this was a great little game. Finished it over 3 days. Initially gave me Stranger Things vibes. The intro especially. It was a bit awkward to start as it appeared to be super meta (im looking at a computer on a desktop interacting with that computer in small text.... is this the game?) but once you got into the swing of it. that first story takes a chilling turn. There are 4 episodes total. And each one is different , different setting, different context... different characters? Each has a pattern to the gameplay, but most revolve around the old text games from the late 80s that i remember. And they all mix elements of the "real" world. Im not very good at writing reviews and i don't want to spoil anything. But the writing for this game was very cohesive and tight beginning to end. It definitely made me feel things. its usually like 2.50$ . Totally worth it. Expand

The story of the game is excellent. Very good, but the whole gameplay is messed up on a switch in handheld mode. As it's a text adventure everything happens on the small computer screen (1/3 of the whole screen) which makes the text too hard to read. So if you play with it on a switch connected to a tv the score is 9 for sure.
If you play it on a switch in handheld mode or on a switch light the score is 2 at max.

Control issues aside, I still wouldn’t say that Stories Untold is a bad game. Indeed, if you like emotionally heavy games with interesting, underutilized mechanics, you’ll get that here — you’ll just have to go in understanding that, without a mouse and keyboard, some of those mechanics don’t work the best.

Stories Untold celebrates early adventure games with its narrative text format, telling a suspenseful story through limited visuals and thrilling narrative. It’s a compelling journey, and much of the excitement comes from one’s own imagination. It’s not a long game, but the tale kept me hooked. However, Stories Untold is not for everyone. Players not used to the text format may find the gameplay tedious or unintuitive, especially given how the Switch version handles command inputs. Players who enjoy the format may not appreciate the modernized escape game room sequences in later chapters, which stray away from the first episode’s traditional style. If this describes you, these stories are best left untold.

Stories Untold is about the haunting feelings and stories we haven’t told even ourselves. It’s about unraveling the truth and facing our fears. For players looking for a new episodic thriller, Stories Untold was an amazing way to kick off 2020 on the Nintendo Switch.
