They also removed Pokemon abilities. On top of this, they force you to use a single joy con controller unless you are playing in handheld mode. I prefer a two Joycon setup, but that's too bad. You can't even use a pro controller. Did you spend an extra $70 for that pro controller? That's too bad, because you can't use it at all. They wanted to cash grab with the Pokeball plus sales to force you into their gimmick of spending an extra $45 for a stupid Pokeball controller that will only be useful for this game. It's a good business strategy, but does a terrible job at keeping customer loyalty. They completely disrespected the long time fans with this installment and The last company that I trusted with a string title every time has finally lost my trust. I cannot recommend this game to anyone, unless you've never played Pokemon or you only play Pokemon Go. That's 100% the audience they were targeting and they obviously stopped caring about their true fans.

I just can't help but feel like the company didn't care very much with what they were doing this time around. It's a back to basics Pokemon game that removes around 50% of what makes Pokemon fun. If you're a Pokemon fan, then I would highly recommend waiting and buying their core version coming in late 2019. This won't tide you over, this will make you mad.

Pokemon yellow for kids the new generation kids that are not allowed to be frustrated. I used to play pokemon blue on gameboy and it was impossible to beat brock and mist without leveling a lot my pokemons. Now i beat the entire gym with one run, without leveling my pokemons and without using a single potion. My recomendation: Get the Physical version, play and sell.

This is a very weird entry into the Pokémon series. This is not a good game. It's neither a good Pokémon game nor a good RPG in general. The Pokémon series has always been a very casual and simple part of the JRPG genre, it's made to appeal first and foremost to kids after all. In recent times Gamefreak have adopted the strategy of simplifying the games even more and that's extremely apparent with Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee. These games ignore a plethora of features that have been a staple of the series for many years in favor of cashing in on the Pokémon Go hype by implementing features from that game. This to me seems like a very weird choice to make. Who would have thought that the very first mainline Pokémon title released on a home console would remove features in sake of implementing game mechanics from a mobile title of all things. It feels honestly very bizarre. Apart from that, the game doesn't look what I would expect a home console Pokémon game to look like. It looks like an upscaled 3DS game. This is especially pathetic when you compare it to other bestseller titles on the Switch, such as Mario Odyssey, which looks and runs magnitudes better than Let's Go. This to me really just indicates a lack of effort on Gamefreak's part. They know that whatever they do, the game will sell well. Thus they'll just put in minimal effort and people will defend them for it.
Not everything is wrond with these games though. I like the concept of Master Trainers for example. I think it could be expanded upon so that it doesn't just fall down to whoever has the faster Pokémon wins but there's definitely potential for some fun post-game content there.
To be honest, it is very difficult to think of more positive things to say about Let's Go so I'll just wrap up my review with the next few sentences. I don't know who these games are for. I don't think kids are too stupid to play any of the other mainline games and I don't think if you have nostalgia for gen 1 that you would seriously enjoy these games more than the originals or Firered/Leafgreen. Let's Go feels like the biggest stepback in the history of Pokémon. Now we'll just have to hope that Gamefreak keeps Let's Go seperate from the "real" mainline games and that they'll positively surprise us with next year's entry.

All pretty but, damn pokemon snap was more difficult, i know it's a casual spin off, but again it is so easy to beat the game that you get bored quick, there is no challenge at all and without challenge one simply start to ask why im pkaying this? And it cost 60 bucks!! I truly recommend you to watch some streaming or walkthrough and then decide if it worth for you

The graphics are okay, marginally better than Gen 7 (though the capture sequences are virtually indistinguishable from GO), and seeing Pokémon roam around the overworld is pretty cool and something I hope carries over to later generations. No HMs is nice but USUM already fixed that. Thus ends my list of pros.

I don't understand all the meddling with the core formula. The story is that GF wanted to make the game more accessible for new players so they removed wild battles, abilities, held items, etc. But last I checked, young kids have spent the last 20 years being able to figure out the inner complexities of Pokémon, beginning with those of us who started with Gen 1 when we were 6 and 7, all the way up to the kids whose first Pokémon game was USUM. Not to mention every iteration of Pokémon has sold like hotcakes, so it's not like having abilities or whatever was frustrating new players to the point that they weren't buying the game.

The real reason that this game has been so stripped down, that the difficulty is such a joke, is because it was obviously a rush job and a cash grab. Wanna know why IVs, which are easily the most complex thing about Pokémon, made it into the game but not abilities? Because IV's are easy to code into a game, it's just RNG pumping out a series of numbers. Same with natures, which are even more frustrating than IVs (still in the game despite being universally hated). Unlike abilities, but putting abilities in requires effort, unique animations, effects, weather (also removed), etc. Same with hold items. Nobody ever complained about hold items, we've been able to figure those out since the first time we gave Totodile a berry in GS, but those got purged too. So don't buy the BS that GF was concerned with new players being confused - what really happened is that they didn't have enough time to cram everything in before the holiday deadline.

The GO mechanics are also supremely frustrating, mostly because the catch system is designed for GO (a F2P game) and not a game that people paid $60 for. Pokémon GO is designed for kids to spam Poke balls until they have to use Mommy's Visa to buy more. Getting a Nice/Great/Excellent has zero bearing on catch rates, which is now 100% RNG that the player has very little control over - all you can do you is press the berry button and hope that the Pokémon doesn't immediately run away. The result is a catch minigame that feels incredibly frustrating - anyone who has hurled 5+ ultra balls into a green circle only to have their 30+ chain broken because the target fled knows what I mean.

It's charming being back in Kanto, and seeing a big-ol Onix rumble around is cool. But this game is not worth $60, and with less features than the 3DS games it might not be worth $40 either. I understand why this game exists, but man is it a disappointment, and if GF doesn't really crush Gen 8 then my interest in Pokémon might finally collapse. Also they left Stealth Rock in the game but removed Rapid Spin and Defog. You have been warned.

The following Pokemon and character cameos are both really cool, but don't justify the 60$ price tag. If you really want to interact with your Pokemon, I'd recommend playing the 3DS games and using Amie/Refresh.

The point is, there's nothing that makes this game worth more than FireRed, a game that came out over a decade ago. If you don't already have FRLG or something to play GBA games and you just really like the look of this game more, then sure, you'll have fun. If you don't fit that description, then I'd only recommend the game if you play GO and have children to play with, since I imagine that would elevate the experience a bit. Although, while we're on children, I'd still recommend you get them FRLG instead. If you're a parent and you don't really get Pokemon, don't be fooled by people who say this game is better for kids; Pokemon has ALWAYS been a good fit for children, so the additions that make this game more childish and easy were completely unnecessary. I enjoyed FRLG as a kid, and I still come back to it. I would've enjoyed this game too, but I'm not so sure about that second part.

For veteran Pokemon fans, the game is fun as long as you don't think too hard about all the stuff that's missing or where they went wrong, and the fact that that's the most positive thing I can say about it should tell you all you need to know.

Kanto's graphics have been updated. The presentation and music quality is greater than ever before. The return of following Pokemon brings a certain magic to exploring the overworld and the game is filled is with loving homages to the franchise's early days, both for casual and more dedicated fans.

So why is my score so low?

Because for all the effort the games put into style, accessibility and a warm feeling of nostalgia, the core experience under the hood feels strikingly shallow - a problem many have had with the series as a whole lately.

The removal of wild battles in favour of a Pokemon Go style system, and the availability of only the original 151 Pokemon + 2 newcomers are the most striking changes, enough to put off many fans by themselves, but ultimately only the tip of the iceberg. The difficulty has been lowered compared to both the original Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow and their remakes Fire-Red and Leaf-Green years prior. The post-game content, the pride of some of the most well renowned Pokemon experiences like Gold/Silver and their even better remakes, Emerald and Black 2/White 2 is particularly barren, with the aforementioned remakes of the same game: FR/LG doing more in this regard in 2004. The wireless features the franchise has had since 2006 have been stripped back: random wireless battles and the Global Trading System are no more. The removal of various layers of battling complexity: held items, abilities and more have also put a major dampener on the competitive side of things, an aspect of the franchise that has only been growing in recent years.

I think the shallow feeling of the games as a whole can be summarised with one analogy to another Pokemon remake many years back. The original Pokemon red and blue were ripe with speculation surrounding the mysterious 151st Pokemon Mew - all playground rumours aside, Mew was unattainable aside from very sparse, inaccessible events. Then came Pokemon Emerald in 2005: in it Gamefreak put the effort into crafting a special event in which you could finally catch Mew with some special in-game story content. Players had been curious for years and were finally rewarded. Now compare that to Mew's availability in Let's Go. With the game's efforts to reignite nostalgia and the magic of the early franchise, it would've been all to easy to implement a special Mew event: maybe as a reward for catching all 150 Pokemon, or as a homage to many of the rumors back in the day: the perfect cherry on top of a game. Instead, Mew was locked behind a paywall: an accessory that cost real world money to attain, all for the privelage of obtaining Mew with no extra bells or whistles, story content or magic to speak of.

This is a problem many, myself included, have had with the franchise to various degrees in the past five or so years. Constant alluding to days past instead of moving forward. Cutting out difficulty and depth in favour of adding extra style over substance. An ever shrinking amount of content per game owed to misconceptions about what the children of today want, completely ignoring that the franchise attracted so many newcomers throughout its history with exactly the opposite - and it is many of those fans in particular that feel left behind with Let's Go.

The games look, sound and play impressively. No doubt by themselves they are a fun, harmless Pokemon experience, and will reignite the magic in many, But in the context of Gamefreak's current approach when developing the franchise and the milestones set by previous instalments, Let's Go feels like a hollow "return to form" and foray onto the Nintendo Switch, wowing on the surface but offering little underneath. This is Pokemon far from its best.

It's okay if you like Gen 1 and want a timewaster that you can shut off your brain and play for a few hours, but if you're expecting anything deeper then look elsewhere. This was clearly made as a quick filler for this year to cash in on the Go players, with the bare minimum effort put in while presumably every one else in Game Freak is working on the 2019 game/s.

Honestly as a Go player the catching didn't bother me as much, it worked decently with the Joy-Con. Following Pokemon and being able to ride on them as well as not having to use HMs was nice and I wish they keep this feature for future games. Some of the battles in the game can be pretty challenging if you don't excessively catch Pokemon and keep around the same levels as your opponents. I don't really have a problem with the 'chibi' artstyle they went with for this game, but the graphics and animations look flat and unfinished which is frankly horrible for the series' first HD game on a home console especially when put next to other Switch games. The soundtrack is just the same 5 instruments over and over making every song sound exactly the same, they weren't memorable remixes in the slightest. The story is just the same as RBY with the odd new thing here and there, only your new 'Rival' in this game reminds me of the 'friends' from Pokemon XY and not in a good way. And features like online random matches, abilities and held items that were in every previous game were removed for absolutely no good reason, with nothing of note added as an incentive to play the game beyond beating the Champion or catching Mewtwo.

Definitely don't buy a Switch just for this game, it's not worth it. Only get this if you have literally nothing else to play on your Switch, and even then only buy it if you can find it cheap, because that's what this game is. It's definitely not worth £50/$60.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pretty much the same typical pokemon game you ever expect from Game Freak. Nothing screams challenging single player content. For a JRPG it's pretty low in standards. I'm just going to cut to the chase and give you what exactly what you want.

Is there single player post game content and is there any good replay value?

Yes there is post game content such as the master trainer battles, and SPOILERS! You get to fight trainer Blue, Red, and Green. As for replay value, no. Most modernize pokemon games from the 3DS era onto the Switch STILL weak in the replay value department.

There! That's pretty much what there is to it. If you want to buy the game because it's "Pokemon" then by all means go ahead, but if you pretty much play every single game in the generation. Expecting more of a hardcore single player challenge, more post game content, higher replay value for single player content. I'm terribly sorry but you're sadly mistaken if you think you'll be getting those.

Funny enough, the story is just as bland as X and Y. Despite it being a remake and all. Then again, Red, Blue, Yellow, Fire Red, and Leaf Green always had terrible stories. Don't expect that to change.

Overall, it's just another cheap cash grab, lack of replay value and most of all. Another babies' first JRPG. It's not worth playing and I suggest everyone to turn away from it and hold off until gen 8 comes around. Though let's be real honest. Gen 8 will be **** too so long as Junichi Masuda, Shigeru Ohmori is at the helm of directing these games. Nothing will ever change.

There are some aspects of the game that I like. For example, I believe that you are able to choose which Pokemon you want to catch instead of random encounters is nice and I preferably quite like it. I also think that because of the new combo feature and the Shiny Charm, it makes catching shiny Pokemon more enjoyable and easier rather than spending hours on end trying to find that one shiny Pokemon you were looking for. There are many features that are unpleasant and disappointing about this game as well. I found this game to be quite fun when I was playing it. I liked battling all the gyms and battling the Elite Four again, but after that I quickly lost interest in the game. I myself am not a shiny hunter so that takes the aspect of "chaining" as I call it and filling up the PokeDex out of the question. The "Master Trainers" don't provide a interesting thing to do after the game, and Team Rocket does a lousy job of trying to battle your trainer again after the game. Overall, I am disappointed in the post game adventure unlike Sun, Omega Ruby, and X. I also am not a fan of the catching mechanism that Game-freak used in this game. I find myself using too many Pokeballs and infuriating myself on how Pokemon somehow instantaneously flee from battles breaking my chains. I am used to spending 1-3 Pokeballs in the other core games rather than 7-9 Pokeballs in this game. I also dislike how there are only 151 core Pokemon in this game (excluding the legendary, special Pokemon, and the Alolan Pokemon). This makes for the game to be somewhat boring and tiring going through. I honestly think there is a lack of story line here both in game and post game. The way that Game-freak merged the game with Pokemon Go was disappointing and unpleasant for the core gamers. Overall, I think you should give this game a try. It's not only my opinion that shapes your mind to whether you want to buy the game or not. I think it should not be called a core series game and more of a sub-series game. Disappointing overall. I’ll be honest, this is probably the least fun I’ve ever had playing a Pokémon game. It’s down there with the Ultra games. To start with the positives I had about this game, the visuals are admittedly nice, especially compared to the game we got a year later. It also adds to the “cuteness factor” this game has with Pikachu & Eevee. Am I sick of seeing them plastered on every piece of marketing involving Pokémon? Yes. They’re still adorable in game though. I also like how they brought back Pokémon following you & how shiny Pokémon actually appear shiny in the over world, why they didn’t bring that shiny feature back in SwSh (aside from the DLC you’d have to pay $30 for just to have Pokémon follow you, wild Pokémon still won’t appear shiny tho lol stupid af) is yet another bafflingly stupid design choice that they can add to their shamefully long list of stupid design choices. That’s where the positives end & I have to get angry with TPC yet again. Why.. WHY are you remaking Kanto AGAIN?! Who is asking for this trash?! Kanto is the most boring & generic region out of all the Pokémon games I literally cannot name a si how memorable location that wasn’t done better in another Gen. Even most of the Pokémon in this Gen are either ugly or dumb, aside from a handful of good ones. How this boring ass generation continually gets preferential treatment over half a dozen other BETTER gens is beyond me. Nostalgia sells & GameFreak is gonna milk it until I’m dead clearly. They’ve been out of ideas for a while now but this game really put the nail in their creative coffin imo. These games just shouldn’t exist. The extra time and resources that went to these games should have gone towards Sword & Shield, maybe they wouldn’t have turned out the way they did if things went that way. At this point I’m so sick and tired of seeing the same 151 Pokémon and same tired ass region that I will never touch this game again, or any like it. Stop the Gen 1 pandering & start taking some goddamn risks again for the love of Arceus. This ain’t it. Save yourself the time and money & go play FireRed or LeafGreen instead. Or move onto better franchises. Expand

Un gioco gradevole ma che taglia tanti contenuti rispetto al precedente remake rosso fuoco, sistema di combattimento con selvatici da rivedere totalmente. La semplificazione delle lotte rimuovendo le abilità è un peccato.

The main rival is easily the worst character in the entire Pokemon series. Whereas Blue was cocky and made you want to be better than him, the main rival in this game is the most bland and uninteresting character. Some positives would be the music, graphics, and the fact that Pokemon actually follow the player.

For a full price game, Pokemon Let's Go offers a very little amount of content, which itself is low quality. There are far better experiences gamers can have paying for a full price game on the Switch, such as the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series.

Not to mention despite only having 151+2 pokemon to make animations for you still have pikachu jumping in place basically t-posing for half its moves. Compare it to a game like digimon cyber sleuth which had a fraction of a fraction of the budget this game did and still managed to give every one of its 250+ digimon unique animations. The low quality from this game and the amount of features they've added and removed from pokemon over time is unforgivable for a franchise that's grossed 60 billion dollars.
That being said if you're 3 years old or didn't play any pokemon games outside of yellow? Sure, go nuts. The Pokemon Go catching mechanic was a somewhat nice change from the traditional controls. The flaw is the games removal of content. Much content was removed and not even substituted. For this being a Pokemon game on the switch, it's certainly a step backwards.

The $40 3DS games have 10x times more content. Hell, even the red and blue remakes on the gameboy advanced from nearly 15 years ago had more to do. It feels like a watered down game meant for mobile. Now if that's what it actually was then maybe it would be fine, I would understand if they were limited by hardware or something but they're not. Nintendo has already shown what the switch is really capable of and astounded us with things like Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey. In comparison this is utterly pathetic. Especially as one of their mainstay franchises.
It just feels so barebones. So many basic features have been stripped away. Of all the features removed the absence of wild battles is the most noticeable. Sure they could be annoying but that annoyance mostly came from the fact that these encounters were randomised. They found the perfect remedy for that by having pokemon appear in the overworld, the player can now decide what pokemon to encounter when they choose. But why then remove the battle element? Having to use this silly catching mechanic for the entirety of the game is just not fun and the joycon controls for it are awful. At least those battles gave some kind of variety to gameplay. And it should be noted that by removing wild battles you're not just stripping away one the most fundamental elements of every mainline pokemon games gameplay but from the story too. The whole reason you're given your starter pokemon in the first place is to protect you from all the other pokemon in the world. In the original red and blue Professor Oak yanks you out the grass and tells you it's not safe out there. Here in let's go the pokemon in the overworld don't even bother chasing you, they just stand around waiting to be caught. The only challenging aspect of wild encounters now is making sure you've brought along enough pokeballs. Theres very little challenge in the game overall. The incredibly broken candy system and the exp share which is stuck on at all times make the trainers who are already pushovers no obstacle at all. Most pokemon games are fairly easy but at least there was online play to supplement that but here online features are incredibly limited, there's no GTS, Wonder Trade, or Battle Spot and you can only battle or trade with friends locally. With no challenge in the main game, very little post game content and limited online features its just a dull experience overall. The bland visuals don't help either. The environments feel sterile. I was initially somewhat excited to see a revisit to kanto, but only because I was interested to see how it would be reimagined with the capabilities of the switch. There is no re-imagining though, instead we just get the same maps and layouts, outdated grid system included, lazily rendered in 3D. They're reusing the models and animations for pokemon that they made 5 years ago for x and y and i've noticed some reuse of animations from sun and moon for npcs too. And fair enough, we're approaching nearly 1000 pokemon now, it's not worth the time to redo those every game, but surely then that should also afford you time to actually put care into rest of the games visuals. And the soundtrack that I've seen a lot of praise for, in the end just turned out to be generic midi orchestrated versions of the originals that lack any real personality of their own.
And all of this is excused because its meant for children and to bring new people into the franchise. So did children not buy any of the previous games? Were those games not designed with them in mind? Did the kids back in the day who's nostalgia Gamefreak are now banking on drop out of the franchise back then? No. A lot of the 'accessibility issues' this game tries to solve were never really problems in the first place. A full understanding of the complexities of breeding, training and battling required for competitive play online were never necessary to make it through the main story. And you never had to touch online if you didn't want to. This already simple game series didn't need diluting further to make it more accessible. And with Pokemon currently being the highest earning media franchise, i don't evenk think accessibility is even an issue for them anymore anyway.
Really not optimistic about the 2019 games if this is all gamefreak has to show for the switch.

I remember when the games were first announced, it felt like a breath of fresh air and like Gamefreak were taking a brand new exciting perspective on the Pokemon formula. I was really excited to buy and play this game, unfortunately to my dismay as time went on things took a drastic change. There are many areas where the game suffers and does a spectacular job of alienating long term fans.

Lets start out with the game itself, which is inherently bad. It's an obvious cash grab aimed at the casual and GO audience. Expecting people to pay $300, then $60, and then maybe another $50 is downright greedy and ludicrous. Also spending that extra $50 on a one dimensional accessory that only works for Lets GO and Pokemon GO is bananas. Not only that, but the pokeball plus already has limited used in Let's GO itself with many people opting to use the joycons instead anyway, and it's the only way to obtain Mew in game!

This game cost $20 dollars more than usual despite having half the usual content. Next is the gameplay itself. Gameplay aspects such as natures and held items have been stripped out with some moves being cut out from the game as well! This waters the game down removing a layer of variability and cuts out a part of the pokemon formula which makes it all the more interesting. Then there is the severely limited online aspect with the GTS, wonder trade, and battle spot not being included with the online services.

I'm just going to start listing things now, maybe go in depth for some that need further explaining. Only the first 150 pokemon included, plus meltan. Every other game includes pokemon from other gens, even the fire red/leaf green remakes so there is no reason LG shouldn't include them either. Graphics are not great by any means, even compared to their handheld predecessor US/UM, with some of the models being ripped directly from Pokemon GO. Overall the effort put into graphics and animations is laughable. Removed wild battles, and the hand-holding or ultra casualization is blatantly obnoxious and even enough to turn literal kids away.

Post game content is nearly non existent and seems almost haphazard, and the game overall leaves one feeling there is much to be desired and that so much more could of been done to make this a good game. Instead we got a half effort, diluted, money grab. Which if they sell well, only serves to further incentivize Gamefreak to continue putting out full priced games that only require half the work. It already happened with pokemon go. Gamefreak and nintendo saw PGO success and now we have the train wreck that is lets go as a result. If the trend continues the lack luster mediocrity that inspired this game could eventually bleed into the main series games.

    1. The game is way too easy. It's impossible to lose a battle. You gain so much experience, that you will always be over-leveled relative to your opponent but also have a team of 6. In this game, you just blaze through it with your overpowered and over-leveled starter.

    2. Exp. Share should not be mandatory, and it is broken. The experience each Pokémon gains does not change according to relative level differences. This means that the forsaken Magikarp you buy before Mt. Moon will be hopelessly under-leveled, as it belongs to the slow experience group. Moreover, any Pokémon you catch will usually be under-leveled relative to your starter. The only way to train these Pokémon on their own is to remove all other Pokémon from the party and go around catching useless Pokémon in combos.

    3. There are no wild battles. I honestly cannot understand why they thought this was a good idea. I'd welcome novel ways to capture Pokémon. I mean, you could try befriend them and they would willingly want to join you - a bit like what happens with the starter. The new catching mechanics on their own are stale and boring. Moreover, the fact you don't have to battle wild Pokémon means there is no risk-reward to catching Pokémon in places like the Victory Road, Mt. Moon or the Rock Tunnel.

    4. Very poor frame rate performance in many locations (e.g. Viridian Forest) and poor overworld animations.

    5. Lack of content. If the game is focusing more on catching wild Pokémon, it makes no sense to remove all the next generations.

Very disappointing. I think this game is going to simply gather dust.

Now if you're fine with Gamefreak/Nintendo saying "All the fans need to see is that it has Pokemon in the title" then by all means I guess this game is for you. If you're fine with them putting in less and less effort in every subsequent iteration of your favorite franchise then by all means throw your hard earned cash at them and see this the video games sink into mobile/casual territory. The Director himself said in an interview that "People/Kids are used to mobile games and watching games on youtube", so by his defintion, you the consumer have the attention span of an ant to even be able to enjoy fully fleshed out video games and would probably just enjoy watching beautiful scenery than actually playing the games. But enough about that.

See the problem with the games is, its a switch game, not only that but its pokemons debut game for the console itself. Its priced at 60$ which is 20$ more than the previous games and it has less content. This is a fact. Stripping the other pokemons itself is already a huge chunk of the content out of the games. FR/LG had sevii islands in the post-game, HG/SS had the battle frontier, OR/AS had soaring, mirage islands, battle-resort, Delta episode then LGPE has well.. 1 on 1 with a bunch of trainers just re-scattered around kanto. I get it they want to lure in the Go community and the people that left the games a long time ago but at the cost of alienating your LOYAL fanbase. That a bit of a kick in the nuts. Why couldn't they find a middle ground to make the games appealing to both and then again by the way they designed this game it shouldn't even be appealing to the casual-fanbase, in truth its insulting, basically them saying that the games in its current state, a childrens game btw is too much for other people to handle so they had to dumb it down even for grown adults to enjoy? ridiculous. but hey people will probably just eat this up because its pokemon and its pretty.

If you're a long time fan of the series and no matter how much this game looks appealing to you, just think about what this game means for the future of the series. Speak out, vote with your wallet. Maybe you won't feel the effects yet by the already announced gen 8 title, but at somepoint gamefreak is going to realize even without putting any effort into these games that they will sell, I assure you the video games will become shells of its former self. Im sure alot already feels this way with the 3DS games.

Stop being so dismissive of people who you disagree with. It makes you look bad, not them. Also, yes. Pokemon veterans and core fans know that this wasn't supposed to be a mainline game. Yes, they know what Nintendo said about the game not being exactly like the others and, yes, they know about the mechanics that Nintendo said would not be in the game. With that said, that does not invalidate their entire review because, like everyone else, they had their own experience with the game and just want to share their thoughts. So, don't be so quick to down-vote. This is what reviews are for, to show an overall reception of a piece of media. So take in all of these reviews and form your own opinion about the game.

    ANYWAY,
I beat Pokemon Emerald in 3 days when I was 5 years old. That being said, Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu (and Eevee. They're the same game. Don't be a sucker and buy both) are dumbed down to the bear minimum.
    - Always on exp share (not a big issue though)
    - Pokemon GO wild battles
    - constant hand holding
    - friendly rival (because children are sensitive and words hurt I guess)
    - No abilities
    - No held items
    - Only first 151 Pokemon (plus Meltan and Melmetal)
    - No working game corner (because I guess that counts as gambling and we must shield the children)
It's almost as if Game Freak assumes that kids these days are getting dumber every year. The games were already easy and, now, they're just lifeless.

I don't have a problem with going back to Kanto because I really like Kanto. The issue lies in that there are no new places to go. In fact, places like the Sevii Islands have been taken out. Personally, I would have really like to visit Johto afterwards but I guess that was too much to ask for.

I also don't have a problem with wild pokemon appearing outside of battle rather than being randomly selected when running through tall grass. The issue with this, though, is that there are so many of them and, a lot of times, you will have your path blocked by randomly wandering wild pokemon whom you can't touch because then you'll be forced to play carnival ring toss with them.

The story is fairly the same as pokemon yellow with little to no change. You start out as a trainer in pallet town and end after beating the pokemon league. Simple. There is also no post game unless you think that "Master Trainers" actually qualifies for being post-game content. I don't see why Nintendo made a big fuss over master trainers. They're just 1v1 battles of the same pokemon and you get a title of that specific pokemon when you beat them but, those titles don't make sense in any context if you use more than one species of pokemon.

You can also try to complete the pokedex but that only works if you get mew who is locked behind a paywall. That's right! You have to buy the pokeball plus to acquire mew which is another $50 ($40 dollars if you buy the bundle pack) because, I guess, EA must've taken Nintendo aside and told them that consumers love getting screwed over at every turn.

Also, half the animations were quite literally ripped from SM/USUM so expect a lot of things to look familiar. ALSO, the graphics look sub-par. The switch is definitely capable of more than just SM/USUM graphics without the black outlines. So, that was unimpressive.

Character customization is pretty shallow despite being much better in previous titles on an inferior console. Once you pick your character appearance, you are not able to change anything about it from then on (hair style, color, eye color, etc.) You can still customize your outfit but, that has been dumbed down to just a few sets (some of which are version exclusive) and any attempt to mix and match between the sets never looks right.

The thing that I think this game does right is the music. The music is always top notch, largely because everything else is still conveyed through text. Taking the soundtrack up to orchestral level is always nice though.

Overall, this game is just... okay. It plays fine. It looks fine. However, once you beat it, there is no reason to ever come back. The online sucks and, now you need to buy a Nintendo Switch Online Subscription to even do something simple like that.

(TL;DR) Not worth $60. Designed to appeal to the very small brain stunted children. This game is Baddy Bad.

Despite the greatly overhauled graphics, it somehow manages to feel less enjoyable running around Kanto than the last time I was able to back in Leaf Green.

However, there is a role for this game as an entry point for new players. It looks a lot prettier than the older games and they decided to tone down the difficulty to a ridiculously easy level. I would definitely recommend this game for new players to acquaint themselves with the Kanto region and the original 151 pokemon. For players who have even touched another game in the series, this game will get boring very fast.

Overall, this is a fairly uninspired Kanto reboot, and I hope that Pokemon doesn't continue moving in this direction.

And the change in difficulty is a real thing too, I played Pokemon Yellow to make sure my nostalgia wasn't blinding me and it was undoubtedly harder. I caught a bulbasaur in veridian forest and raised it to level 6 so it learned vine whip and then immediately destroyed Brock without a sweat. The only bit of challenge came with onyx that actually damaged me, but thanks to my so-called "rival character" giving me 5 potions when I arrived in Pewter City. At Cerulean city I then wiped out Misty with even less effort thanks to Pikachu.
Any novelty in trying out the neat gameplay and having pokemon walking around in the grass wears off within an hour and you realize your left with (so-far at least) the worst Pokemon game ever made. If you still want to buy this, i recommend waiting till its on sale for at most $15

Absolutely overpriced and sold in several parts. It's also lacking numerous features from previous games, the PokeBall Plus being the only way to get Mew is just a giant cash grab.

In short, play FireRed/LeafGreen instead, they have 200+ more Pokemon to collect, more content, and can actually interact with other Pokemon games to get even more content and gameplay.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's Go is a No Go.

Right off the bat this game baits you with nostalgia only to bash you over the head with its poor capture mechanic and awkward single joycon controls. Adding to the frustration, pokemon can run away at literally any time up to and even including when the pokeball hits. Even the Encounter pokemon can run from you too now.

Speaking of Encounter pokemon, you now have to battle them first before you can try to capture them. Plus you only have 5 minutes to beat them in. This restriction is quite unfair as now you need to over power your pokemon to finish the battle in time to get to the capture phase.

The motion controls for the capture mechanic are also inaccurate at times causing your ball to fly off to the left when you want to throw to the right. Most of the time when I wanted to throw directly in front of me, I had to move the joycon up as if I was throwing underhanded. I should mention also that while doing this, my joycon was in the joycon grip accessory alone as not using the Left joycon too felt awkward.

Next is the issue of the box your pokemon are stored in. in every mainline pokemon game, as well as Pokemon Colosseum and XD Gale of Darkness, your pokemon were sent into multiple boxes that could hold up to 20 in the old Gen 1 and 2 games, to 30 pokemon each in Generation 3 and up. Now you have a single box that hold up to 1000 pokemon! Game Freak expects you to be capturing tons of pokemon, but doing so makes it harder to pick out a pokemon to use, similar to picking out a marble from an ever increasing bag of marbles. Without being able to use multiple boxes, sorting pokemon becomes as easy as cleaning a kid's bedroom.

When it comes to training pokemon you're going to have to rely on that capture mechanic most of the time as the only battles you'll be facing are from either 6 specific encounter pokemon, or Trainers. This winds up giving you little personal experience in battling with little room for experimenting outside of battling the elite 4 or Green.

While hyper Training was brought back for this game, it's now rendered moot as there is now a candy system in place to also make a sugar junkie out of your pokemon as you boost their stats with more than just Rare Candies. Beware though, if you take your buffed out pokemon online, you stand running the risk of your pokemon facing a sugar crash and having their stats reverted for the online battle unless you choose the right rule set.

Also online battles and trades are pay walled by the Nintendo switch online service now.

The amount of unique pokemon you can get is also SEVERLY limited to just the first 151 pokemon, plus what might as well be considered Generation 8's first 2 pokemon, Meltan and Melmetal, as they are not usable anywhere else other than the multi-generational pokemon Go. Speaking of Pokemon Go, at the time of this writing, Pokemon Go has pokemon captureable from Generations 1 through 4, but only Bulbasaur through Mewtwo, as well as Meltan and Melmetal can be transferred into Let's Go. This means that in order to get Mew in Let's Go, you need to get the pokeball Plus while the Mew promotion is still going on.

Speaking of that device now, the Mew on it can only be redeemed once. so choose wisely what you do with it. As for how good the device is, I can not say as I do not have it.

While the Game corner does make a comeback, none of the games are playable in it despite the place being converted from a Casino into an Arcade. Instead, you can come here to pick up respawnable items. Fun. /s

The NPC's of Fushia even lie about the Safari zone now as it has been replaced with Go Park.

In past games you could get a bike you could ride to speed up, or ride Tauros in Gen 7. In Let's Go, you get to pick the pokemon you ride, from a selection. However if you get too close to a wall, your pokemon goes back into their ball leaving you on the ground.

Now all that said, I did find somethings likeable about this game. Certain interactions with your partner pokemon were enjoyable, the new Additional story elements were a plus (the additions, not the replacements), and even the part where you get to play as your partner pokemon in the rocket hideout were enjoyable, but they were not enough to save this game.

Nostalgia can only take a product so far, and that distance is even shorter when you have access to the original game, the first remake, and the port to the 3DS. Pokemon Let's go is a No Go, but because of the stuff I did enjoy, I'm giving it a 2 instead of a 1.

This game would have been bad and outdated a decade ago. Now, it's just awful. The art style is uninspiring and bland. The music is repetitive and aged. And the gameplay feels 20 years out of date. The core of the game is an incredibly dull and repetitive lull. The story is generic and bland, so all that leaves you with is the two main gameplay mechanics.

You aim pokeballs. You battle pokemon. That's literally the entire game. After 5 minutes you've already experienced 90% of what the game has to offer. Every fight feels the same, every catch feels the same. The game is just incredibly boring.

The game feels like a bad handheld from over 10 years ago ported to a modern device. The map is unimaginative and linear, the freedom of movement is virtually nonexistent. And the game is scattered with mind-bogglingly bad QoL decisions. The tree chopping ability is a tedious slog to get through, for example, when there is literally no reason for it not to be done automatically and quickly. Accessing what you want requires far too many clicks: three buttons to look at a map, which is completely useless anyway, which in any other game you could pop up whenever you want. And as a whole the game is incredibly slow: there is a painfully tedious amount of downtime in combat.

If the other Pokemon games are anything even remotely close to this, I have no idea how the franchise has lasted so long. I really struggle to think of any redeeming features. And this crap cost me £50.

You dont fight wild poke'mon, you only catch them, with no weakening, using the same system from poke'mon go, just with less skill needed.

Catching tons of duplicate useless poke'mon gives exp to your team, the only thing really resembling training is you let oak grind your extra unwanted poke'mon into candy, and you use that to buff your team.

It's a shallow form on what poke'mon red/blue/yellow was, and its just kinda meh.

I hope my kids like it, because its boring the hell out of me, and i have been playing poke'mon since i was 8 when blue and red came out.

On top of the gameplay issues, there are also technical issues, from the moment the game starts right away you notice the game drops frames, like really bad, movement is not very smooth and the lag gets annoying quickly.

The game overall just feels sloppy and lazy, i hope this trend does not roll over to the new poke'mon games recently announced, because if it does, they will likely kill the series.

Hear me out, this isnt a hate review like most, I really played it.

I was on board with all the pokemon following you and the fact that they were visible in the overworld, but after playing it and complete it... It doesnt felt like a pokemon game, sure I may not have all the pokedex (because im unwilling to pay 60bucks for another joycon) but Its feels CHEAP.

Controls: First negative point, what is this?. The controls are worse than the TWEWY remix for switch and thats saying a lot, Was it to much to allow us to disable the movement controls if I play on a train?.

Content: Its the shorter pokemon game I have played in my life. I dont know the motivation behind removing 7/8 parts of the pokedex from the game but to lock me from getting all without a joycon DLC is crossing the line. Also The postgame content is lackluster, the masters of each pokemon felt really descompensated (some hard some easy as hell) and after beating them you get a quick dialogue and a title( they keep being the masters but they share their title), maybe expecting a TM at least was too much.

Story: I already was expecting it to be bland or non-existant but for some reason they got out of their way to make unnecesary decisions (like the league champion, that doesnt make any sense).

Graphics: Well I never demanded good graphics but playing it like it is feels like playing a mobile game, I might not be wrong saying that is on the same level of Dragalia Lost a mobile game distributed by Nintendo (with chibi aesthetics), and I remember you this a 60 bucks game for Switch(an hybrid console) vs a F2P gacha mobile game.

Attention to details: Feels like a miss, with only 1/8 of the pokedex you expect that game freak may have worked in new animations for games for those 171 pokemons, but you couldnt be more wrong, they reused the assets and animation of 3ds and ported them to HD, even character animations are reused. At least ( and this are the 2 points) they deepened in the following pokemon mechanic giving them special skills like different levels of flight.

I was prepared for everything while going into this game but not this, this isnt just a short game its a scam. The game itself is worth 20 bucks max. but its sold at x3 that price +DLCs because its pokemon. After BOTW and MarioOdyssey grand start for their franchises in switch pokemon enters the hybrid console gen with a little game that couldnt live up to the expectation.

I may have lost 60 bucks but if with this review I can prevent others from the same fat so be it.

If this game were judged on its own, it may even be worthy of a better score, however that isn't the situation this game calls for.

Let's Go Pikachu is a watered down game that's priced $20 more than Ultra Sun despite the latter having more content and overall being a better designed experience. LGP arbitrarily removes mechanics that have been a series staple, while throwing darts on the wall to choose which mechanics to keep (such as megas). There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to what gets removed and what stays. I imagine the development team for this game didn't have much direction. At its core LGP is a 20 year old game with a new coat of paint, nothing on a deeper level has really been changed in any meaningful way. It's received the most common QOL updates that the series has progressed on but nothing has really been done to make it feel like a modern Pokemon experience. About the only remarkable new thing in LGP is the interactivity with your Pokemon and more importantly your starter of choice. This game is clearly filler to stall time for gen 8, but it also strikes a chord with those people that have a weakness for nostalgia.
If you are very desperate for a new game regardless of quality, you might as well get this. If you are new to the series, this honestly isn't a bad choice. But if you're a veteran like me then this game really offers nothing for the $60 price tag, and I would advise against purchasing it. I for one will be giving this game to my brother and he will probably enjoy it.

It takes another bite out of the strategy these games used to have. Now you don't have to worry about your pokemon's moves PP. The fun part about pokemon games was the catching mechanic. Taking down the HP of each pokemon, inflicting status effects all to make the catching proces more easy. Its completely gone in this game. Now you just keep throwing stuff at pokemons. Its like they thought "hey, lets change pokemon red in a huge safari zone".

Kanto is basically copy pasted from a game TWENTY YEARS OLD, the only improvement is the new graphics, but that's the least you can expect out of a remake.
The idea of making a new side-series to help new players get into Pokemon was great, but the execution is HORRIBLE. This is a mobile-tier game on a home console system sold for 60$, plus an accessory for another 40$ that locks you out of obtaining Mew (it's obvious why), and the game doesn't even support a pro controller? THIS is the grand entrance of Pokemon on a home console, when Mario got Odyssey and Zelda got Breath of the Wild? The framerate is of course abyssmal, but that's something we've been fed constantly since X/Y, so nothing new here. The only thing that stops this game from being a 3DS game is the resolution, and that is telling enough. If any other franchise tried to push such a **** lazy, soulless husk of a game for 60$, it would be pummeled into the ground by negative reviews, but since it's Pokemon, nostalgia blinded normies are trying to protect the game by giving 10s without even providing any legitimate praise other than "it's cute and pretty" or complainig about negative reviews. There's no point in paying at least 60$ to play through generation I AGAIN when you have Fire Red/Leaf Green or Virtual Console re-releases of Red, Blue and Yellow. Pokemon: Let's Go is for children and people who have never touched a Pokemon game before, not counting Pokemon Go. Nintendo promised a few times that this game would accommodate old fans of the series and still provide a fun experience. I can affirm that that is false. This is the easiest, most watered down game in the series, even if it is supposed to not count as a main series game. The game refuses to respect the intelligence of the player by not permitting you to challenge gyms if you don't have a Pokemon that is strong against the gym on your team. You are given Poke balls after nearly every battle in the overworld for no repercussions, and there are additionally a few NPCS that will refill your balls for free if you run out, like the one in Mount Moon. Your partner Pokemon is likely the most powerful creature on your side, which is odd seeing as Pikachu and Eevee both lack competitive viability. In order to improve this, the game allows you to teach some powerful, exclusive moves of any type to your partner Pokemon ensuring that you will never get stuck once during the entire game. IVs are now completely invalidated as you can pay an NPC 10,000 pokecoins to change the nature of every wild Pokemon you encounter for the next while. After every battle and wild encounter, your Pokemon automatically share experience points, a feature that you CANNOT turn off. This makes the game even easier, ensuring nobody will ever be challenged or underleveled once during their playthrough.
Breeding, which was my favorite feature in past games, has been removed entirely. Held items and abilities are out, removing nearly every nuance from competitive battling aside from type advantages.
There are a few things in this game I enjoy, however. The two positive points in this review are for them. The remastered music is very well done and is very immersive. I will also say that this game has the best implementation of the Switch's trademark "HD Rumble" to date. The vibrations that the joycon and the Pokeball Plus make are very convincing and realistic. I usually enjoy capturing Pokemon in the new system for the most part, and I'm sure children will adore it, but it is NOT a replacement for the old one. The gameplay when capturing Pokemon is very unengaging. In practically all of my encounters I just alternated between throwing a Razz Berry and a Poke ball each time until I captured the Pokemon. The nuance is completely gone.
Do not buy this game. Do not buy this game for your child. Do not buy this game for a friend who likes Pokemon Go. Show these people a good Pokemon game and introduce them to the series properly. If this game sells well, and Nintendo refuses to listen to the community, I truly hate to think of what the next Pokemon game will bring.

-The game is visibly the best representation of the Kanto region

-so easy my 3 year old beat it.

-online is the biggest joke to try to connect with a friend
-capture mechanics are down right broken in docked mode
-unfaithful remakes as many things are changed
-only around 1/6th - 1/7th of the pokemon are available so forget using your favorites if its not Pikachu or Charizard
-end game content can be beaten with lvl 19 making it irreverent
-locks content behind a 50$ purchase

In the end save yourself the money and don't buy this unless you want to see what a HD Kanto game would look like without playing a game.

In addition to the many things (literal dozens) they've removed from the series since 2009/2010, they further removed another half dozen features including some of which had been there for the entire series duration meaning no one who likes the series as is wanted them removed because if you like a game you don't want the basics changed arbitrarily, you want them built upon.

I wasn't against a return to Kanto in the slightest when leaks started happening that made it appear to be the case. But it should have been a BotW or Odyssey outing. A return to the series roots to build up with all of the content that had been present since the originals and more new content.

Instead we get a game worse than a nearly 15 year old remake that wasn't that great itself objectively speaking.

Graphic style is fine, following Pokémon is a nice return but this is a game and the game play is SEVERELY lacking. Especially for a the price. This is what should have been an easy mode in a full content game sold separately for people who don't know better or can't help themselves.

I love Pokémon. Have played the series for about 65 THOUSAND hours over the last 20 years and this is not at all what I ever wanted Pokémon to be. The last few weren't impressive but to say they were outright bad would have been a lie. Just barely a lie in the case of the most recent brand new games, but a lie nonetheless when considering the game play alone. The same is not true here.

To be a little more specific:
-Level design which makes children characters look like they're either 7 foot tall and 8 foot around or building look like they're 5 and a half feet tall and 6 and a half feet wide as opposed to being much more reasonably sized comparitively in the actual gameboy games they're based on.
    -Terrible mobile game controls.
    -Lack of wild battles.
-No random encounters making the grass utterly pointless to have included
-Everything appearing in the overworld and with little animations build up and cause extreme graphic lag the 3DS games already only hit 30 at best and now you get about 15.
-Stat system is ridiculously OP even beyond what the originals were.
-Messes up the previous game's storyline entirely by introducing these into the same story without any explanation as to what's happened to change things.
-Requirements on gyms. Some of which don't just teach you the game like some erroneously argue since it requires you to have very specific stuff even when those things are NOT the only way you could do it. They're teaching you only part of the game which I'm sure will lead to confusion on the part of any new players they might be targeting with this. To be clear, I know this isn't needed at all. Tens of millions of people have figured all of this out just fine on their own even as very young children - there are world championships for children if they can understand the metagame they can play casually without issue - but even accepting that as the intent, it's been done wrong. And done worse than the previous remakes which had the Teachy TV item for this and should have just been kept in and updated but is one of the dozens of things that these games have continued to leave out instead.
-One of the Pokémon can only be obtained from physical DLC - a controller which has limited functionality than the ones it replaces and doesn't work with any other game.
-You cannot access 80% of the only characters who matter AT ALL.

And I could go on but I think I've gone on long enough.

If you like what the series is you should not buy this. Game Freak's track record is to let each content lesser game define what the next ones will be because they have admitted to wanting yearly games at the cost of quality. You will get something worse than this if you let them know you will buy it no matter what.

If you think you might want to transition to the other games from this? You should not buy this. The originals are available on 3DS and will actually wean you in where this is the furthest thing from the modern main series they've created to date.

Like Go? You shouldn't buy it. I may not like it but you already have access to a superior and much more cost worthy version of this game.

Are you a child or thinking about buying it for children? Do not buy this. Go buy the recent 3DS games. While they're certainly not the best of the series, you/they will find this game entirely condescending with it's baby talk and probably dislike anyone involved in buying it for them. You have a much more cost effective way to appease them and not treat yourself/them like mental invalids in the 3DS games.

Are you nostalgic for Gen 1? Do not buy this game. It has a host of many things you do not want that were not in the originals. If you want straight Kanto HD this is not the game for you. Once again, the 3DS has what you're looking for on it's Virtual Console at a much better price point.

It's an extremely watered down experience; many features such as abilities, held items, weather and battling wild Pokemon have been removed, whereas battle animations (or complete lack-thereof) haven't been touched. This all leaves battles boring both visually and mechanically. There is no challenge to be had, and the game also suffers from lag in some areas because it's badly optimised.

Overall I played around 20 hours before loosing interest. I don't feel it's worth the price point at all, and I would not recommend purchasing it when there are far better games available on the Switch.

This game is a shallow remake that doesn't offer a lot different from the games it's supposed to be remaking. The new capture mechanics are flawed as well. A newbie to the Pokemon series might find enjoyment out of this, however even they'd find more substance by playing literally any other Pokemon game.

Cara, isso me enfurece.

    Enfim, é isto.

Awful. This is another game that just revisits kanto for the 5th time while making the game have less content than the remakes of gen 1, firered and leafgreen. So many pokemon are cut so you are left with the original 151 and a new pokemon only transferable from the mobile game, Meltan. You cannot capture them all without buying a $50 controller that will barely work outside of pokemon,Awful. This is another game that just revisits kanto for the 5th time while making the game have less content than the remakes of gen 1, firered and leafgreen. So many pokemon are cut so you are left with the original 151 and a new pokemon only transferable from the mobile game, Meltan. You cannot capture them all without buying a $50 controller that will barely work outside of pokemon, making this game effectively $100 if you buy the game + ball deal. The main game is offensively boring and way too easy. A game being easy can be seen as a selling point, but this game takes it too far and makes every battle require no thought. You are always over leveled because every caught pokemon levels up everyone in the party and cannot be toggled off like the exp share in sun&moon. Even if you tried to do a self set challenge, the game even tries to stop you from doing that because gyms now have requirements to enter, such as forcing you to have a pokemon of the type effective against the gym, have enough different pokemon caught, or have a pokemon be 3 levels higher than the gym leaders pokemon. There are also stat candies which raise the stats of pokemon up by a whopping 200 extra. This would have been a good optionial addition for players who wanted the game to be easy, but the game was balanced without these in mind and thus make them completely useless to those who wanted a challenge, and the players who do like to minmax just turns the game into a one hit ko fest. The post game is also lacking in content. There is no battle frontier or battle tower, or even the battle maison. Just master trainers, who are barely even trainers because they have only one pokemon that is the same as yours and the battle requires no thought, just leveling that pokemon up and feeding lots of candies is the only effective strategy.

As for presentation, the graphics aren't great and has very little performance issues, but should not be a deal breaker reason. The music is surprisingly very lackluster, since every song has no kick to it. Most of it is remixes to music we have heard before, but there are no standout instruments to each track. Good for overworld and peaceful music, but terrible for battle themes.

And the major game design choices made are poorly executed. Pokemon being in the overworld is a good change, but it ruins the urgency of finding the exit of a cave or dungeon to prevent your team from being weakened, because there is no incentive other than to be done with the game quicker. With encounters being easily avoidable, preparation for a cave/dungeon isn't necessary at all. A change could have been made so pokemon fight you in these areas. As for the new catching mechanics, party wide exp and motion controls should not be forced. For some stupid reason, the motion controls cannot be disabled in docked mode. The 2 player mode is also poorly implemented. You get to travel with a friend in the overworld, but the second player cannot do anything but walk around with them. This also created a problem with the difficulty again, making no trainer be fun since everything would die in 1 turn.

The game is marketed at those who have nostalgia for kanto and very VERY young children as a way to ease them into other games, yet hold their hand way too much and do nothing to prepare them properly at all for an already easy series due to the different mechanics and play style the game wants you to go for.

Overall, the game has poorly executed ideas and suffers immensely from a difficulty level being toned down way too much even when trying your hardest to implement your own challenges. A very easy platformer like kirby can be enjoyable because of the many different ways you can play around with the mechanics. A turn based rpg cannot work when even the dumbest of decisions wont kill you. The original games could be beaten by many as a child, so why is there a need to change it to be the level of easiness there is now? Very boring, lacking in content, and would be best to wait and see how the next pokemon game comes out, or buy the many other, and better rpgs on the switch.

You start the game, same as the others, but you don't play the game quite the same. Half the fun has been removed. Where you used to be a trainer battling Pokemon, getting stronger, catching the ones you like and having engaging battles with other trainers, well, all of that is gone now. All you do is catch Pokemon. You get bonus multipliers for experience when you catch the same Pokemon multiple times in a row. You keep the ones you want and give the rest to professor Oak. He gives you candy as a reward. At first I thought this was kind of funny 'haha I'm turning Pokemon into chicken nuggets' then the sad, glooming shadow of realization finally struck me, this is the entire game. Catching Pokemon, which levels up your party, and turning the rest into candy. The battles with trainers are shallow and lack energy. Almost every trainer you meet only has one Pokemon and most gym leaders only have at least two. This makes all the battles short and unengaging which takes away the best part about being a 'pokemon trainer'. I cannot in my right mind leave a good review for this game. Your kids will enjoy it as a fun little past time activity, but if your like me and you grew up with the games and the cards, and you were looking for the next great game, this isn't it so save your money. The franchise doesn't care about the fans that stuck with them through the years. Which is something we will have to deal with.

I'd also like to leave a short review about the pokeball pro controller. As I get older and after working with my hands they have gotten stiff. The pokeball controller is way too small. I can not comfortably play the game with it for more than an hour. Again it's great for kids but trying to grip this little controller for more than an hour is pretty difficult for an adult.

But then it gets insanely old with no interesting storylines to keep us interested, and grinding for anything like a shiny is so monotonous, at least I used to have to go to the Pokemon canter to refresh PP. Battling and trying to catch a rare Pokemon used to pay off, now what's the point of training up? I can use every Pokemon I have at any time during the game, are there going to be events or expanded multiplayer? With the absence of held items, random battles, and everything else that made the main series different from every other knockoff, I feel like I'm playing a knockoff. If I wanted to just play anything with the Pokemon name on it, I'll pick up Pokemon Pinball again, even that has depth.

Really I'm just disappointed, this feels like a game that could have come out on my iPhone 5 years ago. Anyone who's played one of those online Pokemon MMO's knows the potential of this game. We could have seen real players walking around in game and spark up a battle in Viridian Forrest, or at least battle something. Why would you advertise or even hint at such potential and then deliver such a stripped down version, are they taking tips from Bethesda? lol. I really wish this game was fun. They've had me hooked since I was 10 and I want to play a great (or even good) Pokemon game, but this isn't it. Just download one of the knockoff Pokemon games on your app store, any of those will deliver about as much content.

I will say the music and graphics, etc. have improved, but who gave a hoothoot about that when playing Pokemon? Priorities are reversed, hopefully some of this feedback gets to the developers and they make a game for us again. This game is for children or people who have never played a Pokemon game or video game at all. If it was billed/marketed this way, there would be only a fraction of these poor reviews.

If I had to sum up my problems with these games it would be that they're very shallow, unambitious and soulless. After having normally proportioned humans and non-grid based environments in Sun and Moon it feels like a huge regression to suddenly have chibi characters and unnaturally squared world designs again, especially since the Switch is a much more powerful console than the 3DS. ItIf I had to sum up my problems with these games it would be that they're very shallow, unambitious and soulless. After having normally proportioned humans and non-grid based environments in Sun and Moon it feels like a huge regression to suddenly have chibi characters and unnaturally squared world designs again, especially since the Switch is a much more powerful console than the 3DS. It doesn't help that it looks much cheaper than all other big Switch titles such as Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey or even Splatoon. That wouldn't really be a problem if it wasn't sold at the same price as these.

"But graphics aren't everything!" I can hear you say and you're absolute right. Sadly, the gameplay reflects the same half hearted, lackluster attitude as the game's looks. This 2018 game's map offers the exact same content as a Gameboy game from 1996. You might try the weak excuse of "It's a remake" but even that fails when the 2004 GBA remakes offered more content in form of the Sevii islands which also greatly expanded the amount of Pokemon you could encounter. LGPE has no such thing, no new post game areas, no way to encounter new Pokemon. It has the smallest regional dex with 153 since Diamond and Pearl but even GameFreak realised this and expanded it with Platinum. So this fully priced Switch game gives you less content than the 2004 GBA Kanto adventure and has the least Pokemon of any game since 2006.

Saying that LGPE are an overpriced, lazily made cash grab is at this point an understatement. But it even gets worse. The Pokeball plus accessory is the only way to obtain Mew in this way. Locking a Pokemon behind a 50$ paywell is just bad business practise. It's especially shocking to me that gamers are just accepting this since there was such a loud outcry againnst stuff like day 1 DLC, lootboxes and pay2win strategies. And GameFreak made sure you can't transfer Mew from Pokemon Go to Pokemon Let's Go. So they're fully aware of this and simply using it to exploit their customers.

I could go on about how the combat was stripped of all the mechanics that were introduced over the years such as abilities, hold items and natures or how the gym requirements further casualize a series that's already overblown with casualization but I think I've made my point. However, I do want to be fair and mention some positives for me like the usage of Pokemon on the overworld or that some characters were more fleshed out with more interactions.

On a technical level these games are fine. They're harmless fun for people who want to relive their childhood experiences of Kanto. But as someone who has been with this series for over 15 years I can't just ignore all of what I've said above. I can't ignore how much these games have been a regression from what came before and how exploitative and cheap they feel. It's not anyway near what the Switch or Pokemon as a franchise is capable of. And GameFreak is aware of that. They know they can just release mediocre, lackluster products and they will sell. That's the real reason why despite saying that on a technical level these games are fine I'm giving them such a low score. Scummy behavior like this should be discouraged as much as possible. I can only hope that Gen 8 will be better and have some actual effort put into them.

It's really hard to put the sheer disappointment of these games into words. These game are single-handedly the worst pokemon games that Gamefreak has ever made. These games are a debatable improvement over Pokemon GO. DEBATABLE!!! How is it that we can compare A FREE MOBILE GAME TO A $60 RELEASE WITH PERIPHERALS AND DLC AT EXTRA COSTS!!! These games are an insult to everyone who purchased them. The graphics are identical to Pokemon GO with none of the excuse of it being on a phone. The gameplay (if you could call it that) is directly ripped from the mobile game with the story of the Yellow being lazily glazed over it. There is nothing in this game that justifies the cost. I have to return both of these games because I have more self-respect and self-awareness to let Gamefreak take advantage of me. Anything less then demanding a full refund would be a desperate act of denial. I understand that a lot of people played GO and they enjoy this game but, you deserve so much better than GO's sloppy seconds. There is a depth to this game that is sorely missing with none of the passionate flash that enraptured kids in the 90's. I have to wait for user reviews for every pokemon game after this, Gamefreak simply has no credibility anymore putting out something so shamefully half-assed. If you need a reason justify your Switch purchase, buy Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, Breath of the Wild, or Bayonetta 2. If you desperately need to play a pokemon game, play the original Yellow Version on ROM. Gamefreak doesn't deserve the money from digital sales, go pirate the game that's 20 times better from 20 years earlier. Expand

This game is horrible, it really is
If you want to play Kanto so badly just play the extremely superior Fire Red/Leaf Green or even the original games
    Incredibly easy
    Incredibly boring
Just taking Gen one and sucking anything good or interesting from it was not a good idea

This is easily the worst pokémon game I've ever played. I despise it with all my might. The new rival is probably one of the worst in the series, being a generic friendly rival that has no conflicts to make him interesting or endearing. The gameplay is so easy that it makes X & Y look like Dark Souls. Also, your starter, while the partner Pikachu and Eevee were pretty interesting concepts, and the idea of them having unique movesets of different elemental attacks is pretty good...on paper. Instead of just one at a time, they straight up made it so you can have your entire moveset just OP moves. Before you say "oh but Pikachu and Eevee are weak" well not in this game, especially with the game's mechanics. The partner variants have higher stats, so giving them one at a time would've been enough. I get that this game is catering to Pokémon Go players, but even with that excuse, it's poorly executed. And to top it all off, this game has nothing new. You can criticize X & Y all you want, but at least there it had something new and interesting to it. What does this game have going for? Melmetal. That's it! There's no reason for it's existence except a cheap cash grab that makes me feel disgusted. It gets worse every time I see it, and I hope to god they don't make another game like it. But if they do, actually make it good. Expand

The good: You can have following pokémon. You can ride some pokémon. The master trainers

The bad: Insultingly easy, it is press A to win. Eliminated wild battles, I dislike the GO catching method. Eliminated competitive play, the whole breeding aspect!. Eliminated 6 entire generations from the pokédex. Eliminated day and night cycle. Protagonists are too young. Rival is too friendly.

At least provide difficulty options!

The starter Pokemon are overpowered and beat everything in the game without trying and get broken moves super early on, they don't let you enter gyms without certain types/levels, you can't battle wild Pokemon, and the enemy AI is trash. Enemy Pokemon will intentionally use non-damaging moves to let you win. Like, constantly. On top of that most other trainers have 1 Pokemon, 2 at best. And if you play co-op mode you get an extreme unfair advantage. How is this acceptable? If you have a full party I genuinely don't think you could lose a battle if you tried. What happened to trial and error? The game holds your hand the ENTIRE game. You can design a game for children without making it such a cakewalk! I mean, look at generations 4 and 5. Those games were definitely children's games, but the difficulty was still ramped up enough that you lost battles occasionally, and you had to battle wild Pokemon to gain levels. I was like 9 years old when I played generation 4 and I struggled, but I still beat the game! Children are not idiots. And if you insist on designing a game for idiots, why not implement a hard mode? Why not AT LEAST give the player the freedom to enter a gym, get obliterated, learn a lesson, and come back once they understand how types work? The game has completely streamlined any difficulty whatsoever. You don't learn or figure out anything on your own- the game does it all for you and gives you all the answers. Not only does it give you the answers but it FORCES you to play the game a specific way.

There are obviously a few good things about the game. Pokemon following you, being able to access the box anywhere you want, no more wild encounters- all good things. However the game sugarcoats these improvements in the easiest Pokemon game literally ever. I honestly can't believe that the Pokemon Company thinks this is acceptable. Pokemon is a huge franchise and it deserves better. This was the most disappointing Pokemon game by far, especially after generations 6 & 7, the easiest generations of all time. Pokemon can be a game for kids but it's also a game for adults- they can't keep giving us bad games, with bad plots, that have literally no difficulty at all and FORCE you to use Pokemon that make the game easier. The game sucks and it's a depressing representation of modern Pokemon. The games could be so much more, but it feels like GF and TPC don't even care about pleasing fans. I'm sick of it. 1/10.

If you care about the future of gaming, the future of Nintendo or even the future of Pokemon, then stay the **** away from this cash grab.

P.S. I will never accept such a **** argument as "this game is made for the casual crowd".. I mean how much more casual can a Pokemon game get? I was 7 years old when I beat Pokemon Blue (which might actually be the most difficult out of all)... 7 YEARS OLD! And you're telling me that it needs to get more casual? Everytime I play a Pokemon game, I catch whatever Pokemon I want and faceroll everything until the elite 4 which gets A BIT challenging. So screw this game and everyone who thought that this was a good idea.. Also screw the Pokeball controller and it's Mew exclusivity. This game is a fraud

A simple, nostalgic return to the Kanto region, offers little if you are a series veteran eager for complexity and challenge. But if that's not your main interest, Pokemon Let's Go has it all! It's a simple, cute and fun game that will keep you hooked for hours. An excellent starting point for newcomers, and a great nostalgia trip for those in a search for one.

It’s hard to make sense of the game that’s basically a Switch port of iOS/Android remake of Pokemon Red/Green. Is it a step forward, step backward – or maybe just a shameless cash-in? Turns out, it’s a great remake – the world looks exactly as we imagined it back when we were staring at black and white pixels of original Red/Green. [Issue#235, p.44]
