i grew up with games just like this in the 80's so i love it.

It reminds me so much of when i used to just play final fight, renegade and double dragon when i would just load up and have some fun except streets of red does it better, As its got branching Paths and the levels change slightly based of your choice.. sure its not massive but it doesn't need to be i think if they added

i think if they added some DLC for more levels , multiplayer online maybe even PVP arena, i would spend another £5 on it easy..

i didn't realise the expert mode as another feature which you can choose to increase the power level of the BOSS/ MOBS , this game is fantastic value for money

score wise i give it a 9 just for the value of the game cost and the work they have put into how the game plays. its well balanced not to long not to short - so hats off to them well done. Thinking about it you can get this game for the price of a pint (or 2) in the pub... i think i would rather stay home and play this game..

    p.s.
in case your wondering im 46 years old and been a gamer since i was 10 years old and i love this game its easy to play and great fun :)

    pros.
horror theme (every beat'em fan loves horror)
its short play time - bad ending took me 1 hour 10mins
the good ending took me 1 hour 20 mins
in short bursts you can save at anytime

expert mode allows Different options for increasing the difficulty of the Boss/mini mobs
For me there is just something relaxing about being a hero and kicking bad guys butts
    perfect in hand held mode

cons, for a game which is like £5 i couldn't really think of anything that bad but i will give it a go

no weapon pickups (but hey you dont need any)
on the docked mode the scrolling seemed a bit rough.. but i still played it for like 3 hours lol without a issue.

a great throwback to games like final fights streets of red is a branching path story wise and the setting art work and sounds are very well done
tongue in cheek and adds its own style
the game took me an hour to beat and I didn't play all the levels I had to play it 3 times to complete the whole game on the switch it was never boring a good sign in a game like this priced fairly to be

A very fun game with great replay value. The order you choose the stages changes the outcome.
Controls are engaging, graphics are fun and the enemies are well thought out in particular the bosses.
Plenty of classic cameos in the game if you are a 80’s/90’s movie and video game fan.
A good buy for a cheap price, recommended.

This month we see developer Secret Base bring Streets of Red: Devils Dare Deluxe to the Nintendo Switch. It's a modern day homage to the 16 bit era of side scrolling beat 'em ups akin to the likes of Streets of Rage and Double Dragon. It is also available on PlayStation 4 and Steam depending on which format you have at your disposal.

The year is 20... something and its time once again for the Benny arcade EXPO, one of the worlds biggest video game events. Reporter Anthony has been waiting two years for this moment, the stage is set until something hellish happens! The world has gone to a dark place, zombies begin to walk the land and just like that things go from bad to a total **** storm. Enter our unlikely heroes, Kingston, Queenie, Jackson and Axel with additional unlockable characters Anthony and Jonathan. Trapped inside the event they are guided by a red fairy who is willing to grant them the powers to survive this horror in exchange for a small price. Naturally red fairy wants the souls of all the zombies they kill, seems reasonable if a little sinister.

The game is set across four levels, the sewer, train, hallway and road each of which are split into a number of stages. Completing the story mode is not the end of the game though as Streets of Red is designed to be played over and over again, each time offering up the potential for new content. The ever-growing level selection works to keep the gameplay from getting old, while the combat system allows for plenty of depth. Make no mistake, you are going to die and it's going to happen a lot. Another way to play, besides the story, is in the form of survival mode which does exactly what it says on the tin. The addition of co-op adds to the fun allowing for up to four players to get involved.

With a character selected the first step is to visit the convention which acts as a tutorial, running through the basics move sets and some of the specials. The majority of moves are shared across the characters just in different guises. Controls work well with its simple Smash Bros style setup, meaning the game is easy to pick up but offers reward for mastering. It gives the option to use the analogue stick or broken d-pad for movement which is my only gripe to be honest but, as always on this format, that's more an issue with the Switch opposed to the game itself. You are rewarded for every kill made so learn your moves and learn how they can help you earn a living, literally. Perform a fatality for some extra cash, and perform a bunch of fatality to get a free meal. This really helps in the later levels when the difficulty ramps up.

Streets of Red looks and sounds great, especially on the Nintendo Switch in handheld mode. Graphically designed to look like an old school 16bit game of the likes its mimicking that has been given an almost monochromatic make over. It makes the red blood, which is one of the few other other colours used, really stand out and have a greater impact. The game can be pretty graphic at times, one of the enemy zombies weapon is to throw a fetus at you whilst others pretty much just try to eat you. Streets of Red sounds great too, with a fittingly spooky retro soundtrack, funny voice overs usually harking back to some gaming or movie reference and realistic sound effects.

As just mentioned, for me one of the best parts of the game is all of the references to games, movies and more that Secret Base have packed in here. I'd say it just goes to show how passionate the development team are for all things geeky.

This is a great, great title and anyone who has an interest in modern retro gaming done properly should try this game... even just to help me find more game / movie references. For the asking price of £6.29 (UK) you are going to be hard pushed to find another game of this quality that's crafted with such care and attention to detail. With all of the in-game achievements and unlockables there is plenty to keep you coming back time and time again. Its a highly enjoyable experience in single player and even better with friends in co-op mode.

There is some humour to the game which I appreciate and the bosses are nice, but most of them are easy. I played with Alex and I beat the game on my third time (normal difficulty). I was pleased to see 2 more levels and a final boss (Ivan which is actually quite hard|) after the 10 nights. Great game to bring on the go and it deserves an 7.5 in my book. The game is not that long, but I think it is worth the price. Expand

This game is like if all your favourate 90s brawlers woke up from a very well rested sleep in today's modern ages and just picked up where they left off...... With zombies..... And humour! Best Indie game I have played on the switch (or anywhere) in a long time! Worth the very fair price tag and a great 3 hour playthrough... Then another 3....then another... And another.....

Streets of Red is a fun take on the brawler genre. It's bloody, somewhat gory, and smooth in regards to gameplay. I enjoyed the added combo, and fatality system. The way it was implemented is genius. By keeping the controls simple, but changing the way actions were accounted for you could pull off some sick feats in-game. Amazing Beat-em-up. Great game to take on the Switch as a playthrough takes around 2 hrs. Even though the game is short, the replay value is great as there are 6 characters to play as, Multiple bosses to fight. Different modes and more.

The parodies and humor in the game are great. Seems like every playthrough I see another game or movie reference that makes me laugh.

Streets of Red is focused on the multiplayer. The duration of the single game is short and although it is graphically attractive, the sound is not up to par. However, it’s a very funny video game and totally recommended for the fans of the classic beat'em up.

Though the visuals and music may not be terribly exciting, the pop culture references crammed into every stage help to give the game lots of charm. Engaging gameplay, high replay value, and a great co-op experience make this one an easy recommendation for anybody looking for a little arcade game to play in short bursts either when alone or with friends. We’d recommend you give this one a look if you’re into arcade beat ‘em ups; for under ten bucks, this one’s a steal.
