Red Colony certainly isn’t the worst game. It has some aspects going for it, the art is beautiful and the underlying framework of an adventure/action game is certainly interesting. It just lacks the polish to push it over the edge. Red Colony is an interesting game for this genre, mixing over-the-top artwork and animation with a Resident Evil-like storyline. A game that harks back to the old days of gaming with its 2D side scrolling looks and manages to capture that resi feel it was going for. It has a few problems but I think it's very much a love it or hate it game. https://youtu.be/jCSoEAZK7rs

Dont really get hate for Red colony on the Nintendo switch i thought it was a decent little game for relatively low price point on eshop. Its kinda like a 2D resident evil title with alot mechanics like solving puzzles, fighting zombies etc. Plus you get to explore many locations like factorys, schools, homes during the outbreak. There some genuine scares to

didn't cost me much so I wont slate it too much but Ill have to point out one thing that grated
I beat it in just over 4 hours (no spoilers) and I died often I wanted more of the game thankfully there's another game RC2 may be time to play that too..with dinosaurs and even sexier women now that cant be too bad

"Red Colony definitely turned out to be a mixed bag, but I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t enjoy my time with it. Sure, it may have only taken two and a half hours to beat but the game is also pretty cheap. The game also certainly has a lot of flaws: the animation and sound effects are pretty terrible, the story is a little hit and miss, and there should be more enemy and puzzle variety"Red Colony definitely turned out to be a mixed bag, but I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t enjoy my time with it. In fact, if the devs can iron out these issues in a potential sequel, then I will be first in line to give it a shot!"

Red Colony very much feels like a first draft of a game, from graphics, to script, to programming, that was somehow released on the eShop as a finished product. This would be like buying a puzzle, finishing the border, and declaring it completed. Frankly, I’m not sure how anybody could look at this game and think it was ready for prime time. If the bugs weren’t there, it might get by on its “so bad it’s good” appeal, but in its current state, it’s a disaster. Homie Rollerz, you finally have some competition.

Overall, Red Colony is a fun game, but not a great game. I think if the dialogue was polished up, if the weapon system was rebalanced some, and if the puzzles were just a little more challenging, this game could have been something special. Like a house in need of work, it’s got solid bones. It just needs to be spruced up a bit. As it stands, you can beat the game in under 3 hours. I was entertained during my hours with the game, and I got several enjoyable jolts of adrenaline for my troubles. If you can look past the flaws, I think you’ll find an enjoyable experience.

With all of that said, like I said at the start of the review, this is the Plan 9 From Outer Space of video games, and taken in that context, it's still a weirdly good time, and may well end up earning itself a similar cult classic status for it.
