    I bought this game because I used to be a pretty big fan of the original version on my Android phone. Unfortunately, this game bears only a passing resemblance to the mobile version and- I never thought I'd say this- this game was better as a mobile app with its free-to-play mechanics. Unfortunately, this game bears only a passing resemblance to the mobile version and- I never thought I'd say this- this game was better as a mobile app with its free-to-play mechanics. The ability to acquire new monsters, level them up, evolve them, and build your team seems to have been completely removed. Instead you use one of 21 pre-made teams to progress through the game. This strips out just about any of the engagement or depth from the game, and renders it about as exciting as a visually impressive Bejeweled knock-off. The progression of these teams is also very hands-off, which leaves the player with very little to do except for drag around the little icons to try and make as many 3-matches as possible. To be clear, I was enough of a fan of the original version that I had actually spent a bit of money on its GATCHA mechanics in years past, and was actually super excited to see a version I could play on my Switch. Sadly, my excitement meant I committed the cardinal sin of not doing enough research before I bought the game, and now PADNSE and I are stuck with each other. The rating of two I have given it is meant to reflect the fact that it still is a functional game, the match three mechanic works, and there's nothing distinctly broken about it, but for anyone with any familiarity with the original version of the game it will likely prove to be a massive disappointment. Especially weighed against the fact that the mobile version is still available, is free to download, and easily has ten times the depth and engagement of this version.… Expand

    Very simple game but also very cheap, and with a great campaign, pvp online, local coop, and dungeon maker with upload/download system.
    Honestly, there's very few games so cheap and with such amount and greatness content.

    I thought the game was pretty fun. It was a huge improvement from Pad Gold but still not as good as the 3ds games. They got rid of making your own team and made it so you choose from set teams which was a bit weird. There is also micro transactions for the special egg machines. The gameplay is super fun though.     Puzzle & Dragons Nintendo Switch Edition brings the popular mobile game to the Nintendo Switch. It comes at a low enough price to give puzzle fans something to play for a few hours. Making your own levels and downloading others is a fun distraction, but overall there’s nothing new on offer here.

    Puzzle & Dragons: Nintendo Switch Edition is still quite fun, and it’s certainly better than Puzzle & Dragons Gold was, but this is still a needlessly limited take on the concept that removes one of the core aspects that makes the original game so great. I wish I could understand how we ended up with the monetization structure of the free-to-play mobile version while changing some of the things that have made it such a big hit for so many years. For less than a fiver you’ll get your fun out of this, but it could have been more.

    Puzzle & Dragons on console could be and should be so much more than this. The base game - the puzzling action itself - is so good, and we've already seen the proof that it works in a more expanded, ambitious project. Dumping the mobile game on Nintendo Switch, meanwhile, seems odd and pointless. I can't even play the mobile game here in Australia and I was still left wondering why anyone would think something this shallow and featureless would work on console.
