Nintendo has already announced another Pokemon game which will be the 8th gen and will be a core Pokemon game and more than likely will be more polished and have better graphics (not that Let's Go has bad graphics or isn't polished, just that it doesn't seem like this is the best that the Switch can do). But the game can still be enjoyed by longtime fans and still has a bunch of new stuff. The game also lets you interact with your Pokemon more than ever. You can dress up your Pikachu or Eevee, play with them, feed them berries, teach them tricks, etc and you can ride an Onix or other big Pokemon for better/more transportation. Catching wild Pokemon is a bit easier now because it uses a similar system as Pokemon Go. Which I liked most of the time because it could be a lot faster so that you don't have to waste a ton of time just to catch a Pidgey or something, but there are some Pokemon you catch that you do have to battle. The game is a fresh new way to experience Pokemon and for you that don't like it as much, just remember that we'll be getting a core game next year. Expand

Expand

It's a Pokemon game for the really little ones and their brothers, sisters, parents. But one that has some surprising difficulty to it later on in the story. I hate it when people decide to destroy scores based on their entitled notions of what they believe this game should be to them. So I wrote this to say that if you're a parent with a small child that likes Pokemon Go, it's a blast to play this together. It's Kanto of old with some fun new twists thrown in, and having Eevee or Pikachu with you feels amazing. It's like playing the anime. Don't listen to the manbabies that think every game should catter to their crystalized taste of what a Pokemon game is. I've had loads of fun with Sun and Moon, but also with this simpler entry, and I don't even have kids. But I can still appreciate it for what it tries to do. And since Nintendo will introduce the next chapter of de main series next year, I don't really understand what these people complain about.

A lot of critics say that the main series is more complex than this game, they also say that Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee feels like a spin-off with an easier approach to its systems, one that might be cool for new players who think Pokemon Sun and Moon are too daunting for them to get into. They are right. And I want to extend a hand to those players, who love Pokemon Go, and want to try something a bit more hardcore, but not as much as the mainline RPG games. This is made for you, but also for those who like Kanto and gladly see it in HD on the big screen. Honestly, this game is polished as hell, it's not bad or broken in any way. It's loads of fun too, but it's just different from what we're used to with Pokemon RPG's. And that is fine.

There are so many trainers you battle, that there’s no shortage there. There’s a lot more that was taken from GO, and I have to say, I’m liking it a lot! It’s the beginning of a new era in the Pokemon series, and there might be some initial resistance, but I think it will win over many people in the end. I admit I was wanting to give it a low rating yesterday, as I sometimes struggle with change, but I’m glad I held off and gave it another chance. Expand

For the Game it self, im playing it right now. I guess im half through the games story. The controls are very simple, perfect for new and young Pokemon and RPG starters. Graphics nice and cute in a good quality but way simpler than graphics like Breath of the Wild or Mario Odyssey , here's my guessing too, that the next full new Pokemon Generations will be treated with some more opulenter graphics. The over all Performance of the Game feels good. I heard about some framedrops in Handheld mode, but they aren't for example again not that massive like the ones in Breath of the Wild again. Actually till now i didn't even noticed them really.

In the end i find the game really nice, easy start in RPG like Games.
(I even actually my start in RPGs, i often tried RPGs but quickly felt overdone by the complexity of the most games, this one is a very simple move into the genre which i really prefer. for me personally)
I had and have today still fun with this game. And that's what its about, right. Its not fair to rate this that bad for being disappointed not getting the next big step in Poke Gen. So...

Hold on old Poke Fans the next big game is coming next year for you (and if its gonna sucks feel free to rate it that way) but step back from this beginner friendly meant game.

Feel the need to write a review here because of all the zeros, which the game absolutely does not deserve.

First off, I think many fail to realize that this game was meant to be a different Pokemon game, and in that respect it shines. Having some concerns myself before the game was released, I was pleasantly surprised, the game is much more fun than myself and many of my friends anticipated, and it really knows how to immerse yourself in the game world. The world has never felt more alive, and the graphics while nothing next gen, are clean and bright in their own right. Performance is great in TV mode while handheld exhibits a few oddities, but nothing severe, and it's definitely playable and rare.

Catching Pokemon was a big concern for many, but I'd be lying if i said I didn't prefer this to pushing a button over and over with no effort on my part to try and do a good catch. No wild battles is actually a lot less of an issue than I thought as well, there are plenty of trainer battles, and without all the wild battles it actually makes battles feel more meaningful. Which brings me to my next point, having overworld encounters instead of random grass encounters is an absolute game changer. I never want to go back to a random encounter system, being able to see the Pokemon you encounter and actually run away from them real time, is something I would very much dislike if the series did not carry forward. A capture mechanic similar to this also helps the game become more dynamic, as you can encounter evolved forms of Pokemon that were previously absent from the game, locked to different areas because catching them was too easy.

The difficulty of the games has very much been understated. There are ways to grind your Pokemon or feed them candies to make them stronger, but permitting you want the game to be difficult, and do not feed them candy and go through the game normally, you will run into some trouble spots. Your starter has many versatile moves at their disposal and is very strong, so if you want some extra difficulty, I would recommend not using it as well. With the absence of passive EV gain, this becomes one of the more difficult games as your Pokemon are not automatically stronger than any trainers you encounter, sometimes being weaker or right on par with them.

Gym's will sometimes require you to meet a certain requirement to enter, but this has also been blown out of proportion, the very first gym requires you to know about type matchups. The second gym requires you to meet a level requirement (which is below the gym leaders level) and the rest of the gyms don't require any sort of advantage requirement, one Gym's requirement is that you have to have a cute Pokemon to enter, the game holds your hand much less than the previous entry in the series, Sun and Moon.

Abilities and hold items are absent, but I didn't see this as much of an issue, and contrary to what some are saying, this can actually increase difficulty. Many Pokemon trainers in the previous entries would never make their Pokemon hold items, so yours was at an advantage at all times if holding an item. This returns to a simpler time of Pokemon, one where battling at its core was choosing your team and the moves, and that was it. While I would like abilities and items in the future, this was actually a breath of fresh air.

In short, while Kanto has been remade and revisited before, the added story beats, character interactions, overworld encounters and more really help the game feel more alive than it ever has before. This is in a very real sense, a full return to Pokemon Yellow, with many of it's quirks, and strengths of the original games in place. The game has a lot of heart, and despite it's flaws, it has to be one of my favorite Pokemon games in the last 10 years, the positives far outweight the negatives here, and I hope the series see's more creativity and solid direction as this game did.

The game kinda does suffer a little. The lack of using the Nintendo Switch Pro controller with motion controls. It's a huge let down since I only just bought a pro controller to avoid using the Joy-cons that are too small on my hands. That's pretty much it for my review. The difficulty of the game has switched from battling and random encounters to physically catching the pokemon. The game gives ample supply of pokeballs to toss, however there is a skill gradient that comes from learning the way each pokemon moves and how to predict it's movements.

Do not allow the review bombing to dissuade you from purchasing this game and testing it out for yourself. While there are flaws that exist in the game, I would say that the game comes out to a net positive with all of the neat ways they reinvented the Kanto region!

This is the best Pokemon game I've played since X and Y, titles that really added something new to the series and made it interesting again. Wasn't a fan of Sun/Moon and the spin-offs but this game hits almost all the right notes.

    PROS:
+ The graphics are incredible! Still looks like the Pokemon we know and love but got significantly updated to run on the Switch and this game looks FANTASTIC in docked mode on a big TV.
+ The story is fun! It's not QUITE a remake of Pokemon Yellow (on purpose), but it comes very close while adding its own spin on some of the story.
+ You can get the Alolan versions of First Gen Pokemon in-game.
+ Unnecessary wild Pokemon encounters are GONE. You can now see exactly what's running around and choose to encounter it or not. Wild Pokemon battles are also gone (except for Snorlax and Legendaries I believe). You don't have to fight every single Pokemon to catch it anymore, you just complete the catching mini-game. Normal trainer battles still exist and are aplenty, don't worry! It's SURPRISINGLY fun to skip the unnecessary grind and just focus on the battles that really matter.
+ Your partner Pokemon makes the game incredibly personal and adds another layer of cuteness. You can change clothes, hairstyles and accessories on your Pikachu/Evee and match your outfits! You can also play with your partner, which will get you some rewards.
+ This game finally got rid of having to teach your Pokemon moves like fly/surf/cut etc. and having to have them in your party in case you need them. Your partner Pokemon learns all these moves in a special selection screen so no space is taken up in your attack selection and Pikachu/Evee can still use them even if they aren't in your party. You can still obtain those moves and teach them to Pokemon if you want, but they don't need to be removed by the move deleter!
+ There is no need to run to Pokemon centers to change your party anymore! You constantly carry your Pokemon box around with you and can change your party whenever you like. You can send Pokemon directly from your box to Professor Oak for candy rewards that will help improve your Pokemon.
+ Unnecessary on-screen notifications such as "would you like to name the Pokemon you just caught" have been removed and you can now name your Pokemon whenever and wherever you want, as many times as you want.
+ Movement is fluid, and you can have another Pokemon as well as your partner outside the pokeball. Some of these (the big ones) can be ridden or even flown on! Moving around on Charizard for example makes you move much faster.
+ The pokemon outside your ball will help you find items hidden in the world and your Pikachu/Evee's tale will wag if you're close to a hidden item.

    NEUTRAL:
+/- The Pokeball accessory is quite expensive but in my opinion worth it. I absolutely enjoy playing the game with it and hardly ever use another controller. It fits well in the hand and is of excellent quality. You can also use it to level your Pokemon up outside the game while walking or link it to Pokemon GO for extra rewards.

    CONS:
    - There is no breeding in the game, which is a shame.
    - No GTS system, which is a major step backwards for the series and trading with people you don't know is a pain.
    - There's one Pokemon Go exclusive Pokemon you cannot get just through playing Pokemon Let's Go, and I think that's a mistake. All Pokemon should be obtainable in the one game you bought (and the other version) without having to play Pokemon Go.

I was very skeptic before trying this game but I have to say it was worth every cent and a breath of fresh air in the series. Unlike Fallout 76, it just WORKS. And to the people giving this game 0/10 after saying in their review they really enjoyed the main campaign but were disappointed with the endgame content: that is not how scores work. Post-game content is an extra bit added to the end of the game. If you really enjoyed the game up until then, that is an unfair score to give and I don't know how you justify it. For anyone looking for fun, engaging game-game content, Pokemon Let's Go is absolutely worth a try!

Upon its reveal pre-E3, I was skeptical of the connections between pokemon go, yet the only significance is the new wild encounters which provide a shift in dynamic from trainer battles in a refreshing new way. I would not advocate for its return, yet it provides originality to Let's Go and keeps the gameplay brisk and constantly moving forward. Wild battles have stayed relatively similar with some simplifications with the removal of held items and abilities which remove some strategy, however, it can be interesting to veterans when you ca earthquake a Gengar and one shot a Geodude without the annoying study appear. Like pokemon go, you can encounter wild pokemon in the field which is one of the best additions to Pokemon Let's Go, which I definitely would love to see return along with the following pokemon. All of this together creates the most alive and vivid world in a pokemon game ever, it is just sad the NPC's are soulless puppets and characters turn at an awkward 90 degree angles.

Overall the story stays true to the original tales of Pokemon Yellow yet add many moment to the story that enhance the story, increase the quality of life, and provides cool nods to previous regions such as Alola which will be a refreshing sight to people who were introduced to pokemon in the best pokemon game on the 3DS, Pokemon Sun and Moon. Like Pokemon Yellow, you adventure with a partner pokemon, which can Pikachu and Eevee depending n the version. These pokemon are surprisingly powerful throughout with incredible stats, movesets and lovably adorable cries when petting them and feeding them food. They both shine in the cutscenes that appear throughout the story that help to characterize the region and the connection between the trainer and the partner. The worlds the story takes place in has never looked better in a pokemon game with beautiful colours that pop from the screen in both Tv and handheld mode, and the explorations of old towns in beautiful Hd with superb orchestrated music such as the cerulean city theme and the battle themes are a joy to any pokemon enthusiast.

Pokemon Let's Go has impressed me on so many levels that has made my journey through the game one of the most enjoyable pokemon adventures for a while. I hope that gamefreak has learned that a great pokemon adventure comes from freedom, exploration and natural storytelling through the region, rather than a 2-hour introduction to catching pokemon and pages of dialogue that is irrelevant. I absolutely loved pokemon lets go and cannot wait for what the pokemon company can do now with the Nintendo switch and a brand new pokemon adventure in 2019.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pokemon Let's Go is a great overall experience. I personally love the new wild Encounter system, as it makes me, as a core Pokemon player who has played every game thus far, want to battle every trainer, instead of avoiding them in some places. For everything that has been removed in this game when compared with core Pokemon, Gamefreak and Nintendo make up for it with new systems. The Catch Chaining encounter system is the easiest way by far to get those desired 4IV+ Pokemon for competitive players, and players can lock in Natures for every wild encounter instead of having about a 50% rate in previous games. Most people on here with 1's and 0's for their score really have never played the game at all, and just want to hate on it. If you don't believe me, check out some articles and reddit posts about it. Nonetheless, this game is a total breath of fresh air and I hope Nintendo realizes just how good the new wild encounter system is. Don't let the name fool you, this game plays EXTREMELY close to a core Pokemon game, with a little bit of Go mixed in. I like the direction Nintendo took with this one, and I am having more fun in this game than I have ever before in a Pokemon game. Expand

Expand

Tbh I don't really understand all the blame this game gets. It's fun to play, it's colourful and positive as a pokemon game should be. Removal of wild encounters really saves your time and allows you to enjoy the game more. Yeah, it's pretty easy game, but cmon, pokemon never was hard, I completed last 3 games(X/Y, Omega/Ruby, Sun/Moon) undefeated and I was not even trying. The game is great the removal of random battles is awesome finding pokemons like it's meant to be in the wild not randomly catching is fun but i wish we still had wild battles with the pokemon weakening them before throwing poke balls at it.

Me lo compré con escepticismo por la mala prensa que tuvo desde que se anunció. Pues... ME HA ENCANTADO!! Juegazo. Expand

Game is pretty and well designed. It’s a return to Kanto and it does an amazing job of mixing traditional Pokémon with Go

Play the game before you review bomb it. The game is fun and has way more depth then I had expected from this. The only complaint I have is that the game is rather easy.

It even has some easter eggs for the old fans to sit back and enjoy.

They change some game play since you catch most wild pokemon instead of battling them(some you do still battle). This isnt that big of a deal to me but something i would not want to carry over into the 2019 gen 8. The throwing creates its own lvl of difficulty and strategy as well. One must learn to pay attention to the pokemons animations and do not just toss balls at it. I think i would quite enjoy a combination of fighting and throwing. Since throwing the ball, especially when you have the pokeball plus, is really immersive and fun way to play the game. I recommend getting the pokeball plus as i think it is worth the price which is the same as other joycons. You can also take your pokemon out for walks and play with it to hear it make noises from the controller. Which honestly is such a great idea.

one other thing i really enjoyed that i hope makes it into gen 8 is pokemon following you. This is something fans have been wanting for a long time. I also enjoy being able to see the pokemon in the world. This makes the game a really immersive experience seeing and hearing the pokemon.

things i think are a bit disappointing is the fact that you can not play mini games in the arcade which is why i gave this a 9/10. There is no reason not to be at least able to have mini games in the arcade. This could have really raised the fun aspect of the game. Another thing is although i do highly recommend the pokeball plus as a controller i do not think including mew in it is very fair to other players. I like the idea of it coming with a pokemon so im not exactly sure what they should have done. but this is the only way to get mew so i just dont think thats fair. However it is worth the price as a controller and is a lot of fun.

While the game has a few changes it really sticks to the core of what makes pokemon pokemon. It is a full fledged pokemon game and i am personally very happy with my purchase.

A simple, nostalgic return to the Kanto region, offers little if you are a series veteran eager for complexity and challenge. But if that's not your main interest, Pokemon Let's Go has it all! It's a simple, cute and fun game that will keep you hooked for hours. An excellent starting point for newcomers, and a great nostalgia trip for those in a search for one.

It’s hard to make sense of the game that’s basically a Switch port of iOS/Android remake of Pokemon Red/Green. Is it a step forward, step backward – or maybe just a shameless cash-in? Turns out, it’s a great remake – the world looks exactly as we imagined it back when we were staring at black and white pixels of original Red/Green. [Issue#235, p.44]
