on frustrating you and forcing you to end up not liking it just because of how annoying it gets to play, especially as more itmes and obstacles are thrown at you.. I would be fine if everytin I purchased was at my disposal, but it isn’t.. you get 3 items at a time.. at random, and when you use one youll get a new random itme, and you can also swap for another random item.. sure this creates a bit of a deck building game, I will just buy more of this item so I have a better chance of drawing it.. the only problem is, the levels are procedurally generated, so no two runs are the same.. you don’t know what items you need at what frequency.. its all a luck based guessing game, not only do I have the right hand to finish this taks or beat this boss, can I add the reaction time on top of that… at times such gameplay is addictive, you get into a flow of strategy for a certain tasks, and then after you complete it youre back to being annoyed at this luck based game again…
There are also cosmetics oyu can purchase that for some reason cost different prices but do nothing different.. the carts aren’t better or sturdier.. whats the point
Summer catchers is far from a bad game, you will lose hours to it.. it has really great potential to suck you in.. but it also has the potential and turn you away and leave this game behind before you ever leave the snow behind
    I give summer catchers
    a 6/10

It’s hard to be mad at a game like Summer Catchers that has such a sweet sense of humor and such an interesting way to present a simplistic gameplay design. If you’re looking for the next indie platform that’s not just a character jumping from ledge-to-ledge, I definitely recommend Summer Catchers.

Summer Catchers does some things very well, but because it’s burdened with gameplay that seems like it was rejected from a not particularly fun mobile game, it never hits the heights that it could have (and probably should have).

Summer Catchers resembles an endless runner, except this one is based on a soapbox car. Its concept is as simple as possible, and the game's pleasant pixel art style is a charm to look at. Where Summer Catchers doesn't succeed is in delivering an experience that rewards players for their skills, as nearly every success here is a matter of sheer luck, and the random tracks aren't always adequate for the gameplay on offer.
