If we're just reviewing KotOR as a game and leaving the porting out of it, it's an easy 100/10. It's one of those games that has a special place in a lot of people's hearts, and even after all these years, its story and gameplay mostly hold up. The characters are incredibly memorable, the locations will make any Star Wars fan smile, and the plot twists are still awesome.

The port itself isn't the worst thing in the world. I mean, you're playing KotOR on a handheld, that's amazing. But I have a few little niggles. Why do I have to push so many buttons to save, which you should be doing regularly? Even more buttons to check the map, which can be frequent if you don't already have the game memorized. And as so many people have pointed out, THAT COMBAT STATUS BOX. How Aspyr let the game ship with that is beyond me. It's such an obvious fumble. I imagine every single player, before they get off the first tutorial ship, will notice it, head to Google, and be disappointed when they find that there's no option to adjust it. I have to dock a point just for that one thing. I'd have loved some little QoL things like quick-saving and one button map access, but that status box is almost unforgivable. So, 10/10 for KotOR, 6/10 for the port, and we can call it even at 8.

Update: 2 months later and there is still no update. Looks like the game will have no support. I do not understand how those bizzare text boxes passed through their testing. The worst thing is that almost all reviews mentioned those huge text boxes but they have not fixed it. Do not buy this game until they fix it! It is unplayable.

Looks much better than the mobile version but I would

Looks much better than the mobile version but I would appreciate some changes related to the subtitles and the huge status pop up. Subtitles have no margin and the text is placed right next to the border. Battle status is placed in the huge pop up that takes 1/3 of the screen. Why is it that huge? I have also met several graphical issues. If they fix the text positioning and the pop up size it is gonna be a solid 9.

Fantastic port of a masterpiece game. Aspyr did a great job. I would like some quality of life improvements in KOTOR Remake like area of effect looting and better inventory. But this is as good as it get. I got it on preorder, had zero issues, played about 60 hours and finished the game on both Light and Dark side. No issues whatsoever. Rarely seen on ports. Thumbs up, will play again. AndFantastic port of a masterpiece game. Aspyr did a great job. And it's cheap! One of the cheapest yet best RPGs of all times.

Even with a new release this game still has game breaking bugs, was inside the ebon hawk and got to the turrent part of the game, instead of dying the screen goes black so i have to quit the game and start 2 hours of progress all over again. atleast fix the bugs in this game before realising it.

DnD but Star Wars was not what I was expecting at all. And as a Star Wars fans and a DnD fan I kinda hate this. DnD you get to built your character find broken combos, have fun with friends and imagine these epic. And in this it’s just your guy swings a sword or fires a gun waits 3 seconds then does it again… you might need to use an item to heal every now and then. A solid Star Wars game port from Aspir that is not only (almost entirely) glitch-free, but also a timeless experience in a wholly separate timeline from the movies, letting you customize your jedi or sith in any way and be immersed in this incredible story with layered combat.

Coming back to this title after nearly 20 years just felt soooo good! The memories, the characters, the sides you visit….the best Dark Lord in SW games you can have. With KotoR, Mass Effect and Dragon Age Bioware build its foundation and should just stick to it. I hope the Remake adds some more content even, cannot wait to see this in current gen. Too bad that there is no KotoR2 in the store, I would just buy it straight away.
This is a masterpiece – thanks for the opportunity playing this again, actually this was my first Switch game as the kids normally use it.

The great thing about KOTOR is that despite the fact that it looks a bit rough, and some of the voice acting isn’t that great, the lore and storytelling were always the game’s greatest strengths so what is most vital absolutely still holds up. The story takes place very much in its own time and place, helping to distance itself from the associated baggage of the Skywalker saga while still capitalizing on peoples’ fascination with the Jedi and the Sith, who this confirms have been locking horns for quite some time. Whether you’re eager to jump back into a world you enjoyed inhabiting quite some time ago or are simply intrigued to see what all of the accolades have been about this Switch release is a great way to enjoy the game whether on your couch or on the go.

I haven’t played the game in almost 20 years since it’s initial release, and it instantly sucked me in.

For those coming from the original XBOX game it’s even prettier, a few bugs fixed, and the storyline is just as magnificent. The only complaint is that on switch the game clock keeps running while in the Switch menu screen—so you won’t get an accurate account of how long you’ve spent in

This game is...disappointing for me,you may need to restart the whole game just for a few mistakes and if you die you just go back to the point you were previously at,even in sale I still regret purchasing it.

It's a strange one. There couldn't be a title that's more due of a remake yet also still a really good time as Knights of the old Republic. Although it came out around the same time as when the prequels were in cinemas, it has more in kin with the classic trilogy insomuch as what was once cutting edge is now low-fi and that very aspect comprises a large part of the charm. Not without issues, but to focus on those issues in the harsh light of day would feel too much like pestering an old person for losing their teeth - an influential old person, with lots of great stories. So, while a remake is most welcome one does wonder if it'll lose something in the translation about what makes this version work. It's the OG that captures the scale of the Star Wars Universe unlike any other Star Wars game. It absolutely deserves play in 2022.

    A game with such a grand reputation deserves better than this bare-minimum approach of a port. [Issue #57 – January/February 2022, p. 21]

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a solid evolution of the CRPG genre, and the Nintendo Switch is a wonderful way to experience this classic. For $15, it’s basically a steal. I’m hoping Aspyr gets a chance to revive its sequel next, because from what I’ve heard that seems to take more thematic risks. I’m also glad that this version is as good as it is, because it’s great for it to be preserved before the upcoming remake comes out.
