Shadow of the Loot Box begins promisingly, presenting itself as a clever knife that’s willing to cut through the bullshit of the Triple-A publisher economy. Unfortunately, it quickly descends into a repetitive and unfunny indie shooter.

There are good ideas behind Shadow of Loot Box and it's certainly something to praise that the game intends to lampoon some contemporary game conventions which are far from gathering a unanimous appeal. Unfortunately this idea is poorly implemented and this FPS with RPG elements turns out to be a game that is way too simplistic and affected by faulty controls. Beyond a promising first level, Shadow of Loot Box quickly comes down and ends up losing its main selling points.

You did a very good thing making a game mocking the trash of "triple a" gaming. You may not know how to make a game we can actually play, but you really gave them what-for. You didn't actually say much from from what was playable, but oh boy did you try. Or did you take advantage of our hatred for disgusting, skeevy, predatory business practices and as a result became the very thing you swore to destroy??? You were my brother SoLB, use my money you took to pay for some game design classes. Full Review »

Dead zone % on both sticks are way too high, jump button is constantly unresponsive (half the time on both the joycons and protroller), diagonals are given equal sensitivity so strafing/panning up or down in a straight line is literally impossible. NO AIM ASSIST. No gyro aiming. No indication given when autosaving, or even that the game autosaves at all. No option to manually save. Game runs at an unstable 30fps undocked. Narrow field of view. Very slow loading to the title screen from the dev logo. Might be worth a play on PC with a mouse and keyboard, but the dev clearly has no experience with analog sticks. Copy-pasted NPCs. Palette-swapped enemies. Avoid. Full Review »
