Jul 8, 2024Ultimately, this game is an exceptionally charming and cute look at the life of a little girl and her family, and can tug at the heartstrings. The immense variety in minigames is fun, and there are so many little challenges to accomplish throughout the game that there is always something to work towards. There is a large selection of cosmetics as well, which provides an extra little boost of joy through getting to dress up Anya and do her hair, as well as other family members. Whether or not someone knows Spy x Family well, Spy x Anya: Operation Memories is a true joy to play for a relaxing, cozy experience.

Jul 7, 2024I enjoyed Spy x Anya: Operation Memories more than I expected, even though this Spy x Family game occasionally feels a bit awkward and repetitive. I would have appreciated an easier introduction to the experience and less hand-holding, but it’s thoroughly pleasant and true to the series its based on. As long as you’re not trying to speedrun it or marathon it in a single weekend, I think it’d be a lovely game to play at a relaxed pace.

If you're not a fan, you might not find much reason to play this game.

Jul 4, 2024Thanks to a very pleasant visual and sound component (with some hesitations during the more challenging mini games, especially those in the company of Yor), Operation Memories knows well which audience to address and hits the target overall, but it should be played in small doses. In this sense, the Nintendo Switch version is the one most suitable for hit-and-run games: on the other hand, repetitiveness arises quickly if you don't experience the daily life of the Forgers little by little. The idea of immersing ourselves in the lightness of the slice of life aspect of Spy x Family is a winning one, and in this respect Bandai-Namco's work is a constant hymn to good humor, where fan service reigns supreme. However, the somewhat invasive internal currency system and a gameplay loop that quickly tends towards redundancy do not allow Operation Memories to express its maximum potential. With greater care it could have been much more "elegant".

Jul 9, 2024If you’re a fan of the anime, Spy x Anya: Operation Memories will feel like a relaxed, slice-of-life side-story, complete with wholesome, adorable moments and some fun interactions between the characters you love. The stakes are low and the gameplay is perhaps too easy, but it's a good way to unwind after a busy day. Between the wealth of minigames to choose from – some of them actually quite good, others lacklustre – and the dozens of outfits to put the Forgers in, anime fans will find a way to play that suits them.

Jul 20, 2024With all that, what you’re left with is a sort of checklist-style experience. You go to each ooting, fill stuff out, unlock new clothing items and collectibles, and do that over and over again. If you’re the kind of player who finds satisfaction in a low-pressure grind to simply gather a bunch of things until you’re done, that’s the kind of system you’re engaging with here. If you’re a SPYxFAMILY fan and think Anya is insufferably adorable, there’s a lot of fun in simply hanging out with her and snapping photos of her legendarily goofy facial expressions. But if you need a little more substance and goal-oriented action in your games, you won’t really find that here. I found my interest deflating quickly, especially after giving all the minigames their first tries. The game may as well have been over after that point, and any further cravings for this IP were better met firing up Crunchyroll or opening up a book.
