This game is magic. Saying too much would ruin it. It’s more about the experience than the story. It’s relaxing. It’s terrifying at time. I wish I could forget everything about this game just so that I could experience it again.

Really nice Port. Nice gameplay loop with very challenging obstacles. You grow.

My rating is primarily influenced by the game randomly crashing. If you're lucky like me it won't crash at all early on, but with the switch that is especially you can leave the game open for a long time without ever needing to save. Despite patches earlier in the year to address serious crashing/save corrupting issues, you still can't trust Subnautica on the switch. If you're lucky like me it won't crash at all early on, but with the switch that is especially you can leave the game open for a long time without ever needing to save. Despite patches earlier in the year to address serious crashing/save corrupting issues, you still can't trust Subnautica on the switch. If you do try to risk it, stay on the save button as the game still crashes randomly without any mechanism for recovery. That said, this is an impressive port. The graphics do take a hit when compared to my PC copy, however it is tolerable for a more convenient way to play-- maybe when the steam deck comes out it'll be the way to go, but for now the switch port is passible (if you can get over randomly losing everything). The frame rate is occasionally headache inducing, particularly near certain important structures, while moving quickly (in a ship), and in rather large areas with lots of creatures. It isn't perfect, but the performance alone doesn't take away from how great the base game is. However it looks, it is still a fun formula and having it available to play anywhere seems really nice. But I'd strongly recommend avoiding it because of the instability. If you search for. 'subnautica crashing' you'll find plenty of other switch users that have also lost everything in the game due to some bug. The last patch was months ago, but folks keep losing everything they put into this game. For that reason, I'd steer clear of the switch port.

What can they do to fix this? Auto saving on entering a habitat or on a timer could go a long way without having to figure out the various problems that make the game unstable, I'd imagine at this point that would be a far greater engineering effort.

The game crashed after 25 hours of gameplay. When I started it again, there was no trace of a single save. I won't play 25 hours again just to come back where I was. Extremely disappointed.

Don't recommend buying this game on Switch. It's infested with bugs, very low performance and—as a bonus—there's a high chance of your save data getting corrupted trashing your XX hours invested in the play-through.

This is what you call a port. Yeah a graphically downgrade but that's not why you play games on the switch. My scored is based on handheld mode

This port is awesome. First time playing and other then some miner framrate issues when traveling great distances and a few bugs, the game runs and plays great. Definitely recommend.

The game itself is great, I've played more than 20 hours since its release, and I've had a lot of fun, but they launched the game too soon, it is clear how they rushed to launch both games at the same time. The optimization is just careless and the constant bugs, crashes and low fps make playing this game not that enjoyable. The graphs aren't great but still better than most switch games.

I can’t believe how much fun this is to play on the Switch (I am playing 90% docked). Great Port of a fantastic game!

I just finished this game and i can say i really had a fun time on the Switch. I played it on the PC a while back and enjoyed what i played. The Switch port really does a great job with almost everything. The controls at first were odd but i overcame that after some time. Looks pretty close to the PC and PS4 versions in terms of visuals. Ran pretty much smooth all the time. Great game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is butifull. People complain about the popin issues but they are hardley noticeable. The NPC are the best of the best. I love how easy copper is to find when you need it. The leviathens are a genuin threat and you have to come up with stratigees to beat them. The combat is amazing and everything is ballenced and the game isn't imedietly easy once you get the prawn suit. The enmies are a genuin threat and you can't just walk by them. I also love how the final area (The lava zone) is an actual challenge beacause of the sea dragon leviathen. I love how ballenced silent running is on the cyclops and how when you have it on you still have to pay attention to the enemies and you can't just drive past them. I also love how obtaining the ingreadients for the hatching enzymes (Used to hatch the sea emporor eggs) is fitingly a time consuming task and doesn't take just 5 minutes. Not enuogh water levels!!!!!!!!! Expand

While the spin-off “Below Zero” feels more modern, this survival adventure classic is still fascinating - and is mostly well executed on Switch.

When Unknown Worlds announced they were bringing this one to Switch we were hugely excited, this is one of our all-time favourite games after all, but it was excitement tempered with a degree of scepticism as to how on earth they'd manage to cram the entire experience onto Switch in a properly playable manner. As it turns out, we needn't have worried as this is a super solid port that - besides a few loading stutters here and there and some scenery pop-in that's present in every other version of the game - successfully delivers one of the very best survival experiences on any platform to Nintendo's hybrid console.

Subnautica is a survival and narrative experience that stands as a benchmark for the genre. The Switch version itself certainly has its drawbacks, but not enough to weigh down the experience too much. Some of them do admittedly affect gameplay mildly, but the strength of Subnautica still pushes through.
