    My main take away was that for a music based skating game, there is not enough music or skating. There are only 2 vocal song levels, something I personally think fit the game, and there's only 10 total levels and some of them just aren't great. Also the climax, where Zoe has the file and Kaito fights for it, why is it a qte fight scene instead of a full skating level a chase sequence works perfect for this contextually and ITS THE CLIMAX. The story is a decent prequel, the choice making parts are good and the visuals are pretty good and unique. The explorable environments were cool. It wasn't very well designed for switch, with a few minigames barely working with joy sticks, a few frame drops at important times, and general mediocre controls. 7/10 on not switch, assuming these are better on those platforms. It was a cheap indie game, I loved the original road 96 and hope they continue to grow as developers. The split worlds level was super duper good if the whole game was like that it'd be amazing. The lack of vocals later on and some mediocre music playing over cool visual levels hurt the game for me. Not saying instrumentals can't fit these or be good. I liked it!     I loved Road 96 and it might be one of my absolute favorite indie games. So, when they announced a prequel, I was pretty excited. Unfortunately, this game does not capture the magic of the first game. The story is very good, but the gameplay is simply not as interesting. The skating sections are a bit boring and this game misses out on a lot of the environments and story details thatI loved Road 96 and it might be one of my absolute favorite indie games. I do find the characters interesting, but the story they are going through simply isn't as interesting and the method of story telling isn't as interesting as the first game either. If you are a big fan of Road 96, this game might be worth checking out but you shouldn't expect it to be as good as the first one. If you have not played Road 96 before, just skip this game and go play that one instead.… Expand

    Road 96: Mile 0 is best taken as a prequel to Road 96 than a sequel to Lost in Harmony, but it’s interesting to see these worlds connect and find out what came after and before the last time we saw its main characters. Performance issues and a clumsy user interface really hurt this Switch version’s playability, dragging the experience down somewhat. This is a trip worth taking, but the Switch may not be the best car for this road.

    Mile 0 just isn’t as strong as its predecessor. It somehow feels both like there were too many and not enough changes made to the formula. Maintaining the dialogue options made the story feel diluted and weak, but abandoning the setting of the open road loses a key part of the game’s identity. It’s a hard spot to be in. This isn’t to say that Mile 0 is a failure, just that it doesn’t manage to improve on the shortcomings of the original or capture what made it work in the first place. The music is still very good and the characters interesting, but letting the player control their actions removes any potential agency and kills what could have been a great story.

    Road 96: Mile 0 is a fantastic addition to the world of Petria, and one that puts an emotional story of two teenagers’ friendship at its core. Stellar performances, an intriguing narrative, new musical ride segments, and a fantastic soundtrack help to bring everything to life wonderfully. However, performance hiccups and UI issues occasionally get in the way of the fun.
