I'm going to be honest, I love this game to bits. (Haha, gettit?) While it is relatively short, it's price is low enough to still justify you buying it. It has a fun core mechanic of jumping above enemies and spraying them with ink to neutralize them, and a beautiful visual design to go with it. The audio is lovely as well, just like having our main character bump up and down in time with the beat. But to me, a certain highlight of this is it's cuteness. The little introductory dialogue and the few npcs I met along the way brightened up my day with their little quips and adorable designs. If you're looking for challenging plattformer, then you better look elsewhere, but if you're just looking for a good time, I definetly recommend this game! Expand

This is a fun, silly old school game boy game of the original style. It's like sliding a cart in a playing something old, albeit more sudo retro and therefore more fun.
Talk to the squids, play in one go (it's short and you can just leave the switch on, you couldn't do that with a Gameboy layden with batteries back in the day) get to the castle, maybe

Fantastic game that will make you smile. Simple but fun gameplay, adorable characters, and really catchy music.

The next time it's a rainy afternoon and you're feeling stressed, you could do a lot worse than sinking a couple of dollars into the eShop and spending half an hour as a little green squid. [Issue #45 – March/April 2020, p. 23]

If you have an inkling for retro platformers, Squidlit is a must-have for the Switch. The overall aesthetic perfectly captures the essence of what made the Game Boy successful, although it is let down by the gameplay elements, which offer little challenge.

The eShop listing for Squidlit advertises that it “ does everything it can to be as accurate to the original hardware as possible,” and while that may be true, I can’t think of a Game Boy title that would be less appealing or enjoyable than Squidlit. There are only one or two interesting uses of its core gameplay mechanic and no discernable challenge in any of its stages. If your favourite genre is retro platformers in that familiar yellow-green that feature squids for protagonists, Save me Mr Tako is an infinitely better game. Even if you have a religious attachment and nostalgia for all things Game Boy, Squidlit just ain’t it, Chief.
