Works good on Switch but the fact that many levels are dark as hell it’s hard to play in in daylight, which may be important to someone who like me bought it for a holiday trip:) anyway the game turned out to be pretty good survival horror with unique and well developed world and puzzles. Highly recommend if you like SH, RE and Returnal.

Genuinely my game of the year. I've always liked Resident Evil and Silent Hill, and this game does owe a lot to both, but the spin it puts on the mechanics and the entirely different tone and storytelling method is just fantastic. Starts off strong, gets stronger. Also, contains some of the most effective cosmic horror I think I've ever experienced. Just genuinely stellar.

Hands down the best survival horror game of the last 15 years, and one of the best games I’ve played period. If you love Silent Hill 1-4, you owe it to yourself to play Signalis as soon as possible. It’s a masterpiece.

"SIGNALIS is one of those games that does almost everything right. It’s hard to show off its beauty and how intriguing and compelling the narrative is through mere words and screenshots alone. Much like the eldritch tome featured within, the very essence of the game just seems to insidiously fill your soul and makes it impossible to put down.""SIGNALIS is one of those games that does almost everything right. I only played this game because my brother keep talking to me about it. I got fed up and bought it on PlayStation 5. I don't regret my decision. Biggest downside for me is still the art still of the chapter 2 (or Kaptitel 2 liminalität for those who know) were the background felt out of place. Maybe i just got use by the 3D/pixel art of the chapter 1 too much.

Absolutely loved this game. The comparisons to late 90s survival horror are accurate, but I think it really does a disservice to describe the game only through that lens. This is a BEAUTIFULLY original story and it was brave AF for the developers to take an art-house style presentation to the psychological horror, which really has never been done to the extent Signalis does it. It easily could have come across as pretentious or distracting from the gameplay but it artfully knows where that line is and tightropes it through all ten hours of the story. Highly recommended. I purchased this game seeing a snippet of the trailer, really just being drawn to the visual style. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I became invested into the story and how keen I was to solve it’s opening puzzles. Was also slowly realising something very familiar was going on yet so very unique. I was playing a game that had combined flavours of survival horror, post apocalyptic sci-fi and Japanese animation. I was warped into a future I wasn’t expecting but was so happy to be launched off into this journey of mystery.

The visual style is excellent, the music is perfect with some tasty surprises, the sound design is legit on the money; all these elements support a gripping and mystifying storyline. The environment, character designs, controls and in-game menus are all thoughtfully crafted to allow the player to stay immersed in this new world.

There is a flawed, glitchy, broken aesthetic that saturates the air of Signalis. The music is slightly warped and detuned, the environments are dirty and in disrepair. The visual and audible static, the silence, the distorted squelches; you are constantly reminded something isn’t quite right.

I was sad to complete the game yet equally satisfied. I felt I could have kept playing for months on end but simultaneously felt that it was the right time to conclude the journey. My thoughts rushed to hopes of a sequel but then thinking about it more, what an epic stand alone title it would be without any further entries. All I know is I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I am so glad that games like this are being created. The world bombards us with so much empty media to consume yet the fact that gems like Signalis exist is a wonderful thing. Thank you to its creators. Thank you for this work of art.

Great experience, so heavy atmosphere, looks like PS1, I just love it.
If you want a great horror like silent hill for 10h, its a must have.

If you are a classic survival horror lover, you will enjoy a great adventure, familiar and fresh at the same time, that quite cleverly reinvents all the tropes of the genre: limited inventory, returning enemies, puzzles that invite you to explore... All with a beautiful pixel art and a retro-futuristic imagery that you will love.

Fundamentally, Signalis is an accomplished emulation of PSX survival horror. Its graphics are both authentic to the era and perfectly disturbing. Taking place in a fascinating world and populated by threatening creatures, it’s a game I very much wish I could enjoy more than I did. The crushing limitation on the player’s inventory coupled with a reliance on memory puzzles that represent a genuine accessibility issue put me off wanting to ever play the game again to get an ending more satisfying than the rather unfulfilling conclusion I got. That’s a real shame, because it’s still one of the best retraux survival horrors out there. It’s just not good enough for me to love it like I want to.

By the end of it, everything swells together to create something that lingers in the back of the mind, gnawing away like a memory desperate to resurface. SIGNALIS is a game that I will never forget. And I will never forget the promise that was made between ELSTER and Ariane — of their love as selfish and cruel or beautiful and compassionate as it may be — that persisted through endless cycles of distortion and tragedy.
