It's definitely Harvest Moon with lots of refinements in the story and level design.
I really feel like I belong in the valley.

The highlight in the farming game genre. Fun with hundreds of hours that can be spent learning about the characters in the game, making your farm better and better, and adventuring in the caves. It's the best combination of relaxing after a bad day at work and satisfactory progress in the town of the game. The game is really deserving of this score and your time.

I have played Stardew Valley on the PS4 and on my Ipad and I have to say, it fits really good on the Nintendo Switch. Especially on the handheld mode. Great relaxing game. Its a must have for the Nintendo Switch!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Every day the walls seem to get a little closer. Did they move the desks in the office last night?

    ....

Your grandfather gave you a sealed envelope when you were young.

Old guy said don't open it until you need to.

    ...

    Today's the day.

Hey look, the old guy left you the farm. After he bought the farm. Sweet. Imma get some hoe time.

Stardew Valley is the happiest little bubble universe you've ever landed in. Live the dream as you get a house and a ridiculous amount of land for free. You're immortal - you don't need to eat. If you die, you may lose some items to scavengers and scallywags. It may even cost you a tiny percentage of your wealth. But you will awaken safe and sound to nothing more than a little note in your mailbox explaining what miracle of cooincidence the universe needed to provide for you to LIVE.

So, you don't need to eat and you can't die. And if you play long enough, you'll realize you don't age either.

So what can you do? Make the land awesome. Grow stuff. Chop stuff. Milk stuff. Sell stuff. Eat stuff. Hit stuff. Dig stuff. Gather stuff. Kill stuff. Well no, you do that elsewhere.

Meet all the cool people in town and learn their routines so you can show up before they do - when you choose one of the eligible marriage candidates and want to focus your efforts you will channel Bill Murray's Groundhog Day as you learn where they will be on which day... and be waiting for them. it's not creepy, it's romantic!

Manipulate them through gift giving to love you like a dearest friend and share their innermost secrets with you. They'll also give you free stuff.

Enslave animals to produce raw goods you can refine into more fattening ones to sell in your magic shipping box! Keep them locked in their quarters or allow them to roam free about the farm so that you can touch them as you pass. For you see, these animals respond to affection well.

I particularly enjoyed the fact the game allowed me to choose if I wanted my animals to freeze over the winter or not. Once they love you enough the cold doesn't do enough to really affect their production, so you can save money on heating.

Vegetable piracy is another great feature. You can purchase your seeds from the shop in town (ASSUMING IT ISN'T WEDNESDAY BECAUSE GOD FORBID HE'S EVER OPEN ON A WEDNESDAY) and grow them to term. Then you can use a machine to turn them into more seeds. Grow yer own!

You do really get to know the villagers over time as you play the game, and that's what endears this game to me. They've been updating content constantly since I've been playing it to add new encounters, seeds, wacky stuff and new places to explore. It's a solid game on all platforms and the only thing that keeps it from 10/10 is no interplatform coop. I hope one day they find a way.

One thing to note is you can port from PC to some of the mobile versions, and it's pretty cheap so we own it on a few different systems.

Buy the farm, be happy. Chill out.

Sometimes I'm picky when it comes to pixel graphics and the idea of farming combined with pixel graphics made me hesitate to play the game. It looked so tedious. As a lover of farming games, I got past that fairly quickly and the graphics aren't even a downfall.

I basically love everything about this game. I grew up playing a lot of the older Harvest Moon games so this was incredibly nostalgic for me. Stardew Valley essentially takes the best pieces of those games and mashes them together. I don't really have anything else to say other than that.

I only have one complaint and seems to be specific to the Switch version. There are occasional frame rate drops and inexplicable pauses that are actually really disruptive. While walking around the mines, sometimes the screen will just freeze but my character will keep walking, sometimes right into enemies and I wind up dying. It's also caused me to miss getting to sleep on time by a few seconds once or twice. Frustrating but not the end of the world.

Overall it's just an amazing casual game. I would skip the Switch version and get it on PC though. The PC version gets quicker updates and has mods, among other things.

Imagine Animal Crossing if the player had an active role in progression. The game is super relaxing and engaging, providing plenty of options to the player at any given moment. Many ways to play and has a brilliantly made co op that makes it almost infinitely replayable. As a bonus it probably has the best fishing minigame of any videogame. Despite all this praise, the game isn't perfect, there are occasional graphical issues in some of the areas of the game that look kind of ugly and there are multiple npcs that are not at all fleshed out. The heart system is arbitrary for characters like Sandy and the Dwarf and the child system is both boring and pointless. It's much more fun to sacrifice babies than raise them tbh. This is my 4th favorite game out there and I'd highly recommend it. 300 hours in and I'm sure that number will continue to rise Expand

An astonishing labor of love made by one person. While it seems simple at first, the game becomes increasingly deep and complex. Super satisfying and relaxing to enjoy, plus the coop mode is a blast. Only minor complaints would be the clunky dialogue and non-existant NPC AI (villagers can't navigate obstacles).

you do need to have the wiki open and do a bunch of research before being able to finish the game. This does not mean that the is not enjoyable. It's super fun. But I literally had to have a little real to do list and multiple tabs open to beat it. Kind of helped my depression in a way I don't fully comprehend as well. Just got me excited about doing mundane tasks.

As a longtime fan of Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons, this game is delightful. Even putting those biases aside, it's a very fun games that's bound to suck up hours upon hours of your time. Only gripe would be that the actual content feels pretty thin at times, but what more could you expect from a $15 title?

The portability of the Nintendo Switch makes this undoubtedly the best way to play Stardew Valley. Unless you are really keen on modding the game, the combination of easy portability and excellent controls makes this a staple in any well-rounded Switch library. It's still the same great farm simulator it was on PC - robust, full of secrets, and comes with an inescapable charm that will keep pulling you back in, season after season.
