This game is abysmal and its only mission is to pander to nostalgia cravings and GO fans and it's honestly offensive to people who love franchise for the story and gameplay of traditional games.

If you read some of the reviews that people have left a lot of them don't even make sense. There are a FEW low rating that seem like they have taken the time to actually play, but remember the keyword is a FEW. I think this is another case of people bombing a game because the developers took the game in a different direction then what they felt entitled too.

I really like the way you have to catch Pokemon now, by actually throwing the Pokeball just like Pokemon go. This game is not for everyone but coming from a veteran who has played every Pokemon game created I really enjoy the game's simple feeling but I still get to relive my childhood. This review bombing is the reason why Metacritic is a horrible site. It seems like lately whenever game devs take a series in a different direction a huge fit must be thrown

This game represents the future that Game Freak wants to take the franchise and its commitment destroying the fanbase that supported Pokémon for more than 20 years in favor of Pokémon GO players. The biggest mistake of this game is the simple fact that it exists.

Overall, Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee are an enjoyable, if not easy experience that is worth a play, especially if you are a fan of the Kanto region.

I was playing pokemon let's go until almost reaching vermillon city. So far I can say: this is not pokemon, and it's fine that it is not. The experience with the game so far I like, it's simple, and for those who complain that they have removed content, I remind them where the pokemon saga comes from, when there were no comparable items, where nobody knew about ev or ivs ( I think there were not any), natures, abilities and so many examples. Pokemon let's go is a proposal that does not lie: it is a game to integrate pokemon go players to the stories of the franchise ... is it something that's wrong?

Regarding the difficulty ... well, I've relived my childhood mistakes (this time for underestimating it) against Brock, and I've lost ... yes, lost. The loss of random battles, has not made it easier, but I feel even more difficult (I hate to spend hours capturing) if it can be said that it is not a difficult game much less, but even more difficult than some of one's own main saga.

The graphic section ... as always gamefreaks has done a good job ... halfway, since in what is optimization has some fps slumps ... as always

I qualify the game with a 10, not because it is, since I think it is an 8-9 at the most ... I rate it with 10, since many have rated it very badly (too bad really) with a 0 or a 1 undeserved

The game kinda does suffer a little. The lack of using the Nintendo Switch Pro controller with motion controls. It's a huge let down since I only just bought a pro controller to avoid using the Joy-cons that are too small on my hands. That's pretty much it for my review. Caught every single Pokemon within 30 hours and I am greeted with good screen that celebrates my hard work. No spoilers ;)

Forward: If you're considering the game, don't be put off the by the low Metacritic score. Many "fans" of the series didn't like the changes made in this installment and are rating it 0 despite never having played it. In actuality, this is a great installment in the series and I hope some of the changes are carried forward into future titles. Now, onto the review.

Graphics and Audio: Let's Go certainly has the best graphics of any mainline Pokemon game. It looks exactly like you imagined it as an 8-year-old playing on the GameBoy. They are smooth, charming, and true to the series. Additionally, the updated Gen I soundtrack is a pleasure to listen to as you make your way through Kanto, and it's the perfect dose of nostalgia.

Controls: Controls are the weakest area of the game for me. Touch support is only partially implemented (works when interacting with your Eevee or Pikachu, but doesn't work in menus). Additionally, motion controls are forced when catching Pokemon, which could easily have been made optional. The amount of motion required is minimal and it doesn't take much skill, but the option to not use motion would have been nice. My biggest gripe is that the game can't be played with the pro controller or with 2 joycons detached. If the joycons are detached only one can be used, which seems needlessly restrictive.

Gameplay: One of the best things about Let's Go is the removal of random encounters with wild Pokemon. Gone are the days of inching through caves, battling random ****** every other step. Now you can see wild Pokemon right from the overworld and choose what you want to catch, rather than hoping each encounter is what you wanted. Trainer and gym battles (the battles you actually want to have) have stayed the same as past offerings.

Another quality of life improvement over R/B/Y is that HMs have been replaced by "special moves" so that they don't take up move slots. The box where you store Pokemon not in your party is also accessible anywhere now, rather than just at Pokecenters.

Additionally, we are finally free from the long, boring, unskippable cutscenes I'd become accustomed to in more recent generations. For me, this is a huge pro--I stopped playing Sun/Moon due to the excessive cutscenes.

A negative of the game is that your starter, especially if you choose Eevee, essentially becomes invincible if you rely on it. If you use your starter for most battles rather than cultivating a varied team the game will become easy boring very quickly. I recommend leaving your starter on the sidelines most of the time and letting the Pokemon you catch along the way fill in your team.

Conclusion: Let's Go is a step in the right direction for a series which had, for me, begun to get bloated and stale in recent years. It does remove some mechanics from the game like Z-moves and held items, but most of them were nuisances and relatively pointless to 90% of players. The focus has been placed on what Pokemon is really about: collecting lots of creatures, developing a great team and battling through the game. If you're someone who plays Pokemon competitively and loves managing all the mechanics of later gens, I would skip this title, but otherwise it gets a recommendation to players of all ages from me.

This is obviously meant to make it similar to GO since the twogames can connect, which I LOVE by the way. Yellow was my first game when I was a kid, and I have played every generation of pokemon since, and this is the coolestthing to come out since ORAS in 2014. Sure, itmay also be a bit easier also, but since this is the series' first game on a home console, the more broad appealthey're going for this time makes perfect sense. Awful. This is another game that just revisits kanto for the 5th time while making the game have less content than the remakes of gen 1, firered and leafgreen. So many pokemon are cut so you are left with the original 151 and a new pokemon only transferable from the mobile game, Meltan. You cannot capture them all without buying a $50 controller that will barely work outside of pokemon,Awful. This is another game that just revisits kanto for the 5th time while making the game have less content than the remakes of gen 1, firered and leafgreen. So many pokemon are cut so you are left with the original 151 and a new pokemon only transferable from the mobile game, Meltan. You cannot capture them all without buying a $50 controller that will barely work outside of pokemon, making this game effectively $100 if you buy the game + ball deal. The main game is offensively boring and way too easy. A game being easy can be seen as a selling point, but this game takes it too far and makes every battle require no thought. You are always over leveled because every caught pokemon levels up everyone in the party and cannot be toggled off like the exp share in sun&moon. Even if you tried to do a self set challenge, the game even tries to stop you from doing that because gyms now have requirements to enter, such as forcing you to have a pokemon of the type effective against the gym, have enough different pokemon caught, or have a pokemon be 3 levels higher than the gym leaders pokemon. There are also stat candies which raise the stats of pokemon up by a whopping 200 extra. This would have been a good optionial addition for players who wanted the game to be easy, but the game was balanced without these in mind and thus make them completely useless to those who wanted a challenge, and the players who do like to minmax just turns the game into a one hit ko fest. The post game is also lacking in content. There is no battle frontier or battle tower, or even the battle maison. Just master trainers, who are barely even trainers because they have only one pokemon that is the same as yours and the battle requires no thought, just leveling that pokemon up and feeding lots of candies is the only effective strategy.

As for presentation, the graphics aren't great and has very little performance issues, but should not be a deal breaker reason. The music is surprisingly very lackluster, since every song has no kick to it. Most of it is remixes to music we have heard before, but there are no standout instruments to each track. Good for overworld and peaceful music, but terrible for battle themes.

And the major game design choices made are poorly executed. Pokemon being in the overworld is a good change, but it ruins the urgency of finding the exit of a cave or dungeon to prevent your team from being weakened, because there is no incentive other than to be done with the game quicker. With encounters being easily avoidable, preparation for a cave/dungeon isn't necessary at all. A change could have been made so pokemon fight you in these areas. As for the new catching mechanics, party wide exp and motion controls should not be forced. For some stupid reason, the motion controls cannot be disabled in docked mode. The 2 player mode is also poorly implemented. You get to travel with a friend in the overworld, but the second player cannot do anything but walk around with them. This also created a problem with the difficulty again, making no trainer be fun since everything would die in 1 turn.

The game is marketed at those who have nostalgia for kanto and very VERY young children as a way to ease them into other games, yet hold their hand way too much and do nothing to prepare them properly at all for an already easy series due to the different mechanics and play style the game wants you to go for.

Overall, the game has poorly executed ideas and suffers immensely from a difficulty level being toned down way too much even when trying your hardest to implement your own challenges. A very easy platformer like kirby can be enjoyable because of the many different ways you can play around with the mechanics. A turn based rpg cannot work when even the dumbest of decisions wont kill you. The original games could be beaten by many as a child, so why is there a need to change it to be the level of easiness there is now? Very boring, lacking in content, and would be best to wait and see how the next pokemon game comes out, or buy the many other, and better rpgs on the switch.

The reviewers that rated it a 0 or a 1 or even a 2 were indeed immature by being so negative about it, though I do get that it feels like a slap across the face for them; look on **** board /vp/, they're very... 'passionate' about Pokemon. But come on, it is just a bit childish to hate on an otherwise beautiful game just for the sake of making it look bad.

I myself haven't played the games but I've seen enough footage from livestreams and playthroughs to know that Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee are not games for me, nor will they ever be because they do not appeal to me.
However, though I am of the opinion they are a bit lacklustre when it comes to how the experience feels, as I don't feel wowed, just mildly entertained and at that point the grinding for Pokemon just feels tedious when there's no thrill of battle. But truly, the games are gorgeously crafted, the remade soundtracks are amazing and you can really see they tried their best to stick to their plan and made an easy to pick up game for kids to enjoy and get into with a cutesie artstyle and everything with it.

    So to conclude my statement;
While the game does deserve it's criticism for lacking in various important areas such as replayability, thrill management and depth of the game, it doesn't deserve the beatdown it is getting for it is still a stunningly gorgeous game carefully crafted with lots of time, effort, passion and especially a lot of love for Pokemon and that is where the game truly shines.

It is easily worth a solid 14 out of 10 for how beautiful it is, though it does deserve a critical 4 out of 10 for the fact it'll be lacklustre after 14 to 17 hours of the game.

Is it worth the 60 euro price tag? Not so much.
Is it still worth trying out at a cheaper price if you want to? Definitely.

The presentation has never been this good, and while the new mechanics take some getting used to, it ended up feeling more familiar than I expected. Some control issues aside, this shocked me in feeling like the definitive Kanto experience. While some prior content is sorely absent, other features we've spent years longing for make a better than ever return. It's a welcome diversion on the road to gen 8, and many fans even hope that some of the developments here end up carrying over to the next more competitive game.

Despite the bad reception to it's announcement and shown gameplay I took a risk on this game and picked it up, and I chose well. Ditching the overwhelming original random encounter system works very well in this game's favor, making the game feel faster and less drawn out, and the always-on EXP-Share system is very nice for evolving Pokemon you only wanna evolve to fill up the Pokedex faster. Catching Pokemon is fun (I use the Pokeball Plus FYI since I bought that version) and it's more engaging than previous titles due to this. Also considering it's hugely based off of Go, the goal is to catch as many Pokemon as possible, and you send them to Professor Oak who in turns gives you stat candy to raise the stats of your Pokemon, ditching the old ways of Stat Increasing items which were limited and extremely hard to grind Post-Game in older titles. My only complaints are the forced handholding this game gives you to help you find your next objective, but since I'm a Gen 1 veteran I'd obviously find that annoying considering I have gone through this story before. If I wrote about more of the stuff I loved about this game I'd go on for another paragraph so i'm ending it here with this is a very good game and I'm happy I spent the money to get it. Expand

My first game was Pokemon Yellow, which I got from a game shack. Ever since, I've been a huge Pokemon fan regardless of butt hurt fan boys who insist on creating toxic environments for what is essentially a children's game. Don't let their vapid negativity surrounding let's go Pikachu and Eevee fool you. It's gorgeous, has all the old Pokemon flavor any main series game had (minus the obvious catch mechanic switch up, which, while not better or worse than the turn by turn, wild battle encounter of past games, still serves to give the let's go vehicles a neat uniqueness), has countless trainer battles, cool emotional beats (I teared up at the cubone storyline), and an overall smooth play style that simultaneously updates old tropes and adds cool new features. Being able to run around zubats in Mt. Moon without destroying the environment with an ungodly amount of repels was a standout. Bringing back the Pokemon follow feature from heart gold and soul silver was amazing, especially since Pokemon are to scale now (Onix is freakin' huge).

I also imagine these games have fantastic cross-generational appeal. After all, some of those Pokemon fans of the original yellow just might have their own kids now, and with the new 2P system it could be a great way to spend time together. I'm speaking purely hypothetically since I do not have a kid of my own. Unless you count Eevee since she's just so gosh darn cute!

Are these games dumbed down? Maybe for those select Pokemon "fans" that spend their time making carbon copy teams of whoever's winning all those Pokemon championships with the same boring legendaries. But, it's a perfect game for those of us who simply like to play with our favorites, go on a bright and colorful journey, and watch Eevee pull a Parks and Recreation look towards the camera whenever Jessie and James start spouting nonsense. So don't let those presumably late 20's to early 30's naysayers dissuade you from buying a really fun game. They're pretty much akin to the pre-teen on Call of Duty who starts threatening to fornicate your mother because you're not playing the game correctly. They really just need an Eevee in their life.

It is a great game full of nostalgia, the only difference between this game of pokemon and the other games is that you can not fight with the wild pokemon, but you go directly to capture them, which does not really affect anything, it is really a great remake.

Gamefreak's laziest Pokemon title yet. No difficulty, bad graphics and it reuses the awful animations from the 3DS game. Look at Pikachu's double kick and Blastoise's hydro pump- unacceptable.

Easily the worst Pokemon RPG. There is nothing remotely challenging, lots of features have been removed and the graphics are bland.

They advertise this game as a mainstream game but it's not.
There is only 151 pokemon I wouldn't buy it if I knew this.

A simple, nostalgic return to the Kanto region, offers little if you are a series veteran eager for complexity and challenge. But if that's not your main interest, Pokemon Let's Go has it all! It's a simple, cute and fun game that will keep you hooked for hours. An excellent starting point for newcomers, and a great nostalgia trip for those in a search for one.

It’s hard to make sense of the game that’s basically a Switch port of iOS/Android remake of Pokemon Red/Green. Is it a step forward, step backward – or maybe just a shameless cash-in? Turns out, it’s a great remake – the world looks exactly as we imagined it back when we were staring at black and white pixels of original Red/Green. [Issue#235, p.44]
