I've missed every other release of this game and I was super happy to see it arrive on Switch so I could finally get it.

It is a bit dated game of course, and not really a groundbreaking experience but I really like how it plays on the Switch. Never before have I played a shooter on joystick and not felt frustration. Motion controls are decisively good and it really makes going for head

It is a bit dated game of course, and not really a groundbreaking experience but I really like how it plays on the Switch. Never before have I played a shooter on joystick and not felt frustration. Motion controls are decisively good and it really makes going for head shots and even scanning for items in the game feel like a joy. If aiming seems too hard the difficulty options can also make your game less frustrating, offering plenty of slack in accuracy and supporting more casual style gaming.

This aspect really shines in the Raid-mode that sends you through the game areas with guns blazing for experience points, upgrade currency and weapon drops. Game play quality is very solid & steady and the linear nature in levels with auto-saving actually kind of suits the play style where you can just play for 10 minutes or 10 hours and later pick the game up again.

If you like RE series and perhaps haven't experienced Revelations before or just want something casual to play they do give you a good deal on the game. Buying either Revelations game will give you 20% off the other by the way!

The idea with the scanner that allows you to find hidden items and fingerprints is what took me to this game) I am a slow gamer that likes entering each room, each corner searching for some loot or ammo, finding hidden safes and so on. I like when developers encourage attentive players with power ups and upgrades.
And here lies one little bad thing. Last chapters (which are obviously Boss fights more or less) don't give you the opportunity to use all your weapon upgrades and power, cause you'll mostly need your timing skills (f!ck you Devil May Cry and other franchises) and learning the patterns...
Other than that, it's an absolete jewel and walking slowly (yeap you cant fast run here) through the old mansion-look interiors will give you much nostalgia and warm feelings)

Brought it digitally for 2,500 yen (down from 3000 yen with a 500 yen discount for connecting my Paypal account to the Nintendo eshop). Just completed the story mode today, after about 25 hours of play, not including all the hours I've put into the raid mode.

It's lots of fun. Deffo worth what I paid. Ship setting is spooky, graphics are decent enough, some of the vehicle mini games

Story is rubbish, and puzzles are more annoying than difficult, but for the price overall I'd recommend it. I grew up with Resident Evil 2, and it reminded me of that, which is a good thing. Raid mode is good, but the later levels are too long and involve puzzles and mazes/swimming, which is annoying because I just want to run around shouting stuff. But it's something I'll probably keep coming back to.

I'd give it 7.5 out of 10, so I'll round that up to 8.

The game opening moments are a joyful throwback to glorious days of RE in PS1. Dark corners, creepy sounds, mutilated bodies and great atmosphere in an abandoned ship leaves a great deal of good impression on player and make them want more but it never quiet answers those needs. instead the game starts to go back and forth between characters to tell a story that is not very interesting but its told in such a exaggerated way to make it interesting and perhaps to make the game longer than it is. all the levels playing with Jill and its funny accented partner Parker are the best parts. You explore the ship, read journals that unfold the story and lore more and scavenge around for items using Jill scanning scope that at start feels interesting but it becomes a chore ish thing by the time you progress into story for 4-5 hours. these segments also involves exploring ship and also solving puzzles that are way too dated and simple even compare to RE1 remake standards. luckly back tracking is not much of boring issue, each time you track back there is high chance you run into different things. The map of ship is also designed very well and by end of the game you dont need to bring your map as you will easily navigate through it which is amazing plus. Other parts of game where you take control of other characters outside the ship are only made to tell you a little bit of story from different aspects and all of these parts are action packed. something I did not want much. I would have rather to have expanded ship map and more focused streamlined gameplay with jill.
Overall, its a really cliche RE experience but it does attempt to bring back a few important things that were forgotten since RE5. Enemy variety, horror, more suited environments to the whole nature of RE universe make this game very good

Resident Evil Revelations does exactly whats it sets out to do and actually manages to be a better game than RE5 and RE6.
But although the game brings a new take on the formula of these 2 previous games, it still feeds off too much out of their DNA to be its own thing.

But although the game brings a new take on the formula of these 2 previous games, it still feeds off too much out of their DNA to be its own thing.

The first thing that I have to say here is that it felt good having Jill Valentine back as a protagonist. Especially when you join with Chris later on. Jill's a very strong character for the franchise and I hope Capcom uses her (and a few others often ignored) better.
With that said, I also have to give credit to Revelations' new characters. I'm pretty sure that they'll never ever show up again, but Jessica, Parker and Raymond had their own strong personalities and motivations, aiding the plot to move forward with Jill and Chris.

Speaking of plot, the interconnected story in Revelations is good. It's Not amazing, but it got me interested. The whole FBC/Terragrigia revelation didn't make any sense to me, which kinda weirds things a little, but it works for the most part. Sure, the writing is still VERY cheesy, like a 'B-Movie', but that's part of RE's classic charm at this point. The only problem is that it is very inconsistent in its constat change of characters and that problem leaks to the gameplay.

Jill's campaign is great and the game should've just been that. Exploring the ship carries a bit of RE4's taste and the level design, although not perfect, is decent. But when you go back and forward in time, with different characters, in different places, it slowly breaks the pace and atmosphere that the game itself builds up.
I mean, you go from elegantly doing puzzles and running away from Rachel with Jill, to completely changing your weapon loadout to play as two bland new characters (Quint and Keith) fighting hordes of hunters or an on-rails shooting moment with Chris, facing a giant worm monster, in a totally different map...

Add this to a few gameplay setbacks and Revelations starts losing a lot of its steam. The dodging mechanic sucks and it feels mandatory sometimes, using the Genesis isn't always fun or useful, movement is a bit clunky, inventory management is nonexistent, backtracking decelerate things and the final boss is the worst in the franchise.
And this is a shame because everything else in the gameplay DOES work. The atmosphere, shooting mechanics, Raid mode, cool unlockables, gruesome enemies (Rachel scares me), nice exploration and even SOLID water levels.

I am not sure how to accurately rate Resident Evil Revelations. I liked it a lot, but when I think too much about it, I can see its cracks. And there are plenty.
Maybe the game just works better on a 3DS, but I played it on the Switch, so I can't tell.

But it's a grower. Short and sweet, like a Resident Evil should be. But despite its mishaps, I definitely recommend it, especially if you're a fan of the series.

First Resident Evil game I've ever finished. A satisfying experience for a survivor horror game, where you must manage your resources and count on ability to survive. Sometimes it's hard as hell, but I think that is the proposal.

I like the graphics. If you are looking for something scary then go and play something different. Resident Evil Revelations isnt scary at all. The monsters are just stupid sometimes what makes it absolutely not scary at all. Furthermore your "partner" sometimes just stands around in the middle of the action. It was worth playing it but more then a 6 would be too good for it.

One of the laziest games ever made, if you enjoyed RE5, you may enjoy this one. It has a scenario system that every time sounds like you are watching a Mexican telenova, the drama is 100% , the graphics are 60%, the puzzles are 0% interesting. The game script sounds lake any other resident evil from the last 8 years. The game is so uninteresting that doesn't worthy the money.

Probably one of the best title of RE that I've played, this is a breath of fresh air with the underwater parts, and the best thing is that the main action is played on a ship, with all the atmosphere of a old mansion, keeping all the feel from the originals.

It’s worth the $8 USD when it’s on sale. The core gameplay is good, but gets repetitive. There aren’t legit classic RE puzzles. Combat is 99% of the experience. There’s some lite ammo conservation and spooks like classic RE (which is nice).

As a spin-off to the Resident Evil series of games, it's the most interesting one and I have been really looking forward to play it and it seems the Nintendo Switch version might be the best platform to play this game on.

Graphics is upgraded to HD, and it looks good both on TV and handheld, but since this is a port from an older handheld system such as Nintendo 3Ds the textures, lighting and models aren't as detailed as what we are usually seeing from modern Nintendo Switch games.

Controls is better in the Switch version as the gyroscope sensor of the joy-cons is utilized here, it's as smooth as motion control in Breath of the Wild when aiming. Going for head shots is much much easier with the motion control enabled. The control scheme also supports attaching the joy cons to a gun accessory (same if you played House of the Dead remake and have the gun accessory) but it is all optional. Even on handheld mode, motion controls for aiming is still present which is cool.

Audio, music is fine, sound effects is fine, I recommend headphones though when in hand mode it helps because enemies likes to groan a lot and you can easily pickup their location.

Gameplay, is the same with other platforms and since the core is developed more than a decade ago some aspects is not as smooth as the modern RE titles, dodging an enemy attack is not intuitive or hard to trigger, activating items requires that you are facing directly to it, quick turn around spin is different key combination in modern games (I play modern RE games on PS5), co-op AI is not very helpful in taking down enemies when you want it to, simpler puzzles that feels like time wasters, unfamiliar inventory system, knife attack is underwhelming, some boss battle is frustratingly difficult. But there are some new things that are cool, like the scanner device, can move while aiming, points system BP and stats after each chapter, story recap (when you haven't played for a long time), upgrade points for any weapons, on-screen map, 3d map. But overall, gameplay is decent and still fun to play.

Story and Content, is probably the reason why I wanted to play this, there is some mystery to unravel, though some cutscenes can be boring, but yeah just get along with the ride. The setting on a Queen Zenobia Ship is provides a great chilling atmosphere, some interiors reminiscent of older RE games. The extra game modes are fun and probably makes the cost of purchase more worthwhile.

For the scare factor, motion control, upgraded resolution, and the portability alone, this game and the sequel is a must have on your Nintendo Switch. 9/10.

The gameplay here is the weakest in any RE action title. And don't get it twisted this is an RE action title through and through. The attempts to pass off as some kind of Survival Horror game is pathetic. The game doesn't really know what it wants to be and ends up being a weak 3rd person shooter and a terrible survival horror game if you can really even pretend to call it one.

Resident Evil Revelations is a great entry in the legendary survival-horror series and a great fit for the Nintendo Switch. The bite-sized chapters make short bursts of play in handheld mode ideal, whilst also translating well to the big screen. Resident Evil Revelations on the Switch is a great campaign to run through, and a fun online mode to spend time with if you’re still hungry for more. It feels a little bit aged now, years on from its original release, but it plays better than ever on Nintendo Switch thanks to gyro aiming, high framerates, and a crisp, sharp resolution. Well worth jumping in for Resident Evil fans and anyone looking for a fun, handheld shooter campaign.

Revelations might be a bit older and it certainly can’t get rid of its 3DS origin. But in case you haven’t played it yet on another system, you’ll get a decent and competent port of game that managed to capture the spirit of the classic Resident Evils.
