    I would give this game a 9 out of 10 if you're looking for a vertical scrolling shooter. I'd say it's not quite as good as the Raiden games or Sine Mora but it's right behind them. The artwork is amazing and the boss fights are really cool. It needs a story and some more English subtitles because the names of the bosses aren't written in English. You have two different characters to choose from, the game takes about 45 minutes to beat and you have infinite continues. The focus is on getting a high score, there is an online leaderboard and you can play couch co-op. I'm very happy I bought this game and I highly recommend Shikhondo: Soul Eater.… Expand

    I think this game is more of an eyesight test than shmup.

    The tiny bullets of both yourself and enemies are red, but the backgrounds also have mainly reddish tones. Well, I am exaggerating slightly. One boss has blue bullets but surprise surprise, the backgrounds also turn blue. The gameplay itself is quite fun and due to the slow moving bullets, it would be quite good for beginners.    I think this game is more of an eyesight test than shmup.

    The gameplay itself is quite fun and due to the slow moving bullets, it would be quite good for beginners. It's just a shame that they couldn't make the bullets more clearly defined.

    The challenge in a shmup should be dodging bullets, not struggling to see them.    … Expand

    Nintendo switch! For a traditional top down danmaku, it's really cool especially with it's character design and themeing. The music is super cool, boss phases are really creative, and the gener enemy designs really create the world building! However I feel there's some technical refinements that really hinder the game from being better. Some of the backgrounds, ex. lvl one, are way tooNintendo switch! Some of the backgrounds, ex. lvl one, are way too bright that the scrolling effect absolutely creates a distraction from the bullet field. Most levels are okay in this regard but level one and 5 cause a big of an eye sore. Another thi g I've noticed is the bullets seem to have different hit boxes. Your hit box is a visual of a dot with a ring around it. Some bullets I can really squeeze with the fit inside the ring grazing. While some bullets seem to register and knock me out while touching the putter ring. It could really use some refinements. I bought this game in an indie pack and I'm hoping that any future updates actually reach that version of the game and not just the full release as well.… Expand

    Shikhondo - Soul Eater is a dessert shmup. Newcomers won't want to skip ahead to the last course of a meal because there are already so many other dishes to choose from, even at the same restaurant..

    Shikhondo - Soul Eater is a visually unique and very enjoyable shmup. That's really all there needs to be said. It's not as if there's some riveting plot or a fantastic ending to look forward to. In fact, the story is basically non-existent. Perhaps, instead of filling the screen with words, the developer chose to cram in some more bullets. That's fine - wonderful even. There aren't any distractions to keep players from performing their best. If the idea of navigating a sometimes literal maze of death grabs you, then consider giving this a go.
