The new wild area is vast and dense with items to find and places to explore, and the 4 major questlines that take place within it take full advantage of that open feeling to create what feels like a true adventure to embark on, far surpassing anything the series had attempted beforehand.

The one quest that has any sort of major story campaign tells a charming tale that, while by no means large in scale, gives great lore and worldbuilding to the area, on top of a full character arc for one of the new legendary Pokemon that continues the trend of the base game and Isle of Armor focusing on strong character driven storytelling. The other major questlines are far more gameplay and exploration focused, with one requiring you to solve a number of admittedly very simple riddles to reach the legendary Pokemon and another having you traverse each of the three wild areas, including those within the Isle of Armor and base SwSh, to hunt down their respective legendaries. The latter of these quests is by far the more engaging of them, as it requires a great knowledge of each area and how to properly traverse it in order to even encounter these beasts, before being sent into a battle with them that can be rather challenging if you plan on catching them.

The last of these quests is more akin to the Diglett hunting of the Isle of Armor with some notable improvements. Instead of each footprint of evidence being in a specific location, they spawn randomly according the player's location, and while that does mean looking at a guide for them is impossible, it also means you will always be able to find a number of them so long as you're aware of your surroundings. This again takes great advantage of the open area to create a sense of exploration.

The new Dynamax Adventure mode is also worth praise, as it takes the concept of Raids from the base game and refines it into a more impactful and engaging experience than before. Rather than fighting one Pokemon with tons of shields and barriers, none of the giant Pokemon encountered have shields of any kind, making the challenge of this mode a matter of making sure you're efficient with your rental Pokemon and knowing what elements to take advantage of in each run. Should you stick with the Pokemon you have to take down the next raid? Or should you swap to a Pokemon more suited to defeating the final, more challenging boss at the end? Which route is the most suitable? You must make each of these choices in a fairly limited time frame, making each run both strategic and potentially nerve wracking. This mode is thus great fun and the reward being both legendary Pokemon of prior games as well as new clothing items for your character just adds to that.

Lastly, the Galarian Star Tournament which can only be unlocked once you've completed the main quests present in both the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra, acts as a nice bow to wrap up the overall SwSh package, bringing together trainers from across the Galar region, including both expansions, into a doubles tournament where they can team up and face off against one another. On top of being just a very narratively fulfilling way to end off this game which was always more focused on the many characters it introduced, this mode acts as a decent final challenge for the player to test themselves and try out different combinations. While its by no means extreme in its challenge, especially if you have and use Pokemon levels 85 and above, the double battle nature still offers a decent amount of strategy to be used and had, far more than the single battles the base game provided. On top of that, each combination of characters, both between the two opponents faced as well as they're interaction with your teammate, is paired with some great dialogue that just adds to the strong personality and dynamics of each character present.

As a whole, the Crown Tundra alongside the also quite good Isle of Armor makes the SwSh expansion pass a must buy for most anyone who purchased SwSh. If you played SwSh and really enjoyed it for the most part like I did, you'll love what's offered. And if you played SwSh, liked it, but felt it was lacking in some or many areas, I almost guarantee the expansion will give you what you felt was missing. As both an experience on its own and a sign of what's to come for the series, it is excellent.

Beside the fact that the game looks like made in 2002 for Nintendo Gamecube, the DLC is again pure minimalism. Example: If you ride your bike to the first cutscene, they don't even program the case that you are on bike, no, you just teleport on the ground. That's very nice from a billion dollar company. I mean i love pokemon but i hate when such companies steals money from the kids nowadays.

In reality, it's basically Calyrex speaking about the entire story and having you run for errands. And even like that, it has plot holes. It feels very lazy and badly written.
    2. The companion, Peony, is basically a grown up Hop/Hau. The three of them have the same personality. Identical I would say. They didn't even bothered writing a new one.
    3. The town is terribly designed. Just pay attention to the only 4 houses in the city. They re use exactly the same model for these just FOUR... FOUR houses, outside and inside.
    4. The habitants of the town argue how they've never seen Calyrex in person, and yet, when you catch it and have him wandering around the city behind you, nobody has even a single interesting dialogue in response to that. They act as if it wasn't even there.
    5. Peony is plot armor, as he resolves the conflicts of the story in a Deus ex Machina fashion. He just shows up and casually knows how to resolve everything.
    6. It's, in a nutshell, a one path journey to catching legendary pokemon, which just happens to have a side story in the middle.

The movepools are very much questionable, with the raid target able to purge buffs, as well ten turns limits per single battle, and four total KO per adventure. AI still acting like a joke, taking unnecessary every turn (Skill Swap every possible target one after another), buffing stats instead of attacking, or choosing moves that take two turns every time. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wouldn't say there's anything worthy in this DLC. It's actually worse than the previous one. The whole "story line" is that you are fed a bunch of legendary pokemon, and don't worry if you don't quite manage to catch them, you can always try again... Getting legendary pokemon used to be challenging in the previous games, but not in this one. Once you have caught all the legendaries, you get to challenge the gym leaders again in double battles. How exciting! But now that you have your kick ass legendaries that you had to catch, you can easily one shot all their pokemon.

All in all, this is a minimum effort from the developer's part. An average computer science student could have coded this whole expansion in a couple of weeks. It has the same graphic glitches as before... Pokemon who are supposed to follow you might disappear and respawn all of the sudden and the animations are very sloppy. Just look at the breathing animation of the main character in the cold sections of crown thundra... Does he breath once every 4 seconds?

You won't get your money's worth from just this. It should be $5. I can't condone this laziness.

Melhor que Island of Armor, mas ainda longe de merecer os preços que custaram...

Much better then the isle of armour but together still not worth the €30 if this and isle of armour where in the full game instead of the wild area it would of made sword and shield much better

Intro: The Crown Tundra is definitely the better half of the Sword and Shield DLC. With a sizeable area, solid roster of re-added pokemon with sprinkled in new ones, and the new Max Raiding activity to capture shiny and legendary monsters this is what a DLC for pokemon should be.

The good: This DLC allows you to journey to the Crown Tundra, a new wild Area that is quite larger than Isle of Armor and the OG Wild Area. You will be tasked to look for discovering the myths and legends of the Area in three separate main events including Calyrex, the Legendary Birds, and the Regis. This DLC also helps bring back many old pokemon to the roster, while they should have already been there, but still is nice to see more pokemon coming back into the game. This DLC also includes Max Raiding, a new activity that helps players capture old legendaries and ultra beast, some in which are version exclusive mons that can be caught if you link up with other players if the have the opposite version of you, by battling through several dynamxed pokemon. This activity also helps players shiny hunt even more by going through the lair so that is always a plus.

The Bad: I really wished that the story for this area was longer mainly. I felt while it did have enough content to last me around 6-7 hours, I just kept craving more things to get and do in this area. Other than that, this is definitely a better DLC than Isle of Armor by a long shot and was worth the bundle price of 30 dollars rather than being slapped onto a third game which is getting to be an outdated way of updating the game.

Overall: I say that the Crown Tundra is worth getting it and Isle of Armor. Both DLCs as a whole are fun, but the Crown Tundra is definitely the better experience and I loved how Gamefreak handled this. I hope to see them do this more in the future while buffing up the future game's post game.

Me parece que este DLC a sido mejor que el propio juego ,también cuenta con una especie de área silvestre rara que por cierto, aunque no lo sea es un mejor mundo abierto que el de leyendas Arceus.

the actually serviceable portion of Sword and Shield. Just wish it was a bit more fleshed out and that the whole main game was like this

The DLC is easily worth it if you like the base game. It adds two additional wild areas, grants easy access to dynamax Pokemon, allows a rudimentary crafting system via the cramomatic, hands out a mythical Pokemon, and yields lots of legendaries for you to collect. Not only that, but I found myself preferring the new wild areas because I could have one Pokemon follow me around.

One part of the game I haven't reviewed yet is the online battle system, available to players with Nintendo Switch Online. I was new to the system when it started, and I was excited to check it out. Problem is, it takes a while to figure it out. You can beat the story with just about any Pokemon team, but online, you have to figure out the meta, and I hate it. Right now, the rules allow for two Pokemon usually banned from ranked matches. So, as for an example of a meta, in singles, teams have Kyogre, Landorus, and Zacian. Let that sink in—not only is it incredibly annoying to fight, but you’re stuck fighting the same fight over and over. Other players aim to play a game of attrition, stalling a match (I think that’s like 30 minutes a match). I’ve made it to the highest tier, but I did so without a meta team out of principle. You can fight casual matches, but matchups found that way are rarely evenly matched. In the couple I fought, people just loaded up on legendaries and mythicals to fight my standard team of Pokemon. If you want to do well in the online battle system, you HAVE to understand the difference between IVs and EVs. IVs are easier to figure out than EVs. So it’s mostly "effort values" that will give players trouble.

This new story is fun, and the background is nice. But it's way too short : it could have been much better with some extra hours of story. Most of this expansion is farming.

    Hormse!

The best DLC ever made (so far), the max raid dungeon is the closest we’re ever getting to the return of rental battles and it doubles as the most enjoyable way to shiny hunt. Even if you aren’t sold on the isle of armor this alone is worth the entry and gives SwSh a reason to come back to even as a solo player.

Horrible DLC with fake gameplay time swallowed up by unskippable cutscenes. In actuality Diamond and Pearl had a better postgame and it cost less because you didn't have to purchase a garbage DLC.

A good DLC that marks the ending for the new, experimental path chosen by Game Freak and Nintendo for the Pokémon saga. The second expansion included in Shield and Sword Season Pass adds lots of contents and legendary creatures to discover in a brand new area.
