Aside from a few technical blips, Stardew Valley remains a shining Stardrop in its genre, welcoming back fans of the series that inspired it and inviting newcomers to relax in the valley, too.

It is a truly magical experience; games can often be enjoyable but they don’t all manage to be as captivating as this. This is the sort of game that ideally requires a significant amount of time to be invested; the enjoyment doesn’t necessarily come from the day-to-day actions you perform, but rather from the general growth of pride, satisfaction, and sense of security as the days go by. Fans of games such as Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing will be right at home here and, for those who aren’t, there is a decent chance this game might just surprise you. For the asking price the risk couldn’t be more worth it.

The portability of the Nintendo Switch makes this undoubtedly the best way to play Stardew Valley. Unless you are really keen on modding the game, the combination of easy portability and excellent controls makes this a staple in any well-rounded Switch library. It's still the same great farm simulator it was on PC - robust, full of secrets, and comes with an inescapable charm that will keep pulling you back in, season after season.

The best farming sim ever finds its ideal home on the Switch, with gameplay and hardware that complement each other perfectly.

Another classic game that I picked up thanks to the Switch. This game is so fun!! There's so much to do, it's like hours and hours of content.

Stardew delivers short 20-minute days where you try to farm, fish, mine and socialize as much as you can to build an empire out of your deceased Grandpa's farm.

Pros and cons from top to bottom:
Pro: Loads of features: multiplayer, multiple farm layouts, dungeon crawling and crafting, for as start.
Pro: Loads of content: I blew over 120 hours on this game and rarely felt like it was too grindy or boring (assuming you can deal with the repetitive style of Farm Sims) .
Pro: The cast is genuinely interesting once you get to know them. I like that they have flaws like the Mayor who won't acknowledge his romance with one of the other townsfolk and the bachelor who gets blackout drunk on a few occasions.
Con: The hero's inventory is too small, I don't mind leaving some stuff behind, but it starts out puny and ends not quite big enough. (granted also true for most games in the genre)

    Other minor notes:
    - The fishing mini game is too "hardcore" for some players.
    - Soundtrack is one of the best I've heard in a farm sim (granted not a strength of the genre IMO).
    - Graphics are obviously "just" 16-bit, not a big deal to me, but there it is.
    - The big Community Center quest forces you into doing a bit of everything, you'd have to ignore it if you don't want to fish or mine, for example.
    - You could get loads of mods by playing on PC, I don't care, but you might.
    Replay Value:

    - I spent over 120 hours on my first play-through and never found myself bored.
    - Between multiple farm layouts, endless customization on the farm, and the usual romance/marriage cycle, feels like lots of replayability.
    - The game is generally pretty easy, minus the fishing game and some of the mining.

Dollar Value: I’d pay around $70 CDN (Roughly $50 US) for this game, way over the actual asking price. Stardew Valley is the king of the genre as far as I'm concerned.

    Fun gameplay
Good story (don't expect an epic amazing storyline but it's pretty good writing for a video game and has a lot of heart)

    Cons:
Character portraits are sort of ugly
    Repetitive gameplay
    Combat isn't that great
Controls are annoying (it's easy to accidentally skip an important cutscene, give away a priceless item or blow up half your farm by pressing the wrong button)

Poured about 200 hours into this game and I still have lots left to do.

Being portable makes it easier to play anywhere and I often lose track of time playing it. One of the most enjoyable games I played in a very long time: it's addictive to grow you farm, complete quests and do a ton more things. I'd give it a 9 or 10 if I didn't lose a 40 hour save to a bug.

Besides that, this game is simply amazing. You can do whatever you want.

Besides that, this game is simply amazing. You can do whatever you want. There's no rush to complete things unless you put that pressure on yourself. You can marry candidates of either gender regardless of your gender. There's mining and fishing and farming and honey and wine and... omg just play it already.
