This game has a lot in common with the punishing sprite chugging classics of yesteryear like Contra or Ninja Gaiden and the slick niche cult-indie games of the present day such as Dead Cells or Celeste in that; in order to enjoy it you have to have either a lot of skill or a lot of patience in order to attain said level of skill. While this challenge is exactly what I want I cannot fully give this game the score I want to just because it is what I personally crave.

This game is outstanding and at least in the list of the top 5 best games I have played this year. The story that the gameplay is wrapped in might not take a forefront at all but it is extremely interesting. The crunchy 8-bit like soundtrack shears through the beautiful sprite art and white flashes of blade leave a colorful trail of explosions that illuminate it's already beautiful backdrops. Scourgebringer will keep you hooked for hours or even days. This being said; if you have ever attempted to return a game because it was too difficult, you may want to sit this one out or hope for an older sibling with a serious set of skills.

I genuinely look forward to this developers very bright future in one that seems anything but for the rest of us.

Frantic, messy, and ugly. Nothing stands out about this game other than how rough it is visually and how frail the main character feels to play as.

A really good roguelite, this. It is however one of the most punishing games I've ever played. You can play almost flawlessly for 30+ rooms, only to mess up a bit in one room, and die very quickly. I honestly wasn't good enough to complete it, but still had hours of fun playing it. Definitely get it if you like tough as nails roguelites though - this is one of the tougher ones I've played. Expand

The fighting mechanics and agility of the character are fun to use, but it’s so manic that playing for extended periods would probably drive you mad. I mostly tap dash and mash the 2 main attacks because there’s no time to think about anything apart from clearing the enemies in order of threat. Not sure how long it will hold my interest because it’s more one note than games like BoI, butThe fighting mechanics and agility of the character are fun to use, but it’s so manic that playing for extended periods would probably drive you mad. I’ve only played about an hour of the demo available and I can already tell this is an amazing game. The gameplay is incredibly satisfying and fast-paced with interesting combat and enemy patterns, movement is smooth and feels good to pull off, and the story (the little i’ve seen of it anyway) was interesting enough to get me hooked in this world, wondering what lies within the deepest depths of the ScourgeBringer. I can see myself pumping hundreds of hours into this just like Isaac, Dead Cells, Gungeon and others before it, in my opinion a must-have for roguelike/roguelite lovers such as myself. Can’t wait to purchase this and top marks to the entire team who worked on this, you all deserve it. Expand

Incredibly tough but also highly rewarding. No other games let’s you FLOW quite like this one. I may never beat it but I’ll keep giving it one more try. This is what handheld gaming is about. Excellent, if impossible.

This game is very swingy with a high skill ceiling. You will eat dirt like 40 times in a row before you feel a sense of flow, but when you do the game becomes a non-stop rush of action and split second risk-management.

If you like hardcore action games that will test your patience but reward you extravagantly this game has your name on it.

The combat is fun and the combos available make the experience more engaging, while the game's presentation is a charm to look at, with extra points for its phenomenal soundtrack. At the same time, ScourgeBringer has nothing particularly new that can set it apart from its roguelite peers, and its difficulty level can sometimes feel unnecessarily exaggerated.

Another challenger in the crowded action-roguelite genre, ScourgeBringer delivers a challenging quest blended in lightning-fast gameplay.

Failing to have a great replayability and to vary the gaming experiences, ScourgeBringer offers players twenty hours of a challenge as hard as it is satisfying.
