I'm a huge fan of the serie, i started playing it on SNES.
The Switch version looks nice but the game suffers by its lack of content. Only 150 puzzles and i'm pretty sure they are already used from older versions of Picross. Anyway it's great to have a Switch Version of Picross. I would love have now a Picross 3D on my Switch

Having been a huge fan of the series since the brilliant DS game Picross and seven more games on the 3DS, I had high hopes for this game. However, Jupiter has produced a game that seems flawed and even a little lazy (certainly not up to their standards).

Firstly, there is now no penalty for filling the wrong square. Previously there had been a two-, four-, or eight-minute time penalty for wrong attempts. Now there is no penalty which leads to simply guessing. In my opinion this has effectively ruined the game. What's the point in trying to puzzle out the answer when you can simply guess?
Secondly, the puzzles used in both picross mode and mega picross mode are the same puzzles. They do not seem to have created unique puzzles for mega picross mode. The puzzles occur in slightly different order (possibly to throw us off) but I have come across many repeated puzzles (enough to make me assume that this continues throughout the game, even though I haven't yet finished it 100%).
Lastly, the control scheme is a bit different to the 3DS version. It's not as intuitive and there seem to be no other control options. Earlier versions had at least two control schemes.
In general the game is still quite good, but not up to the standard we've come to expect from Jupiter. The DS game Picross remains the best in the series.

While it can’t match it for character or charm, Picross S joins Piczle Lines DX as a super competent Switch puzzler that is sure to please Picross and regular puzzle fans alike. With that in mind, I can give Jupiter’s Switch debut a solid recommendation. Just don’t go in expecting it to blow your socks off in the same way the DS games did.

Picross veterans know what to expect, picross rookies are in for a addicting puzzling treat. Addicting game with hours of content if you like solving puzzles.

    Picross. No more, no less.
It has plenty of puzzles, even if designs are the same for both gameplay modes, it will take you 10+ hours to complete all of them. More modes or variation would be welcomed.
Why they didn't add touch controls is beyond me.

Well, no surprises here. It's Picross. If you liked the Picross games on DS or other platforms, go for it. I was immediatly hooked, because it's as addictve as always. Fluid controls, lots of puzzles and simple but challenging gameplay.

I've never played or seen Picross before so to me this is an absolutely brilliant game.

I never thought I'd play this over the other games I have on my Switch but I do a lot of the time.
Price tag might be intimidating for a simple "Sudoku-like" game but if you haven't tried it before, definitely do.

The finished pixel art is always well coloured and shadowed, and there is also an extra layer to completing a puzzle, wherein you get a medal when you solve one without using assists. This increases the incentive to fully complete the game. Picross S is a great game all around, though some extra pictures to solve and more gamemodes would have been nice. Expand

While Picross has always been a good game (series), Picross S, the first entry on the Switch, is one of the worst games of the series. Having even less features then the original Picross e for 3DS, it has only Mega-Picross and normal Picross mode. Definitely worth checking out Picross e1-e7 on the 3DS first, plus Picross 3D and Picross 3D Round 2 before getting this.

I think there are many elements reused, and it is a game that I rather enjoy with mobile.

A very well put together Picross game with fun puzzles, as every Jupiter Picross game has been before this. There's nothing that particularly makes this one stand out against their 3ds titles but the UI does look very nice and slick on the big screen and the music is very nice, and will be stuck in my head for a long time.

I'm not sure why critics feel the need to knock this game so much as to give it an average score of 67. It's not a game for everyone, but if you like logic puzzles, you'll absolutely love this game. i do agree that they could have added in touch controls for those who liked them on the 3DS games, but I actually find it much smoother and more enjoyable using the controller, anyways. It is also much prettier to look at than the 3DS games. While this is the Picross S game with the least content (compared to S2, S3, etc.), it is also the cheapest. Plus, it's hard to argue it's not worth the money when I got 60+ hours of enjoyable and relaxing gameplay for $8.

The game interface is very clean and intuitive and the tools available and efficient. The music is still repetitive. The content is not huge but acceptable. It is a good game but not revolutionary in its kind.

It’s a solid picross/nonagram game. There’s a formula to these style of games, people need to keep in mind that what genre this is.

Picross S is a fully recommended title for anyone who doesn't own a Nintendo 3DS after some puzzling action to play on the go, which is the preferred way to play this type of game. Whilst lacking the superior touch controls of the 3DS versions, this one does add an array of great assist options and throws a multiplayer twist into the format. Compared to what the long-running Picross e games provide, though, offering just two modes and Mega Picross being slightly adjusted Picross puzzles is unfortunate. For the budget price, 300 puzzles is excellent value, especially if this is one of your first dabbles into the series, but there is no question that more could have been added here. If you have a 3DS, it would be better to stick to the Picross fun on that system.

If you're looking for a good puzzle game for your Switch, this should definitely be your first stop. Most of the puzzles are bite-sized and easy to stop when you're on the go, but it's also meaty with so many puzzles (over 150 and double that if you count the Megas) that it can easily eat up hours of your time. While I miss the simplicity of the touch controls, it's a small quibble when there's still so much to be enjoyed from this game.

Picross S still manages to entertain with the ultra solid nonogram formula, but overall it feels like a lazy project for newcomers that will probably disappoint the old fans of the franchise.
