A well ported game, now it has some framerate problems, but they will be fixed with patches. The game is interesting and looks good.

Awesome game, glad that they finally fixed all of the glitches! You start as a peon, end as a God. It's janky because it's not a Triple A game, but don't let that stop you from enjoying this game.

Its truly a master piece, one of the best game on switch. Devs made a real gift to switch players, delivering one of the marvelous rpg. It's polished - great frame rate, no bugs found; it's buitiful - unbelievable sunsets, terrifying storms, rich plant life, it is really step ahead unlike Witcher which looks too downgraded; it's challenging; it's addictively interesting story, its hidden gem!

So, the real problem 13 years ago were bugs. When you have PC - it's not a problem, you can start/restart/finish any bugged quest in the game.
But when it comes to console gaming - you just can't.
And you can ruin the game without knowing it if you kill some mob or pick up some item. Personally I'm stuck with druid quest - the NPC (Cedric) is just not talking to me. I am not sure that

I am not sure that developers are gonna release a patch for 13yo game, but releasing a buggy game on console is a bad move.

Pretty nice game. I played that on the egg ns emulator. It's nice that game from my childhood could be played on a mobile phone

In 2005-08, this game probably would have blown me away. But in 2023, this game shows its age. The fact that the devs didn't upgrade this game in anyway is almost a slap in the face. I don't mind the games difficulty because its a product of its time. I don't necessarily mind the graphics because of the same. I don't mind the opaque-ness. I don't mind the sluggish combat. Especially when BotW, TotK, Skyrim, The Witcher, and even Kingdom's of Amular, and Dragon's Dogma all do it better. Hell the game could have even been re-done in the vein of Risen 3 which is very good. Alas, this is what was made. Maybe good for some, but not all. Expand

Risen is certainly of its time and place, but depending on your inclinations there isn’t anything wrong with that. I do wish the framerate in this port had been locked down rather than allowed to run wild, but otherwise this is Risen on your Switch in all of its late aughts glory. It’s not a game that will make things easy on you, especially in the beginning, but if you stick with it you’ll find it gives back a lot more than what you put in.

Piranha Bytes has, throughout its history, been really quite effective at capturing an “X-factor” that elevates its games to be something more than the sum of its parts. These are games made by people that love RPGs, for people that love RPGs, and while they’re not of the same scope or refined as something that comes from a BioWare or Bethesda, they are made by people who have clearly played so many sessions of Dungeons & Dragons. They know how to keep an RPG fan playing on, and Risen is an excellent example of that. I’m very glad it had a release on Nintendo Switch, finally got to play it (even if I needed to source it from overseas).

Despite some performance hiccups, Risen on Nintendo Switch is a must-play for RPG fans, be they familiar with the original or not. Featuring a fun, albeit clunky, combat system that gives a great amount of freedom, and a great story in a mysterious land, it’s great to see Risen rise once more.
